Looks like paint and shellac over a very, very old piece. I'll finish with sanding. I figured out where these damages came from. The top was cut flush while still attached to the body. I'll have to repair the damages, then give it a new top. Since this top is solid wood, I can make great use of it in the future. I'll use this for the new top. It's from my last video! I'll come back for you, buddy. First I'll address these damages. Now for that new top. I want a flat base, so I'll get rid of the skirt and legs. There's a diagonal nail that I need to dig out. Now that I have a flat base, I'm going to make new legs. Leftover pieces of a table top. I quickly made this 45 degree jig. Now a skirt. I'm using the original top to make shelf space on the legs. There must have been a door here, but it's missing. Skewer and some glue. I'm using plywood to make the sides and back cleaner. I want to make a wine rack for this space. Salvaged drawer parts. I'm using gel stain in Dark Walnut. Two days later, the stain feels fully dry and ready for wax. Existing hardware holes were 3" spacing, so I found these that fit. And we are done. I received this canvas from Tailored Canvases - the sponsor of this video. They offer customizable canvases that you can personalize to fit perfectly in any room or for any occasion. They have a big selection of templates to choose from and you can make any adjustments that you want. Once your canvas design is ready, you get an email with a digital mock-up that you can either approve or request revisions for before they print and ship it out to you. Their canvases are 100% handmade in the US and I've got to say the quality is really impressive. You can use code Andy15 for 15% off on your entire order.
