[Music] as longtime Pokemon fans we were intrigued by power world our small team loves Pokémon spanning from the TV series to the classic Pokémon red blue and yellow games Power is controversial and also immensely popular we couldn't wait to see what the Mand the buzz is all about welcome back to gism your Premier destination for the best of retro and modern gaming in today's episode we'll be sharing our first impressions and experiences with power we're going in blind with no gameplay prior to this playthrough so how was our experience with what's being de Pokémon with guns today we press start on [Music] power power is currently in Early Access and while the final release date is uncertain it's already quite extensive at the outset of our approximately 15-hour playthrough we immediately noticed that the game shared more similarities with games like grounded or tears of the Kingdom rather than the turn-based Pokémon games it was hard to miss the strong Zelda vibes from the gliding mechanics to the gameplay right down to the sound that startup [Music] upon starting the game players can create their own character before being introduced to a survival Centric environment it's a survival game at heart we thought we'd get a friendlier intro with some starter Pals instead our survivability was promptly challenged your character starts off with minimal clothing leaving them vulnerable in the cold during night time the primary objective is to prevent death by either starting a fire or gathering resources to craft warm clothing as we gathered resources our hunger grew heightening the urgency to find food like the amateur survivalists that we are we came dangerously close to starvation during our first playthrough power Wast no time and loading you with a ton of information effectively educating you on the essentials of surviving in its world like Gathering various materials needed for crafting what is essential for starting a fire and axes are crafted from wood and stone gear weapons and various items were crafted using the wooden workbench we created you set up your home base by selecting a spot for your pow box it can be customized to your liking captured Pals can be assigned to work there Gathering materials and Performing various tasks more details on that later you can build various structures like homes Lucario statues Fair farms and much more in contrast to turn-based Pokémon games Power throws you directly into the action though not as refined as Zelda's gameplay the action feels satisfying you can swing weapons freestyle or use auto aim with the bow and evade incoming attacks with a well-time Dodge you can increase your character's level through combat experience completing tasks cooking food crafting weapons and various other means you'll need to manage your stamina as mining or running will deplete your stamina bar there's both a shield at HP which can result in being koed when depleted getting a handle on these gameplay mechanics is key since battling comes up often beat against the games Team Rocket known as The Syndicate or when capturing Pals which we did after nearly an hour let's now shift our Focus to the Charming non-p pookemon creatures known as Pals initially our playthrough didn't resemble Pokemon at all but once we began catching Pals the similarities Came In Waves we spend most of our playthrough calling them Pokeballs and pokes spheres but they go by pal spheres you can craft or find Pal spheres in the wild and you'll never guess what you can do with them this might sound a bit familiar to capture Pals you Chuck pal spheres at them weakened pals are easier to capture while trapped inside the pals try to escape you catch and collect the different Pals and store them in a box you'll need to upgrade to megas spheres and ultr speres to catch higher level Pals our first experience with a pal sphere ended with they carelessly hurled into the darkness while attempting to start a fire regrettably this scenario repeated itself with our itchy trigger finger often squandering these valuable items which vanish upon [Music] use to catch a pal you've got to beat it up first you can weaken it by using your spear or bow and arrows before capturing it with your Pokeball when you smack a pal their expression shifts from neutral to angry as they fight back it's strange at first but you get used to it upon venturing into the open world we encountered a plethora of wild Pals the game swiftly inundated us with easily attainable ones interspersed with higher level creatures best avoided and imposing legendar esque types similar to Pokémon pals come with their own set of typings and skills even if you catch the same one twice each can have its own unique stats passive abilities and move set this allows you to choose the most suitable pal for your journey planing ahead is key since we're only able to carry up to five Pals at a time summon one of your pals and they'll follow you which is pretty cool if you engage in a battle with a wild pal your pal will join in too it's not exactly like a Pokemon battle since you're also in the mix nonetheless it's interesting to watch them execute moves from their move set and choose Pals that counter specific types effectively they can help you in wearing down the pals you're Target making sure they're at the right Health level for capture to capture more powerful Pals you'll need to level up your character obtain better pal spheres and upgrade your weapons the thrill of encountering a new pal is undeniable but the pressure of not messing up the catch is real knocking the mount means losing the chance to catch it but successfully catching a desired pal brings immense satisfaction such as our first shiny an oversized chiap Pidgey except they aren't shinies they're lucky lucky pals come with unique passive skills and are huge chapi quickly secured a preminent spot in the party you never want your pal to be knocked out or put in danger and there was a moment when chapi ran into trouble after falling off a ledge thank goodness he was okay P are more than just companions in battle they also possess unique abilities that come in handy in various scenarios for instance tomat can use a radar to help locate specific types your after or you can ride them archus style across the game World exploring the world while flying is immensely enjoyable especially when you're pal doubles as a fighter jet pow excels in imbuing its Pals with charm and infusing excitement into new encounters the pals are full of life each type of pal possessing unique personalities and expressions they will stare you down ignore you or run for their lives as you approach you'll come across them wandering freely their presence varying with the location on the map and the time of day while it's hard to say with a straight face the vibe of these Pals differs greatly for Pokémon that's not to say that pingala doesn't resemble Piplup or Lim isn't identical to Leafeon or there aren't similar ities between Fox parks and vpix that tomat doesn't have shades of glit cor and who's mistaken who catties for hoo hoot or merro capturing Pals proves enjoyable and stumbling upon unfamiliar species evokes a sense of mystery and fomo in addition to fighting by your side these little creatures also play a vital role as dedicated workers ensuring the smooth operation at your home base with our sight set on challenging the first gym we spent the next several hours beefing ourselves up as part of the game's tutorial your task with taking on the boss at rain syndicates t power with the game cautioning you to ensure both your equipment and Pals are in top condition we guess that this boss would offer a challenge similar to that of a first gym leader we weren't about to go in up prepared so we spent the next several hours powering ourselves up during the playthrough leveling up occurs through nearly every action you take whether it's attacking Pals Gathering materials earning bonuses from catches cooking crafting and so forth as you level up you can allocate one point to improve your character stats in key areas including attack stamina HP equipment carrying capacity and crafting speed additionally with each level up you unlock lock new technology options you're allowed a set number of Technology points to spend on upgrades which can include new bows enhancements for Pals improvements to your base or decorative items while certain upgrades are essential you're granted some autonomy and selecting what to unlock no surprises here your pals level up growing stronger and acquiring new skills along the way in addition to leveling up you can opt to offer pal souls to your Lucario statue increasing their stats such as Max health or defense Lucario can also boost your character's abilities we improved our capture Power by meeting his requirements to truly power ourselves up we had to make significant upgrades to the base this is because obtaining more formidable weapons for you and your pals thus the Pokémon with guns label Demands a large amount of resources that must be mined and collected aside from being a part of your party you can also assign Pals to your base where they level up by carrying out designated tasks you can enlist these Pals to build structures transport mine resources or tend to specific farming tasks while some Pals rest during the night others are knocked outs and continue working each pal contributes in its own way to your bases operation for instance chickabees lay eggs while the Piplup like pen gullet assists in Watering your very Plantation taking the time to understand each Pal's capabilities is essential as some may possess specialized skills While others are clumsy and lack efficiency enhancing your base allows you to accommodate additional Pals transforming your base into a lively operation while they may be part of your Workforce it's your responsibility to keep them happy and wellfed Pals can grow hungry and when they do they'll greedily consume whatever food they can find you'll need to build little beds for these things and a spot to keep them happy with each upgrade to your base you can house more Pals but this also means more mouss to feed plus a bed must be built for each individual pal with an enhanced and more efficient base in place we had gathered the necessary materials to make some upgrades including the workbench weapons Pok spheres and the crafting of equipment intended for Pals while a well-maintained base can offer a good quality of life it's also prone to attacks emphasizing the importance of strong defenses to protect your home from a potential blood bath you naturally develop a bond with your pals especially those who fight alongside you and contribute tirelessly at the base the overall experience so far was entertaining and engaging leaving you eager to advance your character base weapons and Pals everything fell into place nicely particularly the excitement to catch various Pals and strategize the composition of your team now that we're feeling prepared we decided to conclude our playthrough by taking out what seemed to be the game's first gym the rain syndicate's Tower uncertain of what awaited Us in these battles we armed ourselves with our finest weapons enlisted our strongest Pals and set out to earn our first badge if you're avoiding spoilers for the first gym encounter Now's the Time to look away but for those curious to see how wam BS let's proceed after Mickey significant progress in reaching level 19 time had come to take on the gym venturing into power world we were essentially going in blind with little foresight of what we might encounter are we preparing for five on five showdowns or is this leading into a shootout upon entering the gym we were greeted by an unexpected sight and oversizes the El the buuz with the gym leader Zoe Seated on its back as the first encounter unfolds we endure more damage in a few moments than in all our previous gameplay the spider Pal's efforts and our attempt to fight back the situation grew increasingly Grim as the Towering GIS bolt showed little sign of weakening its enormous HP remaining largely intact in the end the initial confrontation ended in defeat leaving our character in Pals incapacitated stripped of our possessions before gearing up for the rematch we took some time to power up our character is now at level 20 our palar pump with extra Lucario juice and we realize that shiny chapi has a resistance to Electric attacks during the rematch starting with shiny chapi seemed to work as chapi managed to Chip Away about a quarter of grizz's Health before needing to be withdrawn Grizz meanwhile show no signs of holding back at one point relentlessly chasing us in a creepy long Pursuit even with our team's improvements Grizz had us in a tight spot again and the situation was beginning to look Grim once more with our Shields down the strongest pal in our lineup the tomat steps up to shoulder the main combat duties while mainly acting as distraction peppering Grizz with arrows as tomat does the heavy lifting gisb would eventually fall on our second try sparing us the embarrassment of another public loss although defeating Zoe and grisol didn't earn us a badge it did reward us with ancient technology points these points unlock valuable items such as egg incubators and tools for evolving your pals right out of Professor Oak's laboratory after this encounter we learned catching grisol is possible we actually attempted it during this playthrough and nothing happened nonetheless we didn't make another attempt as the game had led us to believe it wasn't possible although very different from the traditional Pokémon battles the initial boss fight was a fun collaboration with our Pals for us the encounter provided a mix of difficulty and satisfaction leaving us eager to discover the Wild Adventures awaiting Us in the gyms ahead after spending about 15 hours playing our first impressions are largely positive the game exudes a sense of novelty vibrancy and is incredibly enjoyable despite still being in its Early Access phase blending Pokemon Elements was shooting combat and RPG mechanics is just our cup of tea we didn't get around to try and Co-op but is touted to elevate the overall experience by allowing you to Journey with up to three other players despite the recent decline in player count power's future looks promising considering how games like sea of Thieves took years to refine and gain momentum there's a feeling that power is still in its early stages and Poise for a similar Evolution power is not without its drawbacks and issues were prevalent back at the base our Pals would frequently glitch out sometimes get stuck and then experience hunger as a result additionally the game throws you into its world with minimal storytelling or rationale for your character's role and memorable characters beyond the pals are notably absent apart from the pals dotting the landscape the giant World felt strangely empty reminiscent of the similar critiques aimed at archus power world channels the spirit of parody films while it occasionally feels like the developers deliberately emulated Pokémon the pals exhibit a charm and individuality that make the game truly its own we're optimistic that the popularity of power May Inspire Pokemon game developers to explore fresh concept incorporating real-time gameplay an open world setting and perhaps even Cooperative features the game left us eager for more we were on the verge of arming our Pals with Firearms there were teasers of evolution or stacking Pals along with un discovered creatures and to top it off we unlock the second base while we're concluding our initial playthrough it's safe to say we're not done with power just yet keep an eye out for future check-ins including potential Co-op Explorations after seeing our first impressions what are your thoughts have you started your own journey in power are you passing on it all together do you believe the game will regain its momentum or is it Fading Away share your thoughts in the comment section enjoyed this video give it a thumbs up subscribe and hit the bell for original retro and
