hey guys guess what today is [Music] yes The Legend of Zelda breath of the wild looks poised to become one of the best tourist video games ever made which is pretty fitting because The Legend of Zelda in my personal humble opinion is the best tourist video game series ever made I've loved the Zelda series for years now and I've replayed these games over and over again so now that we're finally getting a new addition to the 3d Zelda library I figured might as well rank the 5 ones we've had for the past 5 years now let me just say right now that I'm ranking them on completely subjective personal opinion here so you're probably gonna disagree with my list most likely also I want to say this I'm only gonna be taking a new account the remakes of these games because I consider those to be the definitive version just because of a lot of the problems they fix in the originals so I won't be criticizing the water temple and its Iron Boots problem or the fact that the tingle and the way Waker D sucks that that yeah that's not a problem for Wind Waker HD so it won't be a problem anyway with that said let's get started here's my ranking of the 5 3d Zelda games [Music] Oh Skyward Sword like I said I consider all five of the 3d Zelda's masterpieces and this one is no exception it has by far the most flaws of any 3d Zelda game but for me the good stuff is just so damn good that almost makes up for the negatives almost let's start with my biggest positive the art style by God is this impressionist style gorgeous in all honesty this is my favorite art style in any Zelda game sometimes I get the urge to play this game just so I can roam around its beautiful landscapes the story and characters are more investing than ever - this is easily the most likeable Zelda has ever been groose is awesome Impa is great here hims a ton of fun you really become attached to these characters over the course of the game and you care about their plight the motion controls work well for the most part the beetle is a fantastic addition the side quest is some of the best in the series the silent realms are intense and incredible there's some fantastic dungeons a nifty upgrade system great time shift stone puzzles one of the greatest boss battles in video game let alone Zelda history oh my god it's just great in a lot of ways this feels like a long needed evolution of Zelda franchise as a whole but there's a cache for every one step forward this game seems to take two steps back I personally didn't mind all the game's flaws of my first few playthroughs but man the more I play this game the more its flaws just start to weigh on me the world isn't particularly fun to explore the goddess harp is a disaster to use most of the bosses aren't that great the gate of time goes absolutely nowhere flying kind of sucks tat zones are the bane of my existence fie is a train wreck in every possible sense of the word it hurts me despite these flaws I feel like this games positives are just so high that it really cancels out the negatives and makes this game into a true masterpiece that's what I would say if it weren't for the imprisoned I hate everything about this overgrown Muppet I hated stupid design I hate it's insulting weak points I hate it's unfair difficulty I hated Li decided to put in Hyrule warriors instead of oh I don't know Cola so this is supposed to be the manifestation of ultimate evil in the stall of the universe and it looks like that that and if this was just one boss it wouldn't matter it'd be like the water temple of Skyward Sword whatever but here's the thing you fight this three times and he just keeps getting worse the only positive thing I can say about this is the groose inator is pretty fun to use out of all the 3d Zelda's this is the only one where I stopped myself before starting a new playthrough and I asked myself should I though in my mind that's the mark of a true last place Skyward Sword it's a great game but a couple of flaws have imprisoned it in the bottom spot [Music] I always hesitate to call any Zelda game over rated other than like to the past because opinions constantly changed within the Zelda fan base there was a time when everyone hated Majora's Mask there was a time when everyone hated Twilight Princess and now everyone hates Skyward Sword it goes back and forth and there's hardly ever consensus for more than a few years however if I had to pick just one 3d Zelda that gets a little too much credit and it's just a tad overrated I'd have to go with winwaker so obviously this game drew a mixed response from fans when it was first revealed mainly due to its art style critics loved it however and over the years it grew into steam eventually becoming one of the more universally loved entries in the series here's the thing though the problems people had upon the game's reveal like the kiddie style and the drastically different gameplay are never problems that I had I loved the art style and easygoing feel of the game and I loved sailing on the open seas sometimes I just turned this game on to sail around the world aimlessly without any real goal that's how good this game's atmosphere is here's my big problem though the game never really feels like it gets started win waker was a victim of cut content when it first came out and it really shows the dungeons while solid never really feel like they've ramped up in difficulty like the other Zelda games and in addition it just doesn't feel like there's enough of them yes I know a certain other game had less dungeons than winwaker and i don't want to get into that until we actually get to that game but one of the main factors that made that game work was its substantial side quests winwaker side quests are fine but mostly forgettable and on top of that the treasure charts really didn't hit home for me I love the idea of digging up sunken treasure but when some of the rewards are rupees or worthless charts that I never use it's hard to be motivated about finding every piece of buried treasure alright I bitched and moaned about this game long enough what do I like about it well as I said the art style and overall atmosphere when salient is great I love the characters and especially how likeable and expressive link is the story is surprisingly pretty serious and well done with this possibly be my favorite iteration of Ganondorf the items are very fluid and fun to use but this game having one of my favorite items in any Zelda game stealing items from enemies is so much fun combat is so much fun the game's controls are simply so much fun I even love the pic debauch syquest despite how insane it can be it's the best way I can summarize this games as a series of fantastic engaging atmospheric elements that never quite come together as a whole there's a perfect game in here somewhere it's just not fully realized if it had more dungeons less filler a more focused world to explore and a better treasure system it might be my second favorite game in the series as is it's still a boatload of fun [Music] if there's one great thing about Nintendo it's how much they listen to their fans yeah we all know Nintendo is pretty infamous when it comes to ignoring what their fans once but would you believe that eleven short years ago Nintendo not only listened to fan feedback they gave us exactly what we wanted yes why light princess took the world by storm upon its initial reveal well it didn't entirely live up to the hype its trailer generated who cares it's still fantastic Twilight Princess takes the foundation laid down by aqua a time and expands upon it combining some truly inspired ocarina homage with its own Twilight II flavor the wolf form while not as fleshed out as it could be is still a great fit for the game the dungeons are super fun creative and challenging the bosses are a blast to fight the items are some of the most unique and fun in zelda history and i just have a great time exploring this vast world on horseback and and covering all its secrets and i can't praise Midna enough she's not invasive like fie nor distant like the king of Red Lions she's arguably more engaged in the story than link or Zelda she goes through some good character development and her personality and attitude is just so charming no other Zelda companion comes close in my book is this game perfect certainly not I feel like despite the lengthy and satisfying main quest this game might have the weakest collection of sigh quests in the series even though the minigames are pretty fun and yeah even the main quest has its low points like some annoying bug collecting moments and a painfully uninteresting portion of time related to restoring Ilias memory and yeah I know you guys love that whole dark elope racine but honestly I think it's a complete joke but overall this is an immensely satisfying game and I even prefer its tone over that of the Wind Waker not its graphics but its tone it's the most adult Zelda to date and I can't get enough of it even though the whole five pieces are thing is super-weird [Music] whenever any work of art in any medium is regarded as an untouchable masterpiece by the majority of people I hardly ever buy into the height I'll look at something that everyone calls a masterpieces and I'll say yeah it's great but I wouldn't call it perfect there are some exceptions to the rule of course but they're very few and far between Ocarina of Time is arguably the most acclaimed video game of all time the level of hype going into this game is improbably high and seemingly impossible to hit and if this game didn't live up to the impossible standards people hold the - I wouldn't fault it at all so with that said does ocarina of time live up to its own hype well let's take a look the game starts you out as a young kid exploring a vast world making new friends taking on fairly simple dungeons and helping the awesome princess girl fight back against the scary ginger man a light-hearted whimsical tone is set despite how simple this portion of the game is it's incredibly fun nonetheless annoying L on with Sandin so you've got the three magic rocks and you're ready to show princess Zell oh that was scary so you put the stones in the thing grab the cool sword and oh now you're in adults question mark you step outside ready to start your quest end [Music] in just one visual the tone has been drastically shifted and is now set for the remainder of the game you know exactly what's at stake for the future you distinctly remember the past you have to restore and you're absolutely pumped to save the world of course great tone and motivation can only go so far without good gameplay and thankfully ocarina of time excels here too the dungeons are perfect they're all memorable they're all fun and they're all satisfying at least in the 3ds version where the iron boots thing is fixed the world is perfect its vast it's more manageable than Twilight Princess plus you genuinely care about the world and people you're saving cheek is a wonderful addition to the game and every time she and her theme shows up this game just becomes all the more magical in fact that's the best word to describe this game it's a magical experience and it honestly just gets better and better the more I play it you form connections with every one of the sages you're always working to put the world back in order you even have a bit of freedom in terms of which dungeon you tackle before others the game has its flaws like navi and the guy who eats your Tootsie Pop but honestly the rest of this game is so perfect that I really don't care and I know what you're thinking oh you're just being nostalgia blind no actually I didn't grow up with this game and it wasn't my first Zelda my first Zelda was Scott a little embarrassing Skyward Sword but I played ocarina on the door a month later so calm down and when I played ocarina it captivated me from start to finish and I couldn't wait to play it again and again going back to the question I posed at the beginning of this segment does ocarina of time live up to its own hype my answer would have to be a resounding yes it's gameplay seems deceptively simple compared to every other 3d Zelda that came after it but out of all the stories featuring link Zelda Ganon and Hyrule it's the one where you care the most who care about the world the amazing dungeons the people you form bonds with this is truly a game for the ages and it's not just phenomenal it's my second favorite video game of all time [Music] well you already know when number one is by process of elimination and if you know me in real life you already knew what number one was before you clicked on the video so let's cut to the chase The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask is not only my favorite video game of all time it's my second favorite work of arts ever made it's better than any book any TV show any movie I've ever seen there's only one thing on planet earth that I like more gee I wonder what it could be pretty much everything I said about ocarina of time can be applied here but cranked up to 11 the story simple yet unbelievably investing the world incredibly packed with things to discover the dungeons insanely inventive challenging and satisfying the gameplay actually that's pretty much a 180 from ocarina is simplicity Majora's Mask offers three incredibly fun transformation masks in a unique three day time limit that enhances the game rather than the tracks from me this time limit can make or break the game for most people but for me it's too compelling to pass up and the game wouldn't be the same without it also this game is by two favorite items in the entire Zelda series the Goron mask and the bunny hood they make movement and exploration so much fun but to be honest I probably spend more time in this game as a Gore on that I do as a human there's just something about rolling around the world collecting the masks and discovering people's routine that I just have a blast with much like winwaker I play this game just for the fun of it sometimes even on files I've already 100% completed but with that said it's also just so good at being dark and atmospheric with all due respect to ocarina of time this game is in my opinion the best allegory for growing up in the Zelda series link starts out as quest by doing something as basic and childish as helping a monkey and rescuing a princess before being thrust into the roles of a dead goron hero and a well known guitarist finally link journeys through the incredibly grim ikana canyon with a dead linker and eternal suffering and this game goes from decently dark to intense out of all the Zelda games this one probably works in the biggest upward trajectory in the entire series where it just gets better and more investing the longer you play it but do you want to know the real reason I love this game so much more than any other game I've played no more than any other work of fiction I've ever experienced I care I care about the people I'm saving and the world I'm putting back in order I'm motivated to help these people because they feel like actual people with ambitions dreams and goals and helping them out makes for the richest most satisfying gameplay I've ever experienced but do you want to know the even realer reason I love this game so much every single time I replay it I discover something new there's always some hitting conversation or event that I haven't yet found just waiting to be discovered on every single playthrough this game is a Metal Gear Solid level of attention to detail and it's phenomenal truthfully though I could never do this game justice with words and I don't think anyone can Matthieu mitosis put it best when he said that even if you know practically everything there is to know about this game going in the sum of all these parts come together into something that's still well worth experiencing by all accounts this game that started out as an ocarina of time expansion with a one-year development cycle should not be widely considered to be one of the greatest video games ever made but it just is over the past five years of playing through these five games over and over again my ranking has gone back and forth so much Skyward Sword and win waker were both at number two at one point Twilight Princess was dead last for quite some time it's been all over the place and it took me forever to come up with what I consider my definitive ranking but for five years there's always been one constant Majora's Mask has always been my number and I don't know if anything will ever do throw knit breath of the wild looks like it might come close but I don't know if it can match the fun the atmosphere the maturity and the deep emotional impact of the masterpiece known as The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask [Music] but to be honest if it does I'm going to be thrilled The Legend of Zelda is a series that's gone on for so many years and that's because it involves it changes it can be anything it wants to be and it still manages to be something of quality every single time here's to one of the greatest franchises in gaming history from a sunken pirate red scrub the deck can make
