before we begin today I would like to point out that this video is for educational purposes only you should never rip movies you should pay for them obviously give the creators the the compensation they deserve for the money they spent on the [Music] work hey what's up guys I'm J C I'm the street and today I couldn't really think of anything to do I have been having that problem recently I've got a new we site that I'm working on but I really can't think of a lot of new videos to be making at least in terms of technology so remember if there's any questions you guys have feel free to leave them in the comments section below and if there's ever a video that helps you remember to click the like button but today I thought I would share with you all how to use VLC media player to rip DVDs onto your computer all right let's say that I have a Stargate directed DVD movie here the Arc of Truth and I want to watch the Stargate DVD on my Nexus however uh-oh my Nexus does not have a DVD player because nobody's made a tablet with a DVD player cuz that would be really stupid because you can't really move the DVD player while it's on and it's kind of hard not to move a tablet while you're using it so uh you know this would be a completely ethical use of ripping DVDs if you ask how could I rip DVDs that wouldn't be for an illegal purpose well you know sometimes I want to watch DVD on my Nexus so you can rip the DVD onto a file then upload the file to your your tablets or or your laptop or you can um you know your iPod or whatever you want to do with it as long as you were not sharing it with others so here I'm sure I'm going to get blasted for copyright I'm surprised I don't get blasted for copyright with this even though this is just a black rectangle um but this I'm definitely going to get blasted for copyright with but yeah shout out Stargate Stargate t-shirt Stargate DVD I'm a Stargate fan so the first thing we're going to do is take the DVD out of the case and we're going to put it in the computer all righty so that is in the computer now we will cut to the desktop so here we are at my desktop Hey look it's Atlantis from Stargate uh big whoop I really need to I take pictures to use my desktop background all the time I really need to use one of my own pictures as my desktop background but yeah we're going to go ahead and start so as you can see we've got in the drive we've got D your arm Drive Stargate and uh yeah you can see here we've got the menu for the DVD now what we're going to do is we're going to stop playback stop playback because the menu for the DVD is not what we want to rip obviously you can rip a video of the menu of your DVD if you do it the wrong way so what we're going to do is we're going to click media and this is on Windows uh you might have to click file or media depending on you know you might have to work with this if you're on Linux or Mac and I apologize I mean I usually I do this stuff on Linux but I thought it would be useful to more people if I did it on Windows cuz cuz more people use Windows than Linux um but yes you can do this on Linux 2 or Mac OS uh so you click media Andor file or whatever the equivalent of that button is you click open dis this you know open dis uh so what's going to happen now is you'll see dis selection you select DVD obviously if you're using a DVD you can also do this with Blu-rays audio CDs whatever that thing is now you see that VC has an option to disable dis menus and that's sort of what we want to do uh but we're not exactly going to to use that option right now that's just uh that basically does the same thing we're about to do manually so as you can see we've got our disc device I've only got one drive on my computer at the moment uh so that's the only one there but this starting position is what we want to take a look at now right now look at this title is at zero Chapters at zero so if I click play guess where it's going to start at and for some reason maybe I have to manually click play all right so uh when when both of those numbers were at zero it automatically starts at the menu screen now let's stop playback and let's do that again this time click open dis change title to one so we've got starting position is now title one chapter zero and we click play and then play again all right and now you see I think we've got we could play again yes we've got the movie as you can see don't want to show you too much of the movie cuz once again I'll don't get blasted for copyright like you wouldn't believe but um yeah we've got the entire movie here so basically why we did that was because you want to make sure that you rip the movie and not like a bonus feature or the menu or something so you might have to play around with title you might have to play around with chapter chapter should usually stay at zero but the title you might have to play around with but you want to keep clicking open media and changing your starting position until you get it to start once again at the beginning of the movie which I bet I froze it nope there we go it's good once you got that you might want to write it down or if you can remember things for more than two seconds then you should be good starting position title one chapter zero so keep those numbers in mind and now we're going to click media and we are going to click let's try convert and save so we're going to here we've got open media and we're going to go over to dis just like before and just like before we're going to change title to one chapter zero uh whatever combination worked to get your movie to play That's what you're going to use here and then you're going to click instead of play you're going to click convert slave now we're going to get a new window that says convert and basically I mean it's going to transcode your DVD into whatever format you want it to uh which is nice and handy there's a lot of these that come with it video for YouTube HD is one that generally works and another one that generally works is MP4 format cuz that's kind of universal um except for proprietary uh video editors for some reason I don't know why so you're going to for profile I would do like either MP4 or like yeah video for YouTube HD or video for Android um HD or you can pick whatever you want you you've got like iPod you've got um Avi compatible players imp 4 uh for TVs you know whatever you want um just pick whatever profile will work for you then you're going to click browse now this is a common mistake clicking start without selecting a destination file it just won't do anything it won't give you an error if you don't select a destination file it'll just sit there after you click Start um so yeah you're going to want to click browse here and I'm going to save this to like my going to save it to my videos so I'll go to Jacob videos and as you can see these are my videos so I will put Arc of Truth and start and now as you can see uh I already had the folder open and we've got a new file here called Arc of Truth uh right there as you can see Zero bytes right now cuz we haven't really started dumping yet but as you can see we're now going uh second by second um going through the movies all righty so as you can see we are just about done here we are just finishing up the last few seconds all right so as you can see we now have a video file in our videos folder called arof truth. MP4 and if we open that up you will see Stargate uh yeah the Arc of Truth so that was pretty much how to yeah rip a DVD onto your computer using VC so yeah guys hope that was helpful to you remember to comment and like uh and if you have any questions let me know I'm Jacob Calin I'm the street and I will see you later see you [Music] [Music]
