the Razer Blade 16 is an Ever increasingly Competitive Gaming and mobile workstation Market New in the 2024 model is the world's first 16-in 240 HZ OLED display Wi-Fi 7 an Intel 14th gen HX series processors is it enough to justify the high price tag let's find [Music] out the blade 16 has anodized aluminium uni body finish typical of a razor laptop and a titanium plate in the front of the base giving additional sturdiness the minimalistic design chassis is solid with no flexing on the keyboard deck the display lid has a small amount of warping if you apply a decent amount of pressure but it's still very well protected the blade 16 weighs in at 2.45 kg or 5.4 lb not want to hold with one hand unless you're popy or carry around with you on your travels the only external lighting effect is the characteristic razor Snake logo on the back of the lid the blade 16 is still a fingerprint magnet the OCD in you will be constantly wiping it away from the solid chassi and keyboard deck unless of course you decide on the Mercury version in the 2024 model you have a choice of black or the Mercury silver finish although the Mercury option maxes out with a GeForce RTX 480 and mini LED panel just a quick word on the green credentials of the blade 16 the FSC certified packaging is recyclable with no bulky epe foam used however the laptop chassis and materials used is way behind more eco-friendly manufacturers like lovo and HP to open the bottom cover unscrewed the eight T5 torque screws and pry openen the liad to open there are two ddr5 memory slots upgradable to 96 GB ddr5 5200 MHz there's also two pcie 4 * 4 m.2 SSD slots sandwich one on top of the other therefore you can only use two single-sided mvme drives upgradeable to 8 terab in total the 95.2 W battery and W land card are both removable this review model has a 16in QHD plus 16 X10 ODed panel made by Samsung there's various certificates for this panel including display HDR true black 500 vessa clear Mr 11,000 cman verified and Nvidia gsync enabled it's factory calibrated and color gamut is rated at 100% DCI P3 refresh rate is a high 240 HZ with a response time of 0.2 milliseconds gray to gr and 0.4 milliseconds black to white there's no black light bleeding on the OLED panel the OLED display is an absolutely gorgeous screen to work on Vivid colors high contrast deep blacks and true color accuracy thanks to the factory calibration the 240 HZ panel improves motion Clarity when you are gaming for example competitive firstperson Shooters benefit most when turning improving the clarity of your surroundings but you're also also notice it reading texts on Long documents and scrolling through websites tip out of the box play around with the color profiles and keep the brightness over 80% to get the best out of this beautiful display brightness is rated at up to 400 nits perfectly fine for indoor usage Outdoors the screen gets quite reflective in strong sunlight stick to shady areas if you can the love weakness of this panel is a grainy paper effect similar to the new Samsung s24 phones it's only visible on medium to dark gray backgrounds on the left we have the propri power connector two USB type a 3.2 Gen 2 ports one USBC 3.2 Gen 2 with power delivery and a 3.5 mm headphone microphone combo Jack on the right we have a Kensington security lock HDMI 2.1 One USB 3.2 Gen 2 type a one USBC Thunderbolt 4 and SD card reader the wireless card inside is an Intel be2 200 supporting Wi-Fi 7 2 * 2 and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless coverage and speed was excellent during testing especially if you have a rare Wi-Fi 7 access point or router Bluetooth was reliable with the external mouse or speaker the RGB keyboard has a membrane switch Keys the layout is nicely spaced out with flat Keys aimed at Gamers rather than touch typist key travels short at 1.0 mm but tactile perfect for gaming accuracy comfort and response feel like the rest of the chassis the keys are fingerprint magnets so have a cloth handy at all times the per button RGB backlighting razor chroma can be extensively configured via the Razer snapis app as is typical for Razer laptops for example Windows 11 Dynamic lighting allows you to sync up your devices games and platforms chroma Studio allows you to customize your device lighting effects during gaming or music playback the gargant touchpad has Microsoft Precision drivers and a glass surface for smooth gliding of your fingers generally it's accurate in use and the quiet integrated buttons work well however due to its size I found the palms of my hand touching the pad leading to inaccurate touch inputs the blade 16 has four speakers two tweeters and two woofers there's two smart amps running the speakers with a power output of 4 wats in total razor is linked up with THX to provide an audio enhancement app the audio quality is generally solid with good Clarity and detail volume is precise and loud but Bas is disappointingly weak at this price point most Gamers will wear headphones here are some audio [Music] [Applause] samples [Applause] what's going [Music] [Music] on the 1080p Windows hello built-in IR webcam has a sliding privacy shutter video quality-wise the webcam is pretty good for a full HD one in good lighting condition clear sharp and good color accuracy useful for the occasional teams meeting with your friends quality does fade away in Darker surroundings this review model has an Intel Core I94 900 HX with 24 cores comprising of eight performance cores from 2.2 GHz base clock to 5.8 GHz single core turbo 16 efficiency Calles from 1.6 GHz to 4.1 GHz based on the Raptor Lake architecture with 32 Freds a processor base power 55 wats minimum assured power of 45 Watts to a maximum of 157 wats along with 32 GB of ddr5 5600 MHz RAM and 2 terb SSD m.2 mvme pcie4 the razor blade 16 goes through any heavy workflow without breaking into a sweat whether you are a Pro Gamer or rendering 3D modeling for work with Flagship components it's never going to struggle for a benchmark test we set the best performance mode in Windows and plug the laptop into the mains during testing here are the benchmarking results the RTX 490 the blender score was 73277 here is a comparison with similar laptops we reviewed the Intel I 94900 HX has a slightly higher single core performance than the previous 13980 HX compared to its rival the AMD ryzen 9 7945 HX it's just behind it in general benchmarking results using the quick CPU tool Plugged In Balance mode idle CPU temperature is around 48 C CPU clock speed is around 1.3 GHz e cor to 2 GHz p and 10 W CPU power with video playback balance mode the I 94900 HX gets hot at 65 celsi to 76 celsus on average 2 to 3 GHz on the E calls 45 GHz on the PE calls and CPU power 40 to 60 wats the duw fans fire up noticeably and the temperature at the vents is 39 C onwards updating Microsoft flight simulator the middle of the keyboard is 35 Cel on the function keys around the F4 F5 F6 temperature is 37 C the keyboard deck is 33 C the vents at the rear temperature is 42 celi set to high performance plugged in running blender benchmarking the CPU fluctuates around 3 GHz on the ecores to 3.5 GHz on the PE calls CPU temperature is around 89 C and CPU power is constant at 120 to 129 wats the fans do kick in faster at 61 DB temperatures around the vents is 41 cus set to high performance plugged in gaming with cyberpunk 2027 the CPU fluctuates around 2.83 GHz on the ECS to 3.5 GHz on the Pees CPU temperature is around 83 C and CPU power is constant at 60 wats the fans kick fast and loud at 61 DB temperatures around the vents is 48 C in battery mode balance mode video playback the CPU power is 12 to 15 wats on average clock speed is 1.7 to 1.8 GHz on both types of calls and CPU temp temperature of 57 Cel the fans stay virtually silent at 35 DB and Chassis temperatures hit 38 CS at most same can be set with running the blender Benchmark under battery Mode best performance the CPU is throttled down to keep temperatures down to the detriment of performance CPU power stays around 30 wat under 2 GHz on the E calls to 2.5 to 3 GHz clock speed on the PE calls and CPU temperature of 69 C the Dual fans and Vapor chamber do keep the fan noise and temperatures down when running heavy workflows the fans spin at 41 DB but not too loud temperature around the vents is 41.5 C here's a list of the target audience for the Razer Blade 16 Gamers creative Pros 3D product designers Architects and Engineers data scientists game and VR developers there's an integrated Intel UHD graphics for basic tasks for heavy work a dedicated GPU is present in the flagship Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPU based on the Ada LEL architecture with 16 GB of gddr6 vram 9,728 Cuda cors with a boost clock of up to 240 mahz 76 rate tracing calls total Graphics power or tgp is up to 175 wats no guesses that the Razer Blade 16 with the RTX 490 plays any AAA games it will happily play any game in Max settings here are some gaming [Music] samples the blade 16 has a TPM 2.0 security encryption chip a webcam privacy shutter and a nano Kenington lock there's no fingerprint reader the blade 16 has a 95.2 w battery balance mode 40% brightness General web surfing or running web apps will give battery life of approximately 5 and 1/ half hours video playback will give you around 7 hours if you max out the performance and brightness under load or gaming expect just over 1 hour of battery life tip lower the refresh rate to 60 HZ and avoid using the power hungry RTX 490 to get more battery life the 330 W Gan power adapter uses a proprietary charging port that is Backward Compatible with last year's models The Good the Bad and the really bad potent power the blade 16 smashes it with top performance from the top components used guarantee it will fly for anything put in its path whether it's gaming or 3D modeling gorgeous display feature eyes on visual creaminess with the OLED 240Hz display panel colorful vibrant fast responsive and extremely color accurate built quality you know what you are buying into when you purchase a razor 100% aluminium unibody sandblasted and anodized titanium anti flex plate and keyboard deck resulting in a solid and premium unibody chassis fan noise hopefully you have invested in a decent pair of headphones as that your fans in the vapor chamber spin up more often than not they get loud and deafening over music from your gameplay or Spotify playlist one tb4 when you've paid a small fortune you expect at least both USBC ports to be funderbolt 4 that is stingy razor inferior inputs when you have donated your kidney to BU the blade 16 the keyboard and touchy touchpad are not up to Snuff the keyboard is shallow but has zero tactile feedback when you're gaming if you intend on using it for work too it's poor for touch typ is out there the touchpad is beautifully garanto and smooth but there lies its problem you end up touching the pad with your palm at the same time as gliding your fingers frustrating at times worth upgrading if you have the 2020 3 blade 16 it's not worth upgrading to the 2024 model the 14th gen Intel CPU has no noticeable performance benefit over the 13th gen the GPU is the same in the RTX 490 and if you have the mini LED model from last year it's still a fantastic panel expensive razors have always had high price tags some will argue too expensive for what you get especially as the gaming laptop Market is ultra competitive or are you a rare individual just buying the green razor badge for similar if not better performance game you could save over £1,000 or $1,281 if you want more value there's healthy competition in the high-end gaming laptop category what are the alternatives to the razor blade 16 in no particular order here's something to consider Lenovo Legion 9i gen 9 16in Intel Alienware x16 R2 isus Rog strike scar 16 2024 G 634 ACA Predator Helios 16 MSI Ray g68 HX 14v HP Omen 16 2023 noovo Legion Pro 7i gen 9 16in Intel gigabyte oros 16x 2024 the Razer Blade 16 is a gorgeously built laptop with top Flagship specs from the I9 14900 HX and RTX 4090 GPU the OLED display is dreamy with vibrant colors and super fast refresh rates from the 240 HZ Samsung screen the only weaknesses is the grainy effect on Gray backgrounds and the 400 nits brightness that could be higher the other new highlight is Wi-Fi 7 for faster connectivity and bandwidth however we can't get away from the eye watering £4,200 or $4,200 price tag for that we expect near Perfection and the blade 16 is far from perfect the keyboard is a bit of a damp squib in use the touchpad is too big where less is more there's only one Thunderbolt four port when there should be two the four speakers could have been better with some bass from extra pair of speakers it's hot loud and still a fingerprint magnet there are better performers out there like the noovo legion 9i gen 9 or if value is your consideration the noovo legion Pro 7i gen 9 is a good choice and a considerable saving over the razor blade 16 if you are primarily using it for work the HP zbook Fury 16 G10 workstation has better features upgrade options and cooling if you are a rich Enthusiast gamer who must have the andand the Razer Blade 16 is seriously a cool gaming laptop for the rest of us our heads tell us to look
