Ruby And Roses Yarn : How I Knit - Flicking

[Music] hello and welcome my name is addison from ruby rose's yarn and in this video today i'm going to show you how i knit as a flicker i am knitting the into the bloom cowl that i designed and i'm using ruby and rose's yarn in the hagrid's umbrella colorway there will be links in the description where you can purchase the yarn or the pattern okay so let's get started at the moment i am purling as you can see i hope to show you how i purl and how i knit in this video so first of all i'm going to talk about my tension so tension is unique to every knitter it just depends what you like what you like and like what gives you the best gauge so i hold my yarn i divide my fingers like this go over under split these two fingers and then grab the yarn so this is what it looks like in the front and this is what it looks like in the back there we go that's a better view and yeah and you just purl normally except you just never take your hands off the needles you just flick the yarn and just knit regularly i will try to show you slower so it's just regular purling except you just flick the yarn over the stitch and as you can see you can go quite fast [Music] now one tip i have if you are learning how to flick i wish i would have learned it this way to try to knit on the tips of your needles i am trying to do this now like trying to teach myself this new new way it's just a little bit different but see i keep wanting to make bigger motions so just if you knit on the tip you can go a lot faster and i think you wouldn't tire your wrist out as quickly [Music] as soon as i get to the end of this row i will show you how i knit so i used to be a thrower and then all of a sudden i just wanted to increase my speed and my brain just automatically made this transition so i didn't really watch any youtube videos on how to do this technique i just decided to not let go of the needle anymore it took me a while to get get this down and to stop throwing and just keep flicking i'm so happy that i got there in the end because it has just increased my speed and now i can knit for longer periods of time without tiring out my fingers or my wrist and it's just become very efficient and i really love this technique [Music] i'm almost there so i will slow down really quick and i like to make an x with my needle instead of going up or really close together it makes a really nice fluid motion to just make an x and try to be as almost parallel as you can without having to really move your wrist awkwardly [Music] okay now i will show you doing it so similarly i make an x and just slip it in and just flick and my hand never leaves the needle [Music] i also love this technique because it crosses the speed of a continental knitter without having to leave using your right hand and as you can see i'm right-handed so most right-handed knitters in my that i've seen will hold the yarn like this that is what i mean by throwing see how it's so much slower so [Music] and i'm looking at my camera and it's really funny because it looks a lot faster on camera than it does in real life it's still pretty fast but it's funny because it's not really [Music] focusing so it's just regular knitting and purling just keeping your hand on needle and don't be discouraged if you don't get the hang of this really quickly because it took me quite a while to get the knack of this and to be able to do it without even thinking and just completely switch over so it definitely takes time definitely takes practice and if you have any questions i will try my best to answer them in the comments and i think that is about it let me know if you guys want me to do any other tutorial like videos i will do my best to to try and do those for you so thank you so much for watching and i hope you learned something
