A "global" impact that will last for generations? Why the need to exaggerate?
U.S. government agencies didn't sponsor that guy's project because it would be a waste of money. The amount of leakage is not high enough to expect that there would be a significant impact as far away as America. And the kind of people who believe it is dangerous are the kind of people who wouldn't trust government-funded science anyway.
Mostly reasonable, but as well as what /u/paburon pointed out, I'm sure I heard the reporter say that regarding fishing off Fukushima Daiichi, they don't know when or if the fish will be safe to eat, then he points out that Japan's 100 Becquerels/kg of fish are the strictest in the world, then the fisherman says they only occasionally catch fish over that limit.
