flipbooks are basically just gifts or spreadsheets that run on your model and to do that the first thing you got to do is enable flipbooks and then you'll see this texturing slot this doesn't just take a texture it takes an array of textures which is basically a list of textures so all you have to do is you can use a gif or you can use a bunch of images in this case I'm going to use a gif I'll right-click it go to point O me texture array from gif it's as easy as that and that'll generate a texture array of this gif and you can go over here and you see depth the depth is 31 meaning there's 31 frames in this texture array or gif so let's go back drag the ovals into there we want to set the total frame to our total frames to 31 and now there's still nothing there what's going on so you actually have to set your blending mode there's three different blending modes there's replace multiply and add so replace does what you think it just replaces add will add where that's multiply multiply multiply is the base color so if your base color was red it'll multiply the texture by red or if you have a if you have a texture on your model you'll see that it just gets multiplied over that an additive is well it adds so it only gets brighter so we're gonna use replace and the total frames is how many frames it is color and alpha is just what color you want it you can adjust the alpha so it fades in and out and the FPS is basically how fast it runs so it's running at 30 frames per second if you wanted to increase that you can put 60 or you can lower it and put it like 8 we're gonna keep it at before the scale and offset so x and y is the scale and Z or Z and W is the offset so if we wanted to scale it down we could set it to 0.1 0.1 so it just shows up in the middle and then you could set the offset so you can move it around now once this moves around your UVs and that can be really confusing for a lot of people because you'll move it on your leg and then it'll show up on your arm and they'll show up on your chest and it's really hard to find out exactly where it should be so one trick you can use is just select your material then down here at the bottom you'll see a window that shows the texture on a sphere or whatever shape you want you can click this button here until you see it on a quad and that'll be your texture so if you had a more complex texture like this and you you didn't know how to like get it from here to somewhere like on the circle it's kind of hard to know exactly where it is you just look down here and you can move it around and get it exactly where you want it with no tricks well I guess that's a trick but it's not gonna be hard so I'm gonna switch this back and the tiled button will tile it so let's across your whole mesh it's pretty useful for some stuff like this the I'm gonna actually I'm gonna change up the texture array to something else just because it's kind of it doesn't show what it can really do so one second and the emission strength is just how emissive it is just multiplied multiplies the color by whatever you set this to and then tiled tiles it obviously the rotation will rotate it around and the manual control a lot of people mess this up so be careful if your gif is not running at all and all your settings look right the manual can probably what's wrong so if it's anything below zero it will run automatically so if I set this to negative ten it'll run normally but if I set this to zero it just freezes and if I set it to one it's still frozen to now what's happening here is you actually have manual control over the frames so if I scroll through the current frames you'll see that it's girls through them so this is really good if say you had a bunch of textures that you wanted to use for your face and you wanted your face to change with gestures you could actually just put all of those pictures into one texture array and then select the current frame down here and you can easily do that if you go into like grab go to your texture area there's noise and for this your textures actually need to be the same resolution so this won't actually work but if you wanted to you could go to you can select all the images kind of Pueo me text Rhea Rhea and then from images and as long as those images have the same settings and they're the same resolution they can all be compressed together into a single texture array we're working right now on changing that so it can be any resolution but for now it has to be the same and I think that covers all of texture arrays so if you have any questions about this or anything else I'm gonna leave a link to the discord in the description below feel free to join thanks for watching
