we're gonna figure out if we can put 410 gears on this 355s bad news today we're going to build an xj that i've never seen don't know anything about a guy shipped all the parts they're in a pile over there i just hope we have everything we need he's from colorado that's good you just leave it in neutral today we're building an xj oh it's our first viewer rig i guess you could say oh yes it is our first viewer rig i'm tim hoffer we live in aurora now which is just outside of denver so he drove how many hours 10 yeah 10 hours from colorado to get here so we can work on this thing so hopefully it'll make it 10 hours back when we're done so we're going to do long arm kit rear and pretty much the whole underneath of it so gears in the front we're going to get after it oh there's the rear end there's the and the new there will work yeah so your u-joint's not the same as that there's your first setback we're going to figure out if we can put 410 gears on this 355s bad news it's got to have 373's to be able to put our lower gears in so sway bar keeping it or not keeping it oh not on the rear okay getting serious now brakes are off sway bars off rear end's coming out gutsy is it like christmas over there it is even better it's all you want it's all mine on the ground [Music] she's about rested through seems to be tight there he is there's old papadar those probably go backwards don't they which way do they go what's your opinion they want their logos to go forward do they if that has a map screws in the frame yeah and usually they break off and break or strip i was impressed that's because it knew we didn't have all the right parts so that worked yeah we'll just [Music] yeah we'll have to tear that out of there then we can see where all the oil is coming from there is some oil okay we'll get serious here and pull shocks and put the training jack under it pull all the arms cut those off right there those mounts because the new ones are going to go back here where the trans mound is you know what may be smarter i think that's what i'm going to do first i'm going to get the link mounts put in transmission all dealt with hack and tap done and then i'll put the take the bottom links off put them on and then i'll cut those off that way the front end will hold itself out of the way for a while yep 3 and three sixteenths they're definitely smaller so the front ones are three and three sixteenths and the back ones are two and thirteen sixteenths get this cross member out [Music] i don't know where the third link ties in oh i do you do know i know they're backwards they tie off of that i can see it all now that's how they roll pretty cool setup yeah pretty well thought out why'd you let me put these in backwards you didn't even say a word you just sat there behind the camera the whole time thinking oh he's screwing up and i know it now i'm gonna laugh when he's done put these lock bolts in it and then we can start installing the long arm kit there's that all right now i gotta assemble these let's tear it down probably going to have time we're going to be out of point right shortly we can do the rear gears but then we're going to be out of stuff too we don't want to have to work on darwin's jeep you can't do anything my mom's wood stove took priority she cooks way better dinners than you guys do so it's about time for a new gun it's been to lots of derbies and been in the dirt shocks are off oh they're junk she wants that yeah i'd say that box is burning a little smoke coming out they're not bad way better than gary's jeep was it yeah i had the sawzall and plasma cut a whole pile of them off don't worry i got it next part out we're ready to put a top link in that's tight that's awesome you can't twist it while it's in oh you mean to adjust it well yeah i'm gonna pull the whole thing out turn the bar won't turn physically in there yeah i can't put this top bar in until i cut all that out all right i guess i'll fire a plasma cutter up and get rid of some stuff [Music] so until they can find parts he's not going home he's stuck here long as it don't stay here as long as my jeep over there this is his right home and it's uh it's tore apart what's going on so these were all the spot welds were so we're just filling them in then we'll grind them flat and frame will look like we weren't ever here okay oh i think it's gonna work where did i just set that big pride bar this one you're trying to stash it so i can't find it the track bar is giving us grief so it's leaving the building that's how my day's going so we got a broken bolt right here right there and i can't get the track bar off so we're about to butcher it [Music] [Music] don't buy those all right we'll get her hot [Music] we've got part of it and now we only have to rebuild half the front end and i'll cut that off and we can bend that back close that fire take two fixed good as new get those two bolts in it [Music] [Music] oh it's rotted out that's why all right so this is uh day two on the jeep cherokee build so we run into some snags we thought we got a ford 8.8 that was 410 and it turns out it is 373. so tim found us some gears today we got some 410s for the 8.8 and we're gonna lift that up on here and slap them in it and get the locker installed and cut the spring perches and stuff off this other end that we need so that when our other parts show up we can knock this thing out and get him on his way back to colorado we're not going to throw any of this away right yet just in case it ain't what we need we're going to will that thing underneath there we're going gonna set it on some jack stands and drain the oil out of it slap her together [Applause] we're going to set it on here so we can get this thing gutted oh yeah that'll boil out perfect 90 weight is my least favorite oil i really don't like the way it smells we're about to smell it that oil looks good [Applause] you got it got it still stuck a little rusty on there kind of welded into that should be all right a little bit of rubbing on the brake pedal polish it up good as new i finally got a socket to bite on that thing all right i'm gonna go get some gloves on i hate these things but i hate 90 weight worse well they just don't make them big enough you got webbed fingers then it cuts your circulation off take them off hands like this all day one part two parts three are those spider gears those are spider gears we should have had your mom down here she could have been to name that part i don't think she'd got them this has never been into because it's got these little factory keepers right here that tell you but this thing is still the way it was when it came out of the factory we're going to take them off we got to pull the axles yeah because we got to pull the carrier out put gears on it and then put a locker in it pull c-clip out dust came out that came off the brake shoes we'll pull that one down there's that got it we'll jerk the carrier out now and get some gears off of it all right come over here set that right there grab a couple rags because it's gross that thing did not want off of there all right three seven degrees out lock tight these bad boys up because we don't want them coming out [Music] okay that side of the gears are installed i'll uh get the pinion out now good job though i don't want to get 90 weight all over me but here we go there you go coming out not that bad not that bad it's all over me it's gross and i'm bleeding workman's comp clamp file that with michelle later today we'll get the other one clean it up put that bearing on it put it back together pretty good size difference here you can see in 373 and 410s so we'll get them switched out and be good to go here shortly okay we're gonna throw it right here in this thing it's a little bent there mister i think it'll still do its job my homemade press she serves me well look at that like butter and there's no shims under it we're golden slide that right on in there i think we got enough now oh we got a little bit of resistance on it and no end play perfect all right we got her set up we're running about six thousandths which is good enough for me it's gonna work good okay we're gonna throw this here aussie locker in it right now this is how your locker actually works these little teeth mesh up locked together and when you hear them clicking it's that that clicking noise that you hear in them locked into place installed just like that that little thing that pin locks in between there and locks it up okay the rear end will be built we'll throw some silicone on the diff cover put it back together and tomorrow hopefully we'll have bushings for the leaf springs and we'll put it together
