Raise Pigs on your Self Sufficient Homestead

foreign we've been building this off-grid Homestead for just over 12 years now if you want to become more self-sufficient if you want to build your own Homestead go off grid if you want to provide your own food and your own meat you've got to try pigs this year Kezia is Raising pigs she's raising two for us and she's raising two to sell you know there's a hundred ways you can do this stuff we'll just show you our way it's not that hard and the rewards are great you can read all about putting pigs in the forest and in fact that's what we did this pen right here used to be Forest just like that it was just solid this one here is our garden now and we've actually gone back and forth between this pen and this pen a few times with the pigs and we're at the point now where this one is our main Garden you can see we've just planted there's hardly anything poking up yet our garlic in this upper bit and so we've fenced off this bottom section for the pigs oh look at that oh have they found a cozy little spot in the mud yeah they love that so kezi is going to be feeding them grain but they've got a bit of pasture here they'll eat that up you know they eat all your kitchen scrap and your garden scrap they're easy to keep they're delicious they're actually maybe the easiest animal to cut and wrap in my opinion they're just all meat they're so easy are you up to it yep so Kezia is actually going to show you all the specifics about the pig pen and the pigs themselves and we do have to do one task we're bringing in a watering nipple we'll show you that in a bit but first we should show you how easy it is to go catch pigs when they're free-ranging simple right yeah pretty simple are you ready [Music] oh my word [Music] there we go you piggies [Music] [Music] [Music] are okay three males and a sow let's take them home time to go home let them out look at that it's like oh this isn't too bad after it's like wait I was kidnapped and then brought to Paradise here you go buddy there you go oh well that wasn't so bad or maybe it was a little piggy what is a turkey guy hey oh man here we go all right off you go buddy oh wow here you go so these are the new pigs seem to like it here hopefully this is the house that they've got tomato to track your tires so they can get some shade if they're pretty hot the last Pig's actually liked curling up in this this little part more than actually sleeping in the hay in the middle so we'll see we had a lot and they actually found one up in the second Tire with the feeder so they all can eat at the same time I have to screw it in so they don't drag it all over the place we've got the electric here and it goes all the way around you need the electric on the bottom so they don't root holes underneath the fence and get out and then well I actually got to attach this to the actually gotta attach this to the of the other electric so it works so I'll show you when I finish that okay so I just screwed those in now I just gotta get the wire tie this on here it doesn't have to be great it just test it make contact with the other wires I'll take it up here and then I'll tie it onto this one they're starting to root up by the fence already better get that electric done okay so I've attached it down there just knot it around went up next one up here I knot it on this other wire which goes up there to that charger this is the food I'm gonna be feeding him I actually got two so to go get the other one [Music] gonna open up the pig feed I haven't seen this stuff yet what's in here thankfully [Laughter] oh that kind I can actually see it there's some ground up P let's say some barley yep Harley isn't there barley in here yeah yeah barley wheat oats and peas I think they're all ground up so they can just get all the I think it's mostly barley I think it's a 40 20 20 20. is that right sounds right yeah yeah I think so and this is one ton and two tons together and that should be perfect eh yeah four pigs I think two pigs can eat this entire bag oh my goodness it's like Dan hurt is always with us you know what's really nice look at that oh you don't have to carry water from up there it's pretty handy the green actually soaks up quite a bit of water so every time I come up here I usually just top it up and you can actually see here you can actually see it it's been soaking for quite a while and you can see like the fermentation bubbles on the top so the price of the food each Pig will eat is about 300 bucks and including the price like just to buy the piglets it's 450 but they look pretty happy I'm actually not having to feed them very much food right now well they won't eat very much food right now because they've got so much other stuff to eat that'll change soon if you haven't plumbed with Paulie before you'll be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is okay you want to hold that there kiss I like this I video you do all the work yeah now you know what it's like being me all the time hey guys it was critical you could put two but look at this that one doesn't even have one I just realized I'll step on that kind of push it down there where it's gonna go this is a magical invention this is the pig nipple waterer this thing is like magic sure should we put it just like that right there or just maybe up there is better yeah okay all right I'll turn the water on and you tell me if the water tell me if it works okay Beyond okay a lot of air coming out oh there we go that's great so pigs are pretty smart they figure they'll bump they'll be curious and they'll bump it and then the water will come out yeah let's get all those air bubbles out they won't like that yeah some extra water just yeah it'll just go in there this is awesome so pigs go water yep Pig's got food Pig's got pasture they got a electric fence what else they just need time yep so in five six months Kezia is gonna make another video and that video is going to be us harvesting the pigs and she already told you how much they cost she told you how much food they'll eat and at the end of it will tell you how long it took and how much they weighed and how much meat we get out of them okay so check back for
