bridget stacy kathy morning i mean that morning afternoon lunchtime oh my summer yeah i had some time to kind of get a little ready but okay so how many of you guys have seen the chosen okay he's here congrats on all the success for the chosen and you're you really you play it very very well thank you so much i appreciate that yeah i went to um go watch your um youtube with the director and producer and i thought he actually he described you so well after after watching the series but you really have this like tenderness about you that um it's unique it's it's really it's really really well done you did a really good job thank you thank you so much i appreciate you saying that and uh yeah and for doing what you're doing with your ministry here it's amazing oh yeah it's thank you bad i mean it's really i think i feel like i'm the lucky one here but yeah um so today um are you okay if we do sorrowful do whatever you want yeah i'm following you you're leaving i'm following right okay and um i just um i always like to pray for everybody that joins and then everybody uh that also watches later and would just like to pray for um god's blessing on our country our lives and then also um for peace peace within ourselves yeah peace is a good one especially right now yeah uh anything you'd like to pray for um i have a friend that's undergoing some some surgery today nothing too too crazy but you know surgery surgery so yeah um yeah also for um you know all the all the intentions of everybody that might be joining in um through my side and and um somebody kept posted about i think some accident this was a couple days ago in michigan where a priest drowned or something like that so for um the repose of his soul and for his family and all who mourn him and um yeah just everybody that needs to be prayed for everybody that's in pain and um just struggling right now yeah yeah perfect all right we'll get started sure okay in the name of the father the son and the holy us i know it's perfect pray for us the holy mother of god that we may be made worthy of the promises of christ let us pray o god whose only begotten son by his life death and resurrection has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life grant we beseech thee that by meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy rosary of the blessed virgin mary we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promised through the same christ our lord amen and the last prayer is the saint michael st michael the archangel defend us in battle bear protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil may god rebuke him we humbly pray and do thou prince of the heavenly hosts by the power of god cast into hell satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the roman souls amen thank you god sorry i didn't know if that hail holy queen like if there was a risk i'm like wait am i we're supposed to respond for the last lines i haven't heard that but i'm like huh dead space jumper i know i know i think it's also it's like with the technology right if both of us speak it so if things are kind of all over the place but um i'm just so grateful my kids didn't come running in here the whole time i was like praying don't keep them away because they were like knocking on the door but oh good yeah that was so beautiful yeah thank you so much and thanks to everybody else too who prayed with us yeah um so one thing that we always like to ask our guests is their rosary story or like maybe how you first learn the rosary or maybe when it really had an impact on your life anything that you feel comfortable sharing sure um i fee i think that i i really i mean i'd always known the rosary i never really started saying it like with any kind of consistency until a few years ago um [Music] and then it was in 2018 um i got um consecrated to the blessed mother and uh i consecrated myself um here in los angeles and my church and uh i had had resistance with the rosary i think saying it consistently up until then i would say it occasionally yeah but i had to be inspired or in trouble or something you know what i mean yeah and i found i'm like why do i have this resistance and and somebody had talked to me if somebody in my church had mentioned to me oh you should get you should do the consecration i said yeah i love i love mother mary i love you mama mary but i don't know if consecration is for me i just i just i didn't really feel that i had earned that level of devotion or that i was worthy of that level of devotion or that i was good enough and sinless enough you know which is an impossibility um to to to to warrant or to live up to what you know the blessed mother might be expecting of me had i committed myself in such a a serious fashion and so i just kind of you know i just sort of let the the requests come in and out and uh of my consciousness and and i would you know just pray the rosary every so often and for a few months this this one woman god love her she she kept like why don't you pray the rule why don't you get consecrated and she's persian so i can't do it without doing an accident yeah right um and uh and so uh i said i'm gonna pray on it and sort of that kind of left it alone for a little while and then one like two months or three months later all of a sudden i just woke up one day and it was like you should do this i'm like wait what and that's kind of like the conversation between me and the spirit me and god are just like you should do this i'm like really yeah you should do that like uh okay and so i uh i committed to doing it and i said i guess it's this is the time yeah and um i remember being in the mass of the consecration and not feeling resistance coursing through my body like get out get out of here this is wrong this is you not you don't deserve this and i just kind of gritted my teeth and kept just kept on going and it went uh and and got through it uh with grace and and um by god's grace and uh after that point it was like this veil of resistance was just lifted yeah and uh at that point i was like whoa this is because it seemed like oh man this will take like 20 minutes like why don't you you know and then like instagram it's like wait that was 45 minutes on instagram just scrolling through nothing oh i know yeah i've been there yeah so finally when i got consecrated it was like it was it was like a it was a breakthrough for me with the rosary and then um and then uh once we got into quarantine here i i started offering the divine mercy chaplet and then somebody said hey would you know and i think then on on once or twice a week i would do like the rosary and then a friend this friend of mine eric dooley who runs catholify he reached out to me and he said hey would you want to pray the rosary on you know theliverosary.com and i said sure he's like or leader rosary i'm like lead a rosary i'm like well i guess i'm kind of doing that already on my own social pages so sure and um and they have a similar mission to you and trying to get a million rosaries prayed by next month um and you guys have i guess it's a 100 million is that is that your your goal oh yeah my that's like my life time lifetime goal okay just keep going yeah that's you just keep on going that's amazing um and so uh yeah i just i started once i started doing the rosary more consistently online i i just kept getting these uh hits and padre pio started popping up in my consciousness and and i read how he used to do like 50 rosaries a day and i'm like what i'm like i gotta get on my game here so i've like often wondered that like how did he do that like how non-stop i mean it's i figured it out if he's doing 20 a day he's doing 20 minutes per rosary it's like 16 hours straight rosaries every day so i'm like get some of that can i get some of that energy that spiritual fortitude because that's uh that's intense but i guess having to deal with what he did and the stigmata you you had to be prepared right right right he is quite an inspiration though yeah i for me i just um i just think it's such a source of peace and since kind of the pandemic has started i i almost only feel at peace now when i'm praying or even if i you can offer up your work or your actions and try to stay in uh because consistent prayer but um yeah it's just it just seems like there's so much division everywhere with what's going on and we're all a little crabby understandably so and so i'm i'm just so grateful to even know the rosary and be given this gift because i really do think it's such a source of peace yeah yeah and and um a lot of um my followers on social and fans of the show are non-catholics and um have grown to um just have a love for the rosary and just once i think people understand what it's about and who it's about and why we do it it's like oh that's that's not so crazy after all that's not so strange and and a lot of the responses i've gotten from people um and from the chapel as well it's just this deep sense of peace and and um meditative serenity that comes from from praying these prayers yeah so yeah it's been such a gift and a blessing such a gift so um are you uh still praying are you still trying to pray or go live every day just so others know yeah i don't i haven't been going live every day uh for maybe about a month now uh i just my schedule has kind of gotten a little yes and i just like i couldn't because of where i structured it in the day uh and also for a number of reasons i i just needed to i felt god calling me to just sort of step away from doing that publicly for the time being um but it doesn't mean i haven't popped on just kind of sporadically or like today when i feel just sort of called to to do it um but uh yeah and i'm i just always encourage people to you know whether or not we're praying as a little community it's sort of that's kind of uh it generated this sort of these offshoot groups to have people start praying on their own in a community which is awesome and it's like as long as you keep the prayer going that's it doesn't matter if it's live or if it's at home or recorded or like in the privacy of your room with your door closed so um i think uh i i felt there was an element that was meant to just introduce it in a way that maybe hadn't been done by people in my uh industry really um so visibly and then kind of just like put it out there and just bring an awareness to it um and uh and and then like if i can figure out something uh with um if i get inspired to do a specifically consistent kind of thing again i i probably will but for for right now the the the message i got was to just work on some other stuff that's happening and focus on that right now well thank you so much for even just taking that step to do that um so do you wanna now i'm sure everybody here most uh everybody knows um chosen um can you tell us what what the experience was like uh playing jesus or um maybe even some inspirations that came to you while you were playing jesus like even how did it come about maybe we should start there yeah um and for anybody that might not know what the chosen is it's uh it's the first multi-season tv series about the life of christ um and you get to sort of encounter christ through the folks that knew him best which were his disciples his apostles and we meet um a number of the apostles in season one there's seven seasons planned each season is uh seven episodes um it's based on scripture it it's not trying to change scripture or or uh or replace scripture or the bible but it's inspired and derived from the bible um and uh it's it's a project that's meant to introduce people to a christ that they may not have ever seen on film before somebody who is not solely the divinity but also the human you know the human side of christ and and by you know by encountering him in this way through these other characters these apostles um that if if we can um if they can be uh you know changed by an encounter with him and we can identify with them then maybe we too can be changed by an encounter with with christ and and so it started for for me um the creator of the show dallas jenkins uh is a filmmaker who uh out of uh chicago who um six years ago um was working for the his church as like their media director and so they would do uh every christmas and easter they would do uh as part of their service a media project and a film he would make a film and so one of the easter projects in easter 2014 or for good friday he did a film about the the two thieves crucified alongside christ called the two thieves which you can actually find on amazon as a short film it's a 25 minute short film and i got cast to play christ and that and that sort of set up our working relationship where over the next uh three years i did two more projects with him playing jesus for these films for his church and then um the i think it was 2017 that easter i did the the last short film for him i did and then that christmas 2017 he did a um a short film for the christmas service called the shepherd which uh was a 30-minute film about the nativity scene from the eyes of the shepherds in the field uh which is beautiful yeah and that's both of them yeah yeah it's there and and it's it's in very much in the style of what the chosen is where you have gospel stories and then you've got extra biblical uh material that sort of are plausibly supporting you know uh historically archaeologically socially culturally at the time are supporting the gospel stories and what these people's lives may have been like at the time that these um life-changing history-making events happened in in you know scripture um and so that was seen by this company called vid angel these uh distributors um and they they realized the power of this kind of filmmaking and how dallas had done it and uh and thought that they could do an entire series and so they convinced him begrudgingly to use the the shepherd as uh the basis for which to raise money do a fundraiser a crowdfunded um a fundraiser to uh to raise money for a series and and you know this story goes that dallas and you said to them you'd be you'd be lucky if you raised eight hundred dollars to do a series about jesus using this film yeah and long story short they raised 11 million dollars from 19 000 investors and that funded season one and uh and here we are getting ready to go into season two amen thank you god that's so amazing i think um people also don't realize it wasn't um the passion of the christ uh i think it was like the number one gross highest prize in independent films yes yes yeah that cost i think 30 35 million that mel paid for himself because he couldn't get financing and and uh went on to gross i think 650 million dollars something like that almost a billion dollars so yeah wow wow i think it's it's yeah it's i mean it's that is the um that is the need for quality filmmaking uh telling these stories about christ and telling christian stories you know like christian filmmaking does not have to be bad you know in fact it can be really really good right right you've done very well with amazing actors and yes yeah great story and authenticity and people that are committed to um telling these stories uh in a way that is fresh and and sometimes challenging for people but uh but christ was challenging he was counter-cultural he he made people uncomfortable so um you know it's uh it's it's all part of the process and so when people hear like uh you know if if they watch the show and the way to watch the show i should probably mention for those who want to see who maybe haven't seen it is by downloading the app of the same name it's literally go to the app store or or google play sure you download the chosen and if you have a smart tv or a smart device like roku or fire stick or something like that you literally just open the app turn on your tv turn on your device and press a button in the app that says watch on tv and it just streams to your tv you don't need any service you don't need a subscription you don't need to pay for anything it's free that's the other thing is it's free so it's uh wow yeah it's been it's been pretty exciting um so i have to ask like sure what kind what like went into the preparation of playing jesus like just what was i guess you're continuing to to play jesus but what was that like um you know it's it's uh it's hard to say it's life changing is an understatement um but prep prep wise um it starts with a lot of uh reading and researching and and uh re-reading scripture um and for me as a catholic uh going to mass as often as i can even when i'm on set um like we're gonna be in utah this season we were in texas last season so for last season i would try to find the church and uh before we start filming i would usually come into town a couple of days before filming and then i would when i get set up i would try to find the church and go to mass go to confession receive the eucharist that becomes you know a real you know source of strength and power for me to be able to try to channel the spirit through my work and to just empty myself out as much as i can of of me and and literally be a conduit you know as best as i humanly can um which you know it's uh as a flawed human it's not something that like to me is is easy to do it's not easy to to to do that but you know i try the best i can and i i pray to for god to um to use me and and however he sees fit to to reach other people and that uh um also that you know when people hear when people see me or hear me speaking that it's not me the actor they see that it's christ and his words that they hear and see and there therefore can have that experience um but i do sometimes have to remind people that i am i am just an actor so yeah it's i'm i'm a human i'm an actor i've done other tv shows i'm extremely flawed and very imperfect um but uh you know to be able to to do this is uh the preeminent uh honor of my career and my life you you really you you play him so well though so beautifully like just such an excellent job now uh when did so you guys will be shooting for season two yeah it's coming up yeah october i think sometime in october fall yeah we can't wait i i just remember during the quarantine i was asking people for like good content like how do you find good content and ever i'm not kidding you i i must have got like 30 40 different responses it was all go watch the chosen go watch your chosen yeah i mean i think i think we are all i think the demand for good content is so high and um not only is the supply low i think finding it is hard right it's a it's a challenge so yeah and also this i mean this because this isn't on a traditional kind of platform it it has made it it it's interesting in two ways that it's it people that are really looking forward will will ultimately find it because like they'll i think they'll just they'll be led to do that and um it's the most interesting thing is seeing that like despite the fact that it's a show that is on an app yeah you know it's been it's been seen in every country on the planet so that that that is a real indication that there's a hunger for for the christ's message now more than ever and the need for um people to to really uh band together as as one race one human community and do our best to um really just thwart the forces that are trying to destroy culture as we know it um and and the presence of god in our culture as as we know it and to you know to just uh uh facilitate some sort of moral decay uh and so you know this for for me in my opinion seeing the success of the popularity of the show um is is just a sign that like god's gonna use any one and any way he can to to to to win the day so to speak and to give people the opportunity to align themselves um with him yeah instead of against him yeah i'm grateful that we have this show as a platform to be able to do that yeah i i feel like i i i'm blessed in that i i get to see it every day because we pray together every morning and just even watching like the comments or the intentions coming through here god is very live right in his his love it it is spreading and i think that if any one of you feel the you know the call to to do something for god whether it's content or whatever it is just do it because i think the like the slogan says just do it yeah yeah that's awesome that's true yeah yeah it's i love it it's such a gift and um look at i mean i got to pray with you it's so great yeah it's amazing it's amazing and and i was looking forward to not having been uh not having prayed the rosary online in a while so thank you again it's been really truly uh and especially today i i i realized just before i i joined you and as i was praying i was like wow there was an unsettling that was happening and uh and just getting to pray through that really put me in a much um deeper state of serenity so thank you for that god bless you for that thank you too thank you we will continue to pray for you and um i hope everything goes smoothly on
