Orcas are the definition of an apex predator. Dolphins, sharks, whales, tuna, seals, basically everything they eat is a large predator.
Why no blood in the water?
At up to 29.9 meters (98 ft), the blue whale is the largest known vertebrate to ever exist on Earth. An adult blue whale can eat up to 40 million krill per day, which is approximately 3,600 kilograms (7,900 lb) or 1.5 million kilocalories (about 3.5 cows or 6200 Snickers bars).

Fun fact; There was a mistake in translation that lead to the misconception that orcas are “killer whales”. They’re actually “whale killers” (dolphins).
Not enough fish left to eat for the Orcas?
This made me so sad... 3 hours that poor whale endured :(
For anyone curious, yes, this is a ton of exaggeration and slightly bullcrap. The orcas would have to be on multiple drugs to try and eat a blue whale alive. Blues are so huge that a half-hearted tail whap can break multiple ribs on the killer whales. Plus, the whales' blubber and skin is way too thick for something like an orca to even rip off a chunk of flesh. What the orcas were trying to do was avoid the insanely powerful tail and jump on TOP of the whale, to push it down and drown it. This is the only realistic way possible for an orca to kill something as huge as that whale because biting it would deal absolutely no damage. This video is trying to make killer whales seem like crazed evil monsters that will surround you and slowly torture you to death, in reality they are extremely strategic and aren't stupid enough to just "devour it alive".
