Procreate - Using Automatic Selection Tool

hi there i just want to talk you through some of the basics for the motif making in procreate let's go on to your procreate app right i'm now in gallery view i want to open up just an a4 page so i select e4 and we're going to insert a different line drawing than we did last time so actions menu insert photo so remember we asked you all to photograph the first week of home learning photograph all of your drawings backgrounds to make sure that you had everything ready so i'm going to look for a drawing that i want to use i'm going to use this there we go so you can see your transform tool automatically selects i'm going to use the green node this green node here and i'm going to press that and i'm going to transform i'm going to turn it rotate it and i think in order to make the motif it might be useful to actually remove this bottom half here so to do that i'm just going to make it a little bit bigger to begin with that's not bad and i'm going to go to selection now for this i'm going to go into freehand and all that allows me to do is to simply draw around about the flower okay so what i'm going to do is three finger swipe down i'm going to cut i want to remove that layers menu i'm going to add a new layer copy and paste menu again and paste okay go back into layers i know now no longer need layer one so i swipe to the left delete and that's me i've now got this section that i want to work with i no longer want this kind of paper surrounding it now the paper isn't perfectly flat white you'll see that in your own work depending on what color you're on but there's a great variation it's almost a gradient going from gray on the right hand side to a kind of yellowy white on the left and that's something that we need to think about when we do the next thing so to remove that we go to selection again this time we're going to work with automatic selection now with automatic selection this gradient from gray to kind of really quite well we'll need to consider that for this if i click on about the background just now you will see that it's actually selected little bits here of parts of the flower that i don't want to be selected what i want you to do is the first time that you go into select an automatic when you click on the background hold your finger down and slide it slightly to the right so when i clicked with my finger i then placed it back down and started to drag it slightly to the right you can now see that there's a thing at the top a blue bar that's starting to move and it says selection threshold as i'm dragging this you can see that more and more of that background is being selected but there's parts that i actually don't want selection threshold i would suggest you all try and get that to about 20 in my case i make a little bit lower today so i'm going to start maybe about 15 i'm going to stop there and what i want you to do is to undo so remember to undo you tap with two fingers until you're back at the start selection automatic and it will remember that we've set this to 15 click on a little bit so it's selected a small part zoom in and let me see if i can get these bits selected zoom in undo that's oh that's as much as i think i'm going to get with this so it has taken a little bit out of some of the petals but i don't mind i'm going to cut now i've been left with the outline of the flower the only last thing that i think i'm going to do is rub out a little bit so i'll pick a brush that i think's gonna work can play about with the size of it that's not gonna work i need something a little bit more solid for this what have i got in paint that looks quite good this is a nice solid brush yeah good so i'm going to try so remember you can zoom in which would be helpful i'm going to make that a little bit smaller down here so i can get in for some fine detail now remember you don't need a stylus i don't have one i'm just using my finger here so i'm just very carefully trying to rub out these imperfections that we have so remember use two fingers to pinch to move around your page like you would on your mobile phone and i've been left with that and i think that's a good starting point for me to make my motif
