how big a historical figure do you believe her majesty was in relation to some of the huge historical subjects you've had previously oh I think she's right up there yes I think that were we to give Supra case to our monarchs which we tend not to since Alfred the Great uh we would call her Elizabeth for good Elizabeth the uh dutiful um she was somebody who who really is able to take her place amongst her ancestors in terms of the achievements then and you've you've laid it out very clearly as well she was one of the great monarchs of British history as well what Andrew were the standout achievements of her majesty the queen oh well I think um uh they're pretty much endless what she did was to give us a series of um set of sense of calm and stability in 70 years which have actually been been pretty difficult at times for um Britain we have had the end of Empire of course at the time of sewers and she essentially through her love of the Commonwealth and her belief in the Commonwealth got us through that I mean end of Empire can be tremendously traumatic look at what the french did in Algeria look at what the Russians are doing at the moment in Ukraine but we did not go down that path and partly because the queen as I say was ready to transition to the concept of the Commonwealth which he loved so much we've had all sorts of internal reactions and upsets in this country uh over the years but we've always had a power above politics that has been calm and has been Resolute and has been um very much apolitical non-partisan and that has been invaluable for us as a country um Andrew it wasn't so long ago that it was in fact just over a week ago you wrote in this spectator just around the 25th anniversary then of Diana's passing and how the monarchy World survived Diana's death my question then becomes I suppose will the monarchy survive the Queen's death and and not because just of her Legacy but in terms of you know his majesty King Charles III now will he be able to then get his legacy moving forward and the monarchy then survived from that I think so so long as he learns the the key lesson of his um mother's Reign which is to stay above politics not to be partisan we remembered with King Charles III um some years back that he that he used to write ministers letters a great deal on occasion he let it be known that he didn't want to have dinner with the Chinese leaders for example when they visited this country he's not going to be able to take those kind of political stances when he's King he knows that of course he's been waiting uh in the wings now for 70 of his 73 years um and so he is prepared he is ready and I think he'll be a great king
