just how good is the enchantment wizard well let's find out this is my obviously enchantment wizard build levels one to2 including items and a Combat tutorial so let's jump in obviously level one we start with the wizard now few can trips I would suggest taking three damage dealing can trips that are different affinities so for example I'm taking Firebolt taking rare Frost I'm taking shocking grasp this gives me both Mele and ranged uh cantrips I can use to deal some damage okay Fe of first level spells my choices would be Mage Armor for extra defense I would take charm person this is an enchantment spell and that's what we really want to focus on Thunder Wave because as I've said multiple times Thunder Wave is one of the best spells in the game if you can get this and you're high up and push people over Ledges and insta kill them so so easy Tasha's hideous laughter again another enchantment spell this one will leave an enemy prone with laughter without the ability to get up to have five more intelligence which most enemies in this game do and it lasts for 10 turns really powerful stuff Shield because who doesn't like Shield it's a reaction spell and stops you taking damage and of course magic Missile because it never misses now when it comes to your ability points we're going to have something that looks akin to this we want eight in strength 14 decks 16 Constitution 16 intelligence 10 wisdom and 10 Charisma for your proficiencies take whatever you want want and onwards to level two and this is where we get to pick the enchantment subass this gives us hypnotic gaze charm and incapacitate a creature it cannot attack you it cannot act and you can maintain your hypnotic gaze each turn to extend its duration really good stuff especially at this level we also have enchantment s which means learning enchantment Scrolls only cost 25 gold pieces now for your next two spells I would take long Strider because this is a really powerful spell you can throw it up after resting and it will just last until you need to rest again I would also take sleep this is another enchantment spell and at early levels I do think it has a lot of good versatility if you want another option false life is also really good just to get those seven temporary hit points okay wizard level two we have now sorry wizard level three now have level two spell slots would be helpful if I could say it and first up we are taking hold person holding humanoid enemy still they can't move act or react really good stuff if you are holding on to an enemy any hits against them then become critical from any of your allies really good way of being able to hold a person down and just whale on them and take them out of the fight and because we are going to be controlling the battlefield I would take a misty step you can use it as a bonus action and it can just help you get up high and then you can Thunder Wave can help you get out of the way of danger things like that okay wizard level four we get one more can trip and for this one I would take bone chill now we have necrotic damage but an undead Target receives disadvantage on attack rolls and it stops enemies from healing really good just basic can trip you can throw up and it will help you out in a pickle and for your next two level spells I would take crown of Madness so in still Madness in the humanoid making them attack creatures closest to them other than you even if it's Allied this is really good if you basically have a group of enemies together on one of them and they'll just start attacking their friends I would also take mous acid Arrow it's a big damage dealing attack and I think it's worth it if you really want to you could take a mirror image but I'm going to give you an option for armor that will allow you to not need to do that but this will ra your AC by a maximum of nine might be worth thinking about and for your ASI we're going to bump our intelligence up to 18 okay wizard level five we now have level three spell slots and if we're going to be a battlefield control let's take counter spell grab this and even though it's not a enchantment spell there is no better way of being able to control the battlefield by nullifying other enemies spell attacks to go alongside this we're going to take the glyph of warding I love this spell you basically throw it down and it triggers when an enemy runs into it but what's really good about it is if that you place it somewhere where there are enemies then it will trigger at the end of your turn really good way of being able to pick and choose your damage type and then get it onto as many people as possible okay wizard level six and now we have intin instinctive charm charm an enemy attacking you they will attack a new Target if possible at a reaction so we now have access to more spells and there are loads of options here slow really good one of being able to again control the battlefield for me personally I think if you're going to go down this route haste is a must being able to throw haste on an ally and have them have two actions especially if you can put this on a barbarian or a warrior something like that a lot of damage can be done here um so even though it's not controlling the battlefield per se you are buffing an ally of your choice and giving them basically an extra round per turn really powerful I would also take hypnotic pattern as I pressed the wrong button hypnotic pattern hypn creatures that can see the pattern they cannot attack you they cannot move or act really really nice way of being able to just throw this up or if you are sort of in danger you can stand there hypnotic pattern and if they fail they can't do anything gives your allies a chance to get into the fight and draw aggro those sort of things okay wizard level seven and we get to continue with level four spell slots now and the two we're going to take a conure minor Elemental again focusing on controlling the battlefield throwing up an elemental so you have a summon is a great way of being able to draw aggro away from yourself or your uh Companions and even if the elemental is going to be severely underpowered it's basically just cannon fodder really good way of drawing aggro being able to chip away at some enemies definitely worth taking and one of my favorite spells evard's black tentacles so tentacles Sprout from the ground turning the area into difficult terrain attacking and smothering creatures within I love this spell I use this all the time one of my favorite combinations is evard's black tentacles and the hunger of AAR putting them together is such a good way of crowd control it's phenomenal okay wizard level eight we have access to another feat after we pick our spells and to start with banishment now again a really good way of controlling them Battlefield because if you see an enemy and you just want to get rid of them for a turn banishment is the way to go so take banishment and for our next spell we are going to take lightning bolt so this just as to our versatility of dealing damage but lightning bolt is really good especially if you are against wet enemies or anything like that lightning bolt can be phenomenal and for your feet we're going to take an ASI and bump power intelligence obviously up 220 okay wizard level 9 we have access to level five spell slots now and there's two first options that stand out to me first up conja Elemental so this is conja minor Elemental but better uh and the same theory in my head applies throwing this up good Cannon F good way being able to draw aggro good way protecting your Wizard and hold monster as stated before this is hold person but on steroids really good stuff I love these kind of spells wizard level 10 and this is one of the best Buffs in the game for an enchantment we have split enchantment so any enchantment spell you have that can Target a creature can now Target Two amazing for things like hold monster stuff like that but there is one spell in particular it will come very useful in so first up we're going to take poison spray and we're going to take dominate person make humanoid fight alongside you every time the creature takes damage it makes a wisdom saving throw against your domination great enchantment spell and again sign we can now split enchantment and cast against multiple people now based on whatever you choose to use equipment wise I would take Mirror Image anyway um you might choose to use this something else you could take Fireball something like that because I'm not going to be using the armor that gives you mirror image from Loken but that is my second option for this build I will take Mirror Image cuz I think this is a great way of being a to ensure you can keep your AC high and keep those concentration spells okay wizard level 11 again we get more spells we can pick from so we have a pleer of them and it is worth noting when it comes to level six spells we don't actually get that many slots so bear that in mind it is not worth taking four level six spells in my opinion we're going to take two so we have a little bit of Versatility first up we're going to take disintegrate shoot a thin a green ray from your finger if the 50 to 100 Force damage reduce the target to zero HP it disintegrates so an insanely powerful spell to hit someone with and it's amazing but and this is arguably my favorite spell in the game it's so clutch and being able to use this on two people in my opinion is beyond op uto irresistible dance cause a creature to start dancing making unable to take actions or move its attackers have advantage on attack roles the dance says disadvantage on attack rols and dexterity saving throws and the reason this is so op is there is no saving throw this works on uh Orin it works on gach it works on savaro you throw this up and that person is dancing it's beyond amazing and finally wizard level 12 again really at this point you can take kind of any spells you want any that you think are going to help you be more versatile on the battlefield so you could take things like wall of Fire um this will allow you to obviously cut off place in my opinion you probably want to avoid anything that is concentration just because of the mass concentration spells you already have so my options would be cyc along the lines of chromatic orb and something like scorching Ray or shatter something like that and for the ASI Constitution all the way up to 18 okay so as our Build 1 to 12 shall we now look at some equipment and it's very basic for cloak I re like the cloak of the weave add a plus one bonus to spell save DC and spell attack rolls so this is great for landing your spells on enemies it also has absorb Elemental damage once per short press take half damage from the next Elemental attack targeting you so for example if you know you are going up against a enemy that only has fire spells or something like that you can throw this up and you're going to start taking half damage from fire really good way of being able to nullify magic against you while you deal it out I like the evasive shoes for the simple reason it gives you a plus one to Armor class and to go alongside this the braces of Def fence gain a plus two bones to Armor class as you can see with a wizard we are a 17 Armor class overall now for the robes I really like the robe or the weave get a plus one spell bonus to spell save DC and spell attack rolls Armor class plus two and when we succeed a saving throw against the spell we regain one to six hit points now as I said I do have other options if you don't like the sound of that there is always loken's armor which is this one which looks cooler I will admit it's the shelter of AA it gives you minor illusion and you have advantage on SP saving throws against spells so there's two options here both are very versatile I think it's just a little bit better to take the cloak or not the cloak of the weave sorry the robe of the weave now when it comes to a hood I would suggest the hood of the weave as well fortunately I don't have access to it but that does pair this build off nicely and for a necklace the spell Crux amulet spell slot restoration so as a bonus action replenish an expended spell slot of any level great stuff when it comes to a staff I really like marker share obviously this is probably the stuff that everyone will put on their build come act three plus one bonus to spell save DC and spell attack rolls but most importantly we have Arcane battery now Arcane battery basically the next spell you cast doesn't cast the spell slot so if you toggle this on you have access to even more six level spell slots it's so powerful that's two disintegrates that's two chances at oto's irresistible dance just phenomenal and it also has a plus two bonus to attack rolls and Deals two bonus damage now if you don't wish to use that star for some reason again from Loken there is the option of the despair of aaak however you said again A plus one bonus to spell save DC and spell attack rolls but honestly I don't think it's worth changing it go with marker SH now let's go find some combat and we'll show you just how versatile this is be in mind we're going to do this with no tank in the party so let's see how it goes now please note before you start combat throw Mage Armor up that has taken our AC all the way up to 20 which means our hits are now even harder to sorry our spells are even harder to be broken concentration for because we have such a higher ac they still need to hit us before they can break that concentration now again because of our staff we actually have keser's favor and this basically gives us extra damage with our spells so if our spell deals well sorry to begin with you have to pick which Affinity you want once you've done that your spells that use that Affinity actually do extra damage based on your um proficiency let's take the dark winter which is ice because we have rare Frost so let's pick this fight and I'll show you just how good the enchantment wizard is okay so as you can see we're in combat and Truscott or however you say his name has tried to do reckless attack on us but we have the charm we can use as a reaction so and there you go we have protected ourselves now it won't hit us at all now because the enemy is so up close to us we have options here we can do we have things like charm person we have Autos irresistible dance hold monster H person let's begin with something very very basic and let's do our hypnotic gaze and we do it on the Barbarian and there we go and now what we can also do for example is Misty step out of danger so let's go up to here and as you see we're now away from everyone and again the enemy is talking us we can use another spell slot to do our charm Unfortunately they saved but they did Miss okay so again we're going to keep it basic for now Ray Frost let's just show you how much damage this does there you go 25 damage thanks to our staff which for hand trip with a wizard really really good you see with a 20 AC is so high that they are missing us act three really good stuff here from The Wizard okay so it's back to our turn and we're going to turn on Arcane battery now this basically gives us a free spell and what we're going to do is we're going to use our highest level spell which is Auto's irresistible dance now again usually this would only target one enemy but we can now Target Two thanks to our split enchantment so we're going to Target this guy and this guy and they go as stated they are now dancing and they can't do anything and also as stated now means any attacks on them not only have Advantage but also guaranteed two hits and there we go a very easy way of taking down big bulky enemies and as I said there is no save so we still have it there so if we were to run down here what it now means is we could just continue hitting this enemy so let's just do ray Frost and there you go another 19 points of damage okay so I'm hoping we can take some damage because i' would like to break concentration never mind we fell prone oh well concentration has gone anyway so we're no longer concent concentrating on Otto's dance which is perfect okay so here we are and what we have now is as you can see we still have our sixth level spell slot because it wasn't used up which means we could come back in with another Auto STS or a hold creature in fact let's do hold creature this time we hold monster I should say We'll upcast it and there we go and what is so good about of this is that every hit is a guaranteed crit so into position if we bring our enemies or sorry our allies up here jira can just about hit there you go guaranteed crit stay focused and when this really comes in helpful is when you have a rogue who can do sneak attack and deal 40 damage to the enemy and especially if they dual wield then you can hit them with the off hand as well another 26 damage on one enemy still breathing despite everything and how this works really well is if you have some Synergy in the team for example my r so if you pair this with my fif build from the other day whenever they land a critical hit they gain 10 temporary hit points and deal an extra 10 necrotic damage so if you can get some team Synergy going with these hold monsters you will do Mass damage and continual healing as well as control the battlefield still on my feet now we can attack and it will not break so for example big hit there and we still got concentration on the hold monster and it's just a matter of finishing the fight just like that in fact that last hit was crazy how much did we just do then uh too much way too much but that is the enchantment wizard build I have made it's so good for controlling Battlefield and like I said if you can get that Synergy going with like the sword of Life stealing stuff like that you are just going to mass deal damage heal and fights are going to be a breeze bear in mind we did this without a traditional tank so no lasel no carlac and we still pull through pretty comfortably if you have enjoyed please let me know in the comments
