this is toys this thing I made the inventor of this cry okay so do you remember you used to do a show obviously you remember called I'd fund that I'd fund that or go fund yourself well was called I'd fund that but in this case he demonstrate he said we're gonna make USB keyboards with actual typewriter functionality keys the return carriage just like a typewriter and I said go fund yourself nobody's gonna spend $180 on this so let's apparently I was wrong me this letter it's been almost four years since I was on I you know why cuz he's he's basically thumbing his nose elio didn't really know anything we were all rewatching it on YouTube so funny and fairly cringy but the insights you guys provided were spot-on and accurate it was just sheer grit and determination that allowed us to ship the original quirky writer and now the new refreshed quirky writer s and Leo I appreciate it personally the kind words of support after the show and the subsequent tweet that's cuz he was crying well he wasn't okay tears weren't probably weren't coming out it says but I felt terrible and that's why we actually it's because of this product we stopped doing the show because I said I can't do this anymore I can't - founders hopes and in this case I was completely wrong right and Brian is forgiving you obviously it's a kind of timing to hear from you because starting this January I left my day job at Anki robotics and started full-time running quirky toys and corporations we plan to launch a couple of new products this year as well so it's exciting and terrifying at the same time here we go and let's keep in touch now this is interesting because this is I don't remember if the original quirky writer was using old keyboards but this is obviously not an old this is brand new made specifically for the iPad cause look it's got its got yeah it's had keys so let me open this is really interesting I love this does it do anything yeah a carrot your turn yeah it just did it yes okay pulling back so let's create a new document it's it's well-named because it's kind of quirky wordy right yeah Bertie slash quirky okay so so the idea is it was the best of times it was so Tom Hanks makes you know the software version of this that you can get a variety of different typewriters on the iPad we've showed it before in fact I think it might have been an app cap but this isn't actual you know typewriter style keyboard I still baffles me but I guess I was just wrong there's a novelty factor that people want this I like how much is it that is a really great question do I have that in the dock how much it is almost quirky or a writer s it is 299 $300 dollars now how much would you pay okay so it can connect to an Android phone it can connect actually they have less expensive ones as well not so you can get it for $150 at Walmart oh that's the old the older version no that's a pump sorry Brian that's a knockoff so he's already being knocked off by the Chinese folks let's go to the original accept no substitute quirky toys at quirky writer calm that see I think it is a work of art you know and that I have to say we only saw a prototype but but the final version Brian you did a great job man it's really gorgeous dual encoders with volume and mouse scroll functions wireless bluetooth connectivity up to three separate devices there's even a wired USB mode within KR o support it uses cherry blue clicky keys which sound great integrated tablet stand so it's fits right in there macro programmable aluminum returned so that return bar can do a variety of things hmm do you love the sound yeah I mean it's really clicky that's those is a cherry MX blues are great they're really I love those switches I'm writing your biography because I will tell you as a writer myself this makes me feel like more creative it makes me feel like I want to write the Great American Novel or you are authorized biography $2.99 on the website quirky writer s $2.99 $300 limited quantities free shipping in the US you know if he were on the show again I'd say gosh I just I wouldn't be mean I just say gosh Brian I just don't know who would buy this obviously I was wrong somebody would but not me 300 bucks would you buy it yeah i if i were retired and ready to write when i retire you is it so that's okay so that's what's interesting you know I mean this these you know in expense you can get $100 you know Bluetooth keyboard or even less if you want an Apple one it's more and it but it doesn't have as much key travel this really is yeah here you tell me try it maybe you know what maybe maybe just because I haven't tried it oh wow yeah did it missed the first three words I typed but other than that it must have been disconnected he says it's uh it's more you know it'll keep up better if you use the USB mode like physically connected mode um and the majority say this the volume key is the paper scroller thing on the side so I think it makes it's also like a nice little desk you know what it actually just feel good hey see ha ha ha now who's crying now leo and even because it's the app it's a you know it's a keyboard even has autocorrect and all that mm-hmm yeah it's got all that it's got paws brake print screen sis request page up page down and some of this stuff won't work in an iPad of course so this could be used within it this is really a Bluetooth keyboard that can be used as a variety of device but then they were like ctrl tab that's how I use I don't think that works to get you know whatever you call it a system switcher program switcher I presume though this is all macro yeah there you go see that worked okay tab it's quirky tab okay you have to have to have the quirky key which looks like a atomic symbol oh so you can connect up to three device yeah yeah I really think it does feel good I you know it's kind of silly to buy an iPad and then have a physical $300 typewriter keyboard but you know if you were to get cherry blue switches on a keyboard for your computer it cost you you know close to that that's that you know good keyboards are not cheap so Brian I'm glad you you survived my I wish this did something volume oh yeah there's two of them oh so for those of you remember typewriters this is the plate knob or the platen knob right turns the platen so if you had paper you turn this right right right take out the paper I think I think it's more for people like your dad yeah who remember a physical typewriter I remember a physical typewriter I remember a physical electric typewriter yeah I mean that's in college I used a manual typewriter to write all my papers but I thought those days were god I actually you know it's really very cool it's very cool I like it has some real charm and I think the problem with the original one was the angle was a little automatic going to the coffee shop yeah and pulling that out you'd get you know all the all the all the guys that come over and say hey mmm-hmm what the hell is that yeah when I'm retired if I happen to be single then that's what I do by this when you're retired from your husband yes no you know there's a certain charm to it it's I wish you could get it down to 150
