hey guys what's up it's cherrycuber and in this video i'm going to be talking about the new chi clock which just came out now as i'm sure you guys know i am not a clock solver i've actually pretty much only solved one once or twice i looked up a tutorial years ago when i got my rubik's clock but i haven't really sold it since then but a new clock has finally come out people been waiting for a new clock for years it's been so highly anticipated in the clock solving community just because there's not really many better alternatives like the rubik's clock is one of the better ones really which is kind of sad when a rubik's brand puzzle is like the best in an event so we finally have a new clock from qiyi so even though i don't do clock i wanted to check this out and see if it would maybe motivate me to kind of get into the event a bit so let's go ahead and get into this oh very nice wow that actually looks pretty great so you get a nice little stand for it that's very handy and then pamphlet and some cards all right so here is the puzzle you can see we have a black side with like white clock faces and then the reverse on the other side so white with black clock faces that looks really clean and then as you can see the pins also change colors the pins feel really nice i is that are they magnetic [Music] i think they might be there's definitely a really it's a really nice uh feel when you push it it's very very solid you really know when it's been pushed in um let's go ahead and see kind of what these gears feel like okay wow yeah those just feel good i gotta say i've never really reviewed a clock before so i don't really know what to talk about i mean in terms of quality i haven't really felt that many clocks other than uh just my standard rubik's clock it's really the only thing i can compare it to this is uh like a genuine actual rubik's clock and the movement is definitely definitely a lot more stiff it also there isn't as much of a definitive click between each turn as you can see it there's a lot of give right in the gears but on here it feels a lot better it definitely feels much much more precise yeah everything feels really really great uh oh what have i done here oh no yep i think i've done it now yep i okay i've definitely scrambled it now i don't really know what i've done but yeah basically the objective is pretty much just to get all of these pointing upwards on on both sides so uh the solve is basically in two steps so you just solve one face then you flip it and solve the other one so clock is definitely a really interesting wca event it really doesn't really fall within the realm of a twisty puzzle right at all it's a totally different shape it doesn't have layers or pieces or anything like that it's just something completely different and it's kind of uh i guess sort of a relic from like the old days of the wca when there were a lot more different kinds of events besides just you know rubik's cube type puzzles right you had magic and master magic and stuff like that and they're also like on official events too for like rainbow cube and things like that i think rainbow cube may have been an official event i'm not actually sure but yeah you know like there was just different types of puzzles in the wca and the clock is one that stuck around a really long time mainly because it's not trivial right with magic and master magic those are basically trivial solves it's just how fast can you execute a set solution i think one thing that's really attractive about clock to a lot of people is that it's a relatively easy event to get into from what i've heard uh you know it doesn't take a ton of practice to get to a pretty respectable speed and to get world class is probably the easiest to do out of all 18 events so what i'm gonna go ahead and do is learn how to solve this um and practice clock for a bit see how fast i can get within like a day or so and then come back to you guys maybe do a couple solves and hopefully have a little better idea of just how good or bad this clock is i don't know so i'll be back with an update on this puzzle after i actually know how to solve it all right so we are back with the chi clock i've now actually learned how to solve a clock and i've got to say this event is actually really fun the method for it's really really easy this really took me like two minutes to learn and after about 50 solves or so of practice my pb is all the way down to 18 seconds not too bad after 50 solves i'm definitely want to keep practicing more but yeah this is a great puzzle it hasn't given me any problems it's functioned really really well i read into this puzzle a little bit more and it turns out there's over 200 magnets in this there's 204 magnets in all of the gears and then there are four magnets uh one for each pin this puzzle also can be tensioned so if you look on this side you can see these little four screws i totally didn't notice this before but i guess you can control like how tight or loose the gears feel pretty much and if you unscrew them completely uh you can take it apart and lubricate it yourself so they've made it very accessible to customize this clock even further which is great so to my understanding in most clocks um there's basically just like a little piece of paper on each side that has the design kind of printed on it but it looks like on this one there's basically just two solid pieces of plastic that are the two different colors and there's actually a lot of really nice detailing if you get up close on this so if we look at these faces closely you can see the designs is actually more of like an inlaid plastic than it is like a printed thing also on the very edge here you can see the mofang logo embossed into the plastic there yeah i just i really like the way this looks it looks very very professional and the black and white colors uh is definitely preferable i would say to like blue and dark blue so i can totally see why people like this event it's definitely the easiest to get into i would say like there's no algorithms the method is very simple and there's really not like an advanced version of the method you just get better with that method the notation's also really interesting i had to learn that as well it's actually not as complicated as i thought it was going to be when i first looked at it it looks really confusing when you first pull up a scramble but it's it's actually pretty simple uh the one thing that confused me was that in the scrambles there are sometimes moves that don't really do anything basically the way that the scrambling works is you start with all of the pins down and then you basically go in a clockwise order around each corner and you push up the pin and then you do a certain movement of this gear and then you would push up this pin and go around and then after you do that then you would do the top two pins which would move these top six and then you would do right and then down and then left and then you would go all up do some kind of movement of the pins and then flip it over and do the same thing on this side except on this side you're only moving pins in groups of two however sometimes you'll have a move where you move a pin up but then you don't rotate the gear at all and i was really confused as to why that was but my friend steve griggs actually explained it to me on stream yesterday and the way he explained it was basically that the scrambles always go in that order and they always have like the same number of moves however sometimes in a scramble you just don't need to turn a certain corner uh so instead of just not writing the move they just write the move with a zero and it's not really much of a problem to just skip over that so that's kind of why it's done that way so yeah what i think i'm gonna do is like scramble this up and see if i can get like a halfway decent time on camera we'll see how this goes there we go 29 um that wasn't too great i think i want to do one more okay so that is the scramble so let's try this one more time all right there we go 24 that was a bit better so there you go that's what a clock solve looks like a pretty terrible one but there you go anyways though i'm sold on clock as an event i'm definitely want to practice it more uh clock has kind of always been like my number one on like list of events that i would remove from the wca but i might have to reconsider that now i don't know i guess i shouldn't have knocked it before i tried it anyways though guys this is an awesome clock i think even with my very limited clock experience i can pretty confidently say this is the best on the market this puzzle costs 32 on the cubicle.com i'll of course leave a link in the description thanks of course the cubicle for sending this to me for free to review if you guys want to support the channel you can like this video subscribe if you haven't already turn on
