perfect professional record of 31-0 his two-handed punching power has earned him 27 kos and tonight he stands on the threshold of greatness ladies and gentlemen from brooklyn new york the number one heavyweight challenger in the world ready big daddy [Applause] and his opponent across the ring fighting out of the blue corner wearing red with black trim and weighing an even 205 pounds he's also a us olympian a bronze medalist from the great team of 1984. he was the first of that team to win a world title as a professional his record now stands at 28-0 scoring 22 knockouts and capturing two world championships tonight he is appearing in his 11th world title belt defending his heavyweight championship for the fourth time ladies and gentlemen from atlanta georgia presenting the undefeated fight expected to be action filled lou duva and rock newman got into a little sparring before the fight as they were going through some of the announcements with michael buffer our camera didn't catch it but they were quickly separated newman the instigator and here we go scheduled for 12. the champ in red the challenger in white [Music] ball with a large reach advantage you wonder if holyfield thinks this is a little like buster an out-of-shape fighter is reddick out of shape or for him at least out of shape wild left by bow [Music] big left by holyfield going right after him little sign of concern [Applause] [Music] bo would be wise to use the jab to keep him away because holyfield wants to stay close [Applause] [Music] [Applause] you get the feeling holyfield thinks he can end it just as quickly as bo thinks he can [Applause] [Music] a three punch combination that didn't land that cleanly [Applause] holyfield's just happy he has a guy who can keep up with him now hasn't had one of come on at this pace there is little chance for 12 rounds let's go somebody will land [Music] about halfway through the second much like the first very busy [Applause] through a lot of punches in the before the bell okay cortez thought about breaking him up for a moment and then got out of the way [Applause] cortez really at this point lost some control he should just get out of the way let him fight they've proven that's what they're here for [Music] round three [Applause] the champion read the challenger in white first round goes to holyfield second round a tougher call [Applause] oh a big right by the champ [Applause] beau backs him off [Applause] evander moore spring to his step as is usually the case [Applause] holyfield doesn't appear to be hurt just taking some blows both guys have shown exemplary chins in their past can take a lot of punches [Music] lands [Applause] wow [Applause] uppercut as they broke under a minute in the third little more leaning this round but still plenty of punches those look livelier holyfield a bit winded rested for a good 45 in the middle of the round wants to end it strong [Music] fighters with more experience wait to the end of every round for their big blasts holyfield's definitely a veteran nice left close taking punishment [Applause] get it up all right bring it up [Music] [Applause] under 10 left [Applause] oh a little bit of swelling ready holyfield getting the better of the exchange good left another good left he doubled up on it twice [Music] all right bo's right's been in strength to this point he's come over the top a couple holyfield controlled the first round and now boating off of the right hand and mixing it up nicely on the champ oh [Applause] holyfield's uppercut is substantial given the opportunity haven't seen much of it yet oh my god what the heck coming in reddick 30 pounds heavier than evander [Applause] that's where the leaning can take its toll after a few rounds all right that didn't land cleanly the champion in the red riddick bow in the white front scheduled 12 rounders more than halfway through round four [Applause] holyfield landed a solid right in the first couple of rounds wild punches both fighters now throwing less punches picking their spots that's expected the adrenaline really flowing there's been a long wait before either came out into the ring holyfield lands with the left bow 31-0 challenger ridicule white red friend joel cortez has been busier than he wanted beau comes out taking punches from holyfield who lands a big left and another right [Applause] holyfield has the spring back in his step round three and four more resting rounds for the [Applause] champions league [Applause] almost halfway through the fifth [Applause] you knew the pace would slow heavyweights can just not keep that up for that long they're going in spurts left by holyfield and beau trying to ward him off missed holyfield landed with a right and moves in there's an uppercut we've seen little of but expected more of [Applause] but you almost know he's pleading for him to throw it more uppercuts can be dangerous though you'll leave yourself open if you miss [Applause] a right to the body by the challenger under 45 left [Music] [Applause] pretty even fight to this point the only clear round going to holyfield in the first a lot of talk before the fight of a split decision the champion usually gets the call on a split decision they have in the past at least this round has seen a lot of resting by redick bow just like holyfield in the preceding round so this round goes more toward the champion [Applause] these guys just run out of gas okay you see he's running out of gas now look you see your jab is working good for you all you got to do is keep it going get him in the jab and then go with your right hand you got to use that jab and keep your left hand high coming back he's slow down considering that jab is working good he can't get off this guy's dying out there keeping him off and evander goes right to the jab again that was seen as bose screen [Applause] right by holyfield and beau countered with one of his own [Applause] these are usually holy fields rounds riddick hasn't seen many rounds past the sixth in his career 17 of his first 22 fights ended by the fifth so this foreign territory for the challenger in many respects [Applause] let's go come that ended the night for evander holyfield bow coming out saying it was a big round for him and again newman doing a lot of the talking for riddick bowe as far as predictions go left right caught the champion and now riddick with a big uppercut holyfield taking punishment like he hasn't seen since the fourth evander in the red trunks swelling over the right eye in for the fight of his life and let's go beau begins again [Applause] a left flesh to holyfield's face [Applause] this is as evenly matched as predicted pick them at one point not since 1962 we had a heavyweight title fight that was over the left eye to the side he's also got a slit on his nose bow is fairly clean at least from this angle nine okay not breathing that heavy straight to the eye took little time to react here we go to the ninth it's really been what we thought it would be a wild swing by holyfield from the left side come on [Applause] if bo can open up a cut early it could be a factor [Applause] both corners think they're winning this fight and it's not hype they really believe it most fans are probably cut down the middle [Music] the champ with an overhand right to gain some kind of semblance of what's riddick bow hamming it up for the camera in between rounds serious as the round begins holyfield in trouble hanging on for his life bo trying to finish him off holyfield may have saved himself beau is really going after him did beau punch himself out did he punch himself out and here comes holyfield back that the biggest punch of the fight [Applause] not even over yet [Applause] we'll see how big
