Ridiculous "Upgrades" to a Vintage 1962 Econoline named "GAIL the SNAIL!" Jennifer Sugint- NNKH

[Music] [Music] oh [Music] we are in Bullhead City Arizona at the Davis Campground and today I am going to do something I've always wanted to do but never had the canvas or the permission to do so I am going to paint a mural on Gail the snail now I am by no no means an artist but I do have an idea that might breathe a little more life into her Chris did give me permission to do it as you can see the paint's already pretty weathered and I'm sorry to all you eoline enthusiasts who think I shouldn't be painting the side of the van but it's going to bring us some joy and bring a little more excitement to our trip so let's get to it we are currently standing in Arizona and here's the Colorado River right across the way Nevada if you you look over there in the distance that is loftland it's like a mini Las Vegas Chris and I just love it there Gus is hanging out too Chris is over there doing his thing I might need your help with this artwork Gus it might end up looking like you did it well you draw him if only I could I'm more of a paint by numbers kind of gal we already gave her a quick bath to take some of the oxidation off so uh let's give it a go hopefully the paint sticks Chris are you sure it's your last chance to call it off yeah let's do it here we go going on like butter trying to channel my inner Bob Ross right now because he said there's no mistakes only happy accidents so today let's have a happy accident and see what we can make out of it [Music] oops [Music] he [Music] so I finished the base I just came in to take a quick break for lunch me and Gus just had lunch guys all right peace out Chris an ebike ride he's on his way back I am about to do my happy Cactus and I hope I don't ruin it uh but Bob says I can't so I'm going to go for it I have to do the cactus and the snail and maybe some some fontage and then uh she should be done it's getting warm out the sun is beating down but I'm going to get back out there and finish up oh there he is that's awesome welc you still taking break what do you think it looks amazing I'm about to do the cactus the the Happy Tree it looks so cool I love it it seriously looks amazing thanks I think it's up my nose in my eyes trying to keep moving so that I don't eat them we are eating bugs bugs for dinner tonight guys they not bothering you are they buddy oh yeah they are which way you want to go said she just got that that scooter a few days ago and she's she's really putting the scooter through it he was very relieved uh to hear the news though cuz you know the sun's going down and she's still up there yeah we're going to take Gail over there on her way out just make sure that she got down the hill okay cuz I don't I think uh his ability to go up and find her I don't think he's able to there's the little slug wagon you thought the riding was sloppy that looks perfect from here and from even up close I love it oh my gosh what did I do to our bed he's going to be quite the spectacle going down the road no but seriously I think I want to do a cleaner out line here and maybe even around the well the red I don't mind being a little sloppy but I think I want to clean up the the black it's a little drip I'll clean it up I'm surprised that oilbased dried so quick what' you say looked in my mirror I was like great now we look like a circus act going down the road what did sounded like marbles were kicking around in there so we stopped pulled off really nice Scenic spot there's a cop that just drove by oh really yeah we didn't stop and what's loose the uh distributor was was I could spin it by hand so it Advanced the timing on its own and we're going to check that now there's a metal tab in here I'm trying to clean the crud off so I can see the timing marks you see it yeah that thing see it says 0 6 six oh yeah so now I have to find a mark on the on the crank here there it is I need a marker to like Mark it with something so I can see it when it's spinning over do you want my eyeliner uh what color is it black maybe yeah it's windy out in this town what well I guess I want to take a little dab of your orange paint that's it little dab will do you so now that orange Mark is our top dead center all right I can see the mark yes so right now we're at 14° base timing with the vacuum disconnected at idle I'm going to twist this this RB it to the right now and it's going to move the little orange dot over this six right there that's 6° y now let's see if this is ported vacuum we shouldn't have any vacuum we don't but I'm going to hook this up here we got exhaust leak down there too sorry I'm going to take this off here and now this should change the timing and Advance it at the vacuum advance is working mhm you got smoothed out like that so that's operating fine and uh now we just got to lock it down we're good to go maybe turn the timing up or the idle up touch I mean it was more responsive with the 14° base timing but it was pinging we don't want to blow her up wait you said it might be slower now yeah yeah it might be slower yeah how much slower can we go I mean it's going to have probably a little bit less power we'll see right there is the distributor bolt so I was able to tighten that down now we got a good turn out of it and uh she's not going to be spinning [Music] listen that idle so far so smooth do the power test here let's get over this bank all right oh yeah running good no pinging there's still rattle there there's there's rattles everywhere yeah the arm in there's rattling but the Ping is gone oh boy got to hit the bush now we're going to slide off to we'll just scrap with the I beam the axle [Music] here we're off roing in Gale we're trying to find a spot to shine her up well you guys can't really see how steep this is but this little divot right here has dictated where we stop she's not going to go over that so I think we're just going to bring her right over here on this little gravel pad never mind we're going to find another spot Chris is like a dog looking for a spot to take a leak very limited this rig I don't know she's [Music] weird you really think we can make it up that no probably not no I don't think so either you should try though oh never mind it looks a little steep at the top guys Crystal has the off-road games in mind he thinks the kale the nail is an off-road vehicle push to the limits to the [Music] Limit found a different way up this looks more our speed yeah well Goldilocks over here from the Three Bears uh he said this spot's no good either we got to find the one that is just right yeah we want to get a nice breeze get on top of the Mesa so we're going to go back to a spot we know of these these rocky roads are just too rough we're looking for Sandy roads light [Music] sand spectacular View Chris that's good hey there partner is this one just right oh yeah this should be the spot we're going to spend a couple of hours here shining her up it does not hurt to have a view like [Music] that [Music] now before we came out on this adventure Derek from Vice scrip garage was kind enough to send us some of his magic shine juice so we could polish Gail up we shipped it on out here via UPS and they sent it to Jose on the dock we don't know Jose and we don't know where the dock is well fortunately we were able to track down the package and we got the juice we're going to finally shine her up today and see how she looks we're going to wipe it down with a wet Taw to get rid of some of the bugs and dust but uh you might want to do a more thorough job at home but hey we're on the road so anything goes shine juice seals rust and paint easy wipe on application good work up there more that's probably pretty good oh yeah it's so Dad the sun's not out now you got this big old cloud blocking the shine soak on up going to lock in that Rus patina all those guys watching right now that hate patina are saying oh you're just lazy you don't know how to do a paint job cussing at the screen I really like the way it looks what do you think I love it as long as we don't get covered in DK going down this hill well we will but with how Breezy and hot and sunny it's going to be well Sunny it will be yeah normally you want to let this dry like a day before taking it out on Dusty roads but we're going for that textured look and time ain't on our side right now we got to get to Vegas oh yeah she's going to shine like the top of the Chrysler Building why am I talking like that I all of a sudden have an accent well you can see our reflection in here now I think it's looking pretty good preservation over restoration are snails and slugs the same creature but one has a shell I don't think so I think they might be she kind of looks like she could enter a bodybuilding competition don't you think you how they like oil themselves all up oh yeah well it should dry to more of a a matte finish since it wasn't a shiny paint to begin with but yeah looking great anything is better than it was now that is one shiny snail kind of reminds me of a mullet we got a party in the front business in the back or it's the other way around but you know what I'm saying you know something about being able to take these trips and do these things that Chris and I do makes me feel so patriotic we're out here in the desert polishing this lovely turd no but it just makes me so proud to be an American and I always end up feeling the need to sing some sort of patriotic song song so in the spirit of America here goes my country te of the sweet land of liberty of
