Qantas A330 Business Class: Jakarta-Melbourne Inaugural Flight

foreign like a long 24 hours in Jakarta it was now time to head home to Melbourne on this leg I was flying business class on qantas's A330 as you may be able to tell from some of the earlier shots this was qantas's inaugural Jakarta to Melbourne flight this didn't mean a whole lot there was a nice bouquet of flowers to check in we were all given these nice little baggies with a keychain and a bag tag a nice little Memento for the flight but there wasn't any sort of fanfare really there was no media Alan Joyce wasn't there shaking everyone's hand it was really just like any other flight I was running late as you'll see shortly I got a pretty ridiculous fade done at a barber shop in Jakarta and it just ended up taking way longer than I thought it would I ended up getting to the airport at 7 45 for a nine o'clock flight I got a bit lucky here because during the taxi ride to the airport I got that dreaded text from Qantas saying your flight's been delayed it was only like a half an hour delay so I still didn't have a ton of time but it definitely relieves some of my stress so when I got to the airport there was no one in the queue for check-in I checked in straight away and headed to customs and Security in the security line I was behind the Qantas cabin crew for my flight so at that point I knew I was pretty safe Qantas flies out of terminal 3 here which is a good thing it's the newest and nicest of the three terminals at jakarta's sakanahada airport it's got super high ceilings big Windows where you can see out onto the plane it's kind of got a Hong Kong airport feel which is a really good thing now of course flying business class I got a lounge access from what I can tell there's only two lounges in terminal three the Garuda lounge and the plaza premium Lounge Qantas contracts out the plaza premium lounge and so that's where I was heading I didn't really have high hopes for this Lounge but ended up being pleasantly surprised it was incredibly busy I think this is just a side effect of it being pretty much the only Lounge in the whole terminal apart from garuda's Lounge but apart from that the food was all pretty fresh I believe you had to pay for alcoholic drinks but everything else was free it was this made to order section where you could pick from three things on a menu I ordered the meagerang which was pretty much a 90 Cent packet of megaring with a few extra sides but hey I love meagering so I really did not have a problem with this at all now the lounge also had showers I had been running I've been running from my haircut to the taxi to the airport I was sweaty and so I decided to give the showers a go it's actually relatively nice we've got like 10 10 minutes till I have to go bored [Music] shower was cold but now that I'm out of the shower I'm actually realizing that it's probably not a bad thing because it was a hot shower I would already be sweating by now it's starting to smell like poop in here and I didn't poo [Music] after that little exciting side quest it was now time to finally board the flight okay good evening that's it thank you very much it had been a few years since I'd been to Indonesia so I completely forgot about this secondary water Security check thing at the gate I lost a bottle of water there this is okay thank you I Googled it quickly and I couldn't really figure out what the actual regulation is here if anybody knows like the fine details can you please let me know in the comments thanks hello good how are you thank you this plane is a 12 year old A330 200 with qantas's relatively new business class seats this is a very common business class seat design these days you've got the one to one layout where every seat has direct dial access and the window seats kind of alternate in this window side aisle side layer I luckily got one of the window side seats which just give you a bit more privacy as you're not right up on the aisle hey good are you I've just loaded up I've rided it up the wrong side okay no no worries yeah just said I was like 4A hmm no you know what you throw yourself there is oh yeah yeah yeah yeah sure yeah no worries boys I did a pretty terrible job here to show the amenity kit but it was pretty standard it had toothbrush toothpaste earplugs socks eye mask and some miscellaneous creams the bag is really nice though and I still use it today before takeoff I decided to get changing these and I just saw a guy do it and I reckon it's a good idea while the toilet's still clean a whole bunch of hand cream hand sanitizer so toilet mirror yesterday how you going good how are you very well joining us to suffer aftertaking yeah uh what is a bit of fear it's kind of it's a word I've missed a really terrible way for me to describe what it looks like a pastry sauce okay I'll have that thing yeah the chicken the chicken it's um obviously burst white brand new menu yeah because I've actually not seen any of them okay yeah yeah no worries yeah literally I did all right School fantastic it's even better when I cook it the Snapper is amazing it's better when I do it because the menu is great I was the guinea pig I'm not sure who the guy in front of me was he talked about trying the menu on the flight up I'm not sure if he's a journalist or maybe he works for Qantas I guess the only way to find out is to ask so I'll definitely do that next time foreign we finally pushed back at 9 45 PM the scheduled departure time was 9 p.m so we were running a bit late but this is sort of just typical Qantas these days also our captain today is Captain Paul Hutchinson and first officer Nicole Roy [Music] [Music] all right let's talk about the seat it's already pretty comfortable but it comes with a mattress pad blanket and pillow that just make it really really cozy the seat is completely controlled through this little touch pad button thing move it backwards forwards bring your legs up go into your client position it also has this massaging functionality which was just okay but I did say it was electronically controlled if you were at home [Music] they had to reset the in-flight entertainment due to like half the screen's not working this can take anywhere from five to seven minutes no worries at all except in the business class Suite this means that your seat doesn't work they must all be connected to the same system on the back end this kind of seems like a bit of a safety oversight in my opinion but I guess it is what it is just something to remember if they're going to reset the in-flight entertainment probably get yourself into a comfortable position some bread I'll just show you what we have okay roll so that was a white grain and then the whole wheat okay yeah uh I'll get the white actually tongs would be easier very skillful very skillful very skills leader like you didn't go like that like I said yeah okay I'll show you okay yeah yeah this one will literally sanitize skin off so if you really want yeah it's all right I had some in my bag I just yeah we've got plenty of those things if you need masks okay no no okay thank you I'm generally not a germaphobe I just took a trip to La like three or four years ago and just got the flu I'm pretty sure from the plane and so ever since I have been like kind of germaphobic whenever I step on a plane yeah by the plates on okay thank you so here it is the uh pitivia I Googled it I'm like 90 sure that's how you say it it came with a side of snow peas this onion puree and a salad and bread roll it's kind of ugly eh despite the poor First Impressions I do have to say that this thing was actually really really good the pastry was nice and crisp it had a really nice chickeny creamy filling in the onion pureed sauce works really well with it the snow peas are also really fresh and cooked to Perfection the plating up could definitely use some work and it's not the cruise fault that the plating up was like this the plate that it was on was just too small for the dish but overall I have to say it was pretty delicious I'd equate it to like something you can expect to get from like a mid-range to sort of expensive Cafe that's next to a river I mean that's the sort of vibe it's giving me does an airline want to be compared to that I don't know for dessert I went with the seasonal fruit this is pretty ridiculous it was just three pieces of fruit and some grapes I finished it in like three mouthfuls it was kind of my own fault I probably should have gone for the Madeleine cake thing with cream and caramel and strawberries but you know your boy's trying to stay healthy I'm six foot eight just kidding I'm six foot but I fit I probably have that much Headroom if my feet are touching the bottom try I had a pretty bad night's sleep if you can even call it that it's a six and a half hour flight and I think I only sat for like two or three hours I found this armrest really annoying I kept on bumping my like shoulder on it I wish you were able to get it to drop down it would just give you that extra inch or two of shoulder room that would just make the bed way more comfortable I was awoken by the crew coming around with the breakfast trolley about an hour before landing I was totally out of it and basically just told the flight attendant to go away luckily the crew on this flight was awesome and he came back five minutes later with coffee and another one of these ridiculous fruit plates more generally I found the service really good on this fire all of the flight attendants are really friendly funny attentive absolutely no complaints at all there I rate Qantas generally very high for their cabin crew which may sound weird to some people I think it might be influenced by the sort of homeliness of it for me being an
