[Music] hello everyone it's Kendra here welcome back today I am going to share a short video with some tips and tricks on how to improve your knitting speed while you are English style knitting so a few years ago when I really got into knitting I was a little bit disappointed to learn that typically English style is a slower way to knit than continental and anyways when I discovered that flicking was one way to improve my knitting rather than throwing I really wanted to make those changes and in some recent videos I've had a lot of comments about how I do my flicking and how I can knit so quickly because of it so I thought I'd share a few ideas with you if you are an English on that are already to see and this will help you to pick up speed and also to avoid any hand paint or anything I do find that doing the traditional like throwing method where you drop the needle you grab the yarn and wrap it it really does take a lot more emotion and I find it makes my hands a little bit more sore and I just feel it a little more rather than flicking and so for me when I do my flicking method I hold the yarn close to the end of my finger and I'm able to just move my index finger rather than my whole hand to wrap the yarn so that really is my first suggestion to practice holding this yarn as close to the tip of your finger as you can without losing it and for me in the past I felt a lot more comfortable to be closer to my knuckle however to really improve that speed the closer I am the less I have to move that finger and you can really tell the further it is the more your hand has to move rather than just that finger itself next up I like to keep my stitches close to the end of the needle especially on the left hand needle where these are the stitches I'm coming up to and like on this case with this sweater it may be a little bit of a short cable for the sweater so I do have to kind of shift it around so if I have my next batch of stitches all lined up and ready to go it causes less pausing or less breaks to move things around so once it's kind of a shoved or pushed all the way up and they're really tightly held together I can just use this finger on my left hand to push those stitches up so I don't have to pause it it's just part of the Knitting motion so for example those things working together shows this finger holding that stitch up and my right hand index doing the wrapping and really I then am able to use my right hand thumb to pull these stitches back and just keep them out of the way so these were the tips that really got me going however if you are knitting you find that there's something always holding you up my suggestion is kind of to stop and think about how you can make it happen in a smoother motion and really the more you have to stop or the more you have to move or everything's going it takes a lot longer and it also can be harder on your hands I also find I get a lot better when my hands are loose rather than pulling on really tightly I don't know maybe that's just personal preference but when my hands are holding tightly at just everything takes a lot longer and I feel like I'm just tense and things aren't flowing nicely and for me to get into that nice knitting rhythm where everything is working well I need to have loose hands and just focus on one stitch at a time I do have to stop from time to time and just shift the stitches like I said with this cord it does take a little bit of maneuvering just because the size isn't quite right but it still works and as long as I get a good amount pushed up it is more efficient and than just doing it kind of a stitch at a time so after sharing all that I do want to say it's not that knitting faster is better and if you are happy and comfortable with the way that you are currently knitting even if it's really slow that is fine knitting is not a competition it's just if you are looking to increase your speed or if you are experiencing hand pain from more exaggerated motions then maybe these things can help you analyze what is actually going on with your hands and how can you improve it alright that's really all for me this week thank you so much for watching if you have any suggestions on ways to increase your speed while knitting please leave them down below this is a topic a lot of people seem interested in and I'm sure that appreciate your cleaning from your expertise as well otherwise I will see you next time I hope you are new here please subscribe to see more videos from me in the future bye [Music] you
