hi everyone welcome back to Tim's creative corner and today I'm gonna work on a cosmic galactic sort of resin pour and this will be back surface and then I'm gonna pour in some nebula bright colors and add a little bit of stars and of course some sparkle in there I've noticed that almost all of these have sold out at the gallery I'm in so it's time to create some more and I thought I'd bring you along for the journey so let's get started already so I just wanna forewarn you that this is a little bit of a lengthy video because this cosmic scape has three different resin layers and so I just wanted to let you know in case you want to fast-forward through any of it so I'm starting with a 12 by 12 cradle board that I have treated with wood sealer and I'm applying acrylic black paint don't worry all the supplies will be listed with links if available in the description below now I'm taking some general-purpose scotch masking tape and I'm just taping off my back so that when I pour the resin it doesn't seep on to the back of my board I use this tongue depressor stick to seal the tape and you just burnish it rub it and that will help create a seal so that your resin doesn't seep under and I trim it up and we're ready to get going so this lazy susan is like one of my favorite things in the studio because I love to be able to twirl and move my art as I'm working the resin and the heat gun so how do you recommend looking for one of these I'll put a link below if I can find it on Amazon for you [Music] now I'm going to take some golden titanium white paint and I've got this thick bristle brush I'm just gonna dab it into the paint and then kind of flick it with my finger over the surface to create kind of a starry effect in the background these TCP measuring cups are amazing because they have different ratios and so when you're mixing your resin you can do one two one two two one three two one they're great and they're reusable so I've got my resin mixed and today I'm working with art resin and don't forget your respirator you don't always need it it depends on your sensitivity but when I'm heating up a project a lot then it emits fumes no matter how safe the resin is and so I wear a respirator after I get all my resin poured out I just use my hands and I smooth it all over my surface including the sides and then you'll see that I have double gloved and that's one really great tip because you're gonna just pull one glove off and you're still ready to go and work with your tools after I have smooth out my resin all over the surface I'm just going in with my little culinary torch and popping all those bubbles that occur when you stir in mixture resin now with the resin that I have reserved I began pouring them into small little one ounce mixing cups and begin adding my pigments to them and I've got a variety of powdered mica pigments and liquid epoxy pigments and I'm just picking colors that I think would look good in a bright kind of nebulae galaxies pour and that includes some black no two pieces are alike when you're working in a fluid medium and I love that because I love to change and experiment with different styles and different ways of laying my resin down and that's what I'm doing in this one I am thinking about this as I'm drizzling my resin pigment across the middle and I'm thinking ahead about how it might look as I blow it out with the heat gun so just experiment and have fun and let this be a creative playtime one of the things I do love about artresin is that you do have such a long work time because I don't want to have to worry about my resin curing in like 20 minutes with art resin I usually get like 45 minutes to an hour depending on the climate and the heat but yeah I had really long fun time of creating this piece before I had to worry about it's starting to set up and cure which is really great when you're just in that creative mood and you don't want to feel rushed [Music] and now going in with my heat gun you can see that I'm just blowing the colors and pigments out and trying to get an idea of how this is going to look before I continue moving in with more pigment and color and getting this first layer complete I've had people ask me about my heat gun this is my second heat gun and I love it and it's really reasonable it has a variable twisting temperature control which is amazing when you're working with resin because you don't always just want it really hot sometimes you want it cooler so your resins not setting up so quick so yeah don't I check out that heat gun none of this is sponsored by any of these products they're just things that I use and love in my studio [Music] by layering colors and mica powders and pigments over each other that's where you really start to get some of those cool effects like the lacing and the cell work and as you fold the colors in and over each other with your heat gun it really creates depth and dimension and you will see some awesome some results in the special effects that you got and it really depends on the kind of pigment you're using but you can see when I get toward the end the close-ups of this and I hope you'll be able to tell that the layers the depth and all of the cool little intricate designs that come out when you layer and work your pigments this way [Music] [Music] you can see that I just keep adding color and working in layers just trying to decide what I like compositionally and I won't stop playing with this until I have to because my resin setting up I really have a hard time letting go I just want to keep working it until I get to where I can stop and say okay that's a good first layer let it cure and move on to a second layer so that's why you might want to fast-forward if you're getting bored with this because this is still just the first layer of resin and pigment that I'm gonna put on this piece [Music] [Music] sometimes I'm not even putting pigment down in this case I'm using some clear resin so that I can help separate my colors and blend them a little more so always keep a little bit of clear resin on reserve so that you can add in a new color if you need to or if you need some more clear to just lay into your piece you have that ability to do so [Music] [Music] wow that was a long work session on that first layer so it's this is what it looks like you can see some of the cells and some of the cool lacing effects in there so now it's time to put it away to cure and then I'll get ready to pour my second layer [Music] and here's that same cup I used the next day after my resins cured I left a popsicle stick in and then I can just pull that leftover resin out and reuse my same cup that was a tip that I learned a long time ago from artists til death so go check them out if you haven't lots of good information there now I'm just adding in some more stars onto my second layer with that same acrylic paint and adding a little bit of glitter glue just to give them a teeny bit of sparkle now taking some clear resin I'm just gonna coat the colored part of my cosmic pour with clear I've already reserved some clear in two cups to add some color pigment to and I'm just going to spread it over the parts that have the color because I want to retain some of the work I've done before and I don't want to all cover it up with new color and then I've taken this counterculture really intense deep blue because I thought maybe I'd look cool if it wasn't just black but it was like a really deep blue midnight looking sky so I've added that in and then I'm gonna go in with some clear in-between because I don't want all my stars to disappear and then you'll see that I go in and add some Stardust black to it as well and combine the two to kind of get the night sky thing that I'm coming for which I don't really know what I'm going for again I am just plain and experimenting always on these pieces [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] now I've combined some of that start us charcoal black into the blue and segregated the lines because it was seeping into my color and I'm using my heat gun to blow it out and away and blend it together so it's kind of got that streaky sky look and then I go back in with the same colors that I used in my first layer and I just start building layers and adding more color and working it until I get another composition that I like and I'm ready to let it go and then we'll move on to the final layer of resin which will be just a clear coat but you'll see first I've got to do a little sanding because I have a hair in it oh the worst thing for an artist is finding a hair in your art when you think you're done so stay tuned for that [Music] [Music] you can certainly just do a one-layer pores and they'll look amazing I just like to build up my layers because then you can see down through them it just gives a really nice depth and interest in your piece so that's why I like to do multiple layers and you notice I do that all my seascapes as well as my cosmics so that's the reason behind I know you could just totally stop at that first layer and it'd be a beautiful piece but it really gives it something extra if you do add layer upon layer and of course you didn't keep layering this up as much as you'd like but I just do it until I feel it's complete and it's good enough for me [Music] [Music] and here you can see that I can use my heat gun also to push color back away from sections that I don't want it because I want to keep some of that negative space and I want my stars to show through in the background so don't forget your heat gun is just like your paintbrush that enables you to move the paint around a canvas [Music] and now that I'm done with this second layer I set aside to cure and then think well maybe it's done but nope I pulled it out the next day and saw and one little tiny spot a little tiny hair probably one of my cat's hairs so I just take a really fine sandpaper I sand it down and then use my alcohol wipe to clean my board off really good make sure there's no dust or particles on it and then I move on to my third and final layer which is just a resin clear coat [Music] I cross my fingers and say a little prayer and put it away to cure and hope that this is my final coat on this piece and take it out and sure enough it looks amazing you can see in these pictures the layers and depth I hope you can some of the cool interest and cell work so if you like what I'm doing I'd love it if you'd hit that subscribe button and turn on that little notification about that way you'll know when I upload my next video I hope you enjoyed this tutorial have a great day everyone happy creating
