welcome to mcn i'm here today to talk about  superbikes my favorite subject now we've just made   a video it's the summer of 2022 which you may have  seen if you have thanks for watching and if you   haven't check it out and it's testing the three  exotic superbikes from ducati aprilia and bmw   and the ducati panigale v4 sp2 one now we didn't  include any other superbikes in that video   and there's a good reason why and it's because  we have ridden them all in the past um and they   haven't really changed much so we know exactly  where they figure in the whole scheme of things   so what i've decided to do today is reel off all  the superbikes you can buy right now and i'm very   lucky enough that i've ridden them all and i can  tell you where i think they fit into the world   i'm also going to answer a few of the comments  that we saw in that exotic superbike video   um the first of all was the fact that um super  bikes road bikes versus race bikes obviously the   r1 has been really successful in racing bsb wsb  moto gp kawasaki's do well in racing with johnny   ray at bsb level as well ducatis race bikes are  completely different to road bikes and when we   do our group tests we're taking bikes from the  dealerships and razzing them around the track   and riding them on the road so our opinion of  those bikes is those bikes that we're riding   if you take johnny ray's bike for example a set  of johnny ray's forks probably cost more than all   the superbikes we were testing in our exotic bike  video so you can't even relate to those the next   thing is to talk about all these super bikes in  price category so there's a lot of them here so   i've written them down so if we talk about the  affordable super bikes well really none of them   are affordable because the price of rocketed up  over recent years um so let's categorize them   in sub 20 000 pounds so i'm going to give you the  prices all of these but obviously they'll change   probably as the video goes out because the prices  are spiraling and in different countries they're   going to cost different amounts so i'm going  to rattle through these in alphabetical order   starting with the aprilia rsv4 1100 the base  model 16 900 pounds absolutely cracking value   and wouldn't be too far behind a factory the ride  quality wouldn't be quite as plush because it's   got normal suspension um but the same comments  would apply it would be very very cramped so   if you're a shorter rider you're pretty fantastic  and very good bike at that price then we've got   the bmws thousand rr for under 20 grand you can  have the base model with no bells and whistles   or the sports which has got a few more bits the  base model 16280 the sports 17450 really that's   one of the best all-round super bikes best  value super bikes you can buy really it's got   everything you need fantastic on the track  really really good on the roads got some creature   comforts like cruise control and heated grips  fantastic dash that'll be one of my picks of that   uh price category honda fireblade cbr thousand rr  r um this is basically the same as the sp but it's   got slightly lower spec normal suspension slightly  lower spec brakes no quick shifter that's knocking   on the door at 20 grand 19 999 pounds if you're  going to spend that much money you might as well   get an sp um the new generation fireblades are  very extreme very tall geared very cramped it   would kind of be towards the bottom end of this  category if we were to test them all back-to-back   kawasaki's nx10r and the cheapest of all  the superbikes 16 569 pounds you can also   get performance version for 17 569 that's been  revised in 2021 we know it's a world superbike   winner but as a road bike it's really cramped  really peaky terrible brakes that would be near   the back but it wouldn't take much to modify that  to make it a really good track bike and road bike   um g6000r suzuki are only listing the phantom  model which is a black one with gold wheels the   fancy exhaust pipe looks looks really good 17 499  pounds that used to be really cheap the base model   which they don't do anymore then you do the r used  to be about 13 grand when it came out in 2017.   that is a really really good road bike if  you weren't going to do many track days   i'd recommend the suzuki alongside the bmw's being  an absolutely brilliant road bike then for 18   200 you've got the yamaha r1 obviously the r1 is  fantastic if i was going to buy a track day bike   it would be the r1 but i would modify the brakes  because the brakes are awful like all yamaha sport   spikes 18 200 pound as i say used to be one of  the cheaper bikes that's rocketed up in value   you can also have an 18 700 pound version which is  a world gp 60th anniversary model but uh it's very   very uncomfortable on the road and that will kind  of be in the the mid pack really of this category   so moving on to more expensive super bikes the 20  000 pound plus bracket for 23 grand you've got the   factory version of the rsv4 you've seen how that  fared in now exotic bike video it it wasn't as   good as the the m thousand rr or the panigale  v4 sp2 but it held its head up high it was in   that category really within the exotica because it  it does feel exotic it's got fantastic v4 engine   it's got all the bells and whistles it's a  great bike if you're the right size for it   twenty one thousand pound gets you the s  thousand rrm package which we think is better   than the m thousand rr electronic suspension  all the bells and whistles carbon fiber wheels   an absolutely brilliant super bike that would  probably win that category um then you've got   the base model ducati v4 21 495 pounds again  like the blade if you're gonna go that deep into   your bank account you may as well get the v4s  but that's had a load of upgrades for 2022   to make it easier to ride is one of the most  beautiful superbikes you can buy it's gorgeous   and then staying on ducatis you've got the s model  which is 26 595 pounds probably not as good a road   bike as the s thousand rrm package but as an  absolutely drop dead gorgeous does everything   super bike that you can just brag to your mates  about and flipping fast around the track that   would be right up there as well could even win  that class honda fireblade cbr thousand rrsp   23 499 pounds or another 500 quid if you're  going to go for the 30th anniversary model   a lot of people have spoken about that it has  been modified this year we've ridden it and it's   got uh longer gearing shorter gearing actually  to make the first gear not so long make it more   usable on the road but it's still very tall geared  the reason it wasn't with the exotica is because   even though it's fantastic by it's got things  like rubber brake lines which you know for that   price you shouldn't really have still very cramped  still very peaky that would be down the bottom of   this class to be honest even though it's a great  bike and in the uk it's won a lot of races bsb and   on the roads um then we've got the kawasaki zx10rr  they're very rare beast but they're basically just   been made to go racing so they've got a few engine  mods which make them more tunable but doesn't   really make it a better road bike that would be  down there it's very expensive 24 799 and then   the yamaha r1m 23 600 pound that's a gorgeous bike  if it had better brakes it would be right up there   but the brakes really let it down and you can only  i know you can dump the abs i know you can change   the brakes but when you're testing these bikes as  road bikes you can only test the bike you've got   um again i'd have one of those for track days but  that would be kind of in the in the middle order   and then we've got the exotica as we know we've  got the 30 640 pound bmw m1000rr which finished   second in our exotic test there's a 50 years  m version that green one which has got all   the accessories on as a standard thirty five  thousand two hundred pounds that makes it the   most expensive of all the super bikes and then  it's the ducati thirty four thousand two hundred   ninety five pound v4 sp2 panigale that won the  test that's kind of the ultimate superbike really   worth mentioning as well a lot of people have  commented on some of the hyper bikes you can buy   most notably the kawasaki h2 which is a  very impressive bike kawasaki don't make   the h2 anymore the normal one not in the uk  anyway you don't sell it there um we've tested   that bike against an r1 before it's way too  heavy really to even compete it's more of a   bite in the same vein as a booster or a zr1400  um but it is an impressive thing kawasaki do list   the h2r on their uk website wickedly expensive  i think it's close to sixty thousand pounds um   it's much lighter it's much faster but you can't  actually ride it anywhere because it is too loud   so it's a bike you can't ride on the road and you  can't ride on the track which makes it really good   but ultimately pointless so the big question is  is which one should you actually buy which one's   going to give you the biggest bang for your  buck well i would say that overall it'll be   the bmw s thousand rr sport that's under 20 000  pounds you get all the bells and whistles with   it it's fantastic on the road fantastic on the  track and just slightly behind that i'd really   recommend the suzuki g6r thousand r because it's  affordable because it's a really great road bike   it's relatively simple compared to the latest and  greatest but it is really good um and if you were   just gonna do track days i would say get a decent  set of brakes and buy the r1 so that's the kind   of the state of the superbike nation really in  2022 hope that's helped fill in some of the gaps   for you and but we'll certainly be looking  forward to trying the next batch next year
