hello friends so this is going to be a little introduction to the building editor for project zomboid when you first open it up it's going to look a little bit different from mine as you will most likely not have any recent buildings so to make a change in that we're going to hit new building it's going to give you a couple of options up top is the template the template is well the template that you're building is going to start out as so it defines the outside look and the room selection and the look of those rooms you can change all of this later on so it's not really important but it can speed up your working process if you get more into it you can define your own ones if you want to have a certain style or feel to your buildings so for now i think suburban one is a standard one so we're gonna go with that i have a whole bunch more of more stuff but you don't need to worry about that at this point so for the width and the height one tile is about a meter so 20 by 20 meters should be big enough for our first building and now we're just going to hit okay now you're faced with a little bit of a grip to move around in this grid you can press the middle mouse button and you can pan your vision or you can hold ctrl and use the scrolling wheel to zoom in or zoom out and zoom in that's so far i hope very straightforward now the first tool that is up top in the list is the draw room tool it's also selected by default it's well buildings are made up of rooms so drawing rooms is the easiest first step to get started by default it's start it is starting with a well most up-top room these rooms are defined by you and in this case they are part of the preset these rooms with these rooms you can change the look and feel of the room and the type of items that can spawn inside of your room but we'll get to that in a little bit first we're just going to draw a couple of them so to draw a room it has it's going to draw the one that's selected so we're going to start with the living room and we're just going to draw by holding the left mouse button we've got a nice little square living room it's not too bad it's not too good but of course your house is not made up of only the living room at least i don't know where you guys live but my house that isn't so we're gonna add a dining room and it doesn't need to be that big so i can just draw over it and it's going to replace it or i can just draw somewhere else and add a new one with ctrl z of course you can undo all the funky stuff you did and uh you know keep it clean so we're gonna add a kitchen to the dining room so i think three by three squares or three by four works just fine and maybe a bedroom to the side and then add a little bathroom over here we can do that four squares as well so this is going to be the layout for our basic house now maybe you want some of the rooms to have a different color or you want to knock out a room between certain uh certain you know knock out a wall between certain rooms so to do that we have to draw wall tool which is the second or place wall too by default nothing is selected with it you can check that in the interior exterior walls section on the right this shows all the available options that you can draw with exterior walls or all the walls that are on the outside of the building interior walls or of course all the ones on the inside now my selection may look a little bit different from yours as i've added a whole bunch of custom stuff to it which i will explain in a further video so if nothing is selected so none and you draw it's gonna draw nothing so this is a good way to take out a wall so now my living room and my dining room are still defined as two separate rooms for the item spawning but as you can see there's no wall in between them so the players is free to you know move between one and the other you can also do this for the outside of course but that's probably not something you want to do because then all the zombies can get in and everybody's going to have a a bit of a shitty time so we're going to hit ctrl c and undo that so let's say we do want a different color on the wall you can just go in and select any of these as you feel like like even if i want a brick texture on the wall i can just draw that in and it's going to overwrite the basic properties of the wall in this case i don't want to do anything special so i'm going to hit ctrl z and the best way to just change the entire room at once would be to go up top to this little colored edit rooms button here you can see all the rooms that came with preset and you can add new ones duplicate or remove them you can also move them up and down so it's easier to select the ones you're working with and to this case we only have what is it seven so i'm not going to worry too much about it so if you want to change the color you can double click this or press the choose button and it's going to open up this little screen make it a little bit smaller here you can just select any wall texture you want so i'm going to go with something that makes a little bit of sense but you could go pretty crazy with this let's say i want a bit of a bluish bluish living room and for the floor i'm gonna go with a darker darker tile so grime grime is your biggest friend um you can make very clean houses you can make very grimy disgusting houses i like to take the middle option there's two options one which is very dark and one which is a little bit lighter because after all it is a zombie game and you know making things nasty disgusting and looking creepy is part of the vibe um so you have interior walls you have a trim which is a little bit of a it's a trim it's an overlay on top of the wall so we can select one just so we're gonna take the little bottom one just uh for you know viewing purpose floor grime and grime and hit okay as you can see it changes the entire room so now we have a bit of a different floor we have nice blue grimy disgusting walls with a white trim on the bottom and that's basically all there is to editing rooms so we're gonna go continue this video and do the rest of the house just so you get a hang of it so for the dining room i'm gonna go with the same blue but i'm gonna change the trim up a little bit to the one now i think i'm going to keep the trim the same actually because that's going to look good make it look more consistent so in this case i could also have duplicated the rooms but as it's already there and i've already drawn it it's not much trouble to just go through this and it will also give you more of a feel where stuff is for the bathroom i will use i like this blue one and for the floor i do like the matching blue and white tiles so i want a disgusting bathroom you may never hear people say that in real life though but yeah i'd like a disgusting bathroom in this game now for the kitchen let's go with the black and white checker mark and select this horrendous wallpaper and then also select the grime and the bedroom i'm gonna keep it as it is i hit okay and as you can see it's gonna change a bunch of stuff so the thing you need to look out for in defining new rooms is the internal name that the regular name the one that's gonna show up here doesn't matter you can go crazy it has no purpose after this program but the internal name is the name that defines what's going to spawn inside of it that's the same reason that bedroom one two and three they are numbered but the internal name is still going to be bedroom because it's going to spawn bedroom items in the description down below i will provide a link to a forum post which has all the room definitions or the internal names for the rooms so you can actually choose the proper ones if you want to make like a laundry room or a storage room or a garage so for now i'm going to hit ok and that's it for this tutorial thank you for watching next tutorial we'll start with adding some furniture and some doors and windows to actually make it a little bit more livable
