Roku Express Unboxing Setup and Review

hello everyone welcome to another video today we're going to be unboxing and reviewing this roku express a way to upgrade a not smart tv into a smart tv alright so what we have here is the roku express it's gonna be a replacement for uh or it's gonna be very similar to if you have something like an amazon fire stick or even a google chromecast another one you might compare it to would be an apple tv but those are hundreds of dollars and these guys are in the 20 to 30 dollar range so what comes in the box is right here we have a remote our receiver and then a power plug as well as we have cords we have an hdmi cable and our power cable and batteries for the remote batteries are included let's go ahead and take this apart and get her open and go going so remote has a little tag here so if you throw a little keychain on there you can throw your uh samsung galaxy smart tag on there so you'll never lose the remote again right go ahead and check that video out up here up there so i'm actually going to be plugging this in today to my monitor it's not a smart monitor it's just a monitor so well let's see right so one thing that this does come with is at the bottom here we have a sticker and you can actually attach that to the bottom here to then be able to attach it to the bottom of your tv as your receiver for the remote um i don't know that it'll work very well otherwise so we're gonna put that to the test all right so i've attached the sticker on the back of this guy here we're gonna go ahead and pull these caps off our hdmi cable and then on our monitor here i really like it's on that swing arm i can just get right behind it real easy so my monitor does have one extra outlet so we'll just plug this hdmi cord right in there and then we have our hdmi port here we'll plug in here and then we need power so we'll use this guy here this is a micro usb power i think it would be better if you had a usbc i know it doesn't need us what as much power as usb-c can provide but i think it might be better to have a usb-c actual uh port plug that into our little power brick here and plug that into the wall a lot of tvs these days come with a usb port on the back of the tv you can actually just plug this into that rather than using this power brick and another outlet on the wall and then here on my monitor we will switch our input to our roku before we get too far along we'll probably want to put those batteries in the remote and then we hit okay all right after you get it connected to your wi-fi the first thing it's going to want to do is a firmware update okay next i'll ask you for the display type say auto detect full definition 1080p all right use automatic if you have an odd screen type you can adjust that there so one thing i do recommend is getting the roku remote app um this guy is going to make things a lot faster when you're setting this guy up um so when it's asking for emails passwords things like that you can download this app it'll automatically see your device and then you can then control your device from the phone so when typing in an email rather than having to go up down left right to find the button that you need you can just type it in with your keyboard on your phone the next thing your roku device is going to do is it's going to send you an email after you set up an account or link to your account if you already had it and to tell it what you want to have on here so looks like we're all done setting up all of the apps that we want let's get you streaming all right so while it's running through this uh tutorial of the roku one thing i did notice first off is that the sound was really loud on my monitor because the volume was all the way up on the monitor and it's a monitor not a tv it doesn't have a remote well um my tv is a roku tv and it has a roku remote with a volume switch on it and i wish this came with a volume switch that would have been a really nice feature if they could have gotten this in there but as you can see here we have our things so we can go through and find everything let's go ahead and load up youtube and start finding a video we can even sign into our account if we say use mobile device it'll ask us how we want to sign in so then we can choose which one we want to use and boom here we are ready to watch videos let's see here come into our library my videos look at that and now we are watching tv look at that so there you go we got me playing on the tv right there using our roku express one thing i did test out so it doesn't actually have to be facing the remote it does have best control when you do do that but if you have it just kind of dangling behind the tv because this hdmi cable isn't long enough i have it hidden behind the tv and we can see here i can jump forward and back you can see i'm now navigating through the menus on here with this behind the monitor granted if i completely cover this it does not work so this adhesive would be great if you just stick it to the bottom of your tv it blends in just like a regular uh remote receiver where mine is gonna be mobile i'm not gonna actually stick it to anything right now but that is gonna be in another video uh this is the roku express let's go ahead and check out all of the details on it real quick and you know what i just noticed we didn't even look at our user guide this thing is so simple to set up you don't need a user guide you can have you have it they'll explain it for you they'll do all the hard work if you're struggling with that but honestly the setup on this is so easy that you don't need the menu let's go ahead and jump over to amazon and take a look at this thing all right so we have our roku express right here as you can see um right now it is 22.47 but let's go ahead and jump over to honey and check out our price history um jumping down here we can see that right now it is 22.47 but it has been as low as 17 so if you really need to pinch those pennies you want to get it on a steal of a deal 17 is the best price that we've seen in the past 120 days but the average price it seems to be pretty close to 24.99 it does peak out at 29.99 that is the high price if you see it at that maybe hold off there are deals you can see quite often of the price dropping down for you so just keep an eye out for those and then an average good deal 19 steel of a deal 17 but right now not bad at 22.74 um that is still cheaper than the average on this guy look at that average at 24.99 24.99 and then high price of 29.99 if you want to get this roku express for yourself go ahead and use
