[Music] good morning from the Amma Magna on the danu River today we are docked in lint Austria second largest city in Austria but that we're not staying here today we are getting on a and we are going to salsburg so this is Will to be a very long Excursion day it is a 2-hour bus ride there 4ish 4 to 5 hours in salsburg and then a 2-hour bus ride back we're going to make a stop along the way at the ABY that was in The Sound of Music and I think there's other Sound of Music Stops so you know had to re-watch Sound of Music here in the cabin to refresh the memory cuz I haven't seen that since I was a kid it's nice chilly but it's supposed to get to like 61° today so I'm so excited about that all right let's get [Music] going we've been on our bus ride for about an hour and 20 minutes we've got our first stop in Mii I hope I'm saying that right look behind me that is the Alps right there behind me we started seeing them as we were on the Austrian Autobon coming this way and you can see the snow on the mountains and just look at that I mean I've seen mountains before but never seen the Alps that's pretty darn impressive there's a massive Lake right here it's m Lake we're heading right now to the city center which there's a big beautiful Church our guide saying that we locked up today because it's beautiful today I mean the sun is shining it's warm outside yesterday it was pouring down rain so glad we're here today instead okay who recognizes this church yeah I wouldn't have either if I hadn't just watched The Sound of Music last night or this week that's where the Maria and George Von trap got married in The Sound of Music In Real Life this is not where they got married they were married in salsburg at the monastery where she was a training nun and training can't think of what it's called but the nuns there would not let them film The Hollywood movie there so here is where the movie was set it's always neat seeing movie sets and honestly like I hadn't sing The Sound of Music since I was a kid and I watched it the other day it was really good I really enjoyed it good [Music] [Music] movie it's an absolutely beautiful church so you know they say oh we're going to the church from the wedding scene of The Sound of Music you're like all right great it's a movie scene it was chosen for a reason this is a beautiful church it's very ornate very elaborate and you can see why it was chosen as a chosen as a movie set but it was great because there's a choir practicing in there we got to hear that nice experience so we just have 2 seconds here uh quick little break and then back on the bus on the way to salsburg this is such a cute little town like I wish we had more time here but it's literally just a quick break to see the church use the bathroom and we move on to salsburg but super cute I like it here Mii I think he said it's Mii there's an s in there which is keeps throwing me off I want to say Mony but he's saying Mii so I'm going to go with [Music] Mii so we arrive in salsburg and here the bells so we got here right at noon the oh that's a police siren but we could hear like the the bells tolling at the abies and around the churches right at noon so that was really cool as soon as we got here our first stop is the Mirabel Gardens beautiful gardens Mirabel uh Palace right here we so there's quite a few palaces around the area of salsburg but from here we have a beautiful view of the Fortress up on the hill so so far so good in salsburg another Sound of Music music movie set right here in mirbel gardens this is where the D me song was filmed or at least part of it they were running all through the gardens through the trees GL I just watch that movie cuz I don't remember any of that this Palace was built by an Arch Bishop for his mistress and 15 children and if you if you don't know in the Catholic Church the priests are not supposed to be having children they're supposed to be celibate so that was a big like Scandal but obviously it was allow because the church is right across the street so behind me right here is Mozart's residence it's not where he lived as a small child but when he became a teenager him and his family lived here it was a more wealthy place and he was here until the age 25 we about to cross the bridge now and go into the old town of salsburg you can see all the locks along the bridge but these are the love locks of salsburg right here as we're walking he's giving us ideas for where to eat lunch he said there's a local supermarket you can go in there and buy snacks and drinks for a lot less than you'll pay in the tourist shops but he said this is a nice little beer garden they used to actually brew beer here at Stern bra which means Star Brewery but no more Brewery here but you can still come have a beer and some lunch okay we are getting into The Pedestrian only medeval part of the city so yay no more traffic as we've been it's been like kind of challenging Crossing these uh intersections as a large group what a beautiful street so you just turn this you go through this little alley turn the corner and you're here and you've got these high buildings on either side of you with the metal signs coming out good view up on top of the mountain lots of shops and cafes on this road our guide said if you want a local beer look for this it's been brewed for hundreds of years here in salsburg one of the most famous buildings in salsburg is the birthplace of Mozart it's this yellow building behind me and his family lived in the flat above the words that are on the building he lived here this is where he was born and lived in until he was a teenager where he moved um to a bigger nicer house that we showed you earlier it is currently a museum about mozart1 1350 if you want to go visit that don't think I'm going to do that today there's too many other cool things to do this is a typical Courtyard of what the construction would have been like in the 1500s it would been homes all around and this would been like your your garden your backyard right down here in the courtyard also where you kept your animals if you had any now it's a little shopping area yay there's a small Market going on right out here so he said if you don't want to spend the time sitting down for lunch you can come right out here grab some street food there's also some vendors out here so I'm not sure if this is going to be considered an Easter Market or if it's just an everyday kind of Market but I'll definitely be back here after the tour the famous Mozart Chocolate he says it's very good here's where the original was invented but the person who invented it didn't patent it so they're made everywhere for much cheaper now we in the Market Square now and behind me is the cafe where the Mozart chocolates are made so we'll have to pop in and try that but on the other side of the square is the cafe tomaselli which is the oldest Cafe in all of Austria this is the residence Square it's the largest Square in Olive salsburg and behind me is the glocken Spiel if you look up in the tower there are 35 bells that ring three times a day at 7:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. so un fortunately we're going to miss it but that would have been awesome beautiful square and I'm going to try and get a good shot of those 35 bells up in the tower so the official tour is over and our free time has begun we've got about 2 hours and 15 minutes of free time here in salsburg first up is lunch everybody's hungry it's about 1:00 p.m. so we're walking back to that market we saw because those sausages and those pretzels look pretty darn good okay back at the market and I found a pretzel with cheese so I was expecting like when I got it that they were going to heat it up and melt the cheese no you eat it with the cheese cold that's yummy M so it's a soft pretzel but it's on the crispier side so it's got a little bit of a bite to it and that cheese is just a good creamy cheese it's got some like herbs sprinkled on it big rock salt cuz we are in salsburg after all where the salt mines are so this is going to be a very tasty lunch and if I can find I want something specific they've got the different sausages around here but I'm looking for the sausage that's got the dough wrapped around it I had one of those at the market be it was so good so pretzels cheese and sausage is what's for lunch today so we found some steps in front of a very old building to sit and have lunch in the shade and just sit and watch the market as people go by so the Pretzel was good now there's cheese right over there across from me there's sausages around and there's chocolates so what's next well you get a chance to try the sausages before you buy it oh yum that's good man you just can't beat a good fatty meat but do I need more sausage because I bought sausage in Budapest so I may have to pass on that but it's really yummy I like that you can try it we are going to have one hell of a shery board when we get home because yeah I'm buying the sausage so it is two sticks this is pumpkin seed we figured it out um so it's sausage with pumpkin seat on the outside of it and it's two sticks for €9 so I'm getting this I've got to find some cheese I'm like just nervous about buying unrefrigerated cheese I need to get over that and find me some cheese they actually have some right here so let me go look I have a delicious bag here of pumpkin seed salamis and goua cheese €21 for all don't think that's a bad deal cuz that's a big old chunk of cheese now we're heading over to the cafe where the most chocolates are made because you know I'm going to eat my way around any City I go to and this is the cafe where the Mozart chocolates are made there's many shops around town that sell them but this is where they're made so we're going to go give it a try so of course we had to come into the cafe have some hot chocolate delicious and a Mozart ball so these are about €2 per candy there pistachios chocolate let's break into this and see what it tastes like okay there's the inside you can see it's like half chocolate half pistachio that's different than I was expecting it's good though it's very good more pistachio than chocolate so now we are going for a walk we are trying to find there is an elevator built into the cliff that will take you up to a vantage point to overlook the city and when we came in on our tour we kind of made these Loops so we're not sure which direction we need to go in I think it's time to break out Google Maps so our guy told us that there was a art museum up on the cliff that they had an elevator and then there's another one that's about 7 minute walk away but we turned around and there's the finic so we're just going to take the finic up to the Fortress it's going to cost a little bit more but we're right here and I love phics they're so cool okay anyone who's watching this that knows salsburg who is that supposed to be standing on the golden dome it's definitely not Mozart so we go in this little door thinking we're finding how to buy tickets to the fular and there's a random Bakery in here and oh my God the smell of bread is amazing we still haven't found the finic but we found a beautiful Cemetery right here at the base of the church and oh this is cool what's interesting is this is definitely an old Cemetery but there's some new Graves here this person just uh was buried in 2020 so very recently but the grave looks as old as all the rest it's just the um Tombstone or metal cross that indicates the age the chapel behind me has a date of 1491 on it so that helps date a little bit this area but there's definitely older Graves newer Graves there's catacombs around here as well haven't found that yet this is just fascinating okay so some of the Tombstones are answering a question for me they're family plots so there's one burial on top of another that's very common in New Orleans um I'm from Louisiana and the Crips down there are family Crips and they bury you know family member after family member in the same Crypt and put the names on the outside so that's what's happening here as well in some places found it have the ticket for the finic and this is also entrance into the Fortress 1450 year per person wow it was so hot on the finic coming up but wow the views so just you start at the bottom and you go really fast up the side of the mountain and you just see the city of salsburg below you and now we're up at the top at The Fortress so we can see the Fortress we can see down on salsburg what a beautiful day most definitely come up here the views out into the city of salsburg are breathtaking from here you can see you can see the mountain you see the Alps are all around us you can see the city down below the old town and the new town the river running in between even on this side you can see the medieval city wall that snakes around unbelievable this is just absolutely beautiful 1450 well spent to come up here and get this view holy crap there's the Alps right there so whenever I came out I go straight for the City View you know I was like oh I've got to see salsburg just walk around the corner the other side of the Fortress is facing the Alps breathtaking it's March so there's still lots of snow up on the mountains I've seen mountains before I love mountains I live in very flat Louisiana so mountains do a whole lot for me and that is super impressive oh my gosh I'm in heaven I'm not sure if it's the time of day or it's a time of year but it's like there's a haze all over the mountains so it looks like they're not clear I can with my eyes see them clearly but through the camera it looks like there's a haze over everything but there's so much beautiful snow over there so many beautiful mountain peaks definitely going to have to come back here and spend more time one day is not enough what there's a cafe up here overlooking the Alps if I had known that we would have come here for lunch I like markets just finding Grand but this is amazing and we don't have enough time because we have only like 20 minutes and so we have to get back to our meeting place so Sals is definitely a place if you're planning on coming here you need more than one day you need more than 3 hours cuz that's really all we've got here this is an incredible City absolutely stunning I'm so saded that I didn't get to eat lunch here look at that view that is incredible put this on your list come up to the Fortress and eat lunch overlooking the eles put that on your have too list in salsburg now we have to go back to the fular go back down meet our group we have a 2hour bus ride back to the boat so snacks before we leave I don't know what this is but I want it I think that's cheese in there okay this is what I ended up with for the bus so we are back at Mr mozar this is the meeting place for our tour and now we will walk back to the bus station and take our 2-hour drive back to lint yes lint where we got on the bus this morning from the ship I have snacks I have a vanilla Bavarian pretzel and a hot Coke because they didn't have any more Cokes and a bottle of water so hopefully I can get a cold Coke somewhere on the way I must say this is the prettiest bus stop I've ever been to so there's the bus stop there's some nice buildings there's the Alps right there settled in on the bus it's quite warm it was cold this morning it's warm right now this is how you get sick um but got a snack got a cold drink got a 2-hour bus ride so on my way in I couldn't see the Alps very well they were on the other side of the bus so we're going back the same way I should get some good clear shots of the Alps on the way back [Music] oh [Music] what a day so we've made it back from salsburg amazing City I really really wish we would have had more time there just so picturesque and beautiful we're back in lint and we've got I don't know how long until we sail but we will be in Germany tomorrow so this is our last day in Austria we will be in pasow in the morning and then villen V I'm sure I'm saying that wrong in the evening and that's where we end our cruise okay couple of tips about traveling to Europe this time of year number one dress in layers it's cold in the morning like brisk like you need a jacket and then by midday you're sweating so like I had a thin long sleeve shirt on I could have had a short sleeve and been even more comfortable second tip wear some sort of sunblock on your face either like a moisturizer that has some SPF in it because there's a lot of wind so you're getting like you can see my face is red it's been red for days there's a little bit of wind bur in there and then a little bit of sunburn so couple of things there other than that this is a great time of year to travel you just got to be a little bit prepared for the temperatures and the weather and you're going to have a great time yeah I got a little sinus thing going on but I'm just prone to it you know it's just that's me I've gotten sinus issues my whole life so it's just something I deal with and I bring medicine and I just keep on rolling so tonight um our group is having dinner in Alesa so I'm excited about that because that is the venue at the front of the ship and hopefully we will be sailing while we have dinner so from Lin you had a couple of different options for excursions I went to salsburg but Sarah chose a different Excursion and she went into the Czech Republic and I'm going to let her tell you a little synopsis about that Excursion today I did a different Excursion from Alisa and I chose to go to the Czech Republic uh to chesky Chrome love which was amazing it's a little town chesky Chrome love translates to Crooked Meadow and um we'll insert a picture so you can see a picture of the town and how it probably got that name um the town itself dates back to 1253 and it's an amazing little town to go hike around a lot of up and down Cobblestone roads a beautiful castle we'll insert some footage so you can see you can hike to the top of the castle beautiful views of the city uh the castle has a moat which holds bears and uh so we got to see one of the Bears today it was a beautiful day it was about 65° there uh and she said unusual weather for this time of year so we're at the end of March and um it just was a beautiful day to be in that City exploring and now it is time for dinner so we have group dinners these last three nights tonight is an Alfred Esa I am not dressed up but a little bit nicer cuz it is the captain's Gayla Alma waterways is very casual if you want to be if you want to get all fancy you absolutely can but if you're more on the Casual side like I am it is absolutely perfect cuz you just need to kick it up a little Notch for the captain's dinner not go crazy fancy so head to dinner now so that was an interesting dinner it is a 7 course prefix menu you only choose an appetizer and an entree everything else and you only choose from two items but everything else is you know what you're going to get I can say the pumpkin soup was amazing that was delicious and the steak I had was really really good there was just a very small portion of it so I guess they figure they're giving you seven courses the portions need to be small but I am full so I can't complain about that and that's a wrap for today I am exhausted going to sleep getting up tomorrow morning we will be in Germany if you're new to this channel be sure and hit that subscribe button and the notification Bell if you like this video give it a big thumbs up and we'll see you tomorrow [Music] bye
