thing of beauty but this is his first test absolutely this is his first test he's fighting a real guy with a real record tonight that was a mistake from gutierrez he tried to jump to the back instead of securing that he could stay on his feet and get out of that position and now look where he's at roses able to slice that right leg over right into mount combine nine first-round finishes between these two and their 12 wins some big shots too gonna try to get to the back [Applause] but i've seen him get shaken off the front and land right into an armbar and finish a fight like that he's so so diverse and so dynamic with his submission attempts yeah look at this in the transitions he's just constantly keeping himself in a spot where he can threaten something gutierrez doing a lot of the right things here tripoding up trying to get roses junior to fall off the top and he's also blocking that second hook you can see gutierrez there body triangle now you've got to roll to your back with the arm in like that it looks like the head i mean i'm sure he's not happy in there but he's got his shoulder see how his shoulders shimmying out too and if he's breathing he can just last until the horn and now he's safe now that roses has passed he's completely safe now he's looking for that von plume not enough time how about that for a first round on the ground between these two back and how good he is at controlling guys on the canvas moves right into side control here looking briefly for the silhouette stretch but the knee was not at the right angle was not able to completely back he keeps pulling into these less dominant positions sitting through for guillotines and it's just when you have a guy who's that good at jiu jitsu you have to start employing ground and pound position overseas you've got to recognize at some point you've got to be an intelligent fighter and but okay listen if i just play this jiu jitsu game maybe i'm going to lose maybe you go i heard him with a right hook i landed one clean punch on the feet let's try this maybe he's getting fatigued from all this dropping i think a little bit of ego is at play here he's trying to get another guy instead it's rosa's back to his feet just over two minutes to go so these guys are glued to each other right now well we knew this was gonna be the case right we talked about how both these guys their expertise is primarily grappling especially for roses jr gutierrez six finishes and seven wins all six submissions listening to the corner of mondo gutierrez out of murcielago mma i put a lot of pressure on the neck you can see the face don't lose that position if you're not going back striking don't lose that position if you're not going for submission striking stop possession top position submission game like we talked about paul he's got to dominate the position and look to have some ground and pounds yeah you've got this young kid i don't care how good he is you've got to start to hit him with some shots that make him rethink why he's here and he's not doing that and now look at what rosa's junior does ends up back on top because he didn't listen to his corner he could have not taken the back and just went crazy with elbows and strikes and instead it's tough though once you start getting engaged in those kind of exchanges it becomes second nature even though that might not be your game plan as a fighter it's hard to it's hard to fight past those instincts uterus was thinking about a triangle there for a second but [Applause] no going i feel like he's accepting this this position a little bit too much for such a for such a good jujitsu fighter that he is he's got to start digging butterflies and looking for sweeps guard close bottom position for gutierrez final 20 seconds of the round we showed you the control time heavily in favor of rosas jr who's at nearly seven minutes through the first two rounds and this fight will head to a third round as we hit the horn their fighter needs to stop raul rosas if he wants to get the win and any hopes that a contract well he's on top is gutierrez this is a good spot for him although i you know i probably would have asked him to keep it on the feet if i was his corner because he was you know rosa's junior was getting a little hectic out there in the openings but he is in a dominant position now now it's a matter of keeping this position not getting swept but doing damage yes much harder to get a finish from here he's got to watch the arm oh now takes the back i don't think he should take the back that happens it's easy to lose [Applause] he's comfortable there you know i think you don't think every day when he's on the mat at some point again against other high level grappler she's fighting to get you know somebody off of his back or reverse that position looks like there's some damage on the left side of gutierrez's face into his eye a little bit or is it on the bridge of the nose gutierrez has to open he's showing us a little bit of everything here tonight great i mean obviously great grappling great takedown aggressive with his strikes from the top position he's not he's not shying away from exchanging on the feet i thought he looked pretty pretty good as well he's still green but he just hasn't had to show that yet but you can tell if he's tested against somebody with really solid defense and can keep it on the feed he'll he'll exchange more time on the back for roses as we hit the halfway point of the third and final round yeah control time's got to be through the roof he's the clock is starting to be a major enemy of mondo gutierrez as we approach two minutes it's just tough too you gotta i you know i do feel for gutierrez you're a grappler your strengths are in these same positions you win fights in these positions but that's why in mma we've got to try to be so diverse because you're always going to run into somebody at some point who's better than you in that area mondo's trying to turn in but the body triangle roses junior allows him to keep the back here ideally mondo would start scooting his hips out to the right but that body [Music] the adrenaline dump would he have the grit and the man's strength that takes deep into the fight and it's the reverse of what we might have thought good to be 17. well no matter what happens tonight the result of this fight appears to be going the way of roses jr whether he gets the contract or not this young man has a very bright future in mma perhaps the ufc and it's proof of the larger youth movement in general in mixed martial arts i mean we've seen it especially in the latter half of the summer on the contender series saw it in san diego in that strawweight fight 20 seconds to go i'm interested to hear dana's thoughts on this fight because often he rewards effort and there is no shortage of effort on the part of rosos jr very impressive submission attempts and there's the final horn first time 15 full minutes for the 17 year old raul rosas jr mondo gutierrez goes the distance as well and now the respect between these two after largely a frantic back and forth grappling contest insane 27 for the winner by unanimous decision rahu well perhaps paulie came for a bit more a finish a submission an impressive highlight but i would argue you can't do it much better than that for 17 year old raul rosas jr there were many people wondering is this where he belongs at this point in his career and he showed he can hang thank you very much brendan well you are still undefeated and an absolutely dominant performance almost the entire fight how happy are you with this fight tonight i'm happy but i'm not satisfied you know i didn't get to finish but forget that i got the experience you know and i got to show a little bit more on my level you know third round i was planning to show you how some of my striking but he was able to get the takedown and congrats to him on that you know but next time i won't go like that we saw you stop and exchange a few few words with dana what did you say to dana you know i told them despite my age i'll finish a lot of guys in the ufc you know they're not them they're not my level forget about my age anybody you know give me that contract give me a fight this saturday next saturday or bald you know i'm ready whenever i was born to fight and i'm not going to take a break in the middle i'll take a break at the end did gutierrez have you in any bad spots at any point he was he had a few submission attempts were any of them close hell no but it was good you know he tried you know you that's what we're here for you know but hell no i'm not tapping into anything do you feel like you're ready for the ufc hell yeah i think that's a mic drop moment right there
