[Music] hello I'm Marty Stewart welcome to the legendary Ryman Auditorium and welcome to time last Opry video classics now prepare yourself for something special because in this collection called duets we go back to the 60s and 70s to celebrate country's greatest male female vocal duos whether these musical partners were married just friends or something in between it's exciting to watch two stars share their feelings in a song all you have to do is say the name is George and Tammy Conway and Loretta Johnny and June Porter and Dolly and you know you're in for some first-rate romantic drama the most successful singing team was Conway Twitty Loretta Lynn who scored five number-one hits in the 70s and won the CMA Vocal Duo award four years in a row here they really turn up the heat with their first hit after the fire is good Conway and Loretta's singing it was so passionate you could feel the love between them they remained close friends throughout their entire careers now the relationship between George Jones and Tammy Wynette sometimes resembled a soap opera providing plenty of material for their duets George co-wrote were gonna hold on doing an especially difficult stretch in their marriage and the ceremony actually reenacts their wedding vows as a musical event George also appears with Melba Montgomery to perform we must have been out of our minds now they first recorded together in the 60s and many fans consider Melba to be the best of George's many singing partners June Carter also shows up with two different partners you'll see her and her husband Johnny Cash knocked the crowd did with a high-energy version of Jackson and June who laid her name as a country comedian also has a ball with Don Gibson on a light-hearted duet of his song oh lonesome me now Patsy Cline never recorded any duets but here she joins Bobby Lord on the standard I'm the one who loves you Bobby Lord had a long career in country but is best known for the TV show he hosted in the mid-60s in fact some of the footage you see in this series is drawn from the Bobby Lords show one of those performances is Bill Phillips singing his biggest hit put it off until tomorrow Ruby right the daughter of Johnny Wright and Kitty wills Dolly Parton wrote that song in 1966 right before she teamed up with Porter Wagner to form one of the greatest singing partnerships of them all their performance of holding on to nothing comes from 1967 not long after dolly joined Porter's popular TV show if teardrops her pennies while that one's from 1973 the year Dolly's solo career really began to take off dolly eventually left Porter but she continued to record hit duets with singers like Kenny Rogers Ricky van Shelton and Vince Gill so get ready to enjoy these legendary vocal duos now when these country stars sing about love they remind us of our own relationships and that makes this the perfect collection to share with someone special in your life you June bless your heart you
