Rolls-Royce & Avions Voisin

hi I'm Dennis gage and welcome to my classic car this week we're in frack Ville Pennsylvania to looking at a few of the cars in the collection of Jack rich senior this is a private collection but Jack was gracious enough to let me inside and his curator and chief restorer Mark Liszewski is going to give me the Grand Tour oh you are gonna love this believe me I do [Music] I think it's fabulous I love it this is unbelievable I want one oh sweet oh very much mark are you doing man doing fine thank you what a place you got here it's a little wild this is an amazing collection I mean I've heard about it before but I had no idea it was this extensive we try to keep a little low-key on the outside and overcompensate for that yeah yeah I would I would say this is overcompensate so this is Jack Rich's collection he's you know quite a collector there's I don't know a fish cars there's a little over 80 is down the county you know why I don't I can understand why but it's a magnificent collection and it's it's so you know diverse and eclectic I mean you got you got some like the Lulu Model A sure but then some weird stuff like there's one what coal gas powered car oh yeah yeah a tzitzit Ron right it's a citroën traction Avant yeah I mean back in you know it runs on either coal gas or fuel dual fuel car and in the fenders it's like you know one's a boiler in one's oh yeah you've got a pot-bellied stove and and a hopper and then the other side you've got a filtration system and you know you fire up the coal and let that cook for a while and then turn on a fan underneath the hood and that sucks the gas is up through and you either to run on petrol or you run on the on the vapors and ready to go but then you know you take that to another another extreme would be this weird transformer esque what is that khane 88 a towel design Aztec it was a concept car for the 88 turn Auto Show and like most concept cars they're just a one-and-done car glimpse into the future of what possibly can be well I thought you know I mean it's so weird how it's set up and you can't have a normal conversation because it's good but there's you've got the headphones on they're just like out of a fighter pilot yeah it's pretty bizarre car so that's wild then we've got their little Fiat it's not a jolly but it's Asha let very expensive very exclusive basically built for the people you know had their yachts in Monaco to go get a nice bottle of Cabernet and a baguette and have a good time looks like a blast it is it's a lot of fun and a couple new acquisitions because they're always coming in that this panel sways are there they have the Hispanics 24h six be beautiful town car by Souchak and if you get a look at the doors it's like a bank safes I think they're incredible so he picked up that we picked up the 24 Mercedes 28 ninety-five touring car we've got adalaj dat 120 with a Souchak parallel sliding doors on and actually just showed up yesterday is is really cool barn-find 49 delahaye yeah I mean how great is that I mean and it's like what it was like 60,000 460 thousand kilometers it was one of the 49 Paris Auto Salon cars that chaperone had on their stands sold new to Morocco yeah it's the real deal so much I mean I don't even know where to start but you did mention that sliding side doors oh yeah yeah that the lodge let's go look at that thing that's just totally crazy yep yeah like I say it's it's almost hard to decide what to focus on there's so much fabulous stuff here but this is a 39 to lodge yes yeah the d8 120 s which is the high-performance t8 120 not just not just a d8 120 well the cool thing about this car well there's so many cool things about it but but it's a centre handled door it's very special yeah very much so very cool car yes that is amazing both sides do that both do that yeah well you know it's also interesting that you know that this is really here just to kind of mask the mechanism exactly yeah you don't want you know you don't see this stuff you know you don't want to get your fingers caught in there yeah that too yes but I mean it's it's just unbelievable I love that it kind of close it yeah go ahead yep just keep going keep going don't stop you're not going right yep Bank fault it is and you know these things look chopped to begin with very low windshield and this is a three-position top so you could have it with the the front end tucked in or to put all the way down and it's just a sexy with it down as it is up but what a - - those are some serious instruments sure yep its standard-issue delage gauges and pretty much the same one they used on della haze as well then you've got you know your light switches and your horns and the kotel control gearbox on the other side of the steering column so very nice car way ahead of its time and you know you can never go wrong with black and silver as a color combination beautiful lines if I mean even you know just the hint of a fin yes hint of an aerodynamic accent there yeah that was a signature of a lot of the French coach works what powers it's a 4.7 liter straight eight about 120 horsepower nice torquey engine and you know the faster you drive these cars that better than likely they hunker down and go let's look at it yeah go ahead mark sure open it up anyway that's a long hood that's a long hood long engine Wow so straight straight a great eight yep 4.7 liter man and you know I love I love the exhaust coming out and down here and what's it it's it's a stainless steel flexible heat shield and they do get hot so if you could have a hold on one of those you can have a nice scar on your hand yeah with the polished intake manifold absolutely beautiful yeah it's all about style all about stuff well you know I'm loving this car but it's really it's it's really the Wausau and the the roles that we came to see so those are our yeah one of our top top cars we take them out if the weather permits I think we can handle that let's go check it out marriage wait [Music] well mark this this is one of the craziest cars I think I've ever seen this is a 31:31 avions Voisin c20 demi berlin my lord on the underslung Simone chassis that's a mouthful right there it's a lot of a lot of terminology for a lot of cars it is a lot of car and it is it is one of the strangest looking cars I've ever seen very over the top for 1931 you know iguana was a real eccentric and design cars his own way if you see one voice on you'll instantly recognize every other one really is this the the traditional hood horn that is the official traditional hood mascot yes-man there's so much you can see up here and you know like I was looking under earlier and I saw the the roller chain the brake system yeah which I thought was maybe suspension to begin with these say that's actually the best the brakes yeah there there are a mechanical brake that's vacuum operated so they've got power mechanical brakes well then you know it's this combination of shapes because it's very you know cylindrical actually right here and you get this you know barrel up here and so then it becomes very square very square you know even voix saans curved lines look straight and you're right I mean the stuff that first glance looks straight is not now mean there's a bow to the top there's a bow to the door but there's such gentle bows did you get the the perception that there's they're flat there's slab yeah it broke all the rooms an MC Escher type car yeah going in common yeah and it's it's solo again she looks like she's chopped very chopped and channeled it's bad and and what a long door in a long oblong you've got a got a big greenhouse and you know even though the windshield is really low and the car looks chopped you've got a really good good view of the highway other than around you of headroom yeah and good visibility and you know that looks like an airplane cockpit very much I mean hearkening back to the days when voir Sanh built airplanes you know you've got a huge array of gauges and all the fuses are right there to change real quick and speaking of right there I mean that's the transmission that is the transmission yeah there is no cover there it's all right out there in the open for you to enjoy just I mean I I love this car for its weirdness I'm almost and I see there's trunks up there on each those are the actual storage trunks and they were designed to be removed this is not the trim this is not the trunk this is the toolkit below that is the fuel tank and below that is the twin batteries Wow and it's a v12 engine v12 and as far as we know it's the last v12 boss on left in the world really yeah let's go look at them here tight clearance right yeah real tight clearance yeah another gorgeous engine oh yeah definitely one in detail really pretty interesting - is it is that a wooden fan that is a wooden prop fouler yeah the fans running off the crank the fans running off the crank that it goes through the shaft to another belt to run the water pump pretty steep v2 it looks like yeah pretty short v12 even though you get a single single spark plug there cylinder you still got two coils running then so again redundancy more airplane right - fails you still got six cylinders to get home it's kind of a gloomy day out in everything Rizzo it's not raining right now this thing has got to look sinister it'll be evil so what's let's let's go go get evil and say I will do foggy morning it's like evil personified [Music] it's a big beasty [Music] [Music] Oh but it's very industrial it's very industrial that's a good word for ya and very precise I mean that you feel that it goes that you feel where that is that's the thing you don't get on today's par you don't feel the gears turning so mark like I said I wanted to focus on a couple of the wildest cars here and the wasps on certainly one and this rolls is probably the other one I've seen pretty wild card I've seen a lot of rolls and people do some wild things body-wise but ain't never seen nothing like this now this is probably the wildest Rolls Royce I've ever created what is the story it's a rolls-royce phantom 3 with a labradoodle body on it okay so this is elaborate bodied car yeah the last lab rat bodied car really yeah the color scheme I think is fabulous and though the two-tone it just it it highlights all these lines and this bumper is I mean it looks dangerous actually you know I strap this car down enough crimes in a trailer you keep doing once in you you don't do it again I'm assuming headlights headlights yeah they they're not anything real trick they just fold down and then they pop into a little receptacle and you're good to go it sure looks better when they're closed yeah but but I love to design put it back up there man so is this is this all molded into the body this comes off the parts on the fenders come off the stuff around the belt line and are on the trunk that's let it in that's so like not come off this here is that's all let it in maintaining this car nightmare and then polishing the brass a nightmare and it's only it's like like signed everything oh yeah yeah I said it's a it's his last car you might as well go out with a bang I guess and what an interesting interior because their colors are even I mean this is like a deep olive almost very dark dark olive olive green metallic or the golden ochre insert and then I imagine this out here is brass but is that in there gold the handles the switches you the exterior door nail the Spirit of Ecstasy that's all gold-plated uh-huh and you know this this kind of pseudo boat tail yeah well you know labra dance started way back when building skiff bodied cars yeah it's like a nod to the boat tail but not truly a boat trail but again I mean the Croesus just so crisp and then the front bumper was something but this really looks dangerous oh yeah that'll definitely feel the skin up if you grab it wrong and it's got the original rolls of you yep yeah there's everything is standard issue standard issues d12 a 7.3 liter oh let's look at that engine sure open her up so sleek and black sleek and black I mean rolls-royce you don't need to look underneath the hood you just you know it's a roll you know it's a rolls-royce you know that they weren't into you know a lot of interior ornamentation where that goes unbelievable well it's you know it's kind of weird day you know miss down the mountain and everything but this would look great rolling down the road sure let's take a phantom in the fog beautiful our rolls are up sparking to spark and throttle [Music] this was a lot torque here and a lot more lower than the balls completely different yeah yeah you know Rolls Royce never gave horsepower figures for roll annoy because they figured it was just vulgar that's so gross so yeah so you know you look at a rolls-royce oh that horse power list it is adequate got enough for you Surrey your yeah we got a cover that's right there's no root beer on this because quite frankly do we care who's behind it [Music] Oh smooth yeah this is truly rolls oh definitely yeah it may not look like a Rolls Royce but it is what it is yes this is unbelievable I want one was it mean really really is boy then I want this one so until our next meeting remember I made the timeless classics I'm Dennis gage happy motoring
