you have no track record you have not done anything before for your community offer you can never aspire for these offices it will clean up and you you will see everybody lining up to behave because the rule of law is the last hope of any civilization once it goes there is nothing else left so that's what the apostles did here once they sent set the benchmark they now told the people follow these principles to elect and they got seven men for them of course i'll show it to you one more time acts chapter 1 verse 13. this is where they wanted to elect an apostle there were two other persons jesus appointed one fell because of financial corruption judas it was financial corruption that destroyed him now to elect somebody that will replace him there were 120 people there so let's see how they got it verse 13 acts chapter one please possible and read and when they were coming they went up into an upper room we are about peter and james and john andrew and andrew philip and thomas bartolomeo and matthew james the son of affiliates and simon zelotts and judas the brother of james this all continued with one according prayer and supplication with the women and mary the mother of jesus and with his brethren we're going to elect the highest level of leadership like electing a pope highest apostolic leadership the highest level in the church and is by vote so democracy was involved but they put merit to crucifix watch yes the number of them were about what and in those days peter stood up in the midst of the disciples and said the number of names together were about 120. okay 120 people to elect leadership okay watch what they did yes so peter said men and brethren these scripture must knees have been fulfilled with the holy ghost by the mouth of david spoke before concerning judas which was guide to them that took jesus yes for he was numbered with us and had obtained part of this ministry yes 18. now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity and falling headlong he bossed asunder in the midst and all his boys gushed out you see he died and he bought land with the reward of iniquity blood money you see how the apostles describe corruption money you made through corruption through greed a leader church leader at the highest level was just destroyed for it it cost them his life if we have a system that punishes corruption and rewards those that are good you can have a brand new country when there are criterias that criteria helps to sort out even bad leaders even if they end up in office the thing will also help in getting them out of office because here now leadership corrupt leadership is being changed and replaced with a good one so go ahead yes we've gotten rid of judah so what is the next thing how do we replace him and he was known unto all the dwellers at jerusalem so much that that field is called in their proper tongue academia that is to say the feed of blood so his blood money the land he bought with the money his blood is filled of blood blood money lives are destroyed for somebody to just end up with a few millions and billions his blood money and he ended up paying with his own life anyway verse 20. for it is written in the book of psalms let his habitation be desolate and let no man dwell therein and his bishop prick let another take so we are dealing with apostolic officer office of a bishop here okay let's go on verse 21 how do you elect him yes wherefore of this men which have accompanied with us all the time that the lord jesus went in and out among us beginning from the baptism of john onto the same day that he was taken off from from us must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection and verse 23 and they appointed to joseph called basabas who was surnamed justice and matthias so two people after going through the check two people surfaced out of 120 and then what happened to those two people and they prayed and said lord thou knowest the hearts of all men show whether of these two thou has chosen yes verse 25 that he may take part of this ministry an apostleship from which judas by transgression fell that he might go to his own place yes verse 26 and they gave fought their lords and the lord fell upon matthias and he was numbered with voting was the last thing you said benchmark the benchmark eliminates a lot of people and then the ones that qualify then they now prayed and voted don't go and start praying like issue of choosing a life partner there are at least five major benchmarks that you should follow it will eliminate a lot of people for you you don't go to the lord and be asking him this one is in the awkward lord shall i marry him you help me to change him you are a stupid person look this one is in 2419 internet frog lord but you know this boy is hustle where he talks to me i meant can i go ahead you're a very stupid person if you follow biblical benchmark he has eliminated such people because number one is that the bible said you can't even marry a person like solomon who is not a believer number two you are supposed to check their moral capital their moral content you supposed to check that you have not done that if you follow the biblical whatever it will eliminate finally it might now narrow down to two people out of all the people that are checking you or asking for your hand then you can now pray that's what these people did not you go and be praying in the midst of confusion follow the biblical guidelines first the biblical guideline for example in explaining this to my own children i also explained to them now one of the benchmark is the ability to feed yourself to end a living god gave adam a job before he gave him a wife so you want to marry yes what's your job i don't have any where's your profession i don't go and find a job first don't stop looking for a woman you can't feed one person you want to come and feed a family and what some sisters do i know a sister that went to the dad told some like collected money gave the guy to come and pay her down 20 years in that marriage she has tried to live three times to my knowledge oh i said you're not going anywhere you married him so you have to keep feeding him you married an irresponsible man if he can we're not talking about being a millennial being wealthy no if you can't feed one mouth you want to come and start feeding a family involved apart from that woman next to you torture a baby shows up this thing is responsibility leadership is not position is responsibility [Music] so see what the apostles did they used benchmark and one of their benchmark is track record somebody that has been following has been faithful from the time john baptized jesus he has been proving his faithful up to the death and resurrection of christ not just somebody that came out yesterday you are talking about top leadership in the church then one of them so by the time they finish he eliminated a lot of other people and two people showed up that is when they now voted so use meritocracy combined with democracy you know because of the difficulty in application of that i don't want to so somebody in authority said no no we're applying meritocracy so i'm the one that will appoint the next person no that's not what they're talking about the political party have a benchmark and they use that to test the candidates that are coming out the eye neck itself has a benchmark they use that to check the people that are coming we want to eliminate killers we want to eliminate corrupt people we want eliminating responsible people we want to eliminate incompetent people we want to eliminate people who have not done anything who lack national interest so that we can elect responsible transformation of visionary competent leaders and you know in public leadership in all times only the five major qualities are extremely important one is vision you need a man to be a visionary number two is courage he has to have the audacity to do what is right not he knows what is right but he's intimidated he has to be a person of integrity he has to be a person that of humility humility doesn't mean he's a coward his teammate it's just that he has to be so secured in himself to surround himself with people who might be more intelligent than him and he's not intimidated the leader is not meant to know everything so he looks for the best to surround himself he has security he's secured then he has to have commitment that's willingness to pay the price make the sacrifices required to move the nation forward of course the other great qualities too you know if i want to add biblical qualities i would say he also needs to be wise i put it in today's language he needs to have competence must have shown competence at different level somebody that has been tested over time you know and so on and so forth say something before we close thank you sir um as we wrap up i would like to encourage each one of us build convictions based on these principles that have been shared with us let it help you to build conviction now guard your convictions don't submit it to sentiments don't sell your convictions don't allow denominational ethnic sentiments sway your conviction guard your convictions and engage the process with your conviction engage the process as a person of conviction and now how do you be conviction the only issue of prayer listening to god and the biblical values that have been shared today should guide in building conviction that is where the holy short benchmark comes in because some people will go off some will be there and you know who you are for this will be my concluding words personally we read second summary chapter 23. i want to end us with one thought there because whenever you have standards and benchmarks then you meet some people who tell you of all these seven candidates none of them qualified nobody met the whole criteria now there's an answer david is one that gave the answer he said the god of israel said the rock of israel speaks to me he that ruled over men i'm reading second psalm 23 verse 3. he that roulette over men must be just ruling in the fear of god then at the next verse he shall be at the light of the morning when the sun rises even as a morning without clout as a tender grass springing out of the earth by a clear shining of the rain i know you guys know when there is a rainy crowd you don't see the sun very well but you see a bright morning a bright day with where there is no cloud that's how that man is talking about transparency integrity that's how that leader should be but now watch what david added and this is where we are going to close verse 5. look at what he said passover and read it i want them to say or do my house be not so with god yet he has made with me an everlasting covenant ordered in all things and sure for this is all my salvation and all my desire although he make it not to grow david said see the standard this is god's standard god taught me this and the scripture actually attests that his leadership met that standard but when david assessed himself he said although my house was not like that god still made me an everlasting covenant and used me what is the meaning of that he failed in one of the criteria the issue of women you remember the story of david basheba is i didn't get 100 but god see use me now here is the principle stop looking for a perfect leader you won't find [Music] look for somebody scores 98 97 96 look for people who exemplify this at the highest level because if you start looking for that perfect thing then you won't be able to vote at all and it happens even in choosing a spouse some people are looking for perfect husband perfect wife he doesn't have six he's had anger problem abraham hagar i have checked it's only jesus so that doesn't mean you remove standards and go and take criminals and take care of people no you have to set the benchmark but you use the benchmark to assess so the idea is to get the best of the best it happens in such a way that if the apostles made mistake instead of elected matters they elected the other man they would have still had a very good and excellent apostle so even if you in prayer and whatever you made mistake and the vote went the other way the person you get will still be top-notch leader because what you are now doing is voting between good and better or between better and best are you guys hearing what i'm talking about moses led israel like that and he left two people joshua and caleb even if he's joshua that led them to the promised land they would have arrived there if he was killed then we still arrived there but between caleb and joshua god now choose the best of the best so we stop having the wrong people in authority and so this nation can get to where it should be the church should take responsibility in this area god bless you [Music] [Music] foreign
