how to give an invitation [Music] one of country music's most dazzling ambassadors porter joined the grand ole opry in 1957. porter is an icon when i was a child i was totally amazed by his glitz i was the first person to wear him with rhinestones and all the glitter from his signature suits to his heartfelt songs the green green grass the great wagon master proved the power of television in 1960 when he launched the porter wagoner show the show created new stars and established porter as country music's consummate entertainer one of the highlights of my career was getting to be on the port wagner show still after all these years he still got the fire and the love for the music and for the business porter's passion burns even brighter and a new cutting edge album i think it's the best album i've ever done produced by friend and fellow opry star marty stewart wagon master makes the boldest statement of porter's career and my days are kind of foggy and my nights are dreamy too it just tells the story about parkview and i love the song because uh johnny cash wrote it they're committed to park view with a place in the country music hall of fame the wagon master is truly a favorites it's a song i pulled the tag off of one of porter's cleaning tags off of one of his rhinestone suits and wrote this on his bus right after i started with him way back when back in what was his 60s yeah and like right after well it was a 66 67 i started with porter and it was about that time that i wrote the code of many colors you remember that one so this is where i wrote it and that's on your tag at the dolly museum up in hollywood you wanna do the code we'll do this to all the special mamas out [Music] i there wandering once again back to the seasons of my youth and i recall a boxer eggs someone gave us and how my mama put the rags to use now there were ranks of many colors but every piece was small and i didn't have a coat and it was way down in the fall mama sewed the wrecks together so i never pieced with love she made my coat of many colors that i was so proud of while mama's so she told a story from the bible she had read about a coat of many colors joseph wore and then she said i hope this coat will bring you good luck and happiness and i just couldn't wait to wear it and mama blessed it with the kiss my coat of many colors that my mama made for me made only from wrecks but i wore it so proudly and although we had no money i was rich as i could be in my coat of many colors mama made for me so it patches on my britches holding both my shoes in my coat of many colors well i hurried off to school just to find the others laughing and making fun of me in my coat of many colors mama made for me and oh i couldn't understand that cause i felt i was rich and i told him of the love mama sold in every stitch i even told them all the story mama told me while she sewed and why my coat of many colors was worth more than all their clothes they didn't understand it and i tried to make them see one is only poor only if they choose to be it's true we had no money but i was rich as i could be in my coat of many colors mama made for me cause she made it just for me florida wagoner joins marty stewart and his fabulous superlatives on the opry stage and there's a surprise reunion still ahead so stay tuned to grand ole opry live where are we right home [Music] um [Music] how in the world can the poor man eat [Applause] here's a song i wrote i hope you all will enjoy it it's titled i found the man it is on a sunday morning when i found him he was standing all alone staring into space he looked like a man that had lived a hard life and the herd of it showed on his face hunger for food showed through his loose clothes that you could tell were once tailored to pit and a distant look was in his eyes as though we'd just seen hell's fiery pits when i first spoke to him [Music] it seemed like he didn't hear the sound and i thought he might be deaf but then he turned around [Music] acted like he wanted to say something but couldn't speak i took him by the arm said would you like to talk to me and his younger voice so shaky soft and low said you look like an old friend of mine [Music] someone from long long ago then i said there's a little place not too far away from here where they sing and pray and they say that god will answer prayers but i can't seem to find it by myself would you walk with me over there and as we walk toward the church house which stop along the way just listen to the church bells ring out god's holy day and when we walked into that sacred place i felt i was all alone with god but my friend had gone away then when i knelt to pray it was all so plain to see that the friend i'd been talking to was my own soul inside of me and for the first time i found myself inside with god's helping hand the master of the universe thank you for finding this man all right okay [Applause] thank you all so much please make welcome the beautiful lady that i've introduced so many times that but i always love to introduce her because she's a beautiful lady and one of my best friends today please make her
