good morning everybody we are going to be doing our second cut of alfalfa today and that means we got to take the plastic off the rest of the pile here so we started this a month and a half ago covered it up and now we're just going to add today's silage to this bunker there's no way we're gonna fill it all the way unfortunately but uh we're gonna have to butt it right up to this old silage so take the tires off roll it up on top and then we can start putting some more silage in this pit [Music] so [Music] now we got the pit uncovered let's go grab some silage so we filled the first truck already what's the second one rolling in uh almost the first whole round of this field which is a really big round went into one truck so it is pretty light but we gotta take it right on this is the sixth load for the morning it's going uh the field's going quick the trucks are filling pretty slow i would definitely be able to go a lot faster the chopper is nowhere near its capacity but there's so many mole hills out in this field that's what happens when the foul fields out here in saskatchewan if you leave them in for three four years you get a bunch of mole hills you can see all the patches of sand and they make your field incredibly rough so you should only ever leave your alfalfa in the field like four years tops out here but obviously if you can't get a good catch of new stuff keep the old stuff in a bit longer this stuff has probably been in for three years now and it's already getting pretty bad so i just don't want to snap that spout off of the chopper it's already flopping around enough as it is so just got to take it easy it's kind of a tedious job when you can't max that chopper out but all right we're done the first field and that went really quick still 11 o'clock in the morning so we can get a good start on the next field for lunch and 12 and a half loads so that's not a lot at all kind of too bad but uh next feels a lot better and we had zero rain pretty much on this crop we did have a little shower it was barely enough to keep the dust down didn't help out the crops at all but for the rest this second of cut of alfalfa here had zero rain so of course now that we're chomping it starts to rain oh you gotta love the weather sometimes hey [Applause] easy [Music] we are in the next field and this field is probably five times as heavy as the first one we did and this field is just like the last one they're pretty close together didn't get any rain just enough to keep the dust down once so it's impressive that this patch of land has so many tons on it and that's because it's alfalfa alfalfa is a pretty cool plant it's got what's called a tap ridge i believe and that root it's hard to believe but it can actually go as far as 10 feet deep in the ground and it can start to get into the water table below the ground and bring moisture up like that and because of that reason and only that reason there's a lot of volume here and a lot of tonnage on the sofa problem now we are really lucky to get this this year grab a roll of plastic for the pile [Music] powell is just too long for the plastic so we're just shorting it up a bit that is the last pile for 2021 guys too bad the bunker isn't right full but it's gonna do i'm gonna take the duals off the loader [Music] behind me here you can see a pretty cool pour for this build it's the center drive-through they did that today and we had to give them a loader that's why we took the duals off first thing this morning and got them a wheel loader because they had some self-mixing concrete trucks out here the reason why they have the self mixers the concrete plant is only like 15 minutes away from our farm uh the reason why they had these stealth mixes out here is because all they could get today were those kinds of trucks uh everything else was booked full i guess there's a lot of construction going on around here which is a good thing as well but uh yeah so they work pretty good it's pretty cool i've never seen those things before but they basically scoop gravel into one side i think they scoop some other type of sand in the other side there's so water tank on those trucks and it mixes it all together and then they hoard this today so i got some drone shots of it we'll put those up right now we can have a look at that it was pretty cool [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so it's coming along really nicely they're making pretty quick progress to this build so that's awesome another thing we're going to do we're going to pour a pretty decently sized concrete pad out of the back of this barn you can see there is concrete pad just behind the fans there but we're going to extend that i believe another 15 feet just so that we can stay on the concrete with the feed wagon back here because when it rains it's a mess back here and we don't want to deal with that anymore so we're just going to pour a nice concrete pad back here and that'll make working out here a little bit nicer again so that is going to be it for today's video guys if you enjoyed be sure to hit those like and subscribe buttons down below and i hope to see you guys in the next video thanks for watching
