[Music] this is the kn gts coupe and it is the goldilocks of the kn range it sits below the kn turbo but above the standard kn and kns and it comes with a whole host of extra features that make this the most driver focused version of porsche's biggest suv the most important edition being what lives under here while most kns use a v6 this 88 thousand pound gts model has been upgraded with a four liter twin turbocharged v8 in this case making 460 metric horses and 620 newton meters of torque 20 more than the v6 managed for both those figures it's definitely something to shout about until you actually take a look at the engine let's have a look at the beast in question all right it's covered by this plastic thing but i'm pretty sure that underneath it's going to look glorious oh look at this yeah that's that's shameful isn't it really honestly you buy a v8 and you get that let's hope it drives better than it looks all right some trivia for you porsches don't have launch control this thing instead has something called performance start and it comes as standard in this gts coupe and it would be a shame if i didn't show you how it worked right so this little knob on the steering wheel you turn that to sport plus foot firmly on the brake hammer the throttle release and off we go and that is 62 properly quick car this he'll do naught to 62 in 4.2 seconds that's two full seconds quicker than the entry level cayenne and only a tenth slower than the turbo all right it's not crazily quick like some of these 600 horsepower mega suvs but it is a rapid thing this and if you keep your foot in it'll carry on all the way up to 168 miles an hour so it's v8 fast but what's impressive about the new kn gts coupe is that it's also v8 listen to that it burbles it pops it bangs sounds glorious it's way better sounding than that v6 thing you got in the previous generation car there's just something really reassuring about hearing a v8 that exhaust by the way has been custom designed specifically for the gts coupe and it exits centrally above that rear diffuser instead of at both sides as you get on the standard model they've also engineered the sound specifically to be slightly higher pitched and more aggressive than the standard car and it definitely 100 sounds good [Music] it's not just a show pony it's also got trousers to match the mouth when you start to push on you'll be pleasantly surprised by just how good the kn gts is and not only in a straight line the philosophy behind the cayenne gts and indeed all porsche gts's is that this is supposed to be the sportiest one in the range the one that's designed for people who enjoy driving and it really is you jump in it and the first thing you notice is that it feels alive nimble agile it actually feels quite light by suv standards i mean all right it's not it weighs 2 200 kilograms but it's still 100 kilograms lighter than something like a range rover sport sbr or an audi rsq8 for the gts they've dropped the ride height by 20 millimeters if you get the normal steel suspension and by 30 millimeters if you opt for the air suspension fitted to this particular car giving it a relatively low center of gravity by suv standards it looks as though it should handle like a house but it's far more capable than you'd think porsche have thrown the full suite of handling technology at this car it's got pretty much everything you can imagine porsche active suspension management pasm which basically allows the car to firm up or loosen off the suspension depending on the driving conditions you've got porsche torque vectoring plus with a rear differential that essentially breaks the inside rear wheel to help the car rotate in the corners you've got rear wheel steering which turns the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels again to help that turn in and you've also got 48 volt active anti-roll stabilization essentially a motor on the roll bars which rotate and help the car stay perfectly flat through the corners together all of those things really do add up they make a massive difference and they make this car feel a lot more agile than it has any real right to it might be a big suv but it drives like a porsche so it sounds good and it goes well but suv customers especially porsche suv customers are often motivated by appearances so does this especially in this new coupe body style actually look like something people would want on their driveways i actually quite like it i'm not the world's biggest fan of the kn but out of all of these suv coupes like the bmw x6 or merc gle coupe this is by far the best to me it's definitely the best of a bad bunch in terms of what makes it a gts well there's a whole host of tweaks first of all the front and rear led lights have been tinted to give it a more aggressive look you've got these 21 inch rs spider design wheels finished in satin black and speaking of black you get a whole host of black accents black on the front air intake black around the window trims as well as black badges including this cayenne gts badge finished in black plus the coolest bit these exhaust tips again finished in black plus these are centrally mounted these have been specially designed for the coupe which looks utterly amazing although word of warning if you're the kind of person that likes to load shopping into your car while wearing shorts then you might want to be prepared for a few singed leg hairs as for the boot this coupe version offers 625 liters of space around 140 less than the standard suv so there's a definite compromise there and the cabin especially at the rear also has a few compromises worth knowing about in terms of rear space it's actually really good i was a bit worried about the coupe being quite restrictive on headroom but it's not i've got loads of leg room and i'm 511 and look at that decent amounts of headspace you've also got your own climate controls down here a couple of usb ports 12 volt power output but porsche for god's sake why is this car only got two seats in the back why what's wrong with the middle c and what is this here what is this space here designed to accommodate a loaf of bread come on i made a call to porsche and they tell me that the bizarre two-seat arrangement is part of the lightweight sports package although what that specific cubby is for is still up for debate the package which costs an extra six thousand pounds includes air suspension 22 inch wheels a carbon fiber roof and cloth seats yeah you have to pay extra for seats made of cloth up front they've done a much much better job it's a really nice cabin in here first off they've written gts everywhere you've got gts on the rev counter gts on the door sills then you get loads of alcantara because yes it is a sporty car you've got alcantara steering wheel alcantara roof lining and alcantara on these cute little grips down here on a center console one for your passenger in case they get scared of your driving and one for yourself when you run out of talent in terms of storage for your bits and bobs you've got a couple of cup holders decent amount of room in the center console with a little wireless charging mat plus a little place for your mobile phone just there or your spare change the center console itself is really nicely arranged it looks great with these touch sensitive buttons plus i've got to say this thing has the best volume knob in the game look at this look at the action on that oh absolutely delicious then the screen looks sensational i think it's 14 to 15 inches in size everything's nicely laid out it's clear and gives you all the data you could ever wish for plus back here you get another screen behind the steering wheel which gives you access to all your driving data as well as your maps very very cool execution as well as being a good performance car the cayenne gts also has to be a really good family car and it is apart from this one not having a middle seat at the back still got no idea what that is by the way but when you're driving slowly around town it's actually a really nice car to drive it's actually comfortable it's quiet it's easy to operate you've got a really good reverse parking system which shows you almost every single angle around the car the controls are nice and light it's just an easy thing to get on with if i was going to nitpick and i am nitpicking now because it is a really good car it's hard to find faults with it i would say that the suspension is a little bit on the firm side the ride is quite busy especially when you're in sport plus but you can slacken it off into normal mode and it does soften up ever so slightly and it rides the bumps and the undulations in the road reasonably well that said this is still a sporty suv and the ride definitely does feel slightly more harsh than you'd get on a standard car the seats i'm going to moan about them as well they're actually really good they're quite supportive they hold you in place nicely when you're chucking this thing around corners and they even have lumbar support and good adjustability but they're on the firm side and i can imagine that on a long trip that eventually you might end up feeling a little bit of pain i can probably forgive all of that quite easily to be honest but the major problem you're going to experience with this car is with your fuel bills despite the addition of cylinder deactivation and direct injection the official fuel economy figure is an understandably low 22.2 miles per gallon in reality in my hands i managed between 15 and 20. so those short annoying town and city journeys where you're gonna end up burning a lot of fuel sat in traffic that's not where you're gonna see this car shine where you're gonna see it shine is out on the open road where you can really let that big v8 sing it's really a joy to see this kind of engine returned in this kind of car and it's ironic really because porsche like everyone else had begun downsizing and moving towards smaller engines and hybridization and electrification and yet here we are with an suv with a big old twin-turbo v8 in the front and the irony is that it's those smaller engines those hybrids those full battery electric cars that have allowed porsche to reduce their average fleet emissions and then occasionally just occasionally indulge itself in having a big old gts v8 like this one and the engine really is sweet the only thing that lets it down ever so slightly is that porsche are using an eight-speed automatic gearbox a torque converter instead of a dual clutch pdk and it's just a little bit lethargic when it comes to changing up and slightly more lethargic when it comes to changing down it doesn't give you the exact gear you want when you want it i can understand why they've gone for a torque converter it allows the car to be able to tow big loads but this is a driver's car it deserves a driver's gearbox and i don't actually have anything against automatics the automatic box in the range rover sport svr is sharp crisp aggressive this just feels a little bit tame to me and then there's the big one the brakes in suvs like this brakes tend to fade really quickly once you do a couple of big stops they begin to overheat lose performance and if you're really unlucky sometimes you might even see a bit of smoke pouring out of the things but not in this it's got a massive set of 390 millimeter cast iron discs at the front with six piston calipers that do a truly brilliant job of slowing you down time after time at the start of this film i said the cayenne gts was the goldilocks car in the range sure the cayenne turbo is quicker but it costs 100 000 pounds and the entry-level car while it's 60 000 pounds is nowhere near as fun as this this thing really is the sweet spot [Music] [Music] you
