all right so my mid-range 12400 F system is back and today we are testing Horizon forbidden West with the RX 7600 GPU non XD so the 8 GB version and uh that is paired with ddr4 3600 megatrans per second C 18 memory we'll be testing at 1080P 1440p and 4K currently we're just at 1080p native uh on the high preset I think medium preset not sure but we'll be testing multiple presets here as well so just want to show you 1080p and uh we don't have any upscaling enabled here and if we have a look at the graphic settings here it's just on the high preset right the the reason for that is that once you switch onto the very high preset or switch over to the very high preset just have a look at the frame rate there it's uh it tanks quite a lot and then you'll see that the the system memory would increase quite a bit as well I started off at around 13 gab of system memory used and now we are sitting at almost 20 and the reason is uh textures we are running out of vram even though the game does not tell you that we're running out of vram it shows that vrm used is 6.3 GB it's uh it's definitely running out of VM yeah so just going to do a short Benchmark run here at these settings this is probably not how you how you expect to play this game unless you're aiming for 30 frames per second it might drop down below 30 frames per second even if we if we go too much into system raming you can see we are touching the uh 40 frames per second Mark there and unfortunately 8 GB GPU is on the very high preset in this game is going to have a tough time but luckily we can just drop it down to the high reset and even use FSR set2 quality like I'm not a big fan of using ups scanting at 1080p but if you want to reduce your vrm usage that's definitely a good way to do it so this is just my Benchmark run from this uh small shop here over the bridge and then back so let's just see if we drop this down to the high resent you can see that our average there like 45 frames per second not ideal and our 1% and 0.1% lows are like having hovering around 30 frames per second definitely not what you'd want all right so let's just go ahead and drop this down to the high preset that was a nice flicker so you can see immediately our frame rate went up to 55 frames per second I just want to show you if you drop this down to medium just look at the frame time graph there how it Smooths out so I think 1080p medium is probably where you'd want to play this game but we'll we'll start off on the on the high preset anyway or continue on the high preset let's see if we can maintain 60 frames per second I highly doubted the FB time graph does look slightly better than at on the very high preset as I said that's definitely because we were running out of BM you can see our system memory went down quite a bit as well and a frame frame time graph smooth out and we are getting around 60 frames per second here I was not expecting that because my previous testing we we were running out of VM with these settings as well give it time it might it might still do that one option that you can enable is dynamic resolution scanning it seems to work quite well in this game it doesn't drop below 60 that much before it kicks in and adjust the resolution for you and that might also help mitigate some some over usage of vrm right so there we have it that run was an average of 62r 1% closer sitting at 51 and our 0.1% glows are suffering quite a bit all right so let's just drop this down to the medium preset and uh then we'll play around a bit with FSR and stuff right so on the medium preset and let's go ahead and uh restart our counter there now you can see I did not restart so we we went from below 50 frames per second to around 90 frames per second just by dropping to the medium preset and this is probably where I'd recommend you play this game this is a 1080p native so 1080p native on the medium preset getting around 100 frames per second it still looks plenty good this is one of the one of the better looking games I've I've seen so far I can really understand why the the PlayStation Fanboys were gushing over this game so much when it released I mean the story might be slightly boring to some people there's a lot of discords around this game I quite enjoy it and it surely does not hurt looking this good either now one thing that I you can just see during movement the the point of my spear there it's very very blurry one thing that you have to do is just uh go to graphics and disable motion blur right I don't know why it was on 10 even so just dis a motion blur and you'll see that the image is a lot lot better all right so I'm just going to continue from here on out with the with that let's just try the the high pret right and uh you can see we're dropping to 65 frames per second here and if we then enable uh FSR so we'll just uh that's not where it is FSR quality and it does not seem like our frame rate increased at all uh pressing the wrong buttons here so let's just uh reset the numbers our frame rate did not change at all which is quite strange maybe slightly higher and over okay now it's definitely higher does it just take a bit of time now it's up and down up and down not sure if we if we are running out of vmia cuz n's dropping into the 50s so I I definitely do think that the 1080p native on the medium preset would be your best bet to play this game if you got an 8 GB GPU I will be testing the RX 370 as well which is a slightly more powerful GPU but it's also only got 8 GB of vram just to make sure that it is actually vram issues yeah but I I I honestly expect it to be because the the system memory usage does creep up quite a bit right so let's go ahead and just drop this down to medium again and we'll just uh make sure that we've got FSR quality here let's see if there's a bit of a difference in performance like not a lot FSR in this game does not look terrible so if you if you don't like uh ta which is the the only native option if you've got an AMD GPU unfortunately you do have daa with an Nvidia GPU now you can see our frame rate is creeping up into the 120s with FSR set quality once again not the biggest fan of upscaling at 1080p but this actually does not look bad at all and with the FSR 3.1 slated for release sometime soon I can only hope that the image quality improvements are significant and then maybe maybe it'll be worth it to enable upscaling at 1080p we'll have to see even dless s I'm not I'm not a big fan of using dlss even at 1080p even though it does have a better image quality in most games I'm not going to Advocate upscaling at 1080p all right so there we have it uh pretty decent run actually and still looks pretty good we've got an average there of 113 frames per second our 1% lows are sitting at 83 and our 0.1% lows are sitting at 78 okay so let's let's drop this's go back to the high preset here and then we'll change to 1440p and hit apply there I do think we'll be running into some issues here even with FSR enabled so let's just uh Go With It TI you've got TAA and smaa right and off so that's pretty much it and the game is a definite looker once again there's a lot of discourse surrounding this game I'm not going to participate in that at all I'm just here to test the numbers and Report what I see and what my eyes are seeing is uh something quite good looking all right so getting around uh just in the upper 30s there not the not the ideal experience yeah I think we'll be enabling FSR instead of just going through the presets we'll enable the presets with FSR I do think that FSR would help you quite a bit we are very very GPU B you can see our gpus is just sitting there at 100% and our CP usage there is quite low below 40% so obviously GPU bound so FSR should make a difference here if we're not running out of vram so I'm just going to leave that open and uh let's enable FSR let's see if we can actually see a difference so we'll just use FSR we'll set it to Quality so 39 frames per second that goes to 42 frames per second let's just give it some time see if it actually uh increases the frame rate here I don't think it does so maybe like FSR quality and TAA native maybe there's not that big a difference in the processing power required to run it is quite concerning that the GPU power is dropping into the 130s even at times this GPU is uh very capable of drawing up to 180 Watts even so dropping into the 130s 96 okay that's definitely an issue obviously because the gpus stays very high the CP usage stays very low but our GPU power draw drops considerably into the 90s there for a second or two and hovering around 140 150 which is very low for this GPU actually so I do think once again we are dipping into system memory and it just slows down everything quite a lot the GPU does not have a lot to do in that case cuz it's waiting on the system memory so let's go ahead and drop this down to balanced I just want to see if we can actually let's keep that up I want to see if we can actually get this to a playable uh frame rate on 1440p on the high preset I don't think we we would but uh worth a shot anyway so let's just go to balanced and see as our frame rate increase it's dropped okay okay so we went from 43 frames per second to 40 frames per second okay so I restarted the game you can immediately see our VM or our system memory usage has gone down quite a lot and our frame rate has gone up quite a bit I know that uh it's ideal to restart the game with the settings changes I just wanted to to see if we can actually get away without restarting the game unfortunately we can't but we are still dropping into the 40s here so it might have temporarily resolved any ISS or cleared the system memory increasing the performance here but at the moment we are still struggling even at FSR balance so the high preset at 1440p definitely uh off the table yeah unfortunately I think that's where we're going to leave it for the high preset so we can just uh drop this down to medium and let's run it at a native once again and just see so TAA Nat 1440p on the medium preset and we are getting a high frame rate than what we had on the high preset with the FSR balanced we are seeing 60 frames per second yeah so there's definitely a very big difference between the high and the medium preset it still looks very very good especially at 1440p everything's still looks very crisp at Native here we are getting 60 frames per second we are dipping below 60 every now and again not the end of the world I would I wouldn't mind playing like this at all if you if you are aiming for a 60 frames per second experience unfortunately with a GPU like this you are very hard pressed to to actually try and push for a higher refresh rate experience that's not why you buy this GPU you just buy it for a solid 1080p experience or maybe 60 frames per second at 1440p I don't think we're going to get a high refresh rate experience here so let's go ahead and enable some upscaling here so we'll use epor I'm just going to use the the quality preset here let's see if we actually get a a performance boost like we we're not and okay there we go a slight performance boost so 70 frames per second yeah it it probably won't dip below 60 like we saw it dip earlier the frame rate is quite a bit higher just crossing this bridge I'm not going to do a a full run here just going to turn back and not uh dropping below 60 so that's definitely good 1440p FSR quality still looks plenty good you can drop this down to balance and it'll still look uh pretty good obviously that's uh that's just a personal choice personal opinion A lot of people will prefer not enable the the balanced preset but in my opinion it still looks pretty good okay so if we go to balanced here I just want to see how high we can actually push this frame rate so getting 80 frames per second here let's reset our numbers like the gains aren't that much sure we went from like hovering around 60 frames per second to hovering around 80 frames per second and for those of you aiming for a 90 frames per second experience this might be the way to go even though we are we won't hit that all the time right I mean we're not even hitting it now and I don't think dropping down to FSR performance is worth it right so the only other option we have is to enable the low preset and uh see if we can get a high refresh rate experience although I I highly doubt it so let's just leave everything as is and enable the the low presets so getting 78 frames per second yeah and okay just look at the textures in the background there none of it uh are loading that's actually quite funny but we we went from anisotropic filtering to trilinear filtering so um that's going to be quite a hit to our image quality okay um this is not what the game is supposed to look like obviously so I'm just going to restart it again and I'll be right back okay okay so after a restart this is what the game looks like still uh this is I don't know this this is probably just a bug let's see if we if we get closer if it actually loads in we you can see the vram usage there is pretty low there we go loaded in that one did not load in yet okay uh I'm I'm pretty sure this is a still a bug as you get closer to stuff the textures will start loading there we go now we've got a nice looking amount mountain and fortress on top of the mountain there and we are getting around 90 95 to 100 frames per second your average is 100 frames per second which is pretty good the game still looks pretty good so if you if you do have a 120 HZ monitor this is probably where where you'd be playing at if you if you want uh close to a high refresh rate experience at 1440p I was not expecting us to hit 100 frames per second here in this game with this GPU but uh yeah we are right uh that's going to be for 14 40p Let's uh move this over to 4K and see if we can actually game at 4K so the moment you move away those textures unload okay this is uh quite funny okay but before we do that if we drop this down to the low preset yeah I think it's just the texture quality so there you can see it actually increases so on low we've got the very low that's very high on low we've got the very low texture detail at uh at these settings right so very high you can see it starts popping in and low there's just no textures okay so anyway 4K here we go okay so 4K let me just reset the numbers 4k on the low preset with FSR set2 balanced yeah the game looks phenomenal the I'm actually recording this on a 4k monitor so to see it a native resolution none of the blurriness all of the sharpness it it looks B ular even on the low preset so I do think that the texture quality setting only affects the draw distance of textures right as we move closer they they start loading in so I don't think it's an issue with the I don't think it's a bug I do think that it's a feature okay so as we as we move away from objects the the textures unload to to save some VR I think that's pretty much what the texture quality or one of the things the texture quality does in this game but we I mean this is actually very irresectable I was not expecting close to 60 frames per second here at 4K sure it's the low preset with DLS or FSR set to Balan but definitely not not the worst experience I've had on this RX 7600 recently so I'm pretty sure we can maintain 60 frames per second yeah those textures are just so funny um I think let's just the the textures should not affect our performance unless we we run out of vram here so if we go to medium textures let's just see if we if we drop performance I'm not going to do a full Benchmark run here so we're still hovering around 50 so maybe maybe we are just overexerting our our vmia so 49 55 okay so unfortunately at 4K we'll have to use a low texture quality okay so let's just go ahead and enable FSR performance here let's see if we can actually we get 60 frames per second oh there we go so let's just uh reset our numbers whoops I'm not even in game reset the numbers so 63 frames per second I don't think we'll be uh maintaining 60 frames per second at all times but this is definitely not not terrible except for the very low draw distance of textures okay but then again this is an 8 GB uh GPU 8 GB vram GPU it's an entry mid-range I mean this is the the lowest uh 7,000 serus GPU that you can buy currently so I'm just going to call it entry level 7,000 series and for it to get 60 frames per second at 4K I mean sh we're running at performance so it's a 1080p so performance up scanning it's 1080p so not really 4K but the the output is very crisp very sharp and definitely playable if you just don't look up but even even the road textures don't uh don't show up unfortunately sacrifices have to be made if you want to run at 4k on 8 gab gpus and um there you go right so that's going to be it for this video hope you guys enjoyed it if you did hit that like button hit that subscribe button and as always we hope to see you in the next one
