mine the speed limit along the way [Music] okay let's do this thing question number one unless otherwise posted the speed limit in a residential area is a 25 miles per hour B 35 miles per hour or see 30 miles per hour correct answer is a 25 miles per hour certain speeds are automatically set by the state and are to be obeyed if there are no speed signs posted these are called Prima facial speed limits and are listed in California California vehicle code 22 352. the Prima facial speed limit on any Highway in any business or residence district is 25 miles per hour unless a different speed is determined by local Authority or the Department of Transportation let's move on to question number two California's basic speed law says a you should never drive faster than posted speed limits B you should never drive faster than a safer current conditions or see the Autumn I'm sorry the maximum speed limit in California is 70 miles per hour on certain freeways correct answer is B you should never drive faster than is safe for current conditions California's basic speed law says that you may never drive faster than a safe for current conditions you may need to drive slower than the posted speed limit depending on the weather conditions the number and speed of other vehicles on the road condition of the road surface so like if it's wet it's dry it's graveled Etc or if bicyclists or pedestrians are present next question number three you are driving 55 miles per hour in the far left or fast lane of a freeway posted for 65 miles per hour you could be cited for driving too slowly a if the road or weather conditions warrant driving too slowly B if you block the normal and reasonable flow of traffic or seeing under no circumstances because it's always safer to drive slower than other traffic correct answer is B if you block the normal and reasonable flow of traffic minimum speed law reminds drivers that you should not drive so slowly that you impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic unless the reduced speed is necessary for safe operation of your vehicle always travel at a rate of speed that is consistent with the normal flow of traffic without speeding now let's see question number four you are driving on a road where the speed limit is 45 miles per hour all other vehicles are driving 50 miles per hour or faster you may legally drive a 50 miles per hour or faster the speed of traffic B anywhere between 45 and 50 miles per hour or C no faster than 45 miles per hour correct answer is C no faster than 45 miles per hour driving faster than the posted speed limit or driving faster than safer current conditions on any road is dangerous and illegal high speed increases your stopping distance So the faster you go the less time you have to avoid a hazard or Collision and now question number five you are approaching a railroad crossing with no warning devices and are unable to see 400 feet down the tracks in One Direction the speed limit is 15 miles per hour 20 miles per hour or 25 miles per hour correct answer is 15 miles per hour the speed limit is 15 miles per hour within 100 100 feet of a railroad crossing where you cannot see the tracks for hunt for 400 feet in both directions however please note that you may drive faster than 50 miles per hour if the crossing is controlled by Gates a warning signal or a flag man next question number six driving slower than the traffic flow tends to a make a collision more likely to happen B make a collision less likely to happen or C not change the chances of having a collision correct answer is a make a collision more likely to happen collisions are more likely to happen when one driver goes faster or slower than other cars on the road driving slower than other cars can be just as bad as speeding it tends to make cars Bunch up behind you and it could cause a rear end crash if many cars are passing you you could just move to the rightmost Lane and let them pass now let's see question number seven if you need to slow down or stop when other drivers may not expect it you should a look over your shoulder into your blind spot B you use your emergency brake or C quickly tap your brake pedal a few times correct answer is C quickly tap your brake pedal a few times your brake lights warn other drivers that you are slowing down or stopping if you have to break where other drivers may not expect it just quickly tap your brake pedal a few times to indicate that you're slowing down or that you're going to stop suddenly now let's see question number eight you exit a freeway on a ramp that curves downhill you should a slow to a safe speed before the curve B slow to the posted speed limit for the freeway or C wait until you have entered the curve to begin breaking correct answer is a slow to a safe speed before the curve be sure that you are at the proper speed for leaving the traffic lane so not too fast so that you won't lose control and then not too slow so that the flow of traffic can still move freely be sure to slow to a safe speed when exiting the freeway especially if the exit is curved downhill now let's see question number nine the speed limit in any alley is a 20 miles per hour B 15 miles per hour or c 25 miles per hour correct answer is B 15 miles per hour in any alley the speed limit is 50 miles per hour an alley is a street which is no more than 25 feet in width and is used primarily for access to rear or side entrances of properties now let's see question number 10 driving faster than traffic and continually passing other cars a increases your chances of a collision B increases fuel efficiency or C helps to prevent traffic congestion correct answer is a increases your chances of a collision every time you pass and or drive faster than other traffic you increase your chances of having a collision so continuously weaving in and out of traffic and speeding are not likely to get you to your destination significantly faster and the increased risk is just not worth the few minutes that you may save in your drive time question number 11 when driving near road construction zones you should a slow down to watch the construction as you pass B reduce speed and be prepared to stop or C step on your brakes just before you pass the construction correct answer is B reduce speed and be prepared to stop you should continually adjust your speed in response to the traffic and road conditions around you so if you encounter an accident road closures or construction use caution and prepare to stop your vehicle let's move on to question number 12. you are driving on a freeway posted for 65 miles per hour traffic is heavy and moving at 35 miles per hour the best speed for your vehicle is most likely a 30 miles per hour B 35 miles per hour or c 25 miles per hour correct answer is B 35 miles per hour again California's basic speed loss says never drive faster than is safe for current conditions so if traffic is is congested you may need to drive slower than the posted speed limit but at the same time you don't want to drive so slowly that you impede the flow of traffic in this question where traffic is heavy matching the flow of traffic is ideal because they are moving at a safe speed and it's legal as well for the current conditions question number 13 slowing down just to look at accidents or anything else out of the ordinary a prevents rear end accidents B causes traffic congestion or C improves traffic flow by preventing accidents the correct answer is B causes traffic congestion rubber necking or slowing down just to look at accidents or virtually anything else out of the ordinary is driving behavior to avoid so when you slow down unnecessarily it only frustrates drivers behind you but can also lead to traffic congestion bottlenecks and rush hour gridlock question number 14 when driving under snowy or icy conditions a it is safe to use your cruise control B make speed and directional changes more gradually than you otherwise than you would otherwise or C drive as you would under normal conditions correct answer is B make speed and directional changes more gradually than you would otherwise always adjust your speed slower to account for poor traction when driving on snow or ice this also applies for acceleration and deceleration to avoid skidding you need to use gentle pressure when stepping on the accelerator or brake pedals in addition when making directional changes like turns and Lane changes you'll also want to go more slowly and cautiously when the roads are slippery with ice or snow and now let's see question number 15. you are driving slowly in the fast lane of a freeway and there's traffic behind you in your lane the driver behind you wishes to drive faster you should a not change lanes if you are driving the speed limit B change lanes to the right when safe to do so or C only change lanes if five or more vehicles are behind you correct answer is B change lanes to the right when safe to do so keep Pace with traffic when possible without speeding to avoid being rear-ended or impeding the flow of traffic if you must drive at a slower speed then keep to the right most Lanes of the freeway this will allow other traffic around you to flow smoothly and helps to reduce congestion next question number 16 when driving in traffic at night on a dimly lit Street you should a Drive slowly enough so you can stop within the area lighted by your headlights B turn on your high beam headlights to better see the vehicles directly ahead of you or C keep instrument lights bright to be more visible to other drivers the correct answer for this one is a dry slowly enough so you can stop within the area lighted by your headlights make sure to never drive at such a high rate of speed that you overdrive your headlights if you drive too quickly at night your headlights will not light up the road far enough ahead and you won't have enough time to react to the problems that your headlights would normally illuminate so you want to be able to avoid a collision that is within the range of your lights all right now let's continue on to question number 17. at an uncontrolled intersection where you can't see cross traffic until you are just about to enter the intersection the speed limit is a 15 miles per hour B25 or c 20. correct answer is a 50 miles per hour the speed limit for a blind intersection is 15 miles per hour an intersection is considered blind if there are no stop signs at any corner and you cannot see for a hundred feet in either direction during the last hundred feet before Crossing so trees bushes buildings or parked cars at intersections can block your view to the side and if your view is blocked you can just etch forward slowly until you can see now let's move on to question number 18 the speed limit posted on a road is 55 miles per hour when this road is wet a maintain a 55 miles per hour speed B Drive 5 to 10 miles per hour under the limit or C drive 20 to 25 miles per hour under the limit correct answer is B Drive 5 to 10 miles per hour under the limit a slippery Road will not give your tires the grip they need so drive more slowly than you would on a dry Road on a wet Road go 5 to 10 miles per hour slower than the posted speed limit question number 19 when you are merging onto the freeway you should be driving a at or near the same speed as the traffic on the freeway B 5 to 10 miles per hour slower than the traffic on the freeway or see the posted speed limit for traffic on the freeway correct answer is a at or near the same speed as the traffic on the freeway your goal is to enter the freeway at or near the same speed of traffic so remember when merging onto the freeway the other drivers already on the freeway have the right-of-way it is your duty to enter traffic as seamlessly as possible without impeding or slowing down traffic that is already on the freeway and our last question number 20 unless otherwise posted the speed limit in a business district is a 25 miles per hour B 20 miles per hour or C 30 miles per hour correct answer is a 25 miles per hour so as we discussed earlier in both business and residence districts the speed limit is 25 miles per hour unless otherwise posted so what the heck is a business district it's an area where at least half of the buildings bordering the street are businesses and a driver can access them via driveways from the road the speed limit in a business district is usually faster than in a residential district but if you don't see a speed limit sign then the speed limit is technically 25 miles per hour and there you have it folks 20 real questions that very well might show up on your actual DMV test the thing I love most about this video is that there's a lot of good Common Sense information that will help you as you start your driving Journey knowing the safe and appropriate speeds for different traffic situations is crucial for staying out of trouble and helping everyone coexist out there on the road until we meet again this is permit quiz Liz asking you to please mind those speed limits and stay safe out there I'll see you soon everybody foreign [Music]
