gosh you know it's so funny Jay Pharoah I work with Jay Pharoah on the movie top five we were in we were in the movie together top five with Chris Rock and then Yvonne orgy uh sometimes we like to go on vacation together we went it was Yvonne a Nissi Nash Kelly Stewart and me and we went and celebrated New Year's together in Mexico oh we had the best time because you know when girls get together you just start you start off talking good you'll be praising the Lord for all the opportunity and then you just get nasty [Applause] influencer she was there too we had a good time so I'm so glad both of them my friends are here so I can talk to them and I'm just it's a good day today John Murray good morning good morning good morning listen I've not been on vacation with Yvonne orgy but I met her at the White House oh you know President Obama used to have those big uh Christmas parties right so when I went upstairs I was like you remember me I mentioned the White House she's like you say it every time I'm like I know cool thing to say and Jay Pharoah did not go to Norfolk State but he was on the radio station at Norfolk State you know I went to Norfolk State so we got a little connection there as as your niece went to normal the green and the gold Norfolk State but it's a great day today yeah so it is a great day uh oh and so I want to tell y'all because I talked about this uh Jeffrey's graduation uh was yesterday and I I let me tell you something I went to my baby's graduation I don't have many pictures because I cried my lashes off the whole time when I and um and it was chomping on that daggone gum I was sitting that boy and I you know and I was sitting there and I was trying to like communicate with my eyes take the gum out your mouth which made him Chomp on it more but you know it was I gotta just take my head off to to this being a single mom we were late and rushing he was at school I'm trying to get everything on I you know without Theo I don't know how to put this wig on I really don't and so I'm trying to do flat iron it I got this so-called got to be glue I think I put too much on my head because I had it and my hand was sticking to my head trying to put the wig on and then Jeffrey calls he forgot his belt and I said it's almost time for the graduation I gotta go I'm trying to do this and he said I got to get my belt you got to bring it now so I'm trying I gotta bring his belt to the school come back in an Uber trying to get dressed trying to put on makeup it I think I had purple over here and orange over here for my eye shadow then I ran out because I didn't want to wear the heels I ran out with two different shoes in The Uber we had to come back and you and I was just like it was crazy John but I finally got to the school rant found the seat and then you know you try to sit and see where you're gonna be able to see the cameraman was right in front of me so I'm doing like I'm doing like that the whole time but here's where I just I couldn't hold it together because so many of the children all of them they said I want to thank my mom for being there for me and every and then everybody 30 kids uh gave a speech and I was like everybody give it a speech but to to hear the kids thank their mother and then they came towards the end of the ramp and gave their parents a rose and every mother was just bawling because and I'm not downplaying what the fathers do you are so amazing fathers but I'm just the motherhood you know your baby graduating and the sacrifices and when you know especially you know you did that and boys especially they they their mother is their safe space when your kids are testing you and trying to you know and talking to you crazy it's like you're their safe space because they won't do it with anybody else but you because you are you are the place that they can land and so I was bawling and we hadn't even got to the H's yet the last I'm just balling so Jeffrey gave his speech and he gave he you know here's the thing Jeffrey is cutting me off at the knees because he tells me I can't talk about him and he and he's like don't talk about this and don't and I go that's why I had you because I got material [Applause] and at this age if when I tell you with so many funny things and he was like you are not to talk about it but he gave such a wonderful speech and I'm I'm bawling and his daddy was right there behind me because his daddy came his dad was there his brother and his sister were there and I'm just balling and his father's balling and he had one rose and he said and I'm going to give this Rose to my mom and my dad and I got up my reading glasses fell off my face I'm bought my eyelash was hanging halfway on my cheek and I took and I and and Jeffrey hugged me and I couldn't stop I just couldn't stop crying because I you know you remember your kids from when they were little and all of the milestones and the failures and the heartaches and the joy up until this point and he kept going mom really stop but I gotta tell you my baby graduated high school and um oh my God oh my gosh I will never forget it oh my God but then after that I wanted to meet all of the other kids he was like okay you can leave now I want to introduce my daddy that's what he said he said I want to introduce my daddy to everybody and I was like yo yo Dad okay all right so uh we took one picture I took one picture with with uh his father because his father gave me he gave the rose to his dad and his dad gave it to me and I took the Rose from Jeffrey's dad and I looked at him and I said okay don't even think uh something about to you know and nothing going on this is just me we got the same kid but we because you know I called his dad one time around two in the morning I thought I was calling Jeff free but I called his son his father Jeff and I said what you doing and it was a two in the morning I thought yeah I think he thinks I still you know [Applause] so that's what I'm saying when he when he handed me the rose he looked at me like three seconds too long I was like no we not I'm crying because of Jeffrey but we had we had a good time you know because I I'll tell parents who was splitting it's all about your child if you can make it about your child's we had a great time so shout out to single mamas try to hold it together and I want to shout out some of my staff who have been elevated to the new positions on the Sherry show I want a shout out for me to win because she's going to be my new executive producer alongside John Murray bernita's right there in the pink next to me and on the other side of me is Joelle Dawson Kalia who's going to be executive producer denim Joelle and then right over there in the black is Siobhan Shonda she will be co-executive producer of the Sherry show and then over here in the blazer for the first time Dan Fitzpatrick who is also co-executive producer along with my producing partner and executive producer John Murray so that's my dream team I'm very excited about second season y'all come back just expect the unexpected that's what it's gonna be 52 gonna be it's gonna be lit and I want to say the fourth annual black women in Comedy Festival is this week in New York City with all the women right here I love this I love this so much because this lab Fest is a five-day celebration that will showcase some of the best the brightest and the funniest black women in comedy and we got comedians from all over the country they have flown into New York for this Festival it is going to be 16 shows all over the city so you can go and there are 29 comedians which are here who are here at the Sherry show today hey ladies and uh and this is a shout out to the owner Joanna Briley directors Frankie Ben and Chandra Daniels um I just want to say I want to say number one thank you for being here but I also want to say stay in this game this is a hard game because you will go to comedy clubs and it'll be one or two women and nine men and a lot of times they will try to make you feel diminished and you know a lot of people don't want to book Comics because they go y'all talking about the same things and that's not true and I would say stay in the game don't let anybody tell you no because this is a heart this is a hard game doing stand-up comedy but if you can stay strong and stay in it no matter what you go through no matter if you're in front of three people a hundred people nine thousand people stay in it and if you can look at anybody look at me look at me because and I want to say this to you there's so much room over here there's so much room over here we're over here by ourselves so I welcome you so come over here and do what I do thank you welcome welcome welcome I love seeing women in comedy absolutely now y'all WNBA player Kalani Brown went viral for taking a picture with rapper Lola Brook now y'all Kalani is six six Lola is four nine now here's the moment that they connected look at these two right here okay look at this picture of these two this literally Lola is literally Lola is four nine she's she's not she's two inches shorter than me but when she's standing next to Kalani she looks like she getting picked up from daycare this literally looks like baby's first day of school and I just got to give a shout out to whoever took this picture kudos to you because it's hard getting a tall person in the frame with the short person they took that picture all the way from the nosebleed section and this is and I would say to Lola I I would love to see y'all on the girls night out don't let Kalani get drunk cause you trying to drag her and put her into your little Fiat but I'm so glad y'all friends I'm glad you connected this is a great picture goodness yo don't go from the hit show insecure all right now they've teamed up in the new horror flick the blackening please I love the energy the energy insane yes that's why you you have to um and this is why you have to make the Sherry show a stop every time you promote [Applause] I'm so glad both of y'all here I love I love the blackening so much and Yvonne what I love about you because I've been watching this commercial you are a big fan of daytime talk I've seen you hosting fill in on daytime talk shows and you created like the iconic talk show moment with Tom Brady in your hurts commercial look at you you got the couch and everything is that something that you love doing I love it because I like people you know there's some comedians who don't enjoy people yeah you gotta like people to do a talk show and and so when Hertz when this happened I was like so they just want me to like basically act like I'm the host of a talk show somebody up baby okay um well then I would like to ask you is that something that you would like to do is a talk show Mommy I mean is there opening you to Obama Tom Brady thought he was slick he was staring right at the booty he was staring there [Laughter] yo man Jay I I'm I you we know you from SNL okay you are so thank you now here's the thing we because we're we're we're all stand-up comics all of us and we'll be doing a tour you know that sounds good well this one here though we we share love of comedy and we also have the luxury we didn't get to go to our prom no and no we didn't why didn't you go to prom I didn't look because I was I went through a transition of metamorphosis I was like 250 uh really yeah and then I lost 75 pounds within like four months my senior year okay last year was a total transition for me also with my grades as well I just when I when I decide to lock in I lock in that's what happened right so um actually the before and after picture you do oh no you don't know I don't have those this looks like Barney but black you know like wow look but I also graduated that year I went from a 2.45 to a 3.06 so it was crazy I was locking in so so the prom what happened you should have been like getting the prom date yeah but I you know I didn't have the confidence I I didn't I didn't get the confidence until I lost the weight oh I love this oh but it's it's a real thing now oh hell yeah wow you got the confidence oh yeah I'm confident now hey what up you know and I love this because neither of us I don't know about you even neither of us were allowed to listen to rap music growing up but your parents they give you do they give you different influences in music so my parents would listen to Al Green they would listen to I said I don't say no [Applause] no no that comes out of my check you're costing money um so they listen to that and then you know Michael Jackson all the old school but Prince they will listen to Prince you ain't gonna let me to listen to Ludacris but you gonna listen to Prince like Prince had 29 positions in a one-night stand whoa look somebody fell for that you see that she was like oh Prince he's still he's still he's still making whops from the grave that's what he's doing we got to Define what that is y'all look it up look it up they know they know but you don't want me to listen to Ludacris but you want me to listen to Prince man that's just that's just selective outrage man you know what I'm saying I know a hammer to my little Kim uh CD she did your mother because yeah she did because like my uncle was like what is this nonsense you know it's the one where she was like Nigerian and so he waited for my mom to come home and she's like so this is what you're doing I said she I was like you could have just like broke the CD like or just put a scratch on it she took a hammer and she wanted to make sure and I just dubbed it over uh because you know that's when he could dub CDs and I put algebra notes you know what this is the squash it's so similar that's so funny because my dad took the Ludacris CD from me but it was burnt and then you know what I mean I said okay it's burnt so I'm just gonna swap it out with another color so he he didn't even know he didn't even know that I swapped out that CD man and then he had what was sitting in his in his living room not living well sitting in his room was just a blank CD okay every time he would leave I'll be like I hate to win this too many I'll be listening Ludacris y'all was y'all was sneaky and this is what you write in your book which y'all got to get uh Yvonne's book Bamboozled by Jesus this stuff your book was so good and you talk about it it takes you really like a good glimpse into your life and so what you you got this thing in the book you call it a soft life era yes what is soft life era maybe it's when black women are tired okay we are exhausted from being super women okay and so we just want to not one second yes because you know like from everything like I'm tired of my credit card being the one that gets swiped by me I'm tired of just like just because you know I grew up with immigrant parents and so we watched the my mom was a nurse at Howard University for 27 years she got two knee surgeries and it's just like when when was there ever a vacation when was there ever an opportunity to just do less you know and so even and it's a mentality because it's not even just like oh if they have more money than they'll do it's like no we got money now and it's like no no no that's that I can't do that and it's like yeah like so I am when you talk about being ancestors wildest dreams I'm like what are the wildest dreams was rest because the ancestors could never and so I'm I love arrest I love a nap ministry that's it and you rested yes and just you know you want you want somebody to take care of you I'm not that woman that's like nah I got it I'm like no please do you have it and you over here you uh I heard they told me that you have a crush on one of my besties Kim Whitley you got a crush on Ken Whitley wow she's so sexy I have met her and I've told her this to her face but the thing about Kim I love is her her ability to transform like I saw her on the Jamie Foxx Show and she played that psycho character with the teeth yeah I was like yeah I was like oh there's a bad woman under that you know what I'm saying and then I saw her do oh man I'm telling it was next Friday and she played cookie Sugar Sugar she could get she could give me diabetes I don't care when they told me that I called up Kim and I told her and this is you know what this is what Kim had to say look over in that camera what Kim had to say to you hey Jay I heard you got a crush on your girl and I know that you do over 200 Impressions and for every impression you got I got a woman for well guess what I got Beyonce [Applause] I got your machine when they go low we go or do you just want regular old kill well here I am and I'm gonna leave the door open Sherry don't touch my man well I guess I got we I guess we got to do it now hold up how come he get to have his Crush desire is filled what about me who was your question say I love you he asked I know I tell you this the next time you come back we gonna have we gonna make this happen all right that means you gotta come back well I know a lot of people they got to make sure it ain't nobody I like damn what I'm gonna be sitting here getting Trevor Noah for you for a girl I mean yeah now we got to talk about why you're here because the blackening I love this movie so much I saw it twice this movie it made me laugh so hard Yvonne tell us about the blackening okay so the balcony is basically it's a it's a horror satire because I know the black people's like I'm not I can't see it I can't see it I'm not gonna get scared It's A Hard side so there's there's comedy in it as well but it is basically about these group of friends who go to a cabin in the woods also black people would never but we got to get a entryway in there some way um but the whole point is that now they run into a killer who is like we're gonna start knocking off whoever is the most black uh amongst y'all and so now they have to play a game and it's just like well how do you decide who's the blackest um and so that that's kind of the the commentary behind it you know especially you know when Obama became president was like he's not black enough but what that mean like he's from outside of Chicago yes that's like yes and it's funny too when you say that question it's like everybody we have different it's all different types of black people everywhere and we're represented heavily in this movie and it's like you can't measure somebody's Blackness off of knowledge of the Black Culture you can't do that you know what I mean we are not monolith we are all out here we out here yeah and we need to be talking about absolutely but then in the movie they do start to try to uh measure the blessing so it's like one person's like well I'm not black enough because I voted for Trump twice yeah what I love is it it got every stereotype and everything that we ever thought that we would scream at a horror movie that we wouldn't do y'all covered it all yes covered it all and I couldn't stop laughing this is a movie you gotta see go see it at the theater with a bunch of people with a bunch of black people with a bunch of black people because it's an interactive experience and this is one you can Shout at the movie screen now why oh that's her white side I heard somebody say that Uncle we wouldn't do that uh-uh all the time yo watch it bring all your peoples out and please support it come out Juneteenth weekend like black on black on black black on black on black [Applause] here I ain't I'm not laughing so blackening his because um that was the question I was trying to answer for the past hour I love this and I love this about you because you've been happily married yes but you happily married you were not a fan of your wife's Hobbies yes um I would just point out that my wife is a white uh person um and um I only point that up because um she likes to go jogging and she was like during the pandemic she was like babe let's go jogging you know let's let's go running I was like you're faster than me if you went jogging would look like I was chasing you right like that'd be great you know and then the cops would just be like yeah we got a black dude chasing a white woman out here um here's the weird part there and matchy matchy Lululemon outfits right so I tell her this and she's like fine fine just go by yourself and I was like yeah great just a black man running down the street that's never been a problem in the history of the world um but I'm just jealous because she doesn't have to take anything when she goes running she just takes her little airpods right and she has her little scrunchie for a ponytail me I gotta take three forms of ID uh blood sample and bail money and everyone says black people we love to run we love to on tracks you see what I'm saying yes on tracks you cannot touch us on a track why because that gun goes off bang and we are out we don't have we don't have any questions we go you're very through your wife but I heard that she likes you to go apple picking yes she does yes when you were they don't when you're married to a white they don't tell you they don't tell you how much apple picking is involved and it's like it's not it's not a little I'm sorry it's not a little it's a lot and um but she was like do you want to go application with me and I was like I'm black we picked everything we're gonna pick controversial controversial too soon we don't just do it for funsies you know what I'm saying so she went but have you ever been it's actually it's fun okay okay get it get a white friend and go and um it's fun I went out there and I was I was picking the apples but there's this philosopher Carl Jung who said I remember this in college he said everything that your ancestors feel you felt right and and so I I felt that for the first time in this field but because by the third row I dropped my basket and I was like who love a minute it started I was like um [Laughter] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] these are types of apples I had a rag in my back pocket for some reason I was like they're working so hard Lord that's ladling water I was like way to get a ladle I don't know guys I don't know but it's it's fun you know so you got a Jordan you got children but you think that you think that your son does not look like you because he doesn't I have I have a white son and um it's cool we took the test he's mine um his name is Malcolm by the way Sherry Malcolm yes and uh well we didn't name him that after we saw him so um it was when my wife was pregnant so we were like okay let's name him like Malcolm L hash Malik make white people uncomfortable X right yes nine months later he come out looking like Malcolm in the Middle you know what I'm saying it's cool it's cool my son doesn't look like me but that's okay sometimes because he's like a handful he's very entitled where do you get that from uh so at the playground one time he took off his diaper and he put it on this other girl's head oh he did yes this was in Manhattan and he runs around and he's like no rules no rules and then these very bougie Manhattan parents are like whose Child Is This whose child is this and I was like clearly not mine so um I blame the music that they listen to uh where are the fathers and you so you read to your kids all the time but you said that there are some books that you will not read to your kids yes I know we were trying to ban these books but there's there I'm not on that wagon but there is one book in particular I would ban and that is green eggs and ham I don't know if y'all have read Green Eggs and Ham lately I'm about to destroy your childhood but like but in Green Green Eggs and Ham right it's to me it should just be a one-page book about what consent okay all right do you want these eggs and ham no end of the book Nine Pages later how about with a fox how about in a box right having to keep your eggs and ham out of my body okay like right I mean what am I teaching my child here right he said I do not want it here or there I do not want it anywhere no means no right what am I teaching my kid here
