Morning Vietnam he was called a genius for the sharp humor for the incredible Transformations for the Deep tragedy of his characters and the sincerity of each story he made us laugh and forced us to delve into the deep meaning of the messages beautifully wrapped in a screen packaging he is the legendary Robin Williams he's the Einstein of Comedy he played in hundreds of films tirelessly giving a smile to his audience but behind the external extravagance and IR repressibility a completely different person was hiding his life was filled with demons worries and fears that many people still don't know about what was he really like why did he talk about his childhood with sorrow at what point did addiction get the better of him and how has he changed in the last months of his life Welcome to the biographer Channel let's get [Music] started a boy who was named Robin mclen Williams was born at St Luke's Hospital in Chicago Illinois on July 21st 1951 he was lucky to be born into a very wealthy family his father Robert Fitzgerald was a senior executive in Ford Motor Company and his mother Lori McLaren Smith had her own modeling business in the past in addition to wealth the Williams family could also boast of origin so Robert came from a prominent Evansville family and Lori was the great granddaughter of Senator and governor of Mississippi on onel J McLaren for both roberton's parents their marriage was the second and by the time of his birth the family was already raising children from previous relationships but the boy's relationship with his step brothers did not work out Todd and muren often lived in another family were noticeably older and were not particularly interested in Robin later the actors said that wealth and famous ancestors did not make him a happy child it would seem that the boy was surrounded by everything that any child of his age could dream of except for one thing the attention of loved ones his father worked a lot and his mother often traveled with her husband or spend her time with dinner parties to which friends and colleagues gathered Lai said afterwards I didn't realize how lonely Robin had been he had some very lonely years you think you're being a wonderful mother but maybe you aren't Robin was often on his own and socialized with the maids rather than with his family the only companion and friend of his childhood was imagination and Rich fantasy short shy and private he spent most of his time alone playing with his toys I was an only child so yeah for a long time it was just me and the puppet but even then it became the basis that helped Robin in the future to adapt to be flexible to look for a solution in any situation thanks to his mother the talent of the future star was born the boy noticed early on that making his mother laugh was an opportunity to get her attention the first laugh is always the one that gets you hooked he pointed out for me it was my mother I was always trying to make her laugh in another interview he said about it again when I was little my mother was funny with me and I started to be charming and funny for her and I learned that by being entertaining you make a connection with another besides lri herself became an example for him the bright witty woman was the first beauty of New Orleans and sometimes did not miss the opportunity to surprise and amuse the audience so one day lri appeared at a charity event in an expensive dress and with a piece of dark Scotch tape on her teeth giving food for conversation about herself for several days the problem with being overweight and self-doubt weighed Robin down so much that one day it led him to a school psychologist he was often ridiculed at school and the boy found a way to cope with reality he used comedy which he picked up from his mother's witty sense of humor as a defense mechanism or were you acting up like this all the time which is great I was kind of geeky in school I was very quiet very like wow what are what are you guys doing okay that sounds reasonable I have to go away now you're W what are those I don't know I was very quiet in 1963 the Williams family moved to Detroit where his father was offered a higher position to head the main office of the company there they settled down in a luxurious mansion with dozens of rooms in a 20 acre land plot young Robin was made to change schools but it only did him good he already knew a way to endear himself to people and thanks to his sense of humor he earned a reputation as one of the most popular guys at school although not immediately I spent about 3 years in an all boy School near Detroit Williams is quoted as saying it was almost like the one in Dead Poet Society Blazer Latin motto I was getting pushed around a lot Not only was there like physical bullying but there was intellectual bullying going on it made me toughen up but it also made me pull back a lot I had a certain reticence about dealing with people through comedy I found a way to bridge the gap at a private rural Day School in Detroit the future actor was able to show all his talents he excelled in his studies was a member of the school football and wrestling teams and even became class president he was able to overcome his painful shinness thanks to the drama faculty of high school there he developed his Artistry inspired by The Works of comedian Jonathan Winters Friends of the future star will remember him as a very funny man who often parody teachers and disrupted lessons at school he eventually found friends and got rid of the extra pounds but self-doubt will stay with him for the rest of his life from that moment on humor will become a kind of mask for Williams a way to safely communicate with others I think it helps I think it can really be a good thing to keep keeps it it kind of releases releases a great energy in people you can get you can talk about things that are quite sometimes painful and get across with comedy something that you couldn't talk just straight at because people would go oh please don't talk about that at the age of 16 Life Changes again his father retired early and the family moved again this time to California there the young man continued his education at Redwood High School and the practice of winning the hearts of others with a sense of humor it is significant that by the time he graduated in 1969 classmates called him most likely not to succeed and funniest in 1969 Williams decided to enroll in a political science course at Claremont College he achieved one of the highest results in the entrance exams Williams Senior really wanted to see his son become a future Diplomat and readily paid for his studies but life turned out differently having tried himself in the student theater Robin began to realize that a career as a diplomat no longer attracted him I was barely active mentally I was having a lot of fun at that point and Claremont was very conservative with a lot of economists a lot of thinktank guys the biggest demonstration they had was two guys with a sign in front of the ROC office the girls were part to blame for this story the theater Club at Claremont College was predominantly female and many guys went there to meet young female students Robin was no exception who was trying to impress a local Drama teacher who was 25 at the time it was there that Robin realized that acting gives him what he craves attention people that could fit like 20 people and then by the end of the semester it was up to doing shows in the big Auditorium for like 500 people so it was like this is working this is great bad news is it didn't help my political science course A year later he dropped out of Claremont college and moved to New York his parents did not understand their son's choice and were very upset Robert refused to support his son who chose a future on stage the future star's life has not always been easy he could be fed by classmates troop leaders or even a cleaner subsequently even when Robin earned the first raise of Fame the respect from family did not increase for him for a long time the parents could not come to terms with the choice their son and those around him so one of the classmates recalls quote we had to enter the house secretly we slept in his bedroom and entered through the window all this because we were from a theatrical environment and it was forbidden in the family later this situation will be reflected in one of Williams Works Dead Poet Society where the actor saw the story of the struggle for a dream in the confrontation between a young man and an authoritarian [Applause] father Robin began his career by performing in front of an audience while simultaneously studying Theater Arts at Marin College during rehearsals on stage he often improvised putting cast members in hysterics Professor James Dunn recalled that the depth of Williams Talent became especially evident for him thanks to the production of musical Oliver where Robin performed as Fagan Dunn called his wife after one late rehearsal to tell her that Williams quote was going to be something special Robin's first performance as a comedian took place at the holy City's Zoo Club where he went from being a bartender to performing in public there he also got acquainted with the complex world of standup comedy of the 1970s during a period when the sexual Revolution rock and roll and the mass distribution of illegal substances flourished massively in culture according to critic Gerald knockman Williams not only got into the very center of these processes but also helped lead the bubbling comedy Renaissance in those years this stuff multiplied at a terrible rate almost everyone in the industry had problem s with it later the actor admitted that he saw how the greatest minds of his time turned into dirt Robin understood the situation in which he had to work he described comedy as a violent field where the lifestyle of partying alcohol and illegal substances took their toll they burn out it takes its toll he recalled if you're on the road it's even more brutal you got to come back down to Mellow your ass out and then performing takes you back up sometimes they just give up but it was there that he learned his incredible improvisation thanks to a mly and often Tipsy audience that did not always respond well or adequately and the comedian was either looking for a way to make contact or he left the stage so one day during a performance one of the spectators poured water on him spat on him and swore at him what should you do in this situation that's right play the pool scene is nobody in the audience listening create imaginary characters at its core it was a survival School it was usually you start off performing in bars where you can't really take the time because people go and it's you know oh you doing now and those those are usually people who own the club so I started to develop a style that was just very much like you know synaptic quick firing moving so they never really had a chance to lock you know lock on as a Target and then it started to develop as being this kind of idea of taking an idea and going with it and then breaking away and that's been kind of the style in 1973 Robin decided to continue his studies at the famous New York juliard school there he had the opportunity to deepen his knowledge of theatrical art he was one of 20 students who were accepted for the first year and one of two students accepted by John Housman for the advanced training program that year another was Christopher reev later he'll describe the first impression of the future Star as follows he wore tiedyed shirts with track suit bottoms and talked a mile a minute I'd never seen so much energy contained in one person he was like an un balloon that had been inflated and immediately released I watched in awe as he virtually cumed off the walls of the rooms and hallways to say that he was on would be a major understatement according to Robin himself if Christopher was chosen because he was stunningly handsome then Williams was chosen as a character actor with unusual inclinations hairy and funny they would become good friends who would stay in touch until ree's death in 2004 after an accident Robin's son Zach will remember that they were like brothers and Williams paid many of Reeves medical bills as well as providing financial support to his family but let's go back to the' 70s in parallel with his studies the future star practiced wit performing in New York nightclubs with humorous monologues and in between studying and Performing he worked as a waiter the funny sketches of the young stand-up artist were popular and the club Owners willingly invited Robin to their place paying him well for his work classical education also helped it provided tools and helped to get out of UN expected situations so during the premiere of one of the clubs all the microphones broke during the performance the organizers did not know what to do because the show was in Jeopardy and the sound system went out and the guy went what are we going to do what are we going to do I can talk loud and that was the first time and that when I kind of also determined my style of just being off mic and not a standing Target working the whole audience and using that ability to project my voice to kind of change the perspective in the room so that was the beginning of using literally one of those skills Robin did not study at juliard school for long Houseman understood that in front of him was a talented actor and the school could no longer teach him anything his opinion was shared by another theater school teacher Gerald Friedman who noted Williams as a genius and believed that the conservative teaching style did not suit him Mr Williams the theater needs you I'm going off to sell Volvos therefore Houseman tried to influence a talented student advising Williams to quit the business of a restaurant comedian and not waste his talent but go conquer Hollywood Robin returned to San Francisco where he was looking for work but it was without success after participating in a small original Harold Pinter's production the lover the young comedian was looking for a place to show his talent and he happened to see an ad that a local Presbyterian coffee shop was looking for comedians to entertain visitors between coffee and musical compositions there Robin began to hone his work with the audience during his performances which eventually became very popular realizing that there was Room to Grow he still decided to move to Los Angeles and continued his performances in local clubs perseverance is paid off at one of these shows Williams was seen by famous producer George Schlatter who was looking for new faces for the show laugh in the young comedian impressed him so much that Schlatter asked him to take part in the Revival of his project Laughin with Robin's participation was released at the end of 1977 and became the artist's debut appearance on television also that same year Williams performed a show at La improv for the home box office unfortunately Laughin didn't last long even such a young bright artist could not revive the show and it gradually lost viewers but it was a good boost for the comedians career and helped them attract the attention of other producers after the closing of Laughin Robin had to return to performing in public and hone his improvisation skills from that moment on Williams became a welcome guest on popular shows and was even invited to perform in front of the London public an indicator of Robin's success can be considered an invitation to the Richard prior show where almost all comedians dreamed of getting on soon another project appeared on his track record it was 8 is enough each appearance to the general public enhanced Williams reputation as a talented comedian and soon he will have a chance to successfully consolidate the status it was the role of an Alien named Mor as before Robin was spotted in one of the nightclubs the sister of director Gary Marshall was impressed by his performance and offered to try out for the role of Mor in the TV series Happy Days the same creative artist helped him get an unusual role and then I went in and basically just started talking in the weird kind of helium voice and sat on my head and you know just started off just playing and then just cuz I went what have you got to lose and they went yes I went serious and so I got the gig the alien appeared in just a few episodes where his character was sent to observe the earthlings but the character was so liked by the audience and the creators of the show that the story about Mor got its spin-off there he not only stayed on Earth but also fell in love with an Earthly girl in tandem with Pam Dober Williams worked in a funny sitcom for 4 years from 1978 he was there like a duck to water his eccentric character was constantly joking dressed in colorful outfits and got into funny situations Mor soon became one of the most recognizable characters in the United States and the actor's popularity skyrocketed being at the dawn of his career Robin received his first big successful project and his first award the Golden Globe it was not surprising that top magazines began to be interested in him in March 1979 Williams appeared on the cover of time and soon on the front page of Rolling Stone magazine in 1979 he gave a live comedy show at the Cupa Cabana in New York called reality what a concept for which he got a Grammy but success had the other side of the coin Robin's dependence problem began to worsen during his work on Moran Mindy this problem will become his faithful companion throughout the two decades while the actor's career will strive upward after a dizzying success on television Williams began to actively act in films Mama I'm On TV in 1980 he appeared in the comedy musical film Popeye where he played the role of a seasoned sailor despite the fact that the picture did not succeed it became the next step in the actress career 2 years later the world according to GARP was released which earned High reviews from from both viewers and critics the film adaptation of John Irving's novel was one of the few successful attempts to create a film no worse than the original story the plot tells us about a young writer and his attempt to find himself in this life achieve his dreams and figure out Human Relationships Ecentric tragic and comical touching and real you will find such definitions for the picture on the web and they'll be equally true for both the film itself and for Robin who played the main character I thought the acting was unconventional and absorbing especially by Williams by Glenn Close as his mother and by John litho as a transsexual I thought the visualization of the events by director George Roy Hill was fresh and consistently interesting that's what Roger Ebert wrote about the film awarding it three stars out of four world according to GARP is a Charming old-fashioned Coming of Age story about a writer chronicling his adventures and using his experiences to craft his stories however it's not TS GARP Williams himself who's Larger than Life it's the world and characters that surround him Liam goffen will write about it 40 years later in collider Robin didn't stop there of course he worked hard developing his comedy and drama skills one by one there were released pictures as the survivors Moscow and the Hudson the best of times Club Paradise sees the day and each of them whether he's a simple office worker a Soviet musician or a firefighter who happened to be on a small Caribbean island the actor portrayed first of all a simple real guy who want to believe he managed to win the hearts of the audience who experienced All the Troubles and joys with his characters of course it wasn't without effort so for the role of Vladimir a Soviet circus musician in the film Moscow on the Hudson he had to take an intensive Russian language course and learn to play the [Music] saxophone despite the fact that initially the director of the picture Paul mzeri was quite sad satisfied that Williams read a few Russian lines from a piece of paper and imitated playing a musical instrument but the latter thought otherwise Robin did not want to engage in mimicry immediately after receiving the role he grew a beard and hair and stubbornly engaged in training and during the filming in Munich it was very important for Williams to be able to blend in with Europeans and therefore he was already perfecting the accent in the process playing the saxophone became easier and this is despite the fact that the artist has not played any musical instrument before except for the harmonica moreover Robin couldn't even read music that's why he took lessons from Greg Phillips before filming simultaneously studying for several hours every day even though I insisted that he learned to read music his mind was so fast that we would I thought be reading a piece and he would memorize it as quickly as we played through it so then when I would say to Robin why don't we go back to Bar 15 or 16 he would go uh yeah where's that because he had it in his head but he couldn't tell on the music where it was according to the book by David Koff a friend of Williams the actor had a photographic memory and could parity any accent and people who have never worked with Williams claim that there were no roles that he would not have played the actor instantly transformed in different characters spoke a variety of dialects and even unfamiliar languages but even this poorly explains how he was able to learn Billy strah horns Take the A Train in such a short period of study despite all efforts Moscow on the Hudson was a modest success and was met with restraint on the review AGG Ator website Rotten Tomatoes 73% of 77 critics reviews are positive with an average rating of 6.8 out of 10 the website's consensus reads with Robin Williams affecting portrayal as a Russian immigrant at the center of its Fish Out of Water story Moscow and the Hudson Soares with an abundance of laughs and heart you had to happy to be in America this country okay despite the fact that Robin really needed this success after the not very commercially successful survivors but the good reviews of the acting were an indication that his potential had not yet been revealed and everything was still ahead subsequent Works were evaluated no better they noted Robin's good acting and an average mediocre movie sees the day had been called unnecessarily depressive and protracted a writing in New York Magazine critic John Leonard called the film ugly stuff but said that Williams quote is for the most part up to it at the same time the actor took part in the voicing of documentaries and continued to work in standups he was actively invited to various shows who whoopy well the Fun's just beginning I have a choice I can either become a priest or go blind but with the external irrepressible energy and flow of improvisation that accompanied Robin's every performance every shooting he was a completely different person in life according to the Memoirs of his friends the comedian was a closed and tacern person no one knew what was really in his soul and in his head classmates and colleagues on this stage recall that the actor either remained silent at all times or invented a hero for himself and immediately transformed in front of the inter litter was no longer Robin Williams but a certain character created by Him both the fans and the people who worked with him believed that Robin could easily play any role and only those close to him knew that any image joke or parody was the result of a lot of effort and endless work on himself his condition was aggravated by addiction to alcohol heavier things after a burst of energy on stage and loads he wanted to relax they were given to the actor for free from people who dreamed of capturing his attention as well as using it for their own purposes after leaving the stage Williams seemed to be falling into a downward spiral getting deeper and deeper into his addiction perhaps only Valerie the actor's first wife knew what the real Robin was like they met in a bar in San Francisco in 1976 while still working part-time in standups and studying at juliard school she often helped them by using her talent to warm up the audience she remembered the first meeting for two things Robin asked her to take him home and he also tried to impress her with his knowledge of another language quote he was speaking French and I was teasing him and we had a kiss and I just knew I was going to see him again she said the couple soon moved to Los Angeles and got married in 1978 and in 1983 they had Robin's first child son Zachary I feel wonderful it's great being a father he my son has a great trick he does he goes father father look look I don't have neck muscles it's incredible to come home late sometimes to see my wife standing going he's in there you feel like Max von cido going I will deal with the child but the marriage didn't work out the pernicious Hobbies of the actor were the reason as well as passion for the opposite sex he was always looking for a connection or another character or an accent she said of Williams he was Shameless he would just do it family problems became public when one of Robin's Mistresses sued him for $6.2 million for alleged ly infecting her with herpes in the 2018 HBO documentary Robin Williams come inside my mind valard opened up about their relationship and admitted she forced herself to allow Williams infidelity he loved women absolutely loved women she said I understood and I wanted him to have that but I also wanted him to come home as a result the relationship ended 10 years after the wedding on the initiative of Valerie who could no longer put up with the dark side of her husband's success an accident interrupted the corring period his friend and colleague John Belushi tragically died of an overdose after spending several hours with Williams and Robert DeNiro on the same day this impressed Robin so much that he decided to radically change his life and fight for sobriety here's a guy who's a beast who could do anything and he's gone Williams later reflected that sobered the out of me they say that a bicycle presented by a familiar owner of a bicycle store helped him in this a new hobby brought the artist back to the bright side for how long no one knew and he didn't know either but that time after suffering a shock Williams decided to focus on his family and work and ahead of him were victories and a role that turned his life around we probably would never have seen Jumanji or Mrs Doubtfire if Robin hadn't walked into producer Larry brar's office one day during this innocuous meeting he accidentally saw the script that was being developed for the upcoming film that you and we know was called Morning Vietnam initially the role of journalist Adrien cronar was not written for Williams but he immediately showed great interest in it as manager David Steinberg recalls quote Robin said wow Vietnam disc jockey that sounds really interesting can I do it Larry said if you want to that would be fantastic Larry set the movie up he was then moving more into the movie part of our business less the managing part the anti-war drama tells the story of a DJ of the Radio Service of the US Armed Forces who Turns Upside Down the entire previously established tradition of conducting radio broadcasts in addition to news reports and music one could hear witty and obscene humor from his broadcast which creates a lot of problems and Adventures for him the Prototype of the main character was a radio host Adrien krar who worked as the head of the news Department of the US Armed Forces Radio in Vietnam and went on the air starting the program with a long drawn phrase good Good morning Vietnam two of the brightest and most beautiful regions of Thailand served as the backdrop for the production of the picture Bangkok became the filming location for most of the scenes in which the locals debuted on the screen and to recreate the Vietnamese Village the film crew moved to pukit a lush and colorful island of Thailand the director strictly forbade Robin to meet with cronar fearing that by imitating the Prototype the actor would lose his own identity that's why Williams was able to get to know the original DJ only at the premiere but apart from himself and his service in Vietnam most of the script is a creative invention according to Adrian much of what was shown in the plot was just a story commenting on his image in the film he said anybody who has been in the military will tell you that if I did half the things in that movie I'd still be in L worth right now a lot of Hollywood imagination went into the movie I was a disc jockey in Vietnam and I did teach English in my spare time I was not thrown out of Vietnam I stayed for my full one-year tour and I was honorably discharged and apparently the actor agreed with this describing his role Robin admitted that his portrayal of kar in the film was only about 5% character 95% himself but it was this comedy drama that demonstrated Robin's unique ability to combine improvisation with scripted comedy and drama all the erors were prepared by Williams himself I had no idea what my progression would be I was just doing it I was just getting gigs trying to work it was literally like what's the next job under the guidance of Barry levenson the actor worked overtime to get used to and act out his image well he thought thought through all the jokes of his character in advance what seems to us to be a successful improvisation was actually the result of hours of work moreover very limited time was allocated for work since the release of the film was planned for Christmas 1987 for the sake of his research the actor went to Thailand to study the local mentality and history in more detail thanks to a consultant he mastered the local soldiers slang from the Vietnam War and local pop culture Williams wrote down many notes clarifying which topics were banned among them were Kinks Beatles top 40 psychedelic Etc Williams also learned some pretty crft shorthand hoan's Revenge was for instance an American Army term for diarrhea other nicknames the military boys had developed were even lazou then at night he would try to return to his hotel room and practice cronar performances to try himself at work and hone his jokes Robin went to a real recording studio in Bangkok and together with levenson they selected the best of them Robin was very nervous after not very successful previous Works he was worried that good morning Vietnam would be his last work and it was so important to him that everything went perfectly that he was ready to pay for the re-shoot if something went wrong in his opinion as a result it took several days to shoot the scenes at the radio station and the audience was able to admire this part for only 12 minutes during the entire film but there was so much material that according to levenson's Recollections they were unable to use so much in the end I was struggling to get him to believe me that we were on Solid Ground so it was a time of in security for him because he hadn't had the kind of success in movies that he did when he exploded on television with Mor and Mindy and we all felt a little pressure because there had never been a film about Vietnam that had any humor in it we weren't doing goofball comedy but he was nervous about that and the fact that he hadn't had a breakout film the director seeing the talent and capabilities of his main actor always relied on his improvisation so during the scene with the English lesson Robin followed the script dryly and clearly levenson understood that this was not working there was no impact to the audience and therefore he took a break from work to his surprise during the break Williams quickly found common ground with the extras sitting in a shady place he talked to his film students and they laughed so during the break levenson came up to Robin and said look what you were just doing was so much more alive than what we were doing so here's what I'm going to do I'm going to give a hand signals to the camera guys and you just start talking wander around pick up the main points of the scene but let's not be bound by the script the key to Robin's image was his personality the artist was very good at getting along with people that's why they agreed when the director gave the signal Williams was just talking to someone from the class as a result scenes were built from these conversations Good morning Vietnam earned $123 million huge popularity and brought Robin his first Oscar nomination a year later the audience saw the actor in a new image the king of the Moon in Terry gilliams Adventure film The Adventures of Baron moonin in the same year Williams appeared on the stage with Steve Martin in the play Waiting for gdau at Lincoln Center Terry was delighted to work with Robin and spoke warmly of him many years later I loved Robin he was just extraordinary when we did The Adventures of Baron munchos he even though the budget has got out of control Robin said yes and was an utter Joy almost everything he says is him ad living we did have a script but he would go off track and it was hilarious Williams was able to submit his status as a serious actor in 1989 in Peter Weir's film which became iconic you've probably already guessed it we're talking about the Dead Poet Society in which the actor had the main role the English literature teacher John keading the film was based on the book of the same name by Peter Weir it has become a real cultural phenomenon telling about an out-of-the-box thinking teacher and his students whose lives he turned upside down the film takes place in 1959 at the Welton Academy a strict and Elite boarding school in Vermont which students often refer to as the helon academy therefore the Revolutionary approach of the protagonist acquires additional significance in the context of social turning point in approach to education here Williams was able to play to the fullest whistling climbing on the desks and making sparkling jokes Robin was able to successfully convey all the ambiguity of his character using body language and skillfully balancing between the facets of the main character's character no matter what anybody tells you words and ideas can change the world interestingly you and we might not have seen the actor in this role because Mel Gibson and Liam niss also were considered for the role but Disney wanted Williams in this role so much that it rejected all other candidates the comedian himself was also initially not very keen on the idea of taking on this project according to the screenwriter Tom Schulman Robin was very evasive when it came to working on the picture Shulman said that Disney put a lot of pressure on the actor by moving forward with production plans without his commitment the film was to be shot outside of Atlanta and they built sets and everything and after the first day Robin Williams didn't show up shman said they canceled the production burn the sets we actually had dailies of the set burning and I thought well that's the end of that the reason for this unusual behavior was not obvious to Robin the actor was not eager to work with the then director Jeff canoe whom he disliked most likely it was Mutual because canoe himself promoted niss into the lead role it was only after canoe left the director's post and Weir was hired instead that Robin returned to the project this fact is an indicator of how much significance the actor had at that time in the world of the film industry and the producer's BET was justified the actor improvised as usual improving about 15% of his dialogues he never stops acting he's always cracking us up but I don't get a sense of who he is extra and real life St Andrews senior Rob Ellis told the news journal of Williams on set for the sake of this improvisation the director even hid from the studio bosses half a day of unofficial filming during which he gave the actor a real card blanch Weir later said that this approach was chosen by him for a reason while working on the general scenes where Williams played with other younger and more inexperienced actors the director was afraid to give the comedian complete freedom of action everything was benal he was afraid that the cast would not play but laugh all the time I planned a halfday unscheduled shoot where I let Robin do his thing we completely concealed this from Disney's front office we set up three cameras in the corners of the room and I told the boys Robin's coming after lunch to do a scene that isn't in the script just remember he's still your teacher Mr keing and you wreck the scene if you laugh like you're watching a standup comic so act amused but don't overdo it weird said as a result it was these scenes where Williams portrayed John Wayne and Marlon Brando that were included in the final version of the film romance Countryman let ass you can also Imagine maybe John Wayne is MC Beth going well is this a dagger I see before me Robin did not change who he was outside of filming walking around Delaware and willingly communicating with the locals that's why everybody now feels a connection to him mayor Ken Bronner told Delaware online after the actor's death we have a great legacy with him with Dead Poets that'll never go away he also tried to build friendly relations with colleagues on the set Josh Charles who played one of the main character students warmly recalled The Joint period of work on Dead Poet Society I was most struck by how kind he was and how nice he was to the 17-year-old 18-year-old kids which is really sweet to hear Charles said Williams made great effort to be just one part of The Ensemble he said Dead Poet Society did not take the first place during the release but earned about $100 million as well as many awards including the bafta award for best film and the Academy Award for best original screenplay Williams also received his second Oscar nomination for best actor the film was a huge success among critics and viewers but there was one famed critic who did not like the movie Roger Ebert who gave it two stars instead of the final scene quote I was so moved I wanted to throw up but in his case such a characterization can be considered rather a compliment over the years the popularity of the picture has grown giving rise to side plays and novels as well as becoming familiar in school curricula and in lists of inspirational films after these two films Williams was perceived as an actor who could handle the widest range of images in various roles well Rob wasted no time and continued to work hard he still gave his irrepressible energy to the audience looking for a way to find peace of mind in his work I've realize that it's important to do for me as you know it's cheaper than therapy number one and number two there's so much to talk about you know you have a lot of things going on in the world just the pope alone when he dramas and comedies came out one after another the actor expanded his dramatic range not forgetting his vocation to make the audience laugh in 1990 Williams together with Robert dairo revealed the secrets of the human brain in Penny Marshall's Awakenings the film was based on real events the circumstances of 1969 to 1970 that happened to neurologist Oliver Sachs and the script was based on his memoirs about it the movie was true to the original and told about sack's attempt to use an Innovative method to treat patients who had survived the epidemic of lethargic incilius with a neuros stimulator that had previously been used to treat Parkinson's a medication that will be found in the comedians blood later under the tragic circumstances of 2014 but so far he did not even realize that he would meet with this medicine again already in personal therapy both Robin and dairo were made not only to talk to the neurologist himself but also to observe his work and real patience in the hospital before starting to create images the doctor in addition to Consulting with the actors was on set and helped match to the Prototype Williams himself got the role of Sach and during the preparation for his role the actor became close friends with the doctor the Williams even cited portraying saxd sire as his favorite role in a Reddit ask me anything saying quote I think playing Oliver saxs and Awakenings was a gift because I got to meet him and got to explore the human brain from the inside out because Oliver writes about human behavior subjectively and that for me was the beginning of a fascination with human behavior the Nero portrayed a patient who was able to temporarily get rid of the disease thanks to the efforts of a doctor albeit temporarily [Music] despite attempts to fully match the original Robin's character's name was changed he became Malcolm sire scenes of violent side effects from experimental medication treatment have been mitigated too in addition events and scenes were added to heighten the dramatic effect and it was a success again good box office and critical Acclaim and it even got the approval of Roger Ebert who gave the film four stars out of four calling the role of Dr saxs one of the best in Williams career Awakening was nominated for three Academy Awards Robin was again left without the desired statue at but the movie confirmed the actor's success in dramatic roles in the same year the actor gave Reason Not only to sympathize but also to laugh Roger Donaldson's Cadillac Man was released on the scenes where Robin played the role of a car salesman whose life was not going well at all until the jealous husband of one of his colleagues broke into his office and all this turned into an extraordinary situation that led to a rethinking of his Hero's life here the artist was an unsuccessful womanizer a funny man a huster a deep psychologist A desperate father and just a good man who was ready to sacrifice himself for others the plan the plan for you the plan that's going to get you out of here huh and not just you you and me because you and me we're in this together you know what I'm saying the film did not become brilliant it received mixed reviews from critics and collected only $27 million with a budget of $15 million Roger eard had mixed feelings about the film giving it a two out of four stars stating quote my problems with Cadillac Man were probably inspired more by false expectations than by anything on the screen and maybe if Robins had come crashing in through the window in the first scene I would have liked it more 1991 was a particularly fruitful year in the actor's career he managed to prove himself in as many as five projects including the tragic comedy the fisher king the family comedy hook as well as the voice acting of the cartoon a wish for wings that work the role of a homeless man with a clouded mind has become one of the most unusual in Robin's career and one of the most tragic as the story progresses we learn that his character is named Perry but in fact he is Henry Sean a teacher at Hunter College broken after the death of his wife the indirect culprit of this tragedy is the other main character of the picture Jack a radio host portrayed by Jeff Bridges under the able guidance of Terry gilam Robin was able to reveal the full tragedy of the devastated human soul subtly and SK F moving from one personality of his hero to another in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in August 2014 Gilliam said of Williams Performance that quote it is the whole breadth of Robin which no other part I think out there does it's all there you start seeing floating little fat people tell you that you're on a mission from God they'll slap you some heavy thorine I said Give Me A Sign according to the director it was felt in working with the artist that for Williams His Image had become something more than just a fictional character character this was especially evident with the episodes where Perry struggled with the persecution of The Red Knight the embodiment of all the darkest sides of his character's personality I didn't have to push him because he believed that was true he knew the darker side and what it means to have demons gilliams said adding that Williams helped to turn the scenes from cutesy on the page to something much darker Williams was already known for giving himself completely to his work but in working on a scene about Perry's inner nightmares being chased by The Red Knight and being tortured by teenage punks he seemed to have pushed himself to the extreme the director recalled that the actor was so deeply involved in his role so deeply worried about what happened to his character that he went to the extreme the entire film crew was afraid to approach him Robin was on the verge of adequacy he constantly asked to re-shoot these scenes constantly asking for a new take this scene wasn't a challenge to shoot as far as effects are concerned but it was very hard from an acting point of view because Robin was tearing his guts out emotionally and I had to really stop him I had to say Robin you reached a point here Way Beyond what we expected we've got what we needed now you're just hurting yourself the last shot of this scene where Perry runs in a hysterical state was filmed several times and Williams anyway was angry that he was not given enough time to correctly portray his character's experiences Robin was an incredibly strong guy when he'd worked himself into this state of Madness for the part nobody could approach him the first assistant the stunt guy nobody wanted to get near him they were terrified gilean recalled so I had to go up there and tell him Robin what we have here is very good and if we look at the rushes and it isn't I promise you I will reshoot it it is not surprising that the film received wide recognition among critics and viewers as well as a number of Oscar nominations it included a nomination for best actor for Robin Williams as well as two Golden Globe awards one of which was also received by the artist the fisher king is still considered one of Robin's best roles and an underrated work by Terry Gilliam less tragic but no less touching was the role of the grown-up Peter Pan in Steven Spielberg's family comedy a classic Children's Story featuring a stellar cast including Dustin Hoffman and Maggie Smith has been shown in A New Perspective what happens if the boy from everyone's favorite story still grows up finds a job and starts a family what the hell's the matter with you when you going to stop acting like a child I am a child grow up in the film hook the actor plays an adult and tired pet pan rescuing his children from the Captivity of the villain hook finding himself in a magical land Peter Pan suddenly realizes that the past has not gone away and in his soul he is still the same Eternal child he probably won't be surprised of course Robin amused and entertained his young colleagues who played Boys in Neverland but sometimes he got very serious when it came to support during work so actor RJ Hammond who played thud butt said that while working on the film several children began to bully him and Robin noticed this stood up for the boy saying quote what are you doing we're on a set this is a major film why would you act like this it was really surprising because we always saw Robin Williams always joking always laughing always doing the craziest things and when he would do that all the kids would stop because they were so shocked that the 10-year-old child in him would stop for a minute or two hmond recalled but for many children in the late ' 80s and early 90s one of the most beloved characters was genie in the Animated Series Aladdin the project probably would not have had such success if it had not had such a variety of voice acting which appeared through Williams efforts when the actor was offered the role he showed no desire to take part in the Disney project but he agreed anyway deciding that he wanted to become part of this animation tradition and do something for his children initially he was planned that the role of Genie would be smaller but everything has changed since the moment Robin crossed the threshold of the recording studio as a result the artist created more than 30 hours of dialogues both scripted and improvised the artist's monologues are full of jokes puns and parodies and Robin made his character deep and charismatic giving him not only his voice but also his facial expressions as with any job Williams devoted himself to it completely he often had to be stopped Ron Clemens co-director of Aladdin shared memories with variety each take robin would add and embellish so by the 25th take the scene had expanded from 3 minutes to about 20 minutes long Robin kept coming up with more and more ideas and he was consistently hilarious at one point we had to remove the Genie's lead animator Eric Goldberg from the recording stage because his uncontrollable laughter was messing up takes Clemens admitted that there was a lot of material left at the end of the work but they could not fit everything into the final result after all the artist could have several humorous answers to each variant of the dialogue for example there was a scene where Genie turned into a bee and flew over Aladdin who was worried about talking to Princess Jasmine how do I look wer asked in behind the scenes footage and Williams wastes no time in replying like a vampire on a day pass Wier was unable to keep a straight face and from that scene and Beyond Williams never ran out of quips and responses Aladdin raised 504 million and became a real success in addition to rave reviews the cartoon has got numerous nominations and wins including four Oscar nominations a win in Annie in the best animated feature film category four Golden Globe nominations and seven Grammy nominations the genie is the perfect match of character and actor with the character's presence in the film arguably the closest that has ever caught the genius brilliance of Williams on screen in all its Glory Lloyd Farley wrote about it in the collider review the success was overshadowed by the conflict between the artist in the Disney Studio what happened between them Robin signing the contract agreed to participate in a lower salary amount only $75,000 instead of 8 million only on the condition that his name and character would not be involved in advertising but the agreement was violated Genie was on the poster and was featured in the commercial in addition the studio used his voice the actor's reaction was predictable as a result he refused to participate in this sequel The Return of Jafar and the genie was voiced by another actor Dan castellaneta Robin will explain his position later then all of a sudden they release an advertisement one part was the movie the second part was where they used the movie to sell stuff not only did they use my voice they took a character I did and overdubbed it to sell stuff that was the one thing I said I don't do that that was the one thing where they crossed the line the studios had attempt to improve the situation with the help of a gift a Picasso picture worth $1 million did not change the artist's position the conflict continued until the official apology of Joe Roth the new chairman of Disney who took over in 1994 this brought Robin back to the role of the genie in the 1996 film Aladdin and the King of Thieves in 2009 the feud finally became a thing of the past when Williams was hailed as a Disney Legend at the d23 Expo continuing to bring serious themes to Comedy projects Williams appeared in Barry levenson's drama comedy toys the theme of War and Peace militarism and pacifism parenting and new technologies are touched upon in cheerful and toyish tones Robin of course took the main role in this work playing Leslie Zeo the son of the owner of a toy factory who's trying to resist an evil Uncle to enslave the world yeah use your noodle good night the project turned out to be very ambiguous on the one hand there were two Oscar nominations a and six nominations for the Saturn film award among them was the best actor category for Robin Williams on the other hand there was a nomination for the golden raspberry for the worst director after its release the film failed at the box office without even making its budget back critics have rid levenson's work mostly negatively they criticized the Ragged plot the lack of a strong story and the motivation of the characters the film has an approval rating of 29% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 28 reviews and an average score of 4.5 out of 10 the website's consensus reads quote like a colorfully over-engineered gual on the Shelf toys might look like fun but its seemingly Limitless possibilities lead mainly to confusion and disappointment but that's what failures are for to draw conclusions and move on moreover Robin was in great demand and new cool projects were waiting for him ahead Robin Williams has been at the peak of his popularity since the early '90s it is in the 90s that the bulk of the actor's work Falls which you can name even when you're asleep and it was launched by a comedy that became a cold classic Chris columbus' Mrs downfire brought Robin a new round of mass popularity as well as a new production experience his character Daniel Hillard loses his job and family and decides to take a desperate step to change into a woman's dress put on a wig and get a job as a nanny at his family's house in order to establish relations with children I'm here guys ni in some form in the film his character needed help in a convincing enough costume so that his children and ex-wife would not reveal an ingenious plan to transform in real life Robin and the film crew also had to work hard took more than 4 hours a day to transform the artist into Mrs Doubtfire and a lot of makeup and Prosthetics were used in addition a multi-layered latex mask was used in the work which was assembled from several parts and painted by a makeup artist during a long painstaking process together with the prosthesis the mask was supposed to convey all the micro expressions of Robin's face as well as wrinkles and give the nanny's face maximum realism according to the director Williams inexhaustible energy led to the fact that during the creation of the film its creator shot almost 2 million pounds of tape the entire filming process was organized based on the format of the artist's work at first there were three or four takes according to the script and then Robin improvised Columbus recalls that quote there was a lot to see in improvisation required four cameras and the grueling work of a screenwriter who recorded all the lines and changes in the artist's dialogues by hand Robin was so carried away that he often did not remember the last remark he said we would go to the script supervisor and ask her and sometimes she didn't even get it all often he would literally give us a completely different take than what we did doing the written takes none of us knew what he was going to say when he got going and so I wanted to camera on the other actors to get their reactions the studio was loving what they were seeing [Music] the film was a box office success taking second place in fees as a result of the release the comedy became the best film of 1993 and entered the top 100 highest grossing films of the Dream Factory this result led to the fact that in 2014 Columbus discussed a sequel with Robin and according to the director the artist was interested in such a prospect and there was even an outline to the script but the sequel was never meant to happen in 2023 they started talking about making a documentary based on the materials of Mrs downfire which was never included in the original film yeah we're talking about a documentary and trying to get it done Columbus said we want to show Robin's process there's something special and magical about how he went about his work and I think it'd be fun to delve into it according to the director the rights belong to Fox Disney and they can do whatever they want with this property but should they no God no Columbus thinks the popularity of the story about the energetic Nanny led to the fact that Williams Legacy is still being tried to revive so in 2023 a play of the same name was presented on Broadway in the west end but the director of the original did not really appreciate the result I was just reading a lot of reviews ironically today and about the Broadway show which opened in New York this week and this guy who's playing him Rob McClure is supposedly very energetic and phenomenal Columbus told the outlet but he's no Robin Robin was one of a kind not forgetting his dramatic talents in 1993 Williams appeared with the drama Being Human by Bill forth the picture's bet was on the talent and name of a popular artist but the implementation of the idea itself turned out to be mediocre the plot consists of five complete but interconnected stories that take place in different eras the key link is Robin Williams hero who is reincarnated in each new story making his way through life being human failed at the box office earning just over $1 million at a cost of40 million it was criticized for its tightness flatness lack of Dynamics and superficiality Robin was unable to fully reveal his talent in this project or else forth could not fully disclose it in the meantime in order not to lose his comedic art door the artist simultaneously took part in small works this is how he played the father in one of the episodes of The Children's Program in search of Dr Seuss in 1995 Williams played another high-profile role Allan parish is a teenager who plays the dangerous and magical game of Jumanji which radically changed his life freed from the world of Jumanji he meets the children who live in his house and follow into the same trap as he did many years ago oh look two of those pieces are yours right who's the other pieces the elephant was mine the film directed by Joe Johnston became an adaptation of the work of the same name by Chris Von alsberg Robin's Partners on the set were young Kirsten Dunst Bradley Pierce who got the roles of the next generation of children looking for adventure as well as Bonnie Hunt and the role of the main character's best friend initially Robin did not plan to star in Jumanji and agreed only after reworking the script which changed the concept of presenting his character speaking about the film's development in 1995 the film's director Joe Johnston recalled that quote I know that Robin didn't want to do this project unless the fatherson story and this Fish Out of Water Manchild element were made more prominent the actor continued to support his young colleagues on the set realizing how difficult their first steps were it was difficult for young peers to work in the makeup of a monkey which is hero turn into in the course of the story the application of the makeup required daily sitting for three or more hours but Robin's guidance became an important episode in the career of a 12-year-old boy one day early in the shoot Robin sat in one of the makeup chairs next to me to keep me company and give me tips on how to get through the application process because he had done it on Mrs downfire he was incredibly kind and generous with his time energy and wisdom the Epic story gross $262 million more than paid off the production budget not disdaining minor roles Robin stared in parallel in such films as toong Fu Thanks for Everything Julie numar 9 months and the secret agent Mike Nichols comedy the bird cage became a way to break boundaries and talk to the audience about a topic that was still acute in world society at the time of the 90s the theme of homosexuality and the attempt of the two main homosexual characters played by Robin Williams and Nathan Lane to meet the standards became illustrative for the Moors of those times in the context of '90s Hollywood the bird cage has become a radical phenomenon very important in supporting LGBT people it seems to be a joke but what if the main characters have to pretend to be a classic American family all in order for their son to be accepted by the parents of the Beloved girl who are conservative people and hardly appreciated the way of life of the Goldman family don't use that tone to me what tone that sarcastic contemptuous tone that means you know everything because you're a man and I know nothing because I'm a woman you're not a woman oh you bastard what prompted the actor to star in such an unusual project it was the acting fun the message of the movie and a great script with a wonderful group of people it's like some of parfait it's got everything he admitted and Diane whis's laugh is like a drug for me he didn't really care how Society reacted to the result of his work moreover criticism from conservative politicians by the actor was seen as additional advertising initially Robin was offered the role of Albert Goldman but despite the fact that he was used to wearing a wig and a dress the actor refused I wanted to play Arman because it gave me an opportunity to portray a very dry type of Comedy versus being outrageous Williams said it was very interesting because it's restrained and reactive finding different layers of behavior Armand Goldman in his performance became no less elegant and bright a figure and together with Lane they had a great time on set it was laugh at First Sight we started riffing the moment we met Williams recalled their first meeting realizing that he had brilliant comedians in front of him Nichols G gave Robin and Nathan the opportunity to improvise but there was one condition weeks of hard rehearsals were required before filming the best ideas were included in the final scenario Nicholls very generously would say all right I will give you a wild take to get it all out of your system and say whatever it is that you're dying to say or if you have an idea you want to pursue and you know a few things came out of that so the scene of a wild demonstration of dance styles beloved by many was thought out by Robin himself with the help of choreographer consultant Vincent Pederson and the end of the scene was an improvisation at all the actors managed to do their job well it was so good that the director laughed so much he had to cover his head with a blanket a good joke quickly turned into a good friendship which was maintained after filming so during the Oprah show in 1996 in the context of the comedy press tour Robin supported Lane who was not ready to discuss his sexuality in public I don't think Oprah was trying to out me but I said to Robin beforehand I'm not prepared I'm so scared of going out there and talking to Oprah I'm not prepared to discuss that I'm gay on National Television I'm not ready he said oh it's all right don't worry about it we don't have to talk about it we won't talk about it according to Lane at the moment when Oprah began to ask leading questions Williams quickly and decisively seized the initiative of the conversation leading him in the other direction Robin was just the greatest person just a such a beautiful sensitive soul and so kind and generous to me the film about family values in the context of homosexual relationships was a huge success despite the fact that according to Lane not all the gay community positively perceived the result of their work basically the bird cage was very warmly received by both viewers and critics grossing $185 million at the box office on the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes the film holds an 84% approval score based on reviews from 62 critics with an average rating of 7 out of 10 the s's critical consensus reads quote Mike Nichols wrangles agreeably amusing performances from Robin Williams and Nathan Lane in this fun if not quite essential remake of the French Italian comedy L despite the popularity of the projects Williams never managed to get the coveted Oscar for the main role but the next job will bring him a statuette for a supporting role this role will be the image of mathematics professor Dr Shawn Maguire who takes under his care a brilliant young man who constantly gets into trouble the young man played by Matt Damon is named will so you've probably already figured out which movie we're talking about yeah maybe that means you in what way maybe you're in the middle of a storm a big storm the sky's falling on your head the waves are crashing over your little boat the ORS are about to snap the daring project of two aspiring Stars Damon and Ben Affleck who worked on the script was supported by Williams years later Affleck told how important it was for him to work with a star of this level I mean he did so much for us by believing in us and doing that movie and also by how warm and lovely and how kind he was and collaborative he said and I just thought well if this guy can do it and be kind to people and collaborate and work with people and care about them and listen to them I certainly can't neither afflac nor Damon imagined that the famous comedian would agree to a role in their film tired of the constant rejections in Hollywood they decided to take fate into their own hands and create a film where they would be guaranteed the main role of course they needed a famous name to sell the picture to movie bosses but the fact that Williams a AG to one of the roles was a happy accident the young Stars couldn't find a man for the role of Professor Maguire for a long time and they were ready for any star who would agree to play this role we wrote the role really open-ended we knew we could just adjust it if Morgan Freeman or Denzel Washington wanted to come and play it if Merill stre took the part instead of a father-son relationship it could be a motherson relationship Damon said but suddenly the young actor got the main role in Francis ca's new project the rain maker which increased Damon's star status and it was Capa who sent the script to Williams seeing him in the most suitable candidate for this role I read it and went this is really extraordinary Williams explained the Shawn character had such history that I was going where did it come from I found out later that it's based on Matt's mother and Ben's father kind of a synthesis of the two the filming process of course was not without improvisations but it was this method of work that helped the film become as Unforgettable as it is Robin didn't just play with the dialogues he voiced his lines with the voices of very various celebrities no one knew whose voice he would hear in the next take Robin's co-star actor stellin scars guard recalled he was constantly improvising then we had to do it again and he was James Kagney I think it was five or six takes with a different person every time he continued and then gradually he did something more and more like the character despite the fact that the role was dramatic Robin understood what the audience expected from him and the mischievous nature prevailed so in one of the scenes where the professor tells the ward one of the most touching memories about his late wife it was also not without tricks instead of following the script Williams began to bring a touch of fun to the mournful speech my wife used to fart when she was nervous she had all sorts of wonderful little e synes you know she used to fart and sleep I'm sorry I shared that with you one night it was so loud it woke the dog up and no matter how the entire film crew tried to maintain their professional serious tone the shot wasn't without sincere love laughter but Williams didn't just add laughter in the script thanks to him the final was created which was called perfect years later and what was scripted was that he just takes a moment and realizes I'm gone but in true Robin fashion we did like 60 takes we just left the camera rolling and he did something different every single time I remember when he said he stole my line I grabbed Gus's shoulders and I felt him tense up we were like holy cow what a line how did we not think of that the film was a more modest success than Mrs dfire but it collected $225 million and received a lot of positive reviews as well as many nominations and wins among them were the Oscar for best original screenplay and the Golden Globe for best feature film screenplay and of course Robin was not ignored this time he received Universal recognition and a golden statue at and the best supporting actor category was the famous comedian ready for this this might be the one time I'm speechless he could be he proved to himself that his choice was the right one an indicator of this was the phrase that followed quote I want to thank my father up there the man who when I said I wanted to be an actor he said wonderful just have a backup profession like welding and then he raised the statuette above his head as if showing it to his recently deceased father in the meantime we'll move on to the next chapter click on the Subscribe button and the Bell so as not to lose our new videos in the late '90s Robin became a Hollywood Legend he was already over 50 at that time and the actor could only choose the roles he wanted he easily played charming intellectuals and grotesque characters and fit into almost any tone of the film nevertheless he tried to work hard and discover new facets of talent for his viewers during this period Works appeared that are completely different from each other in mood but still fascinating in their individuality in Vincent Wards touching drama What Dreams May Come the actor got the role of a man who goes to another world to meet his family as well as to save the soul of his grief stricken wife keep thinking of me come on with me we always with me well with the people who finish each other's sentences remember us the film became a box office failure and received generally average reviews on the film critics website it earned an average of four out of 10 points they criticize the plot and inconsistency with the original the novel of the same name by Richard Matson but there was also those who appreciated Williams work in Touching philosophical projects so Roger Ebert gave the movie four stars out of four calling it beautiful and breathtaking quote this is a film that even in its imperfect form shows how movies can imagine the unknown can lead our imaginations into wonderful places and it contains heartbreakingly effective performances by Robin Williams and Annabella Sora the famous film critic at it in addition what dreams mayc received two Oscar nominations in the categories best art Direction and best visual effects winning the latter Tom shak's project starring Robin also turned out to be controversial Patch Adams paradoxically was both praised and criticized for the same thing for the humor for the script for the portrayal of the main character which was based on a prototype the real Dr Hunter Patch Adams someone saw Robin's game as an insult to the real Adams and the jokes were mistaken for inappropriate Antics someone saw a person who was able to overcome his demons and help albeit unconventionally people who were on the verge there was also a person who is not afraid to go beyond the boundaries of normality be funny and change existing approaches to his profession well this scene caused a lot of Gossip well I'm happy to see you finally decided to conform more than you know sir among those who did not appreciate the film was Patch Adams himself who was rumored to have told Roger Ebert that he hated this film in an interview with new Renaissance he said after the movie there wasn't a single positive article about our work or me there were dumb stupid meaningless things it made my children cry I would become a funny Doctor imagine how shallow that is relative to who I am Ebert also didn't hold back and called the picture Shameless saying that it made him want to spray the screen with Lysol despite this the film paid off well earning $200 million and was also nominated for two Golden Globe awards including best Motion Picture musical or comedy and best actor Motion Picture musical or comedy for Robin Williams the next two works of the actor were the development of his dramatic talents they touched upon questions of Ethics morality the causes and goals of human existence they did not succeed after the release due to the untimely release they were crushed by Brighter and louder films seasoned with the Entourage of modern technology these Works became a jewel in the actor's career this period will be marked by a Sentimental work Jacob the liar tells the story of Hope in the context of survival in the Nazi occupied Warsaw Ghetto Robin plays the role of a pancake seller Jacob Heim who inadvertently took on a huge burden to become the hope for many of his compatriots having once lied he now has to lie constantly to keep the light on inside his friends and family while working on the film adaptation of the German novel of the same name by yur Becker Hungarian director Peter kasitz took on the task of creating a military drama but from the inside his characters fight not with weapons but with willpower and who would be better suited for one of the main roles if not Robin his jokes and skits have become an appropriate way to diversify a heavy and intense plot the film by Centennial man in which the actor plays a humanized robot became no less life affirming it was a robot looking for himself and his place in this world the film is based on the novel The poetron Man by Isaac azimov and Robert silverberg and the novel The Bicentennial Man by azimov it perfectly conveys the ideas put in by the famous science fiction writer Chris Columbus known to many for family comedies took over the film adaptation that's the kind of warm sincere Entourage movie that turned out to be in the end why did the film fail at the box office grossing $87 million with a budget of $100 million fans of the movie suggest that the Fantastic poem which raises complex moral issues simply came out at the wrong time it was not ambitious and spectacular enough it's not technological enough for a movie about a robot it was too idealistic and fabulous for the viewer the Studio's interference in the marketing of the film also influenced it the Sci-Fi drama was presented and marketed as another eccentric Comedy full of slapstick and jokes led by Williams and the viewer did not get what he came for at all truly if you're willing to take the chance and if and if you feel like it's right and sometimes it is and other times it isn't and you'll know pretty quickly and it's a question if you have the courage to keep going with it or actually and or the intelligence to let it go to go it's not working no [Music] no since the beginning of the new millennium Robin's work has also been interspersed with dramas and comedies the actor did not disdain episodic roles either so in 2000 he played a small role in the TV movie Model Behavior and a year later the holographic Einstein spoke in his voice in Steven Spielberg's fantasy drama AI artificial intelligence but there was an increasing emphasis on serious dramatic even tragic roles on complex ambiguous topics there was less sad smile and nostalgic philosophy in them and the themes of human loneliness violence and guilt were more during this period there were three roles that could be safely called villainous in Robin's filmography and the first of them was the role of Seymour Parish in Mark rik's Thriller 1our photo what happens if an insanely lonely unhappy person becomes obsessed with someone else's happiness let's add here the elements of stalking the personal drama of the main character and a tense vicious plot Williams immediately accepted the lead role as soon as he saw the script the reason for all this is the desire to move away from the image of a comedian with sad eyes and prove himself as a deep character actor I've got to do this movie because it combines both the visuals and this great script I went this is you know really interesting work in order to portray such a complex character he and romanc had to find their own way far from the standard method they eventually found a perfect way to release his energy I'd go blow it up then come back and be very free and be very kind of calm Williams said and they did it the director shared in an interview what it was like to work with the famous comedian I I think you know there's a lot of tension that's created because we know Robin Williams from you know talk shows and the comedies and the standup so we know that he's got this volcanic amount of you know of energy so when he's playing this very repressed restrained character we know he's repressing a volcano and that creates a lot of tension with another actor we may suspect he's you know repressing a hiccup one hour photo was positively reviewed by critics especially for Robins a typical performance and also brought Williams the Saturn award in the best actor category Roger Eber gave the picture 3.5 stars out of four writing that Williams character was quote another of his open-faced smiling Madmen like the killer in insomnia he does this so well you don't have the slightest difficulty accepting him in the role the continuation of the gothic period in the actor's career was the black comedy death to smoochi by Danny DeVito where he shared the main role with Edward Norton the film tells about another real underside of Show Business which does not bypass even the children's Niche DeVito skillfully reveals to the viewer all the dirt and cynicism of the sphere which eventually remain just a business aimed at money laundering presented as a light comedy the film has a second bottom Shady business Vice hypocrisy corruption it's not surprising that Williams did not avoid such a controversial and provocative project his character Randolph rainbow Smiley is a real negative character and if in 1hour photo you want to feel sorry for his character Seymour in the end we see dualism and contradiction in him in the satire of DeVito Robin is a costic cynical hating bastard who hides a lot of internal complexes you are my slave and this is my kingdom Robin conveys a whole range of emotions gradually revealing his character immersing himself in it his looks his voice his facial expressions and his dance of joy in the park each of his scenes is a small Masterpiece how much expression anger negative charm one of the commentators appreciated his performance and it's hard to disagree with this but not everyone appreciated the result of the work critics met the film with extremely mixed reviews and the film became a box office bomb at the box office completely failing Peter Travers of Rolling Stone wrote quote this black comic assault on family entertainment is going to set a lot of teeth on edge if only his deito material were better at this time David stared of the Christian Science monitor called the film a razor sharp satire and the most refreshing ly outrageous movie of the season for this role Williams was even nominated for his first golden raspberry as the worst supporting actor the third villainous film of the year was the dramatic Thriller insomnia by Christopher Nolan the main roles were divided between Williams alpacino and Hillary Swank where Robin got the role of the unsuccessful writer and coldblooded killer Walter Finch the film was a remake of the Norwegian original film but despite its Hollywood origin it has neither sharp Dynamics nor action in a slow hazy ous plot against the background of monotonous in Gray Alaska Robin was able to bring into his character insane features hidden under the external innocuousness the viewer can discern the truth only in the eyes and in a barely noticeable smile Under Pressure you don't always see the wood for the trees you for one should have figured that one out by now Williams himself described these three films in his career as follows for me it's like Picasso's blue period these have been dark movies he asked his agent to find him one film and got three whole projects with really strange bizarre roles and on a movie like 1hour Photo you don't even know how dark it's going to be people come in and think oh it's that nice man and then it becomes creepier and stranger and more disturbing and that's why I think it works because people don't expect it from me he continued and what is the most memorable role of Robin Williams for you write in the comments these roles mentally exhausted the actor worn out by his character Robin began to sink back into the abyss of alcohol he felt this need especially acutely while in set in Alaska he felt lonely and scared again suddenly a thought crept into his head maybe a drink will help when he drank his first beverage he felt wonderful but soon the next thought came it's a problem and you're isolated there was the dullness the external hopelessness the psychological pressure of the film he also had the pain of a departed close friend Christopher reev who died in 2004 some suggested that this was what knocked the actor down no it's more selfish than that it's just literally being afraid and you think oh this will ease the fear and it doesn't what was he afraid of everything it's just a general allaround it's fearfulness and anxiety Williams explained it took only a week for him to realize how stuck he was in alcohol for that first week you lie to yourself and tell yourself you can stop and then your body kicks back and says no stop later and then it took about 3 years and finally you do stop this naturally led to problems at some point he realized that he had reached the edge one of the situations that prompted him to start solving something was the Scandal at the Sharon Stone of charity event which took place in can Williams drank heavily and became a topic of discussion for the paparazzi the intervention of the family helped which pushed the actor to receive treatment at a rehabilitation center in Oregon gradually Robin Williams mask began to fall there yeah you start off initially riffing and kind of being real funny but the weird thing is how can you do a a comic turn without betraying the precepts of group therapy eventually you shed it he recalled the actor's secretary Mara boxum said that quote he decided to take active measures to fight against this for his own well-being and the well-being of his family Williams later said that for 2 years he thought he could handle this problem on his own but he couldn't it's very hard to admit that you need help but when you do it it gets easier he recalled afterwards from then on Robin would constantly attend meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous which helped them hold on despite all the worries he still performed on the show and still joked his Halls were eagerly filled with those who wanted to listen to the witticisms of their favorite comedian yes dad's old men with a colostomy bag and a pitchfork when he wasn't on stage Robin seemed like a completely different person journalists who interviewed him often write about humility mournfulness and Zen demeanor paradoxically here he is on the Jonathan Ross show hyperactive to the point of insanity speaking in all shades of voices and and depicting scenes of internal dialogues but when the cameras and spotlights are not directed at him he seems to be a completely different person and when he's not putting on voices he speaks in a low tremulous barit tone as if on the verge of tears that would work very well if he were delivering a funeral eulogy he seems gentle and kind even tender but the overwhelming impression is one of sadness the guardian journalist described the dialogue with Robin so what was he really like 2 years later the actor returned to the big screens again continuing his dramatic path and shocking critics with his work he felt the need to play these gloomy characters as if revealing a new side of himself sinking deeper and deeper it's the only way to go he said once adding that finding such characters remained a constant problem for him it's hard to do and also hard to go to those places but now I know I can do that just by having the patience there was a point where you have to keep making those big moves I went I've done that and some have worked and a lot haven't the independent film The Final Cut became the debut work for director Omar name and for the actor it was a way to prove himself in a non-standard picture about a possible future where every person has a chip implanted in his brain recording his whole life here Robin played the role of Alan Hackman an editor whose task was to glue the final version of human life at the request of the relatives of the deceased to glue cutting all sins and unwanted frames of the deceased life for the sake of a beautiful and bright final picture after so many years of observing someone's sorrows and joys vices and crimes Allan becomes cynical impartial insensitive he spent all his years observing other people's lives and his work absorbed him so much that he forgot about his own Williams skillfully conveys this pain and the inner conflict of his character oh my God that's me man that's me you take people's lives make lies out of them my daddy is best daddy the movie was was received Ambiguously on aggregator sites it has a rating of 5 out of 10 and the main complaint is the flaw in an initially good idea observing Williams work Roger Ebert wrote there is another Robin Williams a lonely recluse hiding inside the extrovert Williams is able to channel this furtive secretive persona for roles that are far removed from more M Doubtfire and Aladdin's Genie Williams brings this Oddball Outsider to a kind of perfection and Omar names the final cut a moody SCI fiction drama in the same year Williams appeared in another directorial debut this time it was a dramatic comedy by David davney called House of D despite the fact that this role of the feeble-minded good friend of the main character was very easy for him and was highly appreciated by critics the film itself received poor reviews perhaps it was the fact that davney worked on the script for only 6 days perhaps in the absence of directorial experience influenced the results gradually Robin's filmography was filled with more and more ambiguous in contradictory roles this can be considered the image of a travel agency manager who due to a simple deception for profit gets into serious trouble and there was also a TV presenter who discovered the manuscript of a boy who was bullied by his parents as well as a comedian running for president it's hard to call them a failure but they couldn't boast of success either you can see how Robin also tried gave himself to every role but you can also see how tired he was after the release of the comedy runaway Vacation by Barry sonfield in Ebert's words quote Robin Williams demonstrated once again that he's more effective on the screen when he's serious than when he's trying to be funny the most high-profile work of this period was another role of the president this time Theodore Roosevelt in The Comedy Night at the Museum the project led by Sha Levy was based on the children's book of the same name by Croatian illustrator Milan Tren Theodore Roosevelt 26th president of these United States of America At Your Service okay the film was a huge success of the box office becoming the highest grossing film in the first week and grossing $574 million it received a lot of nominations including Saturn Awards MT movie award and National movie award however not all critics shared the massive Delight of the picture but the reviews did not prevent the comedy from getting two sequels Night at the Museum Battle of the Smithsonian and Night at the Museum secret of the Tomb and it was while working on the third film that the actor's health problems began to fully manifest themselves but we will return to this a little later and now Williams was all about work in addition to filming he appeared in the reality show Extreme Makeover home Edition and also unexpectedly became a target for laughter the Kids Choice Awards in addition together with 99 other famous personalities he appeared in a miniature of the documentary The Aristocrats which was dedicated to the American comedian Johnny Carson Robin's attempts to return to the comedy Niche were not a dizzying success Ken kap's license to Ed and Walt Becker's old dogs were criticized by critics although In fairness it must be said that they earned quite well the box office perhaps it's all about the big names on the posters and the hope of Williams fans that their favorite actor is about to surprise them again with an incredible transformation and hilarious jokes but the picture turned out to be mediocre fortunately unlike John Travolta Robin avoided the golden raspberry award the film The World's Greatest Dad directed by Bobcat gowe received much more favor in 2009 initially it was assumed that Robin would get a cameo roll in it but after seeing the script the actor offered himself as the main character the story raises questions of parent child relations in which the actor writer a loser and high school teacher nostalgic about an unfulfilled dream his life changes dramatically after the death of his rebellious teenage son whose demise he uses for his own purposes why don't we do something together tomorrow why does he feel bad yeah no I mean it'd be just fun to do something together you know okay yeah Robin accepted the offer of the role as a favor to the director quote initially I read it as a favor I said listen maybe if I do a cameo it'll help you get it made he recalled in an interview it was one of the few films in recent years that he took up not to pay bills but to help a friend director Bobcat gold and Williams have known each other since their standup days in the 70s and 80s but gold way has never had such massive success therefore Williams help in working on a friend's project was of great importance for the realization of the picture in addition for the actor himself it was a chance to do something new extraordinary and he grabbed on to it Robin was also interested in the role itself unlike that character Lance is not inspirational he's a marginal teacher a marginal father and maybe with a girlfriend a marginal lover it's the idea that everything in his life he's getting by is he a good writer I mean obviously but he's just had one would say bad luck on that level for this picture the actor swept away from the standard habit of improvisation he decided to trust the script and the director's Vision besides it wasn't necessary this story of redemption was too close for Robin I also have someone I trust to go you don't need to add a lot and it's the way you feel like it's when you get afraid you go I got to push this so once you have that Faith you go cool let's see what we can find and you find it within like a much more kind of relaxed environment I mean you don't find yourself going I'm acting now it's much quieter and then you find that kind of weirdly intimate stuff critics appreciated the actor's efforts some consider the picture reflection of the genius of Williams who according to Ebert is quote sometimes better in drama than in comedy and deca ien head from the guardian said that the film was brilliant having starred in a lot of unspeakably sentimental droughts in recent years here he is at last in something clever and thoughtful a dark slightly weird comedy that touches on all sorts of interesting themes but not by movie alone in late 2001 Williams returned to the theater performing a new humorous program Robin Williams live on Broadway which was subsequent quently recorded and shown on HBO in 2009 he presented his oneman show weapons of self-destruction at the Neil Simon Theater which was planned as a tour of 80 American cities but in Florida the actor became ill due to attacks of Suffocation the tour had to be stopped and Robin's health condition made him go to the hospital which ended with an operation to replace the aortic heart valve at the Cleveland Clinic this experience became very traumatic for the actor forcing him to reconsider his attitude to life and death the surgery gives you a different perspective on life all of a sudden you hit there that you're mortal but does it make you appreciate things little things like breath as well as friendships and work and the idea of do you want to put a lot of energy into something where this is going to make a lot of cash the tour eventually ended on December 3rd in New York and on December 8th it was shown on the HBO channel after that he continued acting took part in many comedy programs and annually held the comic contrast campaign to help the homeless to whom he transferred $80 million over 25 years Robin also acted as a public figure supporting women's rights the introduction of benefits for veterans and better social support for poor fellow citizens in addition Williams supported St Jude Children's Research Hospital for several years after the 2010 Canterbury earthquake Robin donated all proceeds from his play weapons of self-destruction to the restoration of Christ Church in New Zealand but in all the turmoil of work another important part of Robin's life was at the edge of the Abyss the marriage with his second wife wife Marsha garus has come to an end they met when the actor was married to Valerie and Marsha was the nanny of his son Zach from his first wife shortly after the dissolution of his marriage with Valerie the couple quickly got married it was rumored that their relationship began during the actor's first marriage but Mara herself denied this the wedding took place on April 30th 1989 and at the time the woman was 6 months pregnant and already in 1991 the couple had a second child who was named Cody Allen Williams but despite her husband's success and having children who needed attention Mara took an active part in her husband's world she worked with Robin as a personal assistant on some of his films including Good morning Vietnam and Dead Poet Society then she became a producer of the films Mrs dfire Patch Adams and Jacob the liar Marsha and Robin eventually formed a production company together called Blue Wolf Productions the marriage lasted 19 years and in 2008 Marsha filed for divorce arguing her decision was insoluble contradictions we may never know what happened in their family it's assumed that they both failed to cope with the period when Robin was struggling with addiction oh God you find yourself getting emotional it breaks through your barrier you've literally cracked the armor and you've got no choice it literally breaks you open and you feel really mortal does the intimation of mortality live with him still totally is it a blessing totally the breakup brought not only an emotional wound but according to information William's second wife demanded a very large sum after to the divorce as moral compensation the divorce agreement made him give up his Napa estate worth $29.9 million his friends noted that the actor began to have depression there was also a new fear to be left without money not to be able to pay bills and although Robin was far from bankruptcy it was still difficult to call this period financially prosperous in addition to the divorce the success at work was also frustrating to cover his needs he increasingly had to agree to projects for the sake of money people ask why did you make old dogs because it pays the bills you're just at a rehab good luck you got to get out of there the actor admitted he didn't mistake them he adds for intelligent scripts you know what you're getting into totally you know they're going to make it Goofy and that's okay after heart surgery he had to slow down doctors forbade Robin to work with the same Force if earlier he considered himself a classic workaholic now the actor has decided to choose roles more thoughtfully slowly in one 2year period I made eight movies at one point the joke was that there's a movie out without you in it you have this idea that you'd better keep working otherwise people will forget and that was dangerous and then you realize no actually if you take a break people might be more interested in you now after the heart surgery I'll take it slow Williams admitted fortunately there was someone to support the person who held his hand was the actress third wife designer Susan Schneider the couple met back in 2007 at that time Robin was married to Marsha according to Susan it happened at the Apple Store I walked in and saw this man and I thought I think that's Robin Williams then on my way out I happened to look at him again and he was smiling at me and something inside me said oh just go over and say hi not knowing what to say the woman asked the actor how he liked the camouflage he was wearing to which Robin being in his repertoire replied with a quip not too good you found me they got married on October 22nd 2011 in St Helena California despite divorces and personal conflicts with his wives the actor always tried to keep in touch with his children he called them his pride and joy and in 2009 on the Today's Show he said he was proud of them in different ways hinting that there were difficulties with children he said quote and am I the world's greatest dad not at all I'm a work in progress but I love them if I had a choice to erase for my life something I would leave all the memories of my children even the memories when they misbehave because it is still extraordinary Robin did work less for a while in 20 11 he took part in the pseudo documentary certifiably Jonathan about comedian Jonathan Winters Roger Ebert noted that Winters quote deserves more than that in 2012 Williams was a guest actor in the role of himself in two FX series Louie and Wilfred Robin returned to the big screens in 2013 with Lee Daniels biographical drama the butler in the story about the fate of the butler who had the opportunity to serve in the White House under eight different presidents Williams got the role of one of these very presidents Dwight David Eisenhower the role was episodic as the plot was aimed at revealing the life of the main character as well as the topic of racial discrimination the film was warmly received by critics was awarded a number of film prizes including the bafta award and the Screen Actor Guild award But ultimately failed at the box office next there were the supporting roles of the good guys in the drama the face of love and the comedy The Big Wedding in the latter he portrayed father Moran as Otti fishki who replaced Ebert as critic said it was quote surprisingly tolerable since quote this is a film in which no one felt forced to do a good job and that's why no one should feel forced to watch it both pictures did not receive huge success and approval barely paid off the budget for production and for many it only caused disappointment in the same 2013 CBS announced the start of filming David E Kelly's comedy series called The Crazy Ones starring Williams as Simon Roberts a father working with his daughter in an advertising agency for Robin it was a chance it was finally his new show in which he could prove himself my father was nominated for an award oh thank God no one's talked about me for a minute I forgot I was here but the reality turned out to be completely different the show did not receive much success and love from the audience and closed at the end of the first season this project became the last major work in Robin's life and critics were divided into two opposite sides someone considered the work a masterpiece one of the best in recent years in the actor's filmography someone called the series strange and unconvincing in his review of the series Boston Herald critic Mark perigard wrote Williams seems tired just like this show already while working on The Crazy Ones colleagues and viewers noticed that the actor had changed he became thinner and grayer his health began to fail him and his son Zachary said that during a meeting with his father the latter seemed worried Susan later shared that during this period Robin's condition rapidly began to deteriorate he did not sleep at night his memory began to fail and anxiety bothered him greatly trying to cope with his condition Robin tried various methods of treatment and therapy he worked with a personal trainer rode a bike and even found a self- hypnosis specialist from Stanford University but there was no result at the time Williams knew something was wrong but couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was do I have Alzheimer's disease do I have dementia I'm schizophrenic he told his doctor at the time in May 2014 a diagnosis was finally made which sort of explained everything that was going on officially it sounded like a neurodegenerative disorder which is often accompanied by trimor slowness stiffness of the limbs and problems with balance it was called Parkinson's disease from that moment on he would start fighting another demon a demon that didn't really exist in parallel the actor did not miss the opportunity to take on a new project and his next work will be a kind of disturbing Omen The Angriest Man in Brooklyn tells the story of a man who has only a few hours left to live did Robin ask himself the main question that is voiced in the picture in an interview when he was asked what he would do if he had only 90 minutes left Robin replied that he would just be with his children and his wife wife who made his life amazing it didn't work out the picture received a lot of negative reviews and was released in a limited edition it was Williams last work released during his lifetime the melancholic drama Boulevard already released Post humously in the person of Robin's hero raised questions about the meaning of life the inner struggle of the main character depression loneliness unwillingness to live that life and about accepting who you really are was this the actor's way of reflecting on his own life we probably won't know anymore the bright spot of the last year was the third part of the family Comedy Night at the Museum secret of the Tomb where Robin appeared in the same image of President Theodore Roosevelt who was loved by fans of the franchise despite the fact that many called the picture a passing comedy Robin's game could not be ignored his work has been called Soulful and warm eclipsing both antagonists and protagonists fans of the show saw special symbolism in the episode of Robin's hero saying goodbye to friends in a farewell bow and turning Roosevelt into to a wax statue smile my boy it's [Music] Sunrise his character a bold gun toing Teddy Roosevelt had grown into what Mr Levy now calls the soul of the franchise a presidential father figure who more or less keeps in line the Rowdy cavemen Gladiators dinosaurs and cowboys who otherwise populate the film the New York Times wrote about the actor's role and this is especially important considering how important it was for Robin himself to work on the picture work in general and the opportunity to give the audience kind Smiles already during the filming of Night at the Museum secret of the Tomb his colleagues noted the difficulties he had to work with by the time the actor got to Vancouver where he was working on the film he had lost a lot of weight his motor disorders were becoming more difficult to hide makeup artist Sher mins who worked with him during filming recalled that the star did every day Crying In Her Arms attempts to support the actor were unsuccessful he just cried and said I can't Sherry I don't know how anymore I don't know how to be funny she recalled sha Levy confirmed the words of the makeup artist quote I would say a month into the shoot it was clear to me it was clear to all of us on said that something was going on with Robin said Levy it became increasingly difficult for the actor to memorize lines look for the right words and combine them with performance the director claimed that he saw how the actor's morale was collapsing how his faith in himself was being undermined when Robin would call me at 10 at night at 2: in the morning at 4: in the morning saying is it usable is any of this usable do I suck what's going on I would reassure him I said you are still you I know it the world knows it you just need to remember that Susan Schneider told years later how difficult it was for her husband during this period my husband husband had unknowingly been battling a deadly disease nearly every region of his brain was under attack he experienced himself disintegrating she said he called her while working on the film in a panic attack Robin lamented that he couldn't remember a single line and it was destroying him in his last interview we see a tired calm man a man who no longer blows up the audience and doesn't try to impress sure but it's like I CU it was it was a it was a tough job for me death was was able to open the veil of mystery of his condition less than 4 months before the premiere of the picture on August 11th 2014 Robin left this world at his home in San Francisco he left of his own accord toxicology reports showed that Williams had anti-depressant caffeine and a medication used to treat Parkinson's disease in his body at the autopsy it turned out that the actor had undiagnosed dementia with Louis bodies Dr Bruce Miller director of the center for memory and aging at the University of California San Francisco and distinguished professor of Neurology explains quote dementia with Ley bodies is a devastating disease it increases anxiety self-doubt and causes delusions this is confirmed by the actor's Behavior he got very frustrated Levy said I remember him saying to me I'm not me anymore I don't know what's going on I'm not me anymore his mind was not firing at the same speed that spark was diminished The Joy was sometimes not there another close friend producer David E Kelly is seen saying there was something eroding within him we will pay tribute to an incredible and talented man who despite all the difficulties of life has become a symbol and hope for many people in this world his films are still being rewatched by families and quotes with thoughts about life and death appear in the top search queries when I die dance on My Grave and water the flowers that drink themselves do what you want just don't clone me because my clone will never be the same as me could prolonged depression have influenced Robin's decision is there any reason to believe that the actor could have returned to Old Habits which pushed him to such a tragic ending our team studied the actor's last days in detail in
