Rare gray whale sighting in the Atlantic

we're back with our play of the day Sam is here very rare whale sighting yeah George I mean I think it's a super cool thing to see but it's a little concerning as to why we see it I promise I'll explain gry whales were believed to be extinct in the Atlantic for the last 200 years so check out what Marine experts discovered just off the coast of Massachusetts look at this huge thing it's a massive gray whale diving resurfacing easily now you can tell what it is by no dorsal fin and that gray white skin that you can see there but just to make sure researchers from the New England Aquarium Flew Over the area for 45 minutes because they were stunned they wanted to confirm is this the whale they thought it was so weighing up to 60,000 lbs so it's kind of huge right gr whales are usually found in the Pacific Ocean because remember they were extinct in the Atlantic so scientists believe this particular whale made it through the Northwest Passage that's the area in the Arctic that is usually covered with sea ice that you can't swim through but but now during the summer season the sea ice is pretty much mostly gone so they believe this whale crossed from Atlantic cross from atas Alaska all the way through the Arctic Ocean to the Atlantic so it's super cool to see it in a place that we would not have expected it but it's really weird how it may have gotten there oh that is some story Sam thank you thank you sir and 60,000 lb just gigantic like you can't miss it but but it's so cool that they were flying over to go wait is this what we think it is did how did it get here well thank you for explaining how it got there Sam thank you well hey there GMA fans Robin Roberts here thanks for checking out our YouTube channel lots of great stuff here so go on click the Subscribe button right over right over here to get more of Awesome videos and content from GMA every day anytime we thank you for watching and we'll see you in the morning on GMA
