in the midst of a rebuilding year while the New Orleans Saints last season got to the playoffs for the first time ever and indeed they're looking to go a lot farther this season well I'm pleased be working with my partner this year former Chicago Bears all-pro safety Gary fencing and Gary the outcome of today's game could very well hinge on that all an important statistic turnovers the both the Saints and the Falcons were heavily influenced by turnovers last year the New Orleans Saints were number one in the NFL and that all-important turnover differential while the Falcons were down near the bottom of the league last week the Falcons continued to have problems in that area they had 350 yards of offense but they had four turnovers all of which led to Detroit Lions scores so I think this is one of the key areas we have to watch today it was raining the last couple of days here in New Orleans today's game will be played under threatening skies and certainly if they were to experience soggy weather conditions that would make for a very conservative ballgame by two teams that loved ball control [Applause] so Atlanta won the coin toss they will be receiving kicking off where the New Orleans Saints will be number seven Morten Andersen and we will switch that the Atlanta Falcons will be kicking off Greg Davis first year play out of the Citadel we'll be kicking off back deep for the New Orleans Saints male great and we're underway a low kick by Davis Dalton Hillier takes it for the Saints when runs into a wall in a second effort by hillier picks up an extra five yards for the New Orleans Saints ba-ba their fourth year quarterback out of Northwestern Louisiana four touchdowns last week against the San Francisco 49ers the defense will be facing an experienced one Dan Casillas and Rick Bryan linebacking core of the youngsters Andre Bruce and Marcus tighten on the outside inside rein Ian Williams and a secondary Butler case more and Clark so first and ten for the Saints Walmart on a 25-yard line of New Orleans [Applause] first playing the game pitch goes to Craig Ironhead Hayward and he picks up about two yards on the carry the offense for the New Orleans Saints hey bear earlier Hayward Eric Martin lonzell Hill Martin and Hilde the wide receivers defensive make that the offensive line new edition there Joel hildenburg will be in at right guard replacing the injured Steve Capello [Applause] they caught her to pick up a three that'll make it a pickup up to making it second down and eight Hale in the slot they have to Hilliard and Hillier fighting the whole fort maybe about two yards land of defense looking strong early on the stop by John Ratey Dalton Hilliard strong game last week a very underrated player the Hilliard a halfback they also have Rueben Mays who you have to expect will play more this week he went out of camp during the preseason had some knee problems had an operation in the offseason [Applause] brings up a 35 all right out then hey they're out of the shotgun the time complete across the nose and a first down for the new audience trains one of the things they're gonna have to look out for today is that third down conversions to be very important take a look at Clark here looks like he's just going man-to-man lips inside makes a nice catch into the hole of his own 17-yard pickup for the Saints Robert Moore on the stop for the thousands Robert Clark you see his preseason numbers first-year player out of work Hillier and Hillier right ahead and the players singular fumble and the Falcons recover [Applause] there's nothing you've got to play up the meadow behind a big offensive line Hilliard takes it in good defense by Atlanta swarming it's like to see us - trip the ball there number 75 big turnover big way to start the game for the Atlanta Falcons a major momentum boost for the Atlanta Falcons as you take a look at head coach Marion Campbell in his second year at the helm of the Falcons that fumble was recovered by the 10-year veteran Joelle Williams first and ten for the Falcons ball on the 49 of the Saints miss Miller back to class with plenty of time completed jeans cleaned us out of the backfield and freeness the good pickup it should take a look at Chris Miller second-year player out of the University of Oregon young player whom to veterans here have rallied behind me the offensive line he'll be facing James jumpy gethers Elliott Jim Wilkes and the strength of the New Orleans defense Jackson Mills Johnson and swilling that line back before and the secondary weimar van Jake Santino Gibson and Brett maxi pick up a 5 make it 2nd and 5 she's facing Bailey emotion the handoff goes to child and the Saints players indicate that there's a fumble under the huddle we'll wait for the official call and indeed mr. Saints with the recovery so the Falcons unable to capitalize [Applause] by the linebacker packs women really chitters by both sides rolling things out the right back in position the top of your screen to see him come down makes a nice hit strips the ball Jaxon's there right away both teams look a little jittery on offense [Applause] Lanta unable to capitalize on the turnover and we talked again the very top of all turnovers playing the key and Lancer was not able to capitalize first intend for these things called on the 45 out of the process this is million emotional hey they're back to pass play action well he'll get out of the backfield and Dalton Hilliard looking to atone for his mistake on that last fumble takes it down to the 30 of Atlanta Falcons dare you talked about turnovers and how important that could determine the outcome of today last week every team with more takeaways and giveaways one that's their you know let me tell you another thing on that play they have some motion I think it costs in confusion with Andre Bruce to a first-round pick it looked like it was going to blitz he didn't kind of semi blitz and he made it difficult can him to get coverage on that play a 21-yard pickup by the sinks first and ten at the Atlanta 30 moves up to the slide going back Craig menu I shall heal emotion hey Jarrett back to pass completes the hill and he'll stop at the 25-yard line I'll pick up a five that'll bring up a second and five that time eighty seven hills in the cross in motion and snuck underneath the tight end in the back they were trying to clear out snuck him underneath that zone see launched so he'll come in crossed in motion here and then he just stopped watching Brenner clear out and then sneaks underneath for an easy pass here that's something that they hope to be able to keep the route to go on radios in on the stop sucking in fire for the Saints wallet at the 25 in the coffin handoff the area good shifty movements and there's a late flag on the play quick shifty movements by Hill you make him one of the toughest backs in the league to bring down Ronnie Lott said he 208 pounds with his small dive and against New Orleans as we seen definitely get hand packed about to make the call this was going to drive Jim Mora crazy they had six ball starts last week a legal procedures offense number 85 moved off the line of scrimmage uncovered the taco by blood couldn't repeat second you mentioned six fall starts last weekend Jim Mora said he couldn't explain it well he has a veteran offensive line and certainly shouldn't be because of the noise here in open stadium today in Fulton County last week the Saints uncharacteristic for them 10 penalties for 77 yards seven against the offensive line second and 10 for New Orleans 1048 remaining in the first here give the credit to Mike Gann well I think the lamb falcon defense today is gonna be ready Mike in there at the rest net front line it's a big target 260 pounds of fullback nowhere to run inside because of the penetration and boy I'll tell you what that's good defense and they're going to have to play that way all day because when you go against a guy that big he can break tackles a loss of two on the play brings up third and Colin 11 Saints with their four wideouts and they call this their plus package hey bear out of the shotgun completes to Hill across the middle but not enough for the first down as Bobby Butler is in on the stop Marion Campbell said that it was going to be very concerned about third day conversion today right there they held did a good job dropping back in zone even though Bob behavior had time to throw the ball he just had to give what the defense gave him and that wasn't enough for a first down not a fancy defense that of Marion Campbell nobody very effective one and again he has young players doesn't want to get too fancy too complicated wants them to grow into this system Morten Andersen and to attempt the field goal it'll be a 41 yard attempt it's up and it's good so Morten Andersen who last week was one for one continues the streak that was a 20-yard elastic al 41 yard of this one Saints on a scoreboard first they lead it by a field goal this field goal was 41 yards Martin Anderson was perfect last season from 40 yards in short you take a look it hits the crossbar goes in the Martin Anderson it he does that every day but his folks repeating after day and I think it's a pretty good foot in this one though he's back in the end zone stamps decides to bring it out and Sylvester stamps there's a flag on the play of Sylvester stamps showing good decision-making on that play as he takes it across the 25 of 31-yard return stop by toy cook and the signal goes against Atlanta Atlanta goes one step forward to back with the penalties when you're looking at this next series for Atlanta they're going into the baseball infield very typical to running it's very difficult to run in that baseball infield so you probably see the passing game and the running game go towards the left of the offense for Atlanta and the signal to call against number 58 Tuggle so the Falcons starting deep in their own territory first intent at their own 10:00 Remus finds a little room along the left side before being run out of bounds at about the 18 yard line Antonio Gibson on the stop his premise our rookie out of UCLA getting to start they spent a lot of time with gastrin green out at UCLA this is his first start he's replacing John settled big opportunity for him to share some time with Gerald Rix gain of seven on the play second and three ball mark at the 17 and Miller play-action and Miller having to scramble he can run well and Miller slides out of bounds near the rocker we'll find out if that's enough for the first down before NFL update mr. Tekin with Britt Musburger in New York the James the Giants strike first in their big one against the 49ers Steve Young fumbles it away Sims to manual the extra point is good Giants seven Niners nothing back to Atlanta and James pile re Brent that's going to be an Austin game up there between the Giants and the Niners indeed well the Giants giving off that big Monday night victory had to generate a little more offense against the 49ers that they're gonna defeat him one of the things that defensively you have to watch out when you're going against a young quarterback who probably likes to get out of pockets in it in life so Chris Miller's run number 6 - the sideline reporter there's an eligible player was not enough for the first down he slid out of balance and Gary most people might have thought that his feet were far enough to have accomplished the first down but the ball governs on that play when the slide with the effete forward but the smart thing is he slid he didn't try to take a hit by Pat's lung wouldn't last the game very long the forgiver second-year player showing the tenth year veterans understanding so to be third in inches for the Falcons 848 remaining Falcons trail by three mrs. Gerald Riggs he's got the first down and more so jail ring seventh-year running back out of arizona state home the players and coaches say is running as well as he's ever run oh I'll tell you what when you have a few inches to go and you have a 235 pound pack you've got to give him the ball the offensive line the left side does a good job premise does a good job of blocking there and it's an easy first down and Gerald Riggs mr. reliable fumbles once every 56 carry that's mr. dependable first and ten for the Falcons balled up their own 24 it's a spacey Bailey in motion Miller back to pass and overthrew his intended receiver Floyd Dixon Dixon can jump but not quite that high pay waiting through it really bad that time they blitz willing on the play I think that's one thing we're gonna see a lot of today of the outside linebackers Ricky Jackson that's willing number 56 coming in they were openly critical of the fact that they weren't able to blitz last week they want to see if they can rattle a young quarterback felt they were playing too conservative that being swilling and Jackson they want to go after the young quarterback of Atlanta and Kristen Miller is faced with a second and 10 all marks on the Falcons 24 808 remaining in the first going left and Gill rigs tackled out of bounds by Vaughan Johnson one of the talented linebacking core for the Saints it was kind of a different formation defensively they put slung in a three-point stance like it was a defensive end so they're playing a 4-3 rather than three four he's out there at the top of your screen played it at Georgia Tech played defensive end gets cut they get outside of them the cron Johnson does a good job escaping a block and making the tackle brings up a third and six four wideouts in for the Falcons Gerald Riggs the lone back he's got a good set of hands bismillah for to the 35-yard line maxi Brett in on the stop and it's good enough for the first down so Darrell Riggs they're reliable running back gives the Lana the first down behind the offensive line you got everybody spread out and give it to Gerald Ridge he managed to find a hole he does gets away for the first down it's one of the problems for the royalists age today because when you go on that third down with four wide receivers you spread everybody out he just has to find the crack first and ten ball at atlanta's 35 727 in the first quarter remaining this is Briggs again and Riggs picks up about two two yards now Riggs that time ran to the right side but he prefers to go inside on his side I'll tell you what when you have a guy that big you just want to find him at crack you don't want to have to search it off to the hall but again as I mentioned he's running towards the infield and I think psychologically if your office our defensive player you don't want to go into the baseball infield because you don't think you're gonna get the footing that you need to make the cuts Jo Riggs see his numbers five rushes for 18 yards second down and seven ball on the 38 of the Falcons out of the eye raise the ball carry straight ahead maybe a yard but they're running right into the teeth of the New Orleans Saints defense they feel that they can keep put people inside block up create a lot of congestion and force runners to go outside where they think with the speed of their linebackers they can can get there and stop it from a big game it's also the thinking of the coaching staff that with the two back offense that that will preserve rigs a bit more and certainly make him freshmen well so far today he's getting the ball an awful lot and I expected to see it that way the rest of the game nickel defensive package for the Saints Falkon space with a third and five ball on their own 43 wives to the right Miller well people Bailey he's got him first down for Atlanta Reggie Sutton quarterback one to stop Fort New Orleans of Finland the rdy receivers at one side of the ball in the infield at the top of the screen Bailey was all by himself 1-1 against Reggie Sutton's plenty of protection good throw and the Atlanta Falcons are now three for three in third down conversion that's a very important staff for them throughout the day Atlanta is in New Orleans territory ball on the 45 of the Saints Stacy Bailey Chris Villa said he is my favorite receiver play accent Miller going up top looking for vixen he's done Miller's addiction 27-yard at the 7th inning of morning miss Miller gets plenty of attention on this play-action fake freezes the linebackers a little bit and they're running a crossing pattern behind the zone nice drug Dixon gets behind the linebackers here for the first down and more I'll tell you what this is one very comp and accepting them second-year player Aaron Campbell says he likes his poise person can bald at the 17 of his face and the reverse this is piston and Dixon does not make it back to the line of scrimmage excellent play in coverage by Pat Swilley let me tell you a good defensive team does not allow reverses to happen and you're going against one of the better teams in the NFL on defense they've smelled out the play took a little bit longer to develop and I think it softens would have life and those linebackers did a good job of staying disciplined staying where they should and making the play a loss of one on the play brings up second down they see Bailey in motion this goes back to previous and famous like a spinning move hit hard by that hard-hitting defense of New Orleans I'll tell you one thing you learn pretty quick he's a rookie made a nice spin move but he really got stuck and I think you start learning that you can't use some of the moves you use in college to do it and there is a flag want to play on the far side of the field let's listen to dick Han tak well that'll help the Falcons you don't want to give them new life and that certainly gave him a big break there 5 3 yards an impressive sustained Drive by the Falcons in 12 play of this Drive places the ball at the 12 of the Saints bringing up second and 5 Miller back to pass looking for Dixon instead he finds across the middle for the touchdown Ken [Applause] 12 yard touchdown strike from Miller to Whisenhunt taking a paint play from the 49er playbook of last week Whisenhunt catches a nice play game it out move and then turn it up for a nice touchdown he knew he was gonna get wrapped - he really knew what he saw the safety coming over at him but he made a sure catch for the touchdown last week San Francisco's John blanket of all-pro day against his Saints defense Greg Davis the replacement player with a good veteran legs foot gives the Falcons the first touchdown of the afternoon and they lead it by four over the Saints pretty nine Atlanta with that touchdown from Miller to Whisenhunt lead at 7 to 3 and Whisenhunt the fourth year tight end out of Georgia Tech playing before some local fans with an excellent route that you appreciate it well they played man-to-man on the and bump and running the outside and the tight end came free and a nice move Greg Davis picked it off for the Falcons it's a high one but a short one taking up the 10 yard line by Mel grave and great takes it up to the 25-yard line so the Saints will start at their own 26-yard line to stop on a play by Jesse Tuggle Saints will have it when we come back Mats Wilander well lindell's going for his fourth straight and i guess they were right whoever seated it Wilander being - and len will be number one Bobby hey there four of four 455 yards on the afternoon first and ten ball to the 26 of New Orleans and often Hillier and Hillier screen ahead flag on a play Hilliard up to the 29 yard line that it will be negated as the signal is against New Orleans and New Orleans last season is so effective in minimizing turnovers hurting today down footsteps well last week we were on Saints lost two guards on the right side who lost to fellow lost Gilbert so they have Jake Joel miltenberg playing over at the right guard and I think they've got to be concerned a little bit because they haven't established the temple that they wanted to come into this game Yosi party that time that Jim Mora was thinking about was Jim Dombrowski hey bear back to pass let's go get out of the backfield new year back up near the original line of scrimmage about the 27 yard line Joelle Williams inside linebacker on the stops Hilliard had a great game last week good pass receiver is Rawls he demonstrated there I think they're going to try to show that these linebackers if they're going to blitz from a falcons see whether or not they can do it quick enough without giving it away so hey there Bobby can pick him apart secondly for the Saints ball market their own 28 two receivers to the right play action hey they're under pressure had to get rid of it and applying the pressure was the rookie Andre Bruce number one draft choice six five two hundred fifty pounds comes blitzing in here step four five speed just got outside hildenburg couldn't make the block puts the pressure Weber was lucky to get that away but rookie nicknamed Drago with a character in Rocky form big strong defensive player take a look at that neck collars god my god that thing got to be 250 cons and carry that got a net collar on him four wideouts in for the Saints on third down 39 ball on their own 28 hey they're back to pass great defensive play tended receiver was Eric Martin but his Scotch aced the credit fifth year quarterback out of Oklahoma bad at that ball down well this is his first start for the Scots case it's man-to-man coverage he sees their the ball was a little late getting there because the house was actually open Ryan Hansen in to punt for the Saints back deep Aubrey Matthews what's his Matthew's back to the 30 his own dirty he's joking and crawling and dense to the 39 wrong angle the NFL but but if I saw Ricky Jackson about that level me I think I'd call to a 42-yard punt 9 yard return Atlanta will take over when we come back [Music] you're in partly sunny Atlanta Fulton County Stadium got a good ball game on our hands in the first quarter between the Atlanta Falcons and a New Orleans Saints Atlanta with the first touchdown of the afternoon leading it by four 316 remaining in the first and it's been raining here the past couple of days but has gotten a little humid today anyway when our Sun came out now it's going to be very muggy during the rest of his day we had to resort to getting these fans over here take a look in here a nice little guy Robo fan he's really helping sell this afternoon with red eyes and red jersey carrying the ball on a play that time James Primus BIG's hiccup and the rookie out of UCLA trying to make the most of his starting assignment today take a look at our little Robo fan here how much it cost he's doing a great job you've got to help oh they're really eating is kind of cool and another wise mutton game that's the most important thing it looks pretty but more importantly it's effective a pickup of six body gains preemies brings up a second in for all on a 45 in Atlanta Stacy Bailey in motion play-action Miller back to pass with time and a low pass intended receiver was Floyd Dixon but Miller you got to be impressed looking very poised in the early going for the toppings well we mentioned that Marion Campbell was very impressed with his a sense of calm on the field and I was talking to Mike Ken there left tack when he said this guy doesn't act like a second-year player very talented sees the field well very cool and calm which is exactly what you wanted to jump quarterback but for that matter any most important statistical Marion Campbell the Falcons three up three on third down conversions they've got a third and sixth here nickel defense in by the Saints and I tune him out called by Ricky Jackson something he saw he didn't like and he burst up the signal a timeout quickly the head of formation only had three wide receivers on one side just one wide receiver working at twenty nine Reggie Sutton I think they don't know if they didn't have their blitz pickup with list adjustments down or what but just a smart play well cook very well have been it looked like there might have been 12 players on the field as well and bringing Jackson the alert guy said hey we don't need another penalty I can get away with it you want to keep him on but normally you don't didn't want to try the officials early on when usually they're the most alert I think Mary Campbell right now has to be very pleased with the way this games going didn't want to fall behind early in this game and they've really got to this rivalry that does exist between the city of New Orleans in Atlanta going rebuilding process here in Atlanta the man spearheading that the architect Marion Campbell trying to blend some veterans and new faces together matter of fact 16 of the 47 on the roster are new players and you take a look at the breakdown there by way of a draft free agency and only one trade somewhat of an uncharacteristic Marion Campbell team he likes to go with veterans but he realized this offseason that they just wanted to get the job done and decided to rebuild they said if you get some good talent in here especially young talent play it that's what he's blowing with Chris Miller I'm defensive packaging for the Saints four wideouts in for the Falcons the Falcons called is their rocket package but they handoff and don't pick up much on the play at all perhaps the yard you can see Gerald Riggs slipped in that infield turf it's just bad footing when you're in the infield and that dirt now some of these baseball fields aren't bad but don't look as though anyone's gonna get extremely good fitting putting as long as you're on the church today as a form of DP what bothers you the most about playing on a baseball field as well well I'd say any TV is paranoid they're gonna slip and fall on the dirt or not get good traction Rick Donnelly last season's leader and punting ticking hi shirt one this is Brett Perriman and make that male gray instead retrieving for the Saints coming up next week some good football action here on CBS as we take a look back at yesterday Florida State rebounding from that loss to Miami with a big win over Southern Mississippi and Clemson perhaps looking ahead still an impressive victory over Furman but they looked ahead they'll get their wish next week a big matchup is that Clemson a very difficult place to try to play a football game images from out of town Saints first and ten ball on their own 2153 remaining in the first quarter Saints trailing by four seven to three million on the backfield good running room and Hillier with first down yardage and plenty more before being stopped by bread spark an 18-yard gain by Dalton Hilliard good side of the right side of the line did a good job of blocking here away from that infield behind youngin Bergman starting today right guard blocks out there boy as a big hole fifth block by 85 Kobe Brenner to open up a big hole familiar and out there with him as well was the big fella Craig Hayward I'll tell you what 260 pounds would get me a good lead block every time first and ten at the would amaze going right at Andre Bruce much as the Falcons expected the Gemara has two very good running backs and Dalton Hilliard and Reuben Mays keep those guys fresh all day it makes it difficult for your defensive guys because you have quickness you have strength and they're all so precious Reuben Mays of course coming off of knee surgery last season also had a contract hassled into pre-season missed some time Jim Morris says he is going to work him in quite a bit today second and seven a bear back to pass with time complete so Eric Martin and Martin Ford progress will get him up near the 48 yard line that formation they had two tight ends two running backs only one wide receiver they snuck him underneath the zone I think you're going to see a lot of that today they really feel that this zone man defense at the Atlanta Falcons defense plays allows them that type of play and they're going to do quite a bit it's up near first down territory but the officials are going to signal for measurement here now Bobby Hebert feels that he's got two really fine tight ends really difficult when you have two good ones they given it additional blocker big blocker additional holes for your running backs to find and it looks like the sinks perhaps two inches side it is the first down we aren't the only ones warm here where they got fans on the sideline I don't blame them it's a warm and particularly muggy day here in Atlanta and they're carrying 40 pounds of pad and gear with them 13 inches sinks 1 of 3 on third down conversions Paul does mark at their own 47 good block you tight in in the game for the Saints John theis but we'll have to see that action in just a few minutes because that's the end of the first quarter here in Atlanta and NFC West Division battle right now the Falcons are leading it seven to three a sixteen and by Oldsmobile who invites you to test drive a new Oldsmobile soon at your nearest Oldsmobile dealer second quarter action about to get on the way here in Atlanta Falcons fans have something to cheer about allow on top seven to three New Orleans has the ball right now and the Saints have brought quite a few fans with them we need to ain't Nomura and their fan club called who that burden inches and this will be closed Gregg Hayward was the ball-carrier but the official says that big body more than me a few inches necessary officer price stadium are on TV to know that 45 M to get the ball 260 pounds and he need a few inches similar to what Gerald rich does for the Atlanta Falcons and I found kind of funny there he the big guys do all the work on that they go in the center and everybody's jumping around it's always the TBS who have the sideline view to see whether or not before the referee makes a decision whether or not you can start walking off the field or whether or not you have to stay on the field for another series Craig Hayward on first down is out in a wide receiver position to the left Vonzell Hill in motion the lone back as Reuben Mays and mazes the ball carrier as Mays Duque looking for the hole takes it to about the 47 yard line daily at Jim Hannah's in the offensive line coach Falcons talking to Mike Ken trying to get their blocking schemes right can't just wiping his face by hey I don't need to see anything like that I know it's gonna be a rough day pickup of six on a play brings up a second and for a they're back to pass under pressure and is not bound by Rick Bryan and the Falcons recover [Applause] give the credit to Rick Brian his age right in recovered by Joelle Williams Rick Brian keeps some frosty and then he says so class who doesn't have leg up to Julie he just lifts it up eight bars hand nice pickup by Darrell Williams on the scoop running for six this is Rick lines first starting he's a contract holdout during the preseason didn't start last week and you can see it makes a big play here but he's a happy camper now looks a little tired on the sidelines first and ten for the Falcons ball mark at the 43 Miller back to pass under pressure gets it off the stamps and stamps picks up three taking it to the 40 yard line and Gary we talked about turnovers again that beam holding true at least in the early going well and has been on the wrong side of that turnover ratio for most of last year and last week but today so far they're ahead and it has a lot to do with why they're ahead in this game look at Rick briny though he has some bruised ribs doesn't stop a big guy like that from playing though pick up a three second and seven for the Falcons stamps in motion two receivers to the left play-action looking downhill sin stamps remarkable enough just to get under that ball and that he had to make an adjustment on the rail Antonio Gibson providing close coverage well that was a good play action fake on that one Miller should have run down field he had so much room in front of him but he went seep tried to get stamps balls well thrown but it's a heck of a defensive play by number 27 as that was one great playing you look at Milly can't believe he's close he's close oh god I almost had it that's to be restrained by Gerald bridge Antonio Gibson on a coverage for a USFL player to sign in the NFL four wideouts in the rocket package for the Falcons 137 Balham the 40 of the Saints 12:40 remaining in the half Falcons leading by four Miller back to pass he's going to run it stays up and takes the hit may handshakes providing the pressure end to hit his look at Hillhurst and shakes because they've been a good one of those linebackers he jumped up in the air might have been crushed right into that Tori whether he wants to say on that field he does not want the field goal trip to come in he wants to go through that first down and it looks like Marion Campbell and Rajan are gonna go with him on this one well the players talking to the coaching staff signalling that they want to go for it in Campbell conservative by nature as you talk to a lot of these guys they were worried whether or not the young guys knew what this rivalry is all about by the emotion you see on the field so far in this first and now the second quarter it looks like they're getting the message early forcing one short garden formation rig play action going up top and it's complete for Alex Higgins [Applause] for person 1 Chris Miller thanks to hand off to jail rings and goes to Alex Hayden tell me this isn't one happy quarterback they ran a hurry up because they weren't sure up there to go throw down on their fourth down with the field goal and it makes you a little nervous because it looks like the Royals defense didn't get their act together Letta Tynan slipped her wide open behind his secondary for what looked like an easy touchdown Alex Hickman caught his first past last week and that was good for a touchdown he catches a pass today and his floor touchdown Davis corn after is good boy you hope on a play-action pass on third circuit it works this well Alex sitting at the right party in Sweden no one takes them they fight on Gerald rigs he gets behind everywhere Dave Wayne was trying to get back there but it's too late the big i-65 rambling in for a touchdown you don't think Marion Campbell is happy on this one it works just like you trot up on the plate going to play boy come on run get in there foot food that's a big body getting up in the air isn't it this guy is a winner a dangerous tight in Hickman is indeed and the Falcons leading for high o state Alex higden first cashed yet last week and this week vote for touchdowns this is Mel great for the Saints and Mel Greig dropped at the 27 yard line it's been a battle of the quarterbacks here by the a bear impressive statistics Chris Miller a little better for two touchdowns and turnovers New Orleans the tale of the theme we talked about at the top two turnovers Atlanta capitalizing Atlanta leads at 14 to 3 now this young quarterback Chris Miller the veterans really have a lot of confidence because he's displayed a take-charge attitude well Marion Campbell also has a great deal of confidence in them so far today you're finding out wide Saints will start from their own 28 with 31 remaining and a half and trailing by 14 hey there hands off saluton maze and maze with pain a room on the Left hand-side maze with a bottom nine yard pick up just shy of the first down marker to take a look at that Chicago Indianapolis game there is one top by four two winless teams one of course will come out victorious today Green Bay out in front early on in Pittsburgh giving the risk into battle early on one of the things that the Atlanta Falcons now have is momentum and it's one of the things that the oil New Orleans Saints didn't want to give them but now they have can be a battle the rest of the day second and one for the Saints big blocking tight end John Heise from the University of Maryland is in in motion lonzell Hill and the handoff to heal you [Applause] Mike can on the stop they're spreading out the defense right now they had a word out out wide and they're giving in to know your who told us yesterday that he likes to run in that one back set run inside find the hole low center of gravity find daylight and hopefully get a touchdown at that time the defense for Atlanta did a great job linebackers came up Mike in number 76 did a good job of stuffing his man good enough for the first down Dalton Hilliard run lonzell Hill and Martin to the right this is hitting it again Bulgaria and Hillier with first down yardage plus red clock the man to stop hillier from picking up more but Dalton Hill you with the 16 yard game for a second consecutive first thing first quarter New Orleans was hitting inside now they're running out of the I formation he got a big 260-pound fullback with a nice sleeve block before his good blocking all the way down that line five carries 441 yards all in the first half for Dalton Hilliard Saints in Falcons territory first and ten ball on the 44 of Atlanta this is Mays Mays looking nowhere to go maybe back to the line of scrimmage Robert Moore runs him out of bounds he fencing a good job of stretching out that that played that time but you can see New Orleans now is just running in maze giving him a few plays putting in Dalton Hilliard number 21 let him run a few plays you can see on first down neither defense is very proud of that statistic offenses have a goal of it here early in this game second and seventh for the Saints Wald at Atlantis 41 yard line Greg Heyward in a wide receiver position to the left Vonzell Hill in motion this is made he's grabbed from behind but continues to go forth to about the 35 36 yard line a four yard game Marquez cottony on the stop but there is a flag on the plate what they did on that play was they went in motion with one guy brought the strong safety over and that'll be an automatic first down brought the strong safety over and there wasn't anyone there to contain defense number 51 [Music] take a look at the right side of your screen here Marcus cotton not trying to do this before he gets a good piece of that face mask falls off gets injured on top of it and one of Marcus Qaeda's own players fell on him let's hope it's not serious we'll update you when we come back one of Marian Campbell's prized rookies hurtin on that last play well at his own man fall on his ankle it's like his left ankles a little Flores he's hobbling off the field before they got too good and of course the second round Marcus cotton from USC in the second and Andre gross both starting linebackers Saints threatening bursting ten ball at the Falcons hey there they hand off the Hayward and Rowland goes forward for first down yardage maybe let me tell you something 260 pounds bent down guys because here he comes right into your screen your breath Clark you want to back up a little bit yeah I'm gonna back up because I don't really want to see number 45 coming through aren't tackles no good to look at Clark go low you got to go low that's a good tackle by a little guy that's a heck of a tackle by 28 I think I'll tell you you can't win that battle many times you got to hit low look like he had enough yardage for the first down but he's going to be about two inches shy of the first down I talked to Craig they were before the game asked him about the adjustment from college to pros and it says JB it's a lot easier than I thought but when you're 260 pounds and you can run and move like him I guess so it doesn't making a difference what level you play on it life's easy I guess would be ways that by let's say this is a throw way down you could see a pass on this another they can get it on third short if they should fail second in inches Greg Hebert for carries 14 yards hey word in the hilly at the backs play-action a bear decides to keep it himself and he's not going to make it he slips in the backfield well I saw was a throwaway down tonight I didn't mean literally I think Bobby is looking to hand off to somebody no one wanted to pill well not to prejudge here but well he looked as if he slipped in a backfield but apparently he slipped forward just enough to get the first down it looks to me like somebody was supposed to get this ball and I think it might have been number 45 Hayworth turns around hey I'll take it late just give it to me don't worry elgible position number 70 James Brown along with Gary fencing here in Atlanta the Saints in the Falcons looking for the first win of the season right now the Falcons on top 514 with the Saints in the redzone as Craig Hayworth tries to go straight ahead that time the defense hit him low like you suggested we've got to he's just too big alone maybe the big guys up front can do it but here at GV you've got to hit that guy low and let him fall over you Falcon defense right side does a great job here hailer gets it it's just a lead play nice stick rady Joel Williams this is a fired up talking defense today believe it you know I thought maybe that was a choreographed play because during the preseason in Pittsburgh he'd ran into Bobbie a bear and then ran through the line for about 50 yards and a touchdown but I think he just missed a handoff on their second down play so Morgan Anderson will attempt the 29 yard field goal it's up and it's good the NFL's leading scorer last season's is good on that kick new earliest trails by eight famous tries to leap over Vaughan Johnson and Johnson stood up ever so slightly and made the tackle with his back I told you it was going to be difficult to play in the dirt kind of like the fact that everybody's getting dirty with Bob Johnson inside linebacker man the man covered he slips loses his balance before he got to be resourceful watch this oh right over my back and I still get credit for that tackle even though I didn't even have to use my arms or my shoulder good athletic move an alert move by Johnson still first down for the Falcons ball at their own 31 544 remaining in the half Falcons on top 14 to 6 Heller with plenty of time intended receiver was Ken Whisenhunt but off of his fingertips that coverage that time by the secondary and the linebackers for New Orleans you're a quarterback what would you see on that play Christa Miller dropping back good protection good sight downfield but very good coverage by everybody from the Saints defense tries to throw to Whisenhunt is tight in just a little outstrips Miller doing a good job though eight up ten for 105 yards seven six different receivers he spread the ball around second and ten this is Sylvester stamps in motion and John's fiddle the fullback gives the Falcons first down a 13-yard gain by John's fellow who last meet for starting moto Beca bro this week again where gave you the quarterback earlier what shuttled goes out the block of Dukes number 64 does a good job big hall three is a bird into the secondary this is what the running backs one nice tackle by 27 them Tonio Gibson they're mixing up the plays real well and Gerald Briggs was not in the lineup on that one giving him some rest settling premise in the backfield for the toppings falling at their own 44 first and ten this is settled again and settled takes it up near the fiftieth pickup of five plus you know I think the pace this game is really gone the Falcons way they didn't want to have a lot of bombs from they didn't want to have on high spring and so they don't know just how good their offense can be so they want to keep it close and then you have a two touchdowns in the first half you got an eight point lead we've got control this ball game right now that it's not a good situation obviously for the Saints to be him I ask you to settle might feel bad about being poor from a starting position but you said something interesting about the mindset second and four ball at midfield for ten remaining in the half in and out of a hands Chris Miller's intended receiver was Floyd Dixon one of the things we talked yesterday some of the st. players about was whether or not they're going to blitz more and while they don't tell you exactly I think you could see that they had their their ears pinned back when they were talking to you Ricky Jackson just blitz then I think it the Falcons must be anticipating that those outside backer is going to come because they're throwing very quick passes they're not gonna put that quarterback in a position where he has to look downfield for a long time I'm defensive packaging for the Saints on third and four for the Falcons of Falcons three or five on third down conversions four wideouts in for Atlanta Miller going up top bookkeeper Bailey just beyond the outstretched hands of Stacey Bailey though in a Huey madam to because it has three wide receivers failures all by himself it took a long count so that the quarterback could really see that that was man on man the quarterback on the line of scrimmage a safety deep in the hole there was to be one one on a fly pattern he just almost completed it but it doesn't count two of the NFL's best Rick Donnelly best in NFL punting 44 yard average male great best in NFL last season with return to 14 in 14 point 7 and Donnelly apparently gets it away but gets up beauty take that his own one and has brought at the 11th a nine-yard return on a 48 yard punt by Rick diamonds both Donnelly's suddenly keeping his average high they'll stop by Jesse Tucker when a bear can't be very happy they feel position so critical in any football game Greg caught that ball on the 1-yard line and only got it out behind the 10 tough situation in terms of field position what does a quarterback do here Gary it has been there so many times before but I think what they were doing is establishing the running game the second quarter with two tight ends just kind of going outside a little bit punching inside going outside with the speed of Reuben Hayes 3:45 remaining in the half - six ball the 11 yard line a bear and definitely a catchable ball for Eric Martin well you know Eric Martin knows that as well he caught seven passes last week against the 49ers a little overanxious because they had a situation just like they wanted it man-on-man coverage might have been a loose zone slant pattern catchable ball two free safety coming over they only have one wide receiver in that game right now two tight ends two backs and Martin the only ride you see Martin one catch for six yards today Martin comes wide to the right at the bottom of your screen second and 10 hits goes back to Daulton million and Hillier turning on the afterburners but not able to gain much Scott case on the stop and Gary I tell you it seems to me like it would have to be a member of the Secret Service to understand the various formations that a team has and New Orleans certainly has as many as any James all you got to do is out know how to play cards flush Queens hast regular checks clubs tens of four wide receivers is flushing so far they've been running his last couple series a lot of two tight ends smooth running backs - which one is that ha ha ha all you have to do is play cards up yeah it's test automation it's not a 6 - it's tense coordination you caught it 37 all on the 14 of New Orleans out of the shotgun and Martin holds on to this one but he'll be shy of the first down Bobby Butler almost like of milled delivers a powerful hit say what so far the Atlanta Falcons they must have the Joker in the deck because they're they're taking all those formations and they're just saying hey we can stop whatever you've got a lot of confidence on Atlanta team especially in the defense I think right now Butler eighth year veteran out of Florida State 511 only 175 Ryan Hansen take a look at that left ankle of his taped a little bit he's had problems with ankle injuries in the preseason and in the offseason coaching staff is a little concerned about his plan albey Matthew's back deep for the Falcons from his own floor Hansen gets away a decent kick Matthews fumbles the ball and New Orleans recovers so a major mistake by Aubrey Matthews gives the Saints the ball back Michael Adams the alert quarterback recovers the fumble when they didn't seem to be anything there seemed to be anything at all unusual about that and we'll see if new owners can capitalize with 153 remaining in the half this doesn't look this ball and it goes right through his body and I'll tell you what this is a heck of a fumble recovery by number 40 Michael Adams it's not easy to get that we're talking earlier the top of the show about how critical turnovers would be so far it's 2-2 every team last week who had more takeaways and giveaways won so so far even-steven great opportunity here for New Orleans Saints to get a score before half-time to wide receivers to the right for the Saints earlier than Hayward in the backfield this is Hillier and a flag is throwing on the play as Hillier tries to find some room and on the left side of the line Tony Casillas on a stop Ricky Bryan saying it's a false start by the office of course defensive players never think it's against them players love to help the officials yeah tell that's a guy you had a rough day Halloween's over offense number 85 illegal motion five-yard penalty repeat the down first time that was a very appropriate question for that fan who dad luolian score for 25 Atlanta only to Milan is playing pretty good football right now doc control the game but the defense has to come up with some big plays here to prevent the Saints from stronger first and 15 for the state's ball at the 49 of New Orleans 149 remaining in the half Vonzell Hill in motion three wideouts this is Hill yet he'll get straight ahead and the little fella runs hard takes it up to the 42 yard line so a pickup of seven before being stopped by Brent Clark the stretch in that defense out took Heyward split him out wide and don't know your told us he loves to run that one back offense man-on-man block he just find a seam somewhere good low center of gravity Brett Clark comes up and makes a nice open field tackle Dalton Hilliard 754 this afternoon in the first half Eric Martin in motion on second and five play action over the hill yet and the ball hits the ground passed too low from Bobby hey there so that'll bring up a third and five with 1:10 remaining in the half Gary you mentioned about Dalton Hilliard loving to run out of that one back set why is that they said that he just has a better view of things and I think of sometimes the running back really doesn't know why he likes it it's just a field thing he knows one thing though he has a hard time running behind number 45 Craig Heyward because he just can't see the guy they can't see where the hole is when he have to look true of 260-pound fullback 35 the Saints only two of six on third down conversions look for receivers in it and this is Eric Martin and Mark Martin with a big first down Robert Moore on the stop there was a good catch more really popped him at the end going into the hurry up offense here with just 55 seconds left in the half 14 yard picked up to the 26 of Atlanta out of the shotgun with the flush packaging plenty of time rosid too quickly and lo intended receiver lonzell hill I'm not sure the Falcons had enough players on the field they might have tried to play that with only three down linemen instead of four OB Brenner the big tight end from New Orleans comes in plenty of time here for a score one way or the other that if you're in the Falcon huddle right now you're screaming come on guys nothing more than three points here before the half this is practice every day every single day you go over this TVs loaded at seven on seven second and ten Hayward in Hillier the backs mrs. Hilliard escapes one blockers but only a yard game I'll tell you what Bobby Butler came through number 23 like it was a timeout missed the tackle New Orleans but he definitely made that play wow this is a 40 second timeout look at Bobby Butler he's one of the older veterans on this young Falcon defense he knows what it's all about he knows he goes swept up that helmet pump it up a little extra maybe play a big team like New Orleans not only this is a big rivalry that he's experienced a number of years but hey you're the underdog well it gives you a little extra oomph you know when you're playing defense you see the timeouts remaining take a look here just a handoff they're going wide Bobby Cutler I don't know how the heck a cornerback flies through like that on any defense but he he creates problems for Dalton halyard he has to readjust the rest guys come up to the mop-up job good defense speaking of mop-up I've seen you in quite a few plays where you're blending your shoulder pads to the action I'll tell you what you don't get many free shots like that you got to give it everything you got and Bobby Butler even though you can make the tackle there he made the play you heard the officials signal a 40 second timeout that's much like the 20 second timeout in professional basketball all under 26 of the mantle four wideouts in a their back to pass complete first down and the ball came loose appeareance than alive and somehow New Orleans recovers when we're talking about turnovers I think there were just two on that one if I Scott stays picked up the ball and then funneled it oh my god defense if you're either coach right now you're your stomach is sick statisticians have to be awfully quick this was a plenty of time for a car to find a receiver here good protection by his front people inside looks like the ball did come out before and I correct myself was Brent Clark Brett you got to go down just get stripped by a wide receiver that's going to be embarrassing tomorrow good pickup there by number 89 that's Robert all tied again Robert Clark heads a player second year well it may be exciting for the fans but certainly not for the coaches and that is not a smile of pleasure on the face of Jim Mora I got to tell you I'm not sure that they didn't rule that ball dead on the first supposed fumble and it looks like this play is being reviewed upstairs the replay official today is Jack Fett pretty exciting stuff low play standard first down now the nice thing obviously on that is that the replay took place all flee quickly did not take any appreciable time away from the action good job by the instant replay people first down change the possession twice twenty-one seconds remaining in the half New Orleans trying to close the gap even more they trail 14 to 6 to the Atlanta Falcons here in the first half been a good battle of quarterbacks Atlanta surprisingly trailing in the possession category but leading on a scoreboard first and ten ball at the 18 of the land the flush package for the Saints inside handoff to Hilda katako by number 28 Brett Clarke on that one try two quick little draw play with four wide receivers New Orleans timeout this is and again Gary I mentioned a few seconds ago that's new this year whenever there's not a television timeout but when an official will make that a coach calls a timeout it's a forty second one little quicker just means you can't run to the sideline and talk to your coaches as much as you'd like to the Rays got a calm cool and collected during 14 seconds 14 seconds left in his first half and if you're a defensive coordinator Marion Campbell what do you do I guess I to me I wouldn't really blitz I take the chance that now these guys only have a few plays left maybe one or two at the most three they're got to earn it the hard way in the place of zone defense I can live with three points but I don't want it to get seven to make it a one-point ballgame as we go into halftime so stay conservative I don't know if that's conservative it doesn't necessarily need that shows we're playing zone you conservative it just means that you don't want some to get feet out right but they don't cover their man man second and seven 14 seconds remaining Saints on a Falcons 14 puts down New Orleans Eric Martin and if you thought you were in New Orleans no this is Atlanta but New Orleans has brought a sizable contingent here and it sounds like they're at home cheering a lot of people here today for the New Orleans Saints what are you happy what you're seeing here for the first half and more has just broken a consecutive streak of point actions of 71 that missed point after leaves the Saints to point shy of the Falcons the Atlanta Falcons defense had exactly the warning they doubled the inside guy Bobby a bear still threw it to him he'd be two guys here for a touchdown see take a look again number 84 they're faking the Blitz case inside Brett Clarke outside the beats case perfect throw perfect tense boy here's a frickin nature Martin Anderson missing an extra point hits that up variety got lucky in the first quarter when he hit the upright for three points in a field goal this time not so lucky misses an easy chip shot and Eric Martin who had dropped the pass earlier certainly had some figurative stick them married Campbell you can't be very happy he faked the Blitz double-team the inside guy a bear read it wrong through to the inside guy Martin and he still caught the ball for a touchdown that's very frustrating for any defensive coach call the right play the players don't execute a proper Anderson got a lot of foot in that play in stamps decides wisely not to take it out of the end zone and the Falcons will have eight seconds on the game clock change what would you do you throw a bomb here going happy that you're down you're up 14 to 12 now you know I'm certainly going to say that Mary Ann Campbell ought to stay with what what philosophically has been his approach and that's the state conservative and you hear the official dick hand tack indicating to take the clock back to ten seconds two seconds that ticked off of the clock it just came to more than I get ten seconds William innovate still stay conservative do you think so yeah I think they're very happy where they're at right now and that it was do it the two-point lead and it's a running play as settled goes straight ahead up to the 25-yard line a pickup a five though that'll do it so the Atlanta Falcons Lamora certainly has done the job in his third year here just as Morten Andersen ticking off back deep for the Falcons Sylvester stamps takes it on his own one across the 20 and a big hip applied but spent somehow was able to spin out of that and pick up an extra couple of yards so a 20-yard return by Sylvester stamps and by in the first half Jamie Jukes number 64 had replaced John Sculley don't know if there was an injury or whether or not they'd just taken Scully out but it is a change in the Atlanta offensive line this is unusual stretching pattern Gerald bricks I think it's a little tight Atlanta takes over in the home 21 first and 10 no back to pass on first down and it's complete near the first down marker Floyd Dixon and Dixon has had his troubles in the first half holding on system passes about there did a nice job of catching the ball made it a nice adjustment because they blitzed the strong safety number 27 Gibson on that one nice read by kristin Olie nice pattern second is short this is one of the things that they have to do is have success on first down they did it in the first half and they're starting out the second half in the same way a PRP cup bringing up second and two there's this famous Ramon's slashing runner and a late flag antek arguing with Britt Maxie you Tony Elliott the culprit jhamora not liking to leave things are starting in the second half and Atlanta will use that penalty to get even better field position ball moved up to the 48 yard line of the Falcons as a young number one pick drago's is nicknamed tell you what he's got the haircut six-five gene and fifty pounds this he'll give every team he facing the NFL the type of trouble that Drago did rocky this is James premise and premise running hard rookie out of UCLA had a chance to take a lot of notes from Gaston Greene I'll tell you what you when you allow a running back to turn and go north/south he's going to give some yards and if you look here gets the toss nice lead block by 44 but he gets a hole turns it north/south there he goes yardage that's something that you can't allow from a defensive standpoint that can't allow that guy to go north-south through the shoulders second and five for the Falcons just underway in the third quarter stamps in motion Miller under pressure from Ricky Jackson gets it away - John settled first down yard is but the question is whether Miller was in the grass and it looks as though they're saying that he was in the grass but Ricky Jackson came lifting in on that play it talks about Ricky Jackson and pets swirling wanting to looks more Jaxon's they're good athlete holds on does he have them I think he's definitely got it he start exposing that quarterback shoulder pads Nixon you know he's gonna start exposing a lot more as Jackson's first sack of the season he and swilling went scoreless or cyclists last week against the 49ers third and 18 for the fathers up to the 45 ball is dead so that'll bring on a punting situation for the Falcons settle only able to get five of the 18 yards back that time the New Orleans Saints defense did a good job of anticipating that draw play settles a good runner but he's not the threat that Gerald Riggs is when he's in the lineup no.8 last time caught the ball on the 1-yard line in the first half everybody's got a little cobwebs out of themselves they enter into regular season I don't think you'll see him do that very often the season his last return is 40 11 yards barely gets that one away a high short punt of Falcons bounce that a saint's balance I don't know what the special teams are doing on that play Reggie sup number 29 came in but nobody down the ballers was coming back towards these offensive line of scrimmage football league and Rick Donnelly but look at number 41 for the Falcons Tim Gordon you have to fan out and he has to take 29 Reggie Sutton he doesn't do it and this almost was fully blocked but certainly was partially blocked it leads to a three yard net punt for the Atlanta Falcons big break for New Orleans first and ten for the Saints all on the 48 of Atlanta and ba-ba they're frustrated that his players don't know the formation who only has to waste the time out obviously somebody doesn't know their card formation very well he came out saying flush if somebody must have been thinking he was saying Queens or something Bobby Hebert was pretty why's there no sense that starting off the second half here with a bad formation it'll be doubleheader week here on CBS next week the enemy was seen New Orleans and Detroit Minnesota Chicago that'll be a big one and Philadelphia and Washington Randall Cunningham looking strong after week one in the second half about double-header the New York Giants will travel to Dallas and these very same Falcons will travel to San Francisco all-stars with NFL today at 12:30 Eastern Time next week right here on CBS I think anybody's really worried about those games right now this is a good one Saints have excellent field position something they really didn't have in the first half Greg Heyward Dalton Hilliard the backs Hilliard split out as a wide receiver at the bottom of your screen Lonzo Hill in motion quick pass to Eric Martin and Martin picks up about three on the play good job there by the defense Rick Bryan coming out all the way from the right defensive end position and a little help from Michael Reid the backup linebacker replaced the injured Marcus cut they're worried a little bit whenever second-year player didn't really think mentally into the game because he doesn't think he's going to start and I'm sure he'll get tested today in the second half secondly seven for the Saints Hillier and the Saints keeping the ball on the ground hillier I have four about soon and I'll bring up the third down Marcus cotton isn't even on the sidelines here so it looks as though young Michael Reed a second-year player out of Wisconsin is gonna have to do the job for the falcon defense on that right side 1110 remaining in the third quarter third and five for the Saints they voted our plus package out of the shotgun ba ba there completely Martin and Eric Martin gives the Saints a first down run out of bounds by Scott tapes well in the first half they were running inside patterns with this flush formation alle change it up Scott case coming covering man-to-man and you gonna see a little push off here nice little push gives an easy route first down the air partner kind of frustrating is the defensive back they're anticipating those in loose because they ran those in the first half now of course they made some adjustments to say hey we'll give you a little change up here we're gonna run some outs from the guy who's inside on that floor of wide receiver formation Saints in Falcon territory specifically the 29 Hayward out left this is millions of all carrier and Gilligan what they like sighs one thing good two yard lines over the place Rhett Clark want to stop random Connor play here with hildenburg coming over with Stan Brock Hilliard likes to run out of this one back offense it's the Washington countered Gap flank at watch oh that's a great blocking by the offensive line but once it gets through their low center of gravity it doesn't anybody there to make the tackle 11 carries 72 yards on the afternoon for Dalton Hilliard first intent for the Saints at the 17 of Atlanta Saints trail by two and Atlanta will be signaled for all sides encroachment defense number 75 five-yard penalty first time when you're 63 218 pounds once you start moving forward it's difficult to stop him well that's one of the few penalties that the Falcon defense is committed this afternoon Tony Casillas Pittsburgh was a big leap now 1910 over Washington third quarter troubles in DC first in five ball on the 12 of the Falcons hey work at the line of scrimmage Andres briefs and on the tackle with a little help good job by Andre Bruce coming down from that left line back in position just closing it down making a tackle pretty simple play going against the tight end tried to sucker him who took it inside I didn't try to take an easy block influence time outside instead he just I don't know if he's stunted but he took it inside made a nice phone brings up a second in five and the slide moving maize Mays trying to pick his hole and it signal as a fumble by the Atlanta players will wait for the official call say saint saint still have the policy the farmer cannot be created by hitting the ground looks as though we might have an instant replay on this one however dick hand tack authoritative Lee signals New Orleans ball see the defensive guys yelling and screaming hey we we think we should have it you know New Orleans here in the second half got good field position down the 50-yard line has rooted the ball pretty impressively on this Drive nothing really fancy two tight ends only one wide receiver two running backs but they they've done what they wanted to accomplish not creating the penalties if they were really plagued with here in the first half so it's third and three ball on the ten of Atlanta 856 remaining in the third 1412 ballgame Falcons on top got to watch a fade pattern on this one hey there timid receiver was Robert Clark but there's a flag on the play and the call was born Robert Clarke pushing off Scott case may not be one of the better known ones around the league it's cornerback but he's good take a look here all the wide receivers are in tight you can almost anticipate a fade pattern here it wasn't Robert Clark who got called for this but number 81 well that's a costly penalty for the New Orleans Saints and Zack made a mistake okay - I don't know their name 89 is what an 81 do they do not see those wide receivers are in tight around the numbers who got to believe your defensive back think they want extra room to try to get the fade pennant for touchdown but Andersen boots it through regardless a 27-yard field goal by Morten Andersen and New Orleans not pretty but effective as they take the lead and the footboard AMISOM the sinks take the first lead of the game 1514 over the Falcons back in the endzone Sam's wisely decides not to bring it out looking at J hildenburg Joel miltenberg his brother J play with News Chicago that Zola's playing rate Garber he also is a center snapper here on his floor go with Hanson the punter right in his shoulder pad is not a good snap took off the timing Anderson corrects it and doesn't have a strong kick over full field goal but nonetheless it's good has not missed inside the 40 since 1986 Hillenburg working double duty normally a backup lineman and at the starting right guard as well as long snappy for the Falcons ball on their own 28 [Music] as too far important for Remus coming up after NFL actions ready to be US Open tennis men's his fourth consecutive US Open title Madison V Lynaugh that will be following football right here on CBS James right now I ever wonder why Gerald Briggs is on the sidelines might have some some tightness in his body or something maybe a fat problem we saw him stretching a few minutes second intent ball on the 20 [Music] in motion [Applause] gets it away - John settled [Applause] takes it from the first down but an awful lot of pressure apply on Chris Miller by Pat's Lily again a young quarterback they're putting pressure on to see whether or not he makes the right decision to put stamps out in Motion's Nick the full-back settle throw nice block by flailing heading off to pursue play Vaughn Johnson opens up for a big game for me I tell you what you got to be very impressed with this young second-year quarterback he's getting pressure and has to make quick decisions and is making the right one not a big player but coach Campbell says he can take a shot doesn't want to take too many first intends of the Falcons bail all at the 30th Atlanta play-action to settle out on the back and I settled [Music] there is a flag on the play this would be another 15 yards roughing the passer was to be the call [Music] right in I think they came in to slowly Oswald [Music] let the quarterback go these days it looks willing comes in money in time to throw good protection by the line boy a game month for for harm to the throat we're gonna get 15 yards every time you try that one you can argue but he knows to you gaming gaming oh they go hit so I'm sorry don't give you the 15 but they're going to do it every time six penalties for 55 yards against the Saints the options at the 45 of the fates [Music] under pressure having to Tim rose wanted to put his number against the chest of Chris Miller well I'll tell you about that time he came from the other line back in position Randy Jackson 57 Ricky Jackson 57 bucks Elliott came in with good pressure in Wilkes this time just pushed him out of bounds wasn't there another cheap penalty and it looks as though Steve Sid Wallace defensive coordinator for the Orleans Saints is going to put pressure on this kid in the second half see what we're not Chris Miller can consistently beat a very cohesive and talented defense a loss on the play brings up second in 15 ball at the 49 [Music] hand off to settle settles going nowhere and a Saints defense fired up prank war and on the stop like a fool he once fool me twice without a third time they spread everybody out try to run that drop plane I've been told why bankers we're calling up that pet played the line of scrimmage before the ball was had just play by the interior line of New Orleans Saints than that play along with pawnshops brings up third in law burden 15 to be exact and Jessie Hester in the game for the first time for the Falcons James Brown along with Gary fencing here in Atlanta the Falcons face with a third and 15 situations four wideouts them Michael Hayes well rookie out of northern Arizona helps the Falcons out of a big hole again the lone receiver to the left of your screen paints makes an inside move Sutton's there looked like a little contact perhaps leap forward before he actually caught that ball rubs him into the turn into the turf here have some of this and his fourth down [Music] well it was a big help but not enough as the Falcons are two yards shy of the first down Donnelly's in the punch for the Falcons back deep for the st. smell great and dick hand tack signals are stop time' in the action you always the second time out that very often you're going to see a sign bahcall on a punt return I would have almost expected Atlanta to be a little more concerned after almost having a block punt the previous possession looking at Steve sit with all the defensive coordinator for the Saints shored up his defense here in the second half but I don't think anybody on that team is very happy with the way this games been going Rick Donnelly into punch for the Falcons and Donnelly gets abused up a high one but it's heading to the end zone and the Saints will take over at their own 20 last time these two teams met last year the Falcons were blown out 38 to nothing and a first drive of the game Lane's quarterback Bobby a bear the 7 yard touchdown pass that might Jones to put the Singh's up by a touchdown five interceptions on a day throw by scott campbell then of the falcons first home shutout in Atlanta just 338 to nothin Saints Falcons looking a lot better today trailing by only one blaming those kind of blowout games stay in your memory a long time I'm sure that the Falcons are aware of it and they're playing off that emotion today first and ten for the safes hey bear play-action besides to run it gets back near the line of scrimmage on the stop they try to counter screen pass on that one kinda difficult to describe that but a lot of bodies going a lot of different ways the Balkan defense did a good job is smelling it out for stay Viera to try to run the ball dick hand tack signals a time out on the field as Mike Gann is the injured player for the Atlanta Falcons well one thing we talked about it's warm it's very humid really takes his toll on the players on the field not a lot of wind down there to suck it up [Music] go up the field under his own power good sign for the Falcons second and nine what things 21 5 24 Saints on top by one play action by a bear in downfield completes a holy prayer the tight-end takes it out of bounds near the 45 yard line a 24 yard pickup well I was looking after the play and John Ratey the inside linebackers of the Falcons is screaming and yelling at some young players I think they blew a coverage on that one Brenner came from the right side of your screen and he came in just for the tight hip position got behind and I think Andre Bruce probably took the wrong guy committed to a wide receiver so taking that tight in wasting time for the states at the 40 for their own [Music] body [Applause] more solution Yoga inside the ball is he's going down what was the ball pick up that ball in the daughters Bobby is our really bad back there prevented that touchstone [Music] there's opportunity here for laughs [Applause] so John settle [Applause] I'd like to call up lyrics and Parros vote for six on this one just murder cut his balls just published by the Saints go from the alternative receive for first down tell you what I think that was a good cause reporter for the Saints 44 verses 44 john searle coming outside almost out of balance I've given the ban for the job but that's clearly a late hit and he got the whistle that is wrong everybody did a cheap shot at least make sure the guy goes down Dave Waner first Pro Bowl last year in 87 very heady play uncharacteristic play by Dave Weimer from first and goal for the Falcons Paul at the seven of the Saints for the Dolphins decides to run it he gets down near the one ran the quarterback draw the tips for busting stamps run em out took Alex hit then the tight end spread him out so now you've got the secondary coverage in the linebackers worrying about pastors spread out wide and they runs the quarterback draw two to the one yard line this is a very typical playing a goal line to exit hundred sixty-four is recovery and saw the break long enough but he got through blocking almost a touchdown can't slide on this one's going to stick his head into it keep close to scoring on that play second and goal famous and settled the runningback stand for [Music] [Applause] I tell you what New Orleans is making some real Arizona I just had to call another timeout they didn't have the right person Ellen seems to be some real confusion here today with the New Orleans Saints defensive offensive and even as tough a team alignment [Music] Tim Horace got the absolutely furious that he's wasted time out because they didn't have the right personnel in the ball game and risk it on the third the height of this organization [Music] as Jamie Dukes in for the Atlanta Falcons third-year player out of Florida State reporting in as an eligible receiver Ramos unsettled the running backs second and goal ball not the one for the Falcons this is settled and a flag is thrown the Falcons [Music] [Applause] the fountains are saying touchdown [Applause] so the touchdown a very impressive drive by a young go to the left side alignment behind Jamie Dukes mic can quit stick there was not enough to prevent him from going over for a touchdown looking fancy about this who wants it more who watches the settle wanted more for the touchdown [Applause] [Music] regains the lead [Applause] Sixpoint pea a New Orleans turnover fumble recovery by Bobby Butler leads to a new mate that an Atlanta touchdown and the Falcons take the lead 21:15 with 359 remaining in the third who's accosted 20 across the 30 near the by now grey david coudn't on the stop I tell you what when you get a big momentum dries like they did to us then you should see those guys on special teams they were flying gone with with power packs on their back before so gradients on that way last week New Orleans had three turnovers two interceptions at one fumble today growing the third quarter they've got four fumble party for yard now Labre gives the Saints the ball at their own Freddy's well done Martin to the light this is do the maze the ball carrier maze Plus I think they're gonna be right side of that Falcon defencive got her second year guide Michael Reid in there been running away from that dirt on the infield behind those big guys to Rusty Edelman they've got a very fleet back in number 36 for the Saints all after all in 46 3:14 115 they're back to pass takes it near midfield for yard pickup these are getting turned up a few notches here I think we're getting a geyser going into the locker room mic gear number 76 just went in take a look he's had a rough day between the fourth quarter [Music] oh I can just see you see these things are just hitting me is getting harder here in the third quarter these guys are getting tired but they're turning up a notch as they can smell victory to the Atlanta Falcons Reggie camp is in that left him to replace Mike Gann second is six ball at midfield for the Saints Hill in motion [Music] with the six yard line stop by John Ratey late he had to chase him down split hangar it out again running that one back off and hilly responding plenty of yards to get to get to the Dolphins now they take him out and bring in really maize and keep those backs brush I correct myself I only have one bag he's 260 pounds a bag he looks like - but he's only one of Atlanta first in 1026 Martin in motion up top the drawing ties [Applause] Michael lien on the coverage well they're going to test a young linebacker who doesn't expect you to play because of the internet number 51 Marcus copy that time a bear tried to lift it over him but my Cree did a great job of coming back face guarding a little bit even though it's legal and preventing the password being completed you can do that as long as you don't wave your arms it's alright to do that prevents the pass from being completed they say you can wait with one hand but not too when you're desperate if you had three wave of on second and 10 this is applause the 42:39 will bring up a third down [Music] what are you doing right now they got the offense really rolling Jim Hamilton used to be the head coach of the st. Louis Cardinals down here is the offensive line coach put those things on your control they've got to feel pretty good if you make the adjustments quick pass protection giving your young quarterback time to find the open receiver st. so five of ten on third conversions thirty-five shotgun Adair across the middle complete and it looks to be enough for the first down Brett Perriman was the receiver and there's a flag on the field things get rough when you're playing defense are playing offense and I think there is a little extracurricular here is to take a look behind Bobby a bear little kick there almost look like Andre Brewster's give me some Taekwondo or something to him what do you think James you know those kicks not a very good kick got a 15 yards good enough for 15 I guess you're right I always smelled if you're gonna get your kicks in make it worth 15 yards that was done brows key and Andre Bruce on the pushing action see that's a smart play by Jeff Ross me smart because he he didn't retaliate got the 15 yards defense number 93 15 yards go today young he wants to make a big impression [Music] mistake both play emotionally but you got to stay within yourself the neck is a big 15-yard penalty against the thousands and the Saints on the strength of that penalty marched inside the 20-yard line of the Falcons ball marked at the 17 degree first and 10 the key is when you make one mistake that you don't compound it make - let's see how Andres does this time 35 seconds remaining Willie Mays lays across the pen [Applause] [Music] [Applause] yard touchdown run by Reuben rains brutha maze gives that quickness to their office they really need little misdirection play right inside they flip and take a look here some great blocking Hayward gets it away of Rubin maze but also some Falcon defenders and maze cuts it to the corner for a touchdown his first touchdown of the year and Morton Anderson [Music] 45 we spiked the ball which you cannot do by it will be assessed on the kickoff touchdown you taking the fun out of the game James he wouldn't be able to score the touchdown but what's that's the fun spike to the ball take that away this year cannot do that Jim throat in the face Latifah some guy after running over he'll learn Gordon Anderson looking to break the 2121 tie [Music] [Applause] [Music] with 19 seconds remaining in the third those face take a 2221 lead over the falconer good ball game back and forth back and forth is right the defenses of both sides of it having some problem both offense have been doing well Reuben Mays didn't start today but coach Morris said that he he had to get him into the offense some because he just has so much acceleration to more speed than maybe Fulton Hilliard has to watch this play little misdirection play gets past 96 and now it's just know he can go inside outside specialist will help lute they're so nice blocking by his wide receivers in 45 Hayward for the first touchdown of the year for number 36 Reuben Mays and the first rushing touchdown for the things coach Marra said it was very pleased with the attitude of Ruben Mays many thought that he might be complaining because he lost his starting position to Dalton Hilliard we're very pleased because they have to good quality facts you can shuffle them in they both have important contributions to make and will make throughout this 1988 season for the New Orleans Saints and when you combine that with a big 260-pound fullback defensive player at the end of the day you look you take your helmet off and you because whole bunch of marks on your forehead your shoulder hurts your whole body who the kitchen a lot of different ways with the offense with the running game in the sanctum presenta [Music] seven plays 65 yards three minutes and 40 seconds 17-yard touchdown run don't know whether you're hearing the Falcon or the Saints fans cheering here I said earlier a large contingent well they got the Who Dat going they have reason to be happy they finally got the lead here very impressive tries by both offenses know if that says a lot about your defense cuz they have a lot of talent Silvestre stamps back deep received as Martin Anderson kick and Anderson has really been putting some foot in these big stamps besides to bring it out [Applause] and he's at the 22 maxie breath I don't think that Maxie would appreciate me reversing his name [Music] just give him credit he'll be happy I think certainly not his mother and that was the first few kickoffs I think the Sylvester stance today will take out of the end zone Martin Anderson kicking very deep today on the kickoff first and 10 for the Falcons at their own 20 to nine seconds remaining in the third quarter [Applause] John settle out of the backfield with a 24-yard line plate took only five seconds he had to be very impressed with Chris Miller again they're coming in with a lot of heat a lot of pressure and he had to throw a very typical past almost sideways to number 44 John settle for the completion this guy has not been rattled by the pressure he's received today from the very good defense [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] while they try to run a quick screen but you don't we've got to give the quarterback a little bit of time to seem to play develop you know Chris Miller talks to them of course yesterday well the Sakai Marion camel say he's a gym rat who can play every sport well he got drafted by the Seattle Mariners in baseball point another sport football of course the Falcon things are very happy brings up a third down [Music] 37 Jackson the linebacker for New Orleans almost had a hand on that pass intended for his face he Bailey but there is a flag wanna play and he's holding against the Falcons [Music] as Jamie dukes Jamie Zeus replacing John Sculley was on the sideline with a wrap around his right thigh Wilson so he's just unable to go putting in a young guy against a very good team started on the fourth quarter here in Atlanta Saints on top 22 21 this is Rick Donnelly hunting for the Falcons Mel Greig back for the Saints and great our flag is growing on a play man he knew his own man on that one after making some great invasions where two spies were hunting coming down to him 38-yard punt signals want to go against the saints take away a little bit of that good field position on returning in the 28 10-yard penalty [Music] gene actions so hard-earned nine yard return by Mel gray will be wiped out I don't think coach has ever looked happy in the sideline but Jim Moore is not a very happy coach another how many piece of dummies gone since today there could be a big one 42:10 and he napped us over the Bears they'll tie ball game between the Hayes lotta Coast games here going into the fourth quarter and Timmy Smith the running backs for the Washington Redskins ejected for pushing an official on that one first and ten for the seats after own 31 just underway in the fourth quarter that gets a big hole [Applause] first down picked up by Craig Hayward Chris Miller took a heck of a hip stevevls coming over to see if he's alright to see what he has take that baseball cap up and start loosening up just knowing that last series took a heck of a hit on third down into his thigh it looks like it'll be okay [Music] an 11-yard gain by craig hey Wirt rookie out of Pittsburgh first intend for the Saints after all say four top by one [Music] hey work across the 45 to the 46 a gain of five they pulled Brad Edelman on that one now say in a fourth-quarter everybody's a little bit tired of 40 number 45 260 pounds can really start taking his toll in the fourth quarter when everybody's legs aren't quite fresh it looks pretty fresh he's got great acceleration but he also moves so well for a guy that pig doesn't says he's having fun he's having fun but no one else is when he has to tackle [Music] all marked at New Orleans 46 couldn't find anywhere to go on the left side of that run [Music] and a New Orleans player slow of getting up John Ratey and Michael Reed were in on the stop looks like number 85 Hobie Brenner there'd be an awful big loss to to the Orleans office and he corrected the New Orleans offensive we'll see how he hasn't we come back game here in Atlanta both quarterbacks joined a job statistically Bobby Adair and Chris Miller but the turnovers poor turnovers by New Orleans is hurting them that's why they only enjoy a one-point lead 22 to 21 and Gary that's in sticking with the theme that we talked about at the top of the show so really as we said no one who won last week if they gave the ball more than they took it away and so far has been a very close game Atlanta has played extremely well I'm sure Jim Moore is not very happy the way the Saints to play New Orleans are certainly got a whole foot better 12 minutes and 56 seconds remaining in the contest and for Saints at their own 47 Brett Perriman in motion complete to Eric Martin and Martin move Payson applause down to about the 43-yard line [Music] at that time they had four wide receivers they brought one across the field and picta picked the defensive bachelors in man-to-man coverage loudly receiver to get open continues to drive and a bear doing a good job of picking out his receivers keeps the drive alive the Saints at the 41 of Atlanta first and 10 look to the right across the 40 down to the 37 yard line about for my cans back in the game that makes a nice stick there with Joelle Williams I think they have a good idea those veterans what's going to happen now we can try some play ice and passes but they're just going to give it to number 45 to see whether or not they can wear down that front 70 [Music] his brother raised up a second and seventh for the Saints balled up the 38 of Atlanta maze now live a 35-yard line you know when you've got a guy who's in the full-back position who weighs more than probably Joel Hilton burgers starting right guard you know you're going to get some blocking on this play it took some short motion he was already out there on the contain man lot moving means to pick and choose what hole he wanted to go as we went to commercial Hobie Brenner was the injured New Orleans sink player on the field and injured hip and was questionable as to whether or not he'll be back in the game leaves it up to John Heise 82 very capable tied in to do the job and for for the seats at the Falcons 35 and a great catch by John twice going down down yardage the top size is a very very big side end he's going against the linebacker on this 165 250 pounds one-on-one against John Rainey he invites the contact that's legal lady loses his balance and he makes a nice dive in country to close down now John Brady's would say hey that's illegal but was it within five yards is completely legal just pushed off when we went for the first down Saints after 26 of the lens on 953 remaining in the third hey bear back to pass on first Dale has Heyward out of the backfield Heyward and over an earthquake on the right side of the field as they werent landed inside the 10 that's a big man to Jive over I think if I was coming in and making this tackle and I went whoa and he jumped I would hope that he just didn't land on me comes out of the backfield good hands you can see there how he's going to jump a little over the defensive back over 34 more God ladies lucky didn't fall on him number 59 he might have gotten knocked out of the ballgame my departments in whoops rattled the first down marker over there [Applause] overseas who for the 40-yard line a four yard pickup by Dalton Hilliard smashed by Joel who wants to get inside the ten yard line everything is up for grabs and look at number 54 Joelle Williams coming from the inside line back in position where your cuts inside his block then he gets rolled this stick good finishing hit actually hydrate he made the close tip line back has been very active for the fava bean festival Williams [Music] second and goal ball at the four [Music] [Applause] go looking for room [Applause] [Music] [Applause] I see a good running back who makes it touch on all on his own they run this counter playing his gun guys pulling but 34 Robert Laura hasn't s left to right pulls a Houdini move on him I'm here now I'm gone mr. race for the flag and just out races John rating lot of arm tackling in pori does that guy want a touchdown or what dives in for the touchdown on a phone Africa [Music] make that eight 29:21 sings hello businesses is sponsored by all steep for home auto and life insurance during good hands with Allstate Michelin Michelin because so much is riding on your tires and by Subaru we built our reputation by building a better car New Orleans second rushing touchdown another season gives them a 29 21 lead over the Falcons 852 remaining in the fourth Anderson with the low long kick scooped up by stamps at the two and stamp stuff just inside the 25 ten plays seventy yards five minutes 55 seconds [Music] his own 4 yard touchdown run the Saints we're number one in rushing touchdowns last year with 20 builder gave him their second one out this season well trying to see what a young quarterbacks made of eight points down plenty of time left in the fourth quarter and you don't want to let your deepness have to stand to feel too long in the fourth quarters they need some time on defense on first down the handoff to settle and settle it finds the hole [Applause] pay for a gun he wasn't supposed to start today this guy has fresh legs watched us settle go to the line to put block really good blocking by his offensive line cuts back across the field and it's a race to the goal line van shakes number 22 up coming to your screen the last guy he's humping a pump and put parking there you don't really skill out of that hey settles was having one heck of a game the placing number 42 jailbreak [Applause] a 62-yard game and this is subtle again as he goes ahead to the 10 a three-yard pickup by John settled [Music] i'ma tell you something I'm surprised at games so he just ran 60 yards I'm sure he's at hunger humping the pumpkins aw hey guys give it to somebody else's play look at these pushdown averages pulse teams not doing the job defensively against two offenses are really having a better end of it today well it was a big play seven ball at the ten of this [Applause] like to pass Jackson puts them on the grass [Applause] number three protection [Music] micki Jackson told me last night he wanted a blitz more they blitz the outside linebacker and a strong safety on this one man-to-man coverage good coverage by the secondary didn't have time to throw big sack for the defender Ricky Jackson and pets willing to counter for 20 SEC's of the 47 reported by New Orleans last season Jackson's got three so far brings up third and 21 for the Falcons 24 under pressure again [Applause] Frank Warren drags them out of bounds and very us why Riggs is not playing simply a coach's decision well has certainly have very important parts of this offense but the other backs are doing a great job I'm sure Marion Campbell says hey I want to make sure that I have Gerald Riggs for the entire season not just one or two games that was a big series of defense from big plays by the New Orleans Saints to prevent them from getting in for a touchdown a big play coming up with Greg Davis our 41 yard attempt and it's [Applause] [Music] man who made his mark as a replacement player last year with the Falcons this is a 41 yards old field goal attempt still trail by 8 [Music] the court to that tennis final to see if the machine Yvonne Lindell in his fourth straight US Open title both of these offenses have looked like a tennis match today up and down that field back and forth in long long rallies Cajun fans on hand and occasion born quarterback Bobby a bear Louisiana certainly has produced some awfully good quarterbacks over the years Bobby a bear Doug Williams Carrie Bradshaw's you take a look at the scoring by quarters good ballgame eight point difference 707 remaining in the contest first content for the station around 24 May across the 30 to the 33 here number one draft choice we thought is Andre Bruce you know you're involved today because they have run right Reuben Hayes looks pretty first I gotta wonder about that Falcon defense right now then up a little skull getting back to the huddle they know they're going to see a 260-pound fullback going inside burying camels got to decide when Andre bruised that picked neck collar on got to get in there and make some plays out left side if I can handle all the New Orleans things to eat the clock up second su-- ball dr. 32 [Music] May's again [Music] well there you have it kicker Connor we're the only two guys that really talk and stay with one another during the entire game Davis this an important fuel goes in but check system been to inform a little bit at the end [Music] ladies wound up just shy of the Spurs down that will bring up third in inches [Music] he's got the first down plus a couple so a woman made when out of my body Butler Butler that is means last week carried the ball two times for only four yards has now gone over 75 yards on the afternoon Reuben Mays of course we do would be a very important part it will be a part of this offense because again you got two very fresh good running backs plus the big fullback it really makes your passing game even more effective all controlled by the Saints with 5:23 I ate [Music] this is May's one first down again as he runs it to Mike Dan coming up after football here and outstanding finally US Open tennis action yvonne Lindell against number two seed Mats Wilander who do you like there I think I like Yvan Lendl because he's already won the last three but let's just hope there isn't any wind up in New York so those guys don't have to worry about it I'm sure they don't care at this point they got to where they want to be and it could be raining and they'd still be willing to play it's almost like Lin dilemma Wilander clean in their own backyard Lindell will be making his seventh appearance in the US Open final here we got the New Orleans Saints all on their own 38 for 36 remaining [Music] up near the 40 football game going on between the Giants and the 49ers Giants just went ahead by four under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter their 14 yard touchdown pass from Simms to Manuel well here Marion Campbell you got to start making some decisions here are you gonna blitz to try to stop the running game because New Orleans would be very content to run this ball game out with four minutes to go just give it to their backs eat up that time on the clock you gotta do something to make something happen real quick because you've got to give you offense enough time to score not just once but twice before the end of the game the Saints were the best in the league last year it time possession ball possession ah the shotgun thirty-six [Applause] and it's complete [Applause] and the drive stays the lies as Robert Clark calls in the Bobby hey bear pass Clark was going against Charles Demery on this day bear has time to pick up the receiver he wants to go to Jimmy not close enough on the Mandan damn protection but look at that catch it's really a fine catch the number 89 and is this a sign and unfortunate omen for the Falcons as the rain starts to come down with 3:07 remaining in the game Falcons trailing by eight first and ten for the Saints ball at the 48 of New Orleans yo you're in motion [Music] aimer the ball carrier [Music] and it takes four red jerseys to bring down the big fella well he knows a little bit of rain I don't think too many of those New Orleans Saints fans are going to leave they came prepared they did ba ba Vera's had an outstanding afternoon passing the ball not giving it up through interception we have a timeout here [Music] their first car you know I think Joelle Williams number 54 is and come over to Marion Campbell and say what are we doing here guys probably got a blitz just play zone they're gonna run this ball and we're not gonna have any time to score a touchdown on the other side well certainly those Falcons fans showed up today really have reason to be heartened with the performance by the Falcons today I'll tell you what's mr. Miller the quarterback they have outstanding job Willie running backs John said well I'm out standing afternoon won't even scheduled his start came in when Gerald Briggs was taken out had a great afternoon I clean one one very talented team and I think that certainly the improvement that we've seen here today with Atlanta versus where they were at last year must be encouraging to every Falcon fan who's watching this game and the Saints very flat in the first half as you indicated not a very pretty second half but effective and productive they got back to where the strengthes team is you know last week had passed the ball a lot out of necessity ba behavior had an outstanding afternoon slang for completing over 70% his pass this book he and everyone else in that offense of Defense know that this is a running team they got to establish that run to be successful they're doing it here in the second half mrs. Rubin May [Music] to the 47 yard line aim of about three before being stopped by Tony Casillas [Music] [Applause] we're gonna start seeing Ruben Mays Dalton Hilliard Hayward they're gonna run a little poor in control because they don't want to get stripped of that football they're gonna cover it up with two hands make sure there's no opportunity for a cheap turnover that might give the talk is an opportunity to get good field position and quickly score [Music] we don't we don't have the only good game in town this is a great one going on there certainly a Joe Montana to Jerry Rice that connection again for a touchdown 80 yards and you know that both teams on this field are looking at that the Atlanta Falcons go out to San Francisco next weekend well these very same Saints broke Jerry Rice successive streaks in terms of catching touchdowns per game looks like he's on his way to starting another streak but that touchdown there [Music] what do you think they're gonna do here frozen for I'll let you make the call James across the middle to Perryman and where they marked the Ford progress looks to be a little shy of a first down Brett Perriman injured his ankle last week against the 49ers said he not 100% and did not expect to play today but he's in there [Music] and we're at the two-minute mark of this contest plates on top 29:21 the 9 to 21 an turnovers certainly have played an important part of this game but with two minutes left in the ballgame Campbell of course plays that bin but don't break defenseman should he get creative I think they're gonna punt the ball and try to pin him in make it very difficult for him to scores before the end of the game Brian Hanson into punch for the Saints Aubree Matthews back for the Falcons Matthews the size to let it hit and his [Music] excellent cut by Bobby Hansen and again we were talking about whether Matt Marian Campbell ought to get creative one defense to try to get the ball back here for us I think right now you got to worry more about New Orleans the last 97 98 yards to go they're gonna play soft white clay what a lot of people hate to see is that prevent defense but they can allow more than just one touchdown and still win this game and we've got a closer one with under two minutes to take a look at Marion Campbell the wheels turning injured New Orleans player being taken off the field they intended to the other problem they have is that offensively the Falcons only have one timeout remaining they've got 94 yards to go for a touchdown and that still will keep them a several points short of evening time the New Orleans Saints the engine player for the Saints being led off the field is Brett Maxie gonna be going against the nickel defense here first and ten for the Falcons pinned at their own four [Music] [Applause] Noah with time complete up near the 15-yard line Audrey Matthews clothes covers that time by van Jakes say sailor nickel package in there just gonna drop back into zones see how long it takes me to leave down the field only has a minute 40 left second in one Falcons in their rocket package law whiteouts Miller decides to run no he's passing and out of the hands of Floyd Dixon the changes I think at some point you just got to let it loose and hope for a interference call or maybe a completion tip pass or something because you really only have a little over a minute to go and you need more than one score so I think they've got to go deep soon once we get it to completion of this game numbers 1 and numbers 2 and then delivery handle this would be a great match one per Dale to pass under throws the intended receiver Aubrey Matthews bring up a big decision for Marion Campbell then again not too much of a decision fourth and one 1:12 remaining in the game we got 41 you need to get the first down you only need maybe a foot or so but you do go up and then you have to worry about the clock running out I think he's going to make a sure easy zone zone past here for the first down then go to a no-huddle offense and go downtown as quick as you can third down conversions haven't been easy Atlanta over eight the last eight they keep it on a ground and it looks to be enough for the first down John settle the ball-carrier not Camilla go for those short passes that's exactly what the defense wants you to do he's gotta throw it deep if he wants his scarf and the clock is running in the direction of Floyd Dixon and complete [Music] I think right now Merlin Saints feel that they've got this game wrapped up because it doesn't look like the Falcons want to go deep the purpose of playing this very loose zone defense is that he does exactly that tries to find a little hole waste a lot of time you've got to go you've got to go deep Chris if you want to try to split you got to go deep and you got to get lucky there's no doubt about it there's not enough time normally to move it down like you're like to second and ten complete to Stacey Bailey and Bailey gets the first down [Music] forty-four seconds remaining in the game Atlanta trailing 29 21 Chris Miller is on an outstanding job for fathers today so that the Saints have much greater respect for this young quarterback from pardon like to see a flea-flicker Assaf to try something special first and ten at of Atlanta this is John subtle maybe a yard before being stalked by Tony Elliot not saying what I can't understand that call at all I mean you gotta hope he's gonna run 60 yards again like you did earlier in the game but it's kind of unlikely you got to throw the ball north and south instead of just hitting little zone completions on second under throw Stacey Bailey with 18 seconds remaining [Music] you almost has to feel they got lucky today it didn't play a good first half if they played very well in the second half both sides of the ball allow them to scramble alot today as he did against the trike kept them in that pocket and made me make some quick decisions and a young quarterback when he's making those quick decisions tends to go short rather than trying to beat the team on third down [Music] thirty going up top and it's intercepted so the new audience thinks come away with the interception Jeanne Adkins second-year player out of Florida am kills the Atlanta drive with ten seconds remaining was about the only chance they had three wide receivers to one side Heathrow found Hail Mary pass but his wide receivers didn't get deep enough to even get to an opportunity to tip the ball up and it was an easy interception the gene Hamptons backup safety like to get those cheap statistics at the end of the game if you're a defensive back that's exactly what you want give it to me get in that statistic book they count better that guy's very happy alright got in there got my got my interception you guys have all your sacks and everything else but I got my pick I'm happy looking at it dejected Chris Miller but I'll tell you what that is going to be a rising star in the NFL very smoothly very confident just a little more experienced he'll know how much time he really does have instead of just going to where the defense gives you start taking advantage of where you think you can go riding those teams she's in the armor he won't be beaten [Music] statistically sound day from Chris Miller 24:36 last week 15 of 29 today two touchdowns only one interception a total of 179 yards I think if you can fault the falcon defense there's another thing you can say is that they they couldn't get the other side off the field took them you know I think they got worn down a little bit with a flying running game in the fourth quarter and dick hand tackle waiting the results of this replay has been review by Jack FET you better bleed now Gina [Music] gene Atkins special got up on that side Ronson hey you not just steal that away from me now I have both feet in ha behavior in the oil factory 1 [Applause] and Jim Mora - Marian cut away with their third consecutive victory against Allah today is 29 to 21 so for Gary's fencing this is James Brown saying so long from Atlanta Fulton County Stadium where the final score is the New Orleans Saints 29 Atlanta 21 you've been watching CBS Sports coverage of the National Football League you
