today I'm going to show you a complete beginner's guide of the Roku Express 4K plus starting with an initial unboxing and then the setup process I'm going to show you some of my favorite tips tricks and hidden features allowing you to leave this video as a Roku Express 4K plus expert let's get started so on the front here you can see you've got the packaging the remote and the physical Roku here some of the TV apps that are on the Roku device and on the back an incredible picture with exceptional value let's go ahead and open this up and see what we have on the inside so you can see there's a sticker there we can go ahead and rip that off just like this and open up the box on the inside here we've got some plastic and I slice out just like that we've got some more additional paperwork and cables in the box so I've got a ton of material here in the box that we can check out let's start with the physical device so it comes with the remote we'll take an in-depth look of the remote in a moment and then we've got the actual Roku device right here it looks just like this and point the remote here so I've got some tips there to get started and then we've got the power adapter so we can pull that out we'll need to power our Roku device at some point it's got a USB connection right there so that's all that's in the plastic there it also comes with some strips there so we'll pull that out and now it says have you heard where Roku does audio too so they have speakers additional options there that you can purchase we just have the 4K Streaming Stick the Roku Express 4K plus right here now we've got the quick start guide that we can open up and learn additional information just to get started with our Roku device so we'll go ahead and rip that open and see what's on the inside here we've got some Roku stickers some nice white stickers there I love Roku and Roku we can attach that anywhere we'd like then we've got some regulatory paperwork we'll put that off to the side and then the quick start guide here and it folds out just like this and gives you a complete detail of what's included how to get started connect the power and follow the on-screen setup process everything that we'll do right here in this video to help you get started so we'll go ahead and fold this back up and then we'll take a look at the connections and cables that are in this box right here so we'll slide those out we've got a USB cable we'll open this up just like that and comes out with that so on one end we put the USB a cable into the power adapter just like this and then on the other end we have a micro USB cable and we plug that in right here into the Roku and this allows us to power the Roku device uh we'll plug this in into the AC low wall adapter and then this plugs into the Roku just like that to give it power and then it also comes with an HDMI cable we'll take a deeper look at HDMI ports on the back of our TV in a moment but these are super important it's what transmits your audio and your video you'll take the end caps off just like this and we'll take this HDMI cable and plug it up to the very back of the Roku just like this goes in like that and this other end will go into the TV so now we've got a Roku completely unboxed we can go ahead and take all of the materials away here and take a look at what we have so we've got the power adapter the power cord that plugs into the back of the Roku the Roku itself an HDMI cable in the remote we can slide this out and let's go ahead and push this on the back here a little pull this out to activate our remote and just like that our remote is activated then we'll slide it back in so we've got our remote the Roku device itself with the power cables and the HDMI cables and that is the unboxing you can see the green light there is loading there for the remote that means it's currently the batteries are working and looking for Roku so we'll go ahead and move over to the TV section and see how we connect this to our television and then power it up and look at the setup process so let's go ahead and do that right now now let's take a look at the back of our television on the back you'll notice ports that allow you to plug in to the Roku device that you have you're looking for an HDMI connection Port now you may have one or two maybe more than two ports and you'll plug your Roku connection cable from the HDMI connector into the back of your TV so you'll search for that HDMI port and plug it right into the back just like this so that Port again looks like this and then you'll plug this into the very back of your television so there's one connection on the very back of the Roku where the end of the cable connects and then you plug that into the available HDMI port onto your television you may have another device that's currently plugged up that you may need to remove in order to plug up the Roku but you're looking for the HDMI connection that looks just like this on the back of the television and once you've found it you're able to plug up your Roku successfully and turn your television on so we'll go ahead and plug up the HDMI connection it's connected to the Roku itself and then it's connected to the back of the television itself next up you will want to plug up your Roku into the power of connection so you will need a power adapter power source nearby you'll plug in your Roku just like that and this will give it power so those are the first two steps that you need to complete in order to get your Roku set up successfully you'll need to find Power by plugging in the USB cable and the connection all the way to the Roku itself on the back and then you'll also need to find the HDMI port on the back of your television and plug it in properly so we've got the HDMI connection on the television connected and then the HDMI connection on the back of the Roku and then we've got it plugged into the power so now we'll go ahead and turn our television around and power up the television and power up the Roku itself and it gives you a little pointer there to point the remote right there and another cool pointer that you'll want to know is you'll want to read the text on the back of the television and see which Port you've plugged your Roku in it may say HDMI port 1 Port 2 Port 3 to Port four depending on how many HDMI ports you have you'll want to remember which Port you plug your HDMI connection cable into that way when you turn on your television you know exactly where to go so if I zoom in here I can see that this is plugged into HDMI port number two I'll remember that so when I turn on the television I'll make sure that HDMI Channel 2 is current currently on so I can see the contents that's on the Roku so let's go ahead and turn around this television and power it up and get it started here with the initial setup process of the Roku so we've got our Roku set up right here we've plugged in the power adapter into the wall you can see the blinking light right here in this guide here that says point the remote here to get started let's go ahead and use our television remote first and turn on our TV so we just press the power button to our TV and our TV boots up and we get started with seeing the content that's on the Roku system so here we've got the Samsung Smart TV logo it pops open and it loads the television and now that the TV is loaded we're going to need to press the source button on our television remote to get access to the channel that's on the back of the television so earlier when we plugged in the Roku we remembered that this was plugged into HDMI port 2. we're gonna have to press the source button on our remote to get access to HDMI port 2. so we'll go ahead and press source and then it will slide over when we continue pressing source to HDMI port 2 and then now we can see the contents of the setup process for this Roku Express so now it wants us to pair the remote so it's giving us a little tutorial on how to pair the remote well take a look at the back of the remote it wants us to open that up and we remove the section of it previously and now it wants us to press these buttons for five seconds so we press the back button and the home button for five seconds until the green light comes up and we'll see what happens so we'll go ahead one two three four five and it's pairing here pairing remote so we want to always Point our remote to the top of the Roku section of the very blinking light that you see here and now our remote is connected I'm going to go ahead and peel this strip off right here where it says Point remote here so we'll go ahead and remove the strip just like that we've got the blinking infrared light to let us know that the Roku is on and just like that let's take a tour of our remote itself so this is what the remote looks like for the Roku at the very top you have the power button this turns off and on your device you've got the back button you've got the home button and then a d-pad that allows you to select content on the screen just like that and then the okay it's like an inner button to select content it's got the restart button you've got the voice control button and asterisk or a wine a pause and play fast forward and then you've got your content apps right here at the very bottom you've got Netflix this instantly opens Netflix this instantly opens Disney plus this instantly opens Apple TV plus and this instantly opens Paramount plus so you've got your various different content providers at the very bottom here and then of course it just has a little Roku tab at the very bottom so this is what your Roku remote looks like and of course on the side you've got a mute button that you can instantly mute the television you can volume up or volume down just right here on the side of the Roku remote so that's a tour of your Roku remote let's go ahead and get this set up so the first thing it asks us after we've paired our mode is to select our language so we'll go ahead let's get started you can scroll down you can pick a different language if you want we'll select English and then we'll just hit the OK button just like this to get started it's doing a wireless scan is looking for wireless networks and what this does is allows your Roku to connect to the Internet so you'll need to select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password in order for the Roku to have access to look up content from streaming platforms so we'll go ahead and do this off camera we'll select our Wi-Fi network and enter the password and we'll be right back so once you've successfully can enter the password for your Wi-Fi network it will check the wireless connection it'll connect to it and then you'll be able to access and proceed with the setup process so we've got an internet connection now it says that an update is available for our Roku player we'll get the latest software once the update is installed it will restart automatically so we can use the pad to select OK and just go ahead and let the update process so your Roku player will automatically restart once the update is installed you get a little progress bar it's going extremely fast it's already at 100 and here it is restarting the Roku for us so after this booth pack up we'll be be updated to our latest software on the Roku and we'll be able to access all of our favorite streaming platforms like Netflix Disney plus Apple TV and Paramount plus and of course Roku pops open like here you've got the little intro screen with the Roku letters bouncing around and looks great so that's a really fast update it restarted immediately and now it's connecting it says this may take a minute it has a little please wait loading screen and here we are where your Roku device is updated to the latest software version so we'll go ahead and hit continue and your Roku remote can control the power and volume of your TV so this is cool when you press the power button it will turn off your television and when you press the volume buttons up and down on the remote it will allow you to change the audio of the television so we'll go ahead and set this up we'll hit continue and now it wants to confirm your television bread and confirm you want to set up your Roku remote to control the power and volume on your Samsung brand TV you just say yes I have a Samsung brand if you don't you can scroll down to change that brand using the d-pad but we have a Samsung TV here so we'll press the OK button in the center and it's music playing so music is playing please Point your Roku remote at this TV and yes music is playing do you still hear the music remember to point your Roku the TV yes we still hear the music remember so we keep saying yes we still hear the music remember to point your Roku at the TV [Music] all right so it just muted the TV and now we can select no so remember to point your Roku remote at the TV it automatically muted it so we had to go through several modes there of allowing you know seeing if the television music was playing so to do that successfully first we had to turn up the television remote using return the audio of the television on this TV using the remote itself because it was lowered and then it went through a series of checks as we used the d-pad here to detect whether music was playing or not and we're selecting yes because music was still playing as we kept going through those processes and then eventually when the remote muted the television music we're able to select the no option that music was not being played and it remembered that uh we're on TV code five and that allowed us to mute the music now it remembers that when we use the volume button and the power button on this remote that it will automatically use those controls for the TV2 in addition to the Roku so success your Roku remote is set up to control this TV's power and volume remember to point your remote at this TV and then we'll go ahead and hit OK to continue so we'll go ahead and do that you can activate your Roku player enter your email address to get a Roku activation link and start streaming and we'll go ahead and enter our address here so I can scroll down and type in my name so in order to access your Roku you will need to activate it it sends a link to your email you type in your email address and then you can access your email and open up the activation link so we'll go ahead and pull up the Roku email right here it allows us to activate our device so we just press the activate device button and it opens up the Roku device so now we'll have to fill out this information to create a Roku account so let's go ahead and do that really quick so we'll type in our name alright so we've entered all of this information here to activate our Roku account we'll hit the continue button and it will ask us for a pin so t-shirt pin preferences setting a personal identification number and preference allows select that it's in the living room and then you'll need to agree and read the Roku products terms of use then we can hit the continue button and see what else they have to offer for us so we'll go mobile app just like that and we've got it set up on our account we can go back to the setup complete screen where we can go to the account we can scroll down and learn more some tips and tricks from Roku and then Apple AirPlay so we'll go to my account and we'll take a look at what's on the TV screen itself here so it says all done enhance your streaming experience with the Roku mobile app you can get it on the Android play store the Google Play store or the app store for Apple so now we'll go ahead and take the Roku remote and we'll go ahead and hit the next button and see what's next and now we're presented with our Roku home screen so here on the left we've got it says home and then all of our channels we've got Netflix Prime Hulu Paramount plus Max Disney plus the Roku channel the live TV we can scroll over and check out the live channel guide and it will show us some examples of content that we can watch instantly for free right here on live television so I'm going to go ahead and press the mute button that way um we won't hear any audio from the content but we'll be able to check out some of the world news here or some of the different channels that they have on the free section for live television so we can press the back button right here to go back to our guide and we'll click live TV channel guide and it will roll up with you know what's on right now so Nightly News weather we can keep scrolling down we've got some shows on and it makes it really nice to come in here and to be able to check out you know free television right here on your Roku device you're just using the d-pad to scroll down and find a selection that you want to watch and then you just press the enter button here to watch it so you press press the OK button which is like the enter button and it allows you to start watching it so it looks like a breaking progress there so we can go hit the back button and see what other options are for the live guide so what I've got is one way to watch content on your Roku device we can come in here and see um the Great American baking show press the OK button on that and start watching that content right here so they've got tons of channels here on the Roku for the live guide it looks like right here press the left button for the guide so we just press this left button right here and the guide instantly comes back up rather than having to press the restart of the back button so the left button brings up the guide just like that and we can select another show and we can scroll down let's see we can click on this one right here and it loads instantly so it gives you a little preview at the bottom what show it is how much time is watching the TV ratings and a little description of that so you can press the up and down button for the channel right here so if we flip up it'll go to the next Channel and it'll load this television show just like that so it's on channel 294 we can press the up button again to go to the next channel to 295 and it makes it really easy to flip through television channels all for free right here on your Roku device all you have to do is just press the up button we can keep pressing it and it will keep going to new channels and now it's allowing us to press the star button right here the asterisk on the side to get additional options so we do that and we can see on the left side on the left side here we have closed captioning volume mode manage channels accessibility and captions closed captioning and more so we can come here for the asterisk or the star button and see all the different settings that we can do within this current channel so we can go over to let's start off with closed captioning on replay we can turn off we can turn off closed captioning or we can say on always I like closed captioning we can just turn it on always we can go to volume mode it's off we can say whether we want it leveling it Smooths out the highs and lows or if we want night volume which sits a maximum threshold for high sounds so you come here switch over the volume mode and again we're just using the d-pad here to go up and down and we'll hit the back button just like that so you can have various different options here in the settings we can manage the channels we have favorite channels lined up so we can select you know if we have a favorite Channel we can click on it and it will go to our favorites or we can hit the back button just like that to edit the channel line up and show and hide different channels that we don't necessarily want in our guide so tons of options there when you hit the star button right here on the remote that you can get access to when you're looking at the live guide for free television content and of course we can review those settings where you use the d-pad up and down to change the channel so we're on channel 315 we can go down to 314 just like that we can press this left button on the side to get access to our guide and then we can go back to our television and press the star button to get access to additional options on the settings so let's go back to our home setting here and see what else there is to offer on Roku so Roku has home we've taken a look at some of the channels right here we'll take a deeper look into some of those channels later on but we've got live TV which we just took a look at which allows us to use the channel up and down in the live guide they've got a section called what to watch which allows recommendations for TVs movie TV shows movies and more so we can come in here and see what's recommended on 2B we can scroll over on the Roku Channel The Chosen is recommended terrifier is recommended Next Level Chef is recommended they have a ton of options here that we can come in here and check out and just click on and learn more so we can watch this for free in HD on the Roku Channel but we'll of course have to set that up by pressing the OK button and logging into the Roku Channel you're home for free in premium television content so we just press the OK button on that and it automatically sets us up and takes us directly into the application so that's simple to get set up with and we can start watching but we'll go ahead and pause this for now and we'll head back to our home section to check out what are the options we have so that's the what to watch section they have featured free so on featured free you can come in here and see free content and that's the best part you don't have to pay for a subscription or an app you can come in here you've got Roku original you've got from you've got you've got some wrestling so tons of different shows that you can come in here and check out completely for free using the d-pad under Roku and just click on it and watch for free in HD just like that so we can pull up Jumanji and it instantly loads and you can start watching this completely for free so let's take a look at what this player looks like when you start watching a movie what does it look like when you're watching that TV show that movie or that content so we'll go ahead and hit the pause button and we'll see that we have a few options we cut the captions and audio track we can skim you can press this right button here to start fast forwarding a little bit you can see it goes in increments of 10 seconds so if we press with the right it skips 10 seconds every time we press the right d-pad button and we can press the left d-pad button to go 10 seconds previously so that's a cool feature that we have you just press the ok to get started to go exactly to that section we can press the pause button and see what else we have we've got captions in the audio track that we can click on and see the additional options that we have so closed captioning is on always we can come down here for captioning track we can click on it it's in English right now we can come down to audio track only the default audio tracks available so there are no additional options for this we've got the screen reader where screen reader speaks on-screen items so we can turn that off and on we'll keep it off for now we've got the speech rate where it shows the speech rate of that screen reader that's reading items that's currently on the screen then we can hit the back button here we've got screen reader volume screen reader shortcut and those are the options that sensibility and caption options that we have and we get them just by pausing the show and scrolling up on the d-pad and selecting captions in the auto track just right there so that's what it looks like when we watch a television show or movie and we want to see additional options like subtitles or different audio tracks or different options for our screen reader that's reading out content that's on the screen all you have to do there is go up to captions and audio track to select it another cool feature though is the star button it brings those options immediately so any kind content that you are so you can enable closed caption closed captioning or volume mode just like that so that's a quick preview there of what it looks like to check out the player mode and other options here now just by pressing the back button it goes back to the Roku channel the content that we're watching we can scroll down we can immediately resume it we can play it from the beginning or we can see viewing options we can add it to a saved list so remember to check it out later let's do that we'll add to a save list you can check out the captions and audio tracks just like we were looking at previously and then we can say what are some more shows like this we can click on more shows like this and instantly look at tons of other options like the Karate Kid Part 3 we can click on that and play that right here on the Roku Channel just like this so one play immediately pops it open and you can start watching it immediately has a little description a little rating and the time of our remote and head right back over to the home screen and take a look at what other features we have so we've taken a look at home we've taken a look at live television what to watch and featured free they have an option for sports lovers so you can see here the Miami Heat at the Boston Celtics is currently going on live right now and we can check out the details of that we can scroll over to MLB if you're a baseball fan check out some content from there we've got the fubo sports network you've got on now and it shows you all the content this is just a really neat place if you're a really big fan in the sports you can click on it and get access to content immediately so we can click on this live Miami Heat at Boston Celtics game in it it's going to say it requires a subscription so you'll need to sign in with your TNT cable network subscription credentials or if you have DirecTV stream or sling no matter what you know however you set up your cable network you'll have to log in to watch these sports channels they're not included for free you'll need the subscription platform of a cable network to watch them so that's what it looks like when you head over to one of those if we go to the MLB section we can hit play this is on the Roku Channel it doesn't look like it's requiring a subscription because it's on The Rook Channel completely for free and then streaming so cool feature there so some sports you will be able to watch completely for free some you'll need a cable subscription for just depends on you know who your favorite teams are and how the licensing deals are but we can hit the back button right here and go right back to the sports section and check out all the different sports that are on now that we can watch instantly if we have a subscription or we can see free sports on the Roku Channel just like this without needing a subscription so they've got the NBA Playoff games they've got soccer matches they've got a ton of different options here upcoming events golf tournaments NHL playoff games no matter what sports fan you are you'll want to check out the Roku Sports channel section here to check out when your favorite sports are being aired and to watch them instantly on your Roku device let's take a look at some of the free sports if we go to the football sports network it opens up the Roku Channel and we can take a look right now we've got Glory Kickboxing and we can take a look it gives us a little description it rates it it tells us what channel it's on if we hit this pause button here live TV pause is not available so you can't rewind there's no DVR there's no fast forward you just get straight live content when you're on the Roku channel for live television so this is what it looks like and we can hit the start button to see our options the start button of course right here on the remote you just press that and our options pop open you can turn off and on captions closed captioning always on there immediately disappears after a few seconds but we can press it one more time to make it pop open right again I've got volume mode and channels so we get very similar options here that we saw previously but again this is a free sports channel football sports and no subscription required but again you don't really get an option to rewind pause play there's no DVR functionality on this section of live television so here this has been a lookout and review here of the Roku sports section where you can see tons of different sports options let's go back and hit the home button and see what else we have here on the Roku device so we're going to scroll down we've taken a look at these options here we've taken a look at home live TV what to watch featured free and sports let's take a look at the buzz so let me scroll down to the buzz and it allows us to see what's trending so we've got different apps here Voodoo it looks like Dungeons and dragon is now available to buy our rent that's buzzing we can come over here and see Chicken Soup for the Soul what's new on 2B Spark TV and a ton of options of what is currently trending under the buzz we can scroll down here and see free in from your subscriptions so this is really cool I can come down here and select this just by pressing the OK button and we've got the spotlight the young Rock and I can scroll over using the d-pad here and I can save this I can like it let's go ahead and like it and add that to our liked account I can follow for more content like this but let's go ahead and watch now and it'll instantly load up this free content right here on the Roku Google platform so it looks like I can see season one Season Two Season three all I have to do is just come over here and select which channel I want it on we'll watch it in the Roku Channel but there's various channels that I can check it on and just like this I can instantly watch that content that I saw so NBC presents it starts loading um so we'll go ahead and hit the pause button on this but it instantly opens up season one episode one next up they have the search section so you can come here scroll down and search for content on the left side you can type in what you're looking for and if you scroll over to the right side they have popular movies popular TV shows popular free movies and you can come in and select what you like and what you don't like so we can come in here and scroll up see the first option that we have is popular movies the Super Mario Bros movie you can click on it we can rent it so you can access it from different sources here you've got Prime Video in the middle Apple TV and a few others now you can hit the back button to go back to the search option here and we can type in you know one of our movies that we want to watch or just type it in just like this and I select all the characters and search for it and we can see what pops up TVs and movies just like this we can click on that option it allows us to buy this from a Prime video or Redbox Apple TV any option that you see here you're able to purchase it and you enter the credentials in for that platform and you're able to watch it successfully so that's the search section we can come back here to our search panel and search for another option here we can type in Star put an R there and then the space bars at the very bottom and we're just using the d-pad here on the remote to type in all of the different letters so we scroll over I'm typing in Star Wars and we type in R and then we type in s and it you can see some results have already populated here we've got different movies for Star Wars you can see all the different Star Wars movies we can click on one and instantly check it out so it offers a subscription for Disney plus TNT TBS batch drum sling True TV you can see you can watch it in six of 11 different providers here you can pick which one you'd like the best gives a little description of it a rating and then some additional details so you can even press the star button right here and it will provide more details like a description of what the show or the movie or the content that you're looking at is about so we can hit the OK button here and one of my favorite things is when we hit the back button and we go back to the top section of our search panel when we remove all the results it remembers things that you searched for it has this really neat section right here that says recent search selections and you're able to come in here and see what you search for so earlier we searched for rent now we just search for Star Wars and they instantly pop up in our instant you know recent search selections so we can instantly get back to what we search for and of course they've got the popular movies the popular TV shows the popular free movies TV shows you can check out SpongeBob's popular free kid movies and TV shows just press the OK button and wow they've got a lot of seasons of SpongeBob SquarePants and of course it requires a subscription Paramount plus Spectrum Apple TV or more so you can check those things out just like that we can hit the back button and we're going to hit the home button and take a look at our last option at the very bottom which has our streaming store so here we can come in here and shop for apps different channels different TV platforms they've got a navigation where you can search for that channel that you're looking for you can take a look at all the apps you can take a look at movies just use the d-pad to move around here they've got different games let's take a look at the apps first so we'll go ahead and select apps they've got featured apps like TNT watch free flicks yes Crunchyroll news Red Box CNN and we can come down here if we see an app that we like like Discovery plus we can just tap on it with the OK section we just use the remote to hit OK and then we can go to channel we can see that we have this channel installed already we can remove it or we can go to it immediately let's take a look at our channel that we don't have just by pressing the back button and then scrolling up with let's see TNT we don't have TNT as an app we can select it and all we have to do to add that app to our screen is just press the add Channel button and we can press the OK button right here to add the channel and then it adds TNT watch TNT to our Roku just like that so Channel added watch TNT has been added to the end of home and now to move it highlight it and press start so let's take a look at what that looks like we can press the home button right here to go home so we press it it takes us immediately back to home we can scroll over hitting the right d-pad down and at the very bottom is TNT if we want to move it to the very top we just press the star button and now we can say it gives us a ton of options we can rate the application we can move the channel we can remove it check for updates or get feedback so let's go ahead and move the channel and just like this it allows us to move up and down and we can move it to the very top now and press the OK button and just using the d-pad after pressing the star button and scrolling over to move Channel and pressing OK it allows us to move the channel to wherever we want so you'll want all of your quick access channels that you use frequently to be at the very top and just like that we've got TNT at the very top of the section here rather than at the very bottom if we open up TNT most likely it'll have us authenticate and log in with our cable provider credentials so we don't have full access to this it's not available in our current location so oops so we can go back to the home and see what other apps are available for us just by scrolling down to the streaming store and see what's available so they've got sling we can take a look at live television you tap on that we can add the channel just like this and it will add this to our home screen it does this very quickly very fast we're already at 16 25 30 and this allows us to watch live sports news it's a paid subscription service that you'll have to subscribe to but it will add it to our Channel successfully so we'll hit the home button and now we scroll over and scroll all the way down and sling is here and we can press the OK button to access it now we can't log into this because we don't have a paid subscription sling but that's an example how you download an app and they allow you to try the sling service ten dollars off your first month if you're interested you can go ahead and do that now they do have a free section at the very bottom it says free live TV and thousands of on-demand movies no credit card required I'm curious if it makes you go through a sign up process so I'm going to use the d-pad here to scroll down to the very bottom and go to stream free click on that and press the OK button now string free stream always free TV is very similar to the live TV you saw on the Roku Network and this allows us to browse while streaming so now you can browse while watching your favorites shows and movies will seamlessly follow you around when you exit the screen you can change this Anytime by selecting settings and looking the under the device settings so let's go ahead and click ok now we can take a look here at CPS reports South Park Honey Boo Boo Forensic Files let's go ahead and click on Forensic Files we'll press the OK button and instantly start checking out some content so we can press up for guide and down to browse more channels so let's go ahead and see what the guide looks like first we just press up in our free TV content goes to the very bottom in the sling app and we can start scrolling and watch more free content and see what they have on the show so we can go scroll down here they've got various different shows let's see what we have here let's go ahead um they've got a lot of crime dramas and a lot of interesting shows here that we can check out so all you have to do is you can select any show here just by scrolling down and selecting it so we'll go to Paranormal Survivor and then press the OK button and it will instantly take us to that channel and here we are in Sling watching free content completely for free we don't have the pace of search and service but let's see what our options are for free content when we press pause we can see the time we can see the title of the episode we can go down to recent channels we can go down to sports all channels and more details of this episode in settings so it has tons of different options here that you can select and we can go ahead and hit the back button and hit the back button and see the guide of what else is available so this is very interesting because we've got multiple options to watch free content and we can come in here and check out the sling app and all we had to do was go to the App Store the streaming apps section of the Roku if we hit home it takes us very back to the home screen here where we got all of our different options and the streaming stores where we found sling so you scroll down to the sling streaming store you hit the arrow right over to move over to those apps and you can find various different apps here to download we can download the CW just like this by tapping on it and adding that channel so it's really cool that you can add they've got hundreds of different streaming apps different channels that you can add and it adds it to your Roku home screen where you can view that kind of content now we can press the go to channel button immediately and it will take us to it without having to go home first and that's really helpful if you want to dive right into the CW content check out today's sponsor racketon where you can get a 30 bonus today when you sign up using the link in the description at find.org racketon you can shop at your favorite stores with over 3 500 stores to check out and you install the plugin create an account on Rakuten and earn cash back today it's really cool that you can come here and get paid to shop and of course you can earn your 30 bonus today using the link in the description this helps out the app find channel a lot so check out today's sponsor rackington using the link app find.org racketon and of course you'll have to agree to the terms of service so you also scroll down to the bottom here and then agree so it loads up the content and now you can check out the Flash and various other shows so you can come over to shows Riverdale continue watching different trending shows All-American they've got tons of content here that we can immediately check out um and watch so it's really cool but we can click on this and see what it offers us here so it looks like it uses advertisements as its form of payment so it shows various ads that way you don't have to sign in with the membership and that's a clever way of marketing that way you know they still are able to generate Revenue but you have to watch three ads here in order to watch this kind of content so that's really cool I can come in here and see what else they have here they've got other trending shows I can scroll down Dark Matter Lost Girl Gotham Knights so tons of content here whether it's paid or provided with advertisements you can just check it out each app is different but the CW app really collab we can go to the home screen just by pressing the home button and it takes us to the home screen and the CW app will be at the very bottom of our channels that we've installed because that's the last one that we made so they've got shortcuts where we can add different channels here we can scroll down to that tap on that and see what other apps we have so it takes us directly to the streaming store rather than having to scroll through it by pressing home and then going down to the streaming store either way you can get access to the streaming store and add additional apps to your Roku Crunchyroll friendly and interesting spelling CNN Redbox so many different apps so many different channels that you can add and enhance your Roku experience so now let's take a look at the last option here on the Roku menu which is settings we scroll down to settings and we have a ton of settings here that allows us to change the setup of our Roku so first off is Network we can come in here and check the connection of our Network we can set up a new connection we can check our IP address make sure everything's fine going on with the wireless connection settings we can scroll down for remotes and devices we'll take a look at this in a second because remote synd devices are cool and we downloaded the Roku app earlier so we'll see what that looks like you can change the theme you can come in here we've got the default purple theme but they've got a ton of popular theme packs that you can come in here and change the theme of your Roku I love green reminds me of nature we can get the steam pack just by selecting the get theme pack button it gets the jungle theme pack and it starts to install it 100 here it's adding this jungle wallpaper and we're just using the arrows here left and right to navigate things in the settings so that's how we're able to find this different theme Here now we can set that theme pack just like this and it changes the theme pack and now when we go back we will have more of a Green Jungle theme as you can see in the top there as we scroll around so really cool setting there that we can create we can scroll down to display type so it lets us know right now it's an automatic 1080p we can switch to manual settings if you have a higher quality TV like a 4K television you can select what kind of 4K you want whether you want to use HDR which stands for high dynamic range it enhances the color quality a little bit or the 4K normal TV or if you just want to switch down to 1080p which is not as good as 4K it's in the middle it's still high quality high definition and then you've got 720p so you can change the display type depending on what TV you have and what works best for you they've got different accessibility options we saw a lot of these options when we press the star button while we were watching something so we can come in here and see there's captions mode captions preferred language the caption style their color their size the opacity this is one of the most detailed lists of accessibility options that I've ever seen on a streaming device that allows you to change the background color the background opacity that's really impressive for you to be able to come in here and change the detail of how captions look like they can be a different color to fall white black red so depending on what you know accessibility requirements you need you can come in here to the Roku settings and adapt to them to your needs and that's really cool that Roku has developed this entire accessibility panel to come in here they also have a really great screen reader that you can turn on adjust the screen rate the volume and have a shortcut for that to turn it on to enable the screen reader shortcut if enabled you can toggle the screen reader on or off by pressing the star button on the remote for consecutive times quickly so that's really neat they've got caption modes captions preferred language and more content here so that's the accessibility option we can hit the back button right here to go back and see what other settings options we have we've got audio settings where we can come in here to the mini volume the audio preferred language the preferred streaming platform the digital output format they've got tons of settings here that we can come in here and modify for the audio they've got a guest mode so guests can enjoy their own subscriptions on the Roku device rather than you know accidentally purchasing something on your account so if you have guest mode that you can enable that way if you have friends or family that come over and they want to use their own subscriptions versus yours it's a little bit better you can come down to the home screen you can see which options you want to show and which things you don't want to show so they've got a few options here that you can hide if you don't want to see the live television you can slide over using the Roku remote and scrolling down and say hide and it will take off live TV from your screen same here with what to watch you can scroll over and hide that if you don't want to watch if you don't want to see that option same with featured free sports the buzz and shortcuts you can come over here and turn off those shortcuts add channels or TV off button that are on the home screen and all the different sections that we reviewed today that are on homes screen if you're not a big fan of the sports you can scroll down the sports scroll over and say hide just like that so really simple to you know come in here and modify the home screen to your liking you can come down here update the payment method and you can also update this on roku.com Apple AirPlay and home kit you can stream from your Apple devices you'll be redirected to set up Apple play Apple airplane home kit on your Apple devices so you just press this button right here and it starts to download that process for airplay and and instantly loads up AirPlay here and we can see what this setup process looks like so right now AirPlay is on it does not it requires the code for the first time it has subtitles and captioning about AirPlay and I can set up home kit so super fun to come in here and set up those settings so you can press the back button and go back they've got legal notices they've got privacy they've got help and then system so we can update some of the system settings and come over here see about our ZIP code the time control other devices language screen mirroring software updates and more so that's been a overview there of the settings let's go ahead and check out what it looks like to open up the iPhone application on our iPhone so we downloaded that earlier we'll go ahead and open Roku on our iPhone and it will like to find we'll hit allow it's going to find the Roku on our device and it says welcome to with the Roku mobile app we'll go ahead and hit continue we can find save and watch our favorites and then we can come in here control Roku devices using the phone use your phone as a remote and then we'll hit next and then we'll keep you posted turn on notifications get offers updates new shows to stream it more so we'll go ahead and allow notifications and then it wants to know if we'll personalize ads and then we'll sign in to our Roku account so I'll go ahead and do that off camera and get us set up so now I've signed into the Roku app on my iPhone it says good evening and happy streaming so I can come here and watch on TV and I can connect to a device right here to launch apps so let's connect your Roku to control your devices you must allow local network access this will only be used to connect with Roku devices on your local area network so we've got our Roku connected to Wi-Fi we'll go ahead and hit the Connect Now button and see what it looks like to connect our Roku so it searches for the device and let's connect your Roku all your Roku devices will be shown here for easy access and just like that our Roku Express 4K pops up instantly we can tap on it to get it set up so now it's connected and we have a ton of options in the device section but before we go over devices let's take a look at the very bottom here we've got the home section that we can tap on home and that's where we were when we first opened the application we can watch these apps on our TV we can scroll down continue watching it knows that we're watching The Young rock or alone we can keep scrolling down here and see other sports other featured shows on the Roku Channel we can come over to the second tab the Roku Channel and see all the different shows that they have on the Roku channel from the live television that we looked at earlier the featured shows and we're going to scroll down and see all those and then my favorite option here is the remote now we just press the remote button at the very bottom and a replica of the remote pops open so we can use this to navigate things that are on a Roku and one of the features that I'm really proud to demo is the voice control so on each remote there is a voice button right over here in the middle you can use this you hold down the voice open oops let's try this again open sling so you just hold down and you speak and it instantly opens up whatever you tell or if you want to know you know certain details one of my favorite features of the remote option so of course you can do that whether you have the physical remote or if you have the app Remote we can just press this button right here it'll give access to our microphone open TNT and then results for open TNT we've got TNT and HD or TNT regular so we'll go ahead and hit OK for the first one and just like that it opens up content so really cool that you can use the remote button and another cool feature that you have is if we hit the home button and go over to search we've got a full-fledged keyboard so we can enter search and now a real keyboard pops open because we're on our mobile device and we can come in here and type in we can come in here and type in a word on the mobile keyboard hit done and it instantly pops open on our Roku much easier than using the keypad here so really fun way to come in here and check out new content now I can use the Roku remote to slot over just like this so really cool that I can come in here and select and watch new content just like that we can hit the OK button the same way we do on the remote and they have tons of features in here for us to check out so this requires a subscription and we can go ahead and hit the home button so let's take a tour of this remote options are a little bit different but they look pretty much almost the same though it's almost a replica you've got the search option right here that you can tap and instantly search for Content new previews show up right here music 4K more uh we've got the voice icon that we just demoed right now we've got the keyboard icon that we just demoed right now we've got settings so we can come in here we can say the remote type whether we want a traditional or swipe we can switch over to swipe and it takes away the d-pad so now we just swipe around to get access to things a bit different I think I like the traditional a little bit better so we'll go back and switch over to that now we can go back and see what other settings we have private listening streams audio through your mobile device haptic feedback enables haptic feedback on the remote when you press buttons and then you can switch the device if you have more than one Roku device so you can say lost your remote and that brings up options to get set up and purchase a new remote you can adjust the audio delay so those are the settings that we have and then here we've got the back button at the top the home button the d-pad where we can select different things on the screen with the OK button to select and enter we've got the restart button the star button for additional options the audio button here private listening activated so this turns on audio where it comes through your phone we'll go ahead and disable that then you've got the rewind fast forward and play and pause button so just like that we've got remote we've got different apps that we can instantly open we can open up Prime video just by tapping it and it instantly opens up that app just like on the very bottom of this remote we have different buttons that we can open we can open up Disney plus just press the Disney plus button now it does have to download Disney plus but that was pretty fast and it instantly opens and we'll never have to remember to download that because now it's installed it's a channel on our Roku device check out today's sponsor acorns which lets you invest your spare
