Russia Unleashes Advanced IFVs to the Frontlines

the war in Ukraine is taking a potentially dangerous turn Russia is deploying a new generation of infantry fighting vehicles to the front lines and these are no ordinary troop [Music] carriers the new BMP 3 and bmd 4m are top-of-the-line machines bristling with Firepower surprisingly Nimble and well armored to protect the soldiers on the ground their arrival on the scene hints at a shift in Russia's military strategy raising fears of a further escalation in the already devastating conflict this move coincides with a reported 20% jump in bmp3 production by kgen Mash zavod a Powerhouse in Russia's defense industry that means Russian forces are receiving 50 % more of these vehicles in 2024 compared to the same period last year this news highlights the surprising sturdiness of Russia's domestic military production even in the face of crippling International sanctions but what exactly do these new ifvs bring to the fight today we'll dissect their capabilities and explore the potential consequences of their deployment on the battlefield stay tuned the bmp3 and bmd 4m are the muscle behind Russia's mechanized infantry to understand these machines we need to look back at the Soviet military thinking that shaped them after the dust settled from World War II the Soviet Red Army valued heavily armored formations that could punch through Enemy Lines this thinking carried over to their infantry fighting Vehicles the bmp1 for instance packed a punch with its Weaponry but it couldn't swim and sat tall on the battlefield making it an easy target the bmp3 rolling off the production line in the 1980s addressed these issues headon built to conquer both water and mountains it sported a powerful 100 mm main gun that could sling high explosive shells to flatten buildings or anti-tank missiles to take out enemy armor this flexibility meant the bmp3 could handle anything from enemy troops to fortified positions to a surprise tank column with equal a plum but that was not all a 30 mm autoc Cannon and a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun provided a hail of fire for lighter targets like armored vehicles or helicopters to conquer Rivers and lakes the bmp3 used water jets to zip around while its fancy suspension could rise and fall giving it extra clearance to clamber over rocks and uneven terrain the bmd 4M on the other hand has a different story born from the cold Wars armor on the sides and a cage structure over the turret roof the bar armor acts as a kind of C statistically deflect collecting some RPG typee projectiles before they reach the vehicle's main armor think of it as a kind of armored lottery ticket it disrupts the projectiles fuse in some cases but is not guaranteed to work every [Music] time for the roof a different kind of protection is employed a cage structure this is meant to detonate or deflect smaller drone mounted explosives or even first-person view drones themselves which Ukraine has been increasingly relying on for attacks while not an impenetrable defense it complicates drone assaults and potentially reduces the damage they inflict the upgrade package also includes the nakka thermal camouflage system this Innovative system aims to reduce the vehicle's thermal signature making it harder for enemy forces equipped with thermal imagers to spot them while the effectiveness of nikitka in the field remains to be seen it represents
