[Applause] but i've been looking forward to tonight tonight we have a special treat and it's great to have bishop goethe with us in the house of the lord tonight praise god praise god how many are thankful for bishop how many are thankful for the great work [Applause] [Music] the wonderful vision and bishop this is here because of you and your wife and your family and the vision of the kingdom of god and fpc loves you and owes you a debt we will never be able to repay and we thank you and love and appreciate you amen and he's he's had his hands full and he's been preaching and and holding things together and making things happen and he's doing a great job and but tonight we were able to get him over here to the to fpc and amen bishop we want you to come and take your liberty preach to pastor and his family love you i love the ursan family appreciate you very much and i appreciate the invitation to be here tonight and preach i told him i'll i'll testify uh not promising i'll preach but i'll testify god has been good to me and i'm very happy to be here amen amen amen [Applause] the last 11 weeks or so i have uh not here to give a health report but i have had some physical problems and i'm not in pain but i'm dizzy and so if i hold on up here to this pulpit but just forgive me but i haven't driven out of town in the last 11 weeks i haven't driven anywhere flown anywhere i had to cancel everything i had and different ones brother ben but daryl crane has driven me up to darlene up to roxboro so i've been trying to fill in up there for the last 11 weeks going there every sunday morning and sunday night and tuesday night and so i'm trying to be a blessing there and at church there this morning brother ben drove us up and i appreciated that we had a good service there this morning amen brother ben could probably confirm what i'm going to say that i'm not saying on back i'm just saying since i've been up there 11 weeks this morning we had the house full am i right praise god amen had people praying seeking god in the altar and good things happening and classrooms were full the auditorium was full and so i don't know how long i'll be there but i'm not going to pastor anymore my pastoring days are over 58 years is long enough to pastor 47 here in 11 missouri and that's enough but they had a need and wanted me to come and i'm glad to be filling in but that's all i'm not going to pasture [Music] praise god i'm glad to be here i'm glad to have marley with me where's marley oh there she is she's my youngest granddaughter amen marley is the youngest of brother robbie and sister lisa she's been my buddy came in friday she's going to stay with me a week so and then go to peak from here so marley's been driving me around and i've been praying and i'm glad you're here marley i love you she just turned 16 and got her driver's license [Applause] thank the lord so i'm indeed happy to be here god bless you would you open your bibles to revelation 3 and 20. revelation 3 and 20. i've been hearing folks are getting baptized folks get the holy ghost in this property and at gear street amen pastor glendale i appreciate you and your wife and family they had a service there thursday night and i had the privilege to be there thursday night then we went down in the gym and his wife had her i'm not going to say what number but she had a birthday amen i'm not going to tell women say john i learned that a long time ago don't do that anyhow had a great time pastor and sister linda and their family are wonderful people and we love and appreciate them very much everybody said amen amen amen amen so let's read from revelation 3 and verse number 20. behold i stand at the door and knock if any man hear my voice and open the door i will come in to him and will sup with him and he with me then let's read one more scripture before you're seated the songs of solomon chapter 5 and verse 2 chapter 5 and verse 2. while you're turning robinson's are some of my favorite singers and people and if her husband was here to play the sax it'd be perfect my best i've ever heard in my life on saxophone and these are great folks i've owned them for a long time and they're wonderful people so it's great to be with all of you all the home folk as well as the guests songs of solomon chapter 5 and verse 2. i sleep but my heart waketh is the voice of my beloved that knocketh saying open to me my sister my love my dove my defile for my head is filled with dew in my locks with the drops of his of the night i have put off my coat how shall i put it on i have washed my feet how shall i defile them so tonight i want to preach for a few minutes and then we'll go eat something is that all right got something good to eat praise god i'm ready so i'll i'll try to be mindful of the time thank you for standing you may be seated and god bless you amen amen amen revelation chapter 3 and verse 20 jesus said i stand at the door and knock and if any man will hear my voice i will come in to him and will sup with him and he with me probably as an evangelist many years ago i preached that subject i stand at the door and knock and if any man hear my voice i preach that basically to the unsaved that if you will open your heart and i still believe that if you're unsaved and you'll open your heart god will come in god wants to come in in fact i am convinced more than ever before that god wants to bless his people and he's ready to save the lost amen but as i read it tonight i am preaching to anybody here that needs god that's unsaved but i'm also preaching to the church tonight in a sense i'm not the pastor i will not try the pastor but he said i stand at the door and knock and if any man hear my voice i will come into him and i'll shut with him i'll commune with him i'll fellowship with him and he with me it won't just be a one-way street it'll be i'll shut up with you and you shop with me i'll commune with you and you commune with me [Applause] amen in revelation chapter 1 and verse 13 i notice where jesus it starts out here is in the midst everybody say in the midst of the seven churches in the midst and to many of them he had something or somewhat against them this was not in a mean way this was not in a cruel way this was in a reaching and loving way when god says i've got someone against you and he tells you how to make things right then that's to our advantage amen and to the church at ephesus he said you have left your first love he didn't say you've lost it he said you've left it there's a difference in losing something and leaving something he said you left it you walked away from it you had it you experienced it it was the embodiment of my first of my love but you have left your first love then to smyrna the second church he said you got some people in your church that say they are jews and they are not but they are fake they're not real in fact he makes it so strong he said they are of the synagogue of satan that's pretty strong then to the third church the church at pergamus he said this is what i'm saying to you as a church you have allowed the doctrine of balaam to come into your church and you've allowed things that have been eaten that have been sacrificed to idols and also he said you have committed fornication and god gave them a space to repent and make it right then to thyrotire that fourth church he said thou sufferest or thou allowest that woman jezebel to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication and to eat things sacrifice to idols so in each case jesus was reaching out to the churches his desire was to help them his desire was to see repentance his desire was to see them acknowledge again their need of god and their returning unto the lord then the fifth church the church its hardest this is a real indictment to me pastor when he said thou hast a name that thou livest but you're dead man i don't want to just have a name that i'm alive i don't want to just say i used to have the holy ghost i'd like to be able to truthfully say i've still got it tonight hallelujah maybe you see it so he says you've got a name that you live but in actuality you're dead and he said i want you to be watchful and to strengthen the things that remain there's still some good in your church i want you to give some time and attention and strengthen those things that remain but i want you to work on this deadness if we got anybody here tonight that's dead and you're not as alive as you once were in christ i'm here with a message to say that god is reaching out to you tonight [Applause] hallelujah did anybody feel his presence and power in this house let's worship him right now [Applause] and i made myself a few notes here and i guess i'm still a little bit old-fashioned but i just kind of write the notes as it comes to me and if you get them another way that's fine one man told me one time he said there's no fire in those notes i said you're exactly right but i can use them notes to start a fire with amen so i i hope there'll be a little fire in this place tonight [Applause] hallelujah somebody shout hallelujah maybe seated then church number six he didn't seem to have anything against that church that was the church at philadelphia that was the church of brotherly love and god said thou hast a little strength you haven't given up you haven't quit you've got a little bit of strength left and he said i want you to keep my word as you've kept my word and he said you have not denied my name [Music] i'm glad to be a part of the church tonight that has not denied the name of jesus [Applause] that's still a name that's above every name that in the name of jesus every knee is going to bow of things in heaven of things in earth and of things under the earth and every tongue should confess that jesus christ is lord to the glory of god the father let's praise him hallelujah let me see that i like that philadelphia church you've still got some strength i'm preaching to somebody tonight that is still in the fight [Applause] general douglas macarthur said one time when it comes to fighting in war there is no substitute for victory [Applause] we accept nothing less than victory anybody got some victory in the house tonight [Applause] hallelujah praise god praise god praise god benny then he comes to the seventh and last church of asia and that was the laodicean church to this church god's indictment was clear and pointed god says you're lukewarm you're not cold and you're not hot you're in that dangerous in between place god said you know what i wish that you were cold or hot god said i'd rather you be cold or hot than to be lukewarm hallelujah pastor said we may not dance like we used to but i still want to have the fire to do it i want to have the desire to do it glory i may not can run with some of you young men but i'd like to all right i said i'd like to glory somebody clap your hands and praise the lord hallelujah hallelujah you may be seated now here's what god said i would that you were cold or hot because if you acknowledge that you're cold your very recognition of your coldness may drive you to a fire but if you're lukewarm you don't feel any need people that are lukewarm don't feel the need to come to church people that lukewarm don't feel the need to pray people that lukewarm don't feel the need to worship i don't want to be lukewarm there's enough fire in this house for everybody tonight oh let's praising hallelujah [Applause] maybe he's seated now here was what god said he said because you're lukewarm here's your attitude here's an expression of your feeling he said you you think and you say i have need of nothing that's a dangerous place to be i don't ever want to reach that place and i think whether you're 15 or 90 you should never reach the place to say everything's fine i don't need anything from god let the rest of them go ahead and shout let the rest of them praise the lord let the rest of them clap their hands let the rest of them lift their hands i don't need it i'm all right that's dangerous they said i have need of nothing and here's where my text comes in in verse nine verse 20. behold i stand at the door and knock if you'll notice i read in chapter 1 and verse 13 jesus was in the midst of the churches by chapter 3 and verse 20 they got him outside the church and he stamped the door and knocking and begging the church let me in hallelujah hallelujah somebody say praise the lord i've uh and what i really i i given my text now don't feel like that i've still got an hour and a half to go no but i'm gonna give you my text now when i started studying the pastor asked me to preach and i started studying it was god just kind of he didn't thunderbolt from heaven he didn't talk to me out loud you folks that have dreams and vision and god talks to you personally god bless you god don't use the deal with me that way hallelujah and i think some people have dreams and visions because they eat too much before they went to bed hallelujah i thank god for people that's got a vision while they're wide awake [Applause] yeah yeah yeah [Applause] hallelujah hallelujah but i i got to thinking um many times my wife and i and children through the years as many of you have done have stayed in motel rooms now then they probably get a little more sophisticated way to say it but back back in those days they would have a sign that you would put on the door had a little hole in it you'd hang in the door and the sign would say please do not disturb that's my text tonight in case you you need any text amen please do not disturb i don't believe the apostolic church can ever reach that time [Applause] i want god to disturb me i want him to shake me did anybody god want god to stir you you may be seated i don't want god disturb me so i can clap my hands i want god disturb me so i can live right [Applause] i want god to disturb me so i can walk right and talk right [Applause] hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah so this is what our generation is saying holding their sign up putting it on the door and saying please do not disturb but the one standing on the outside deserves to be listened to he said i'm standing at the door and knocking i was in the midst of your church but now you got me on the outside but please let me back in lift your hands with me let's praise oh god oh god and in the verses you may be seated in the verses that i read tonight from the songs of solomon in chapter five he said i sleep with my heart's wake and it's the voice of my beloved that knocketh and then he said my response to the lock at the door was i've already pulled my coat off how can i put it back home i don't want to be disturbed i just want you to leave me alone preacher don't ever say to your pastor of these men leave me alone i want somebody to preach to me i want to be disturbed hallelujah hallelujah may be seated for a moment so his response was i've already pulled my coat off i'm in for the night my coach already hung up how shall i put it on i've washed my feet how shall i defile them so that's the spirit of our generation it must not be the spirit of apostolic churches and it's not now but it must never become the spirit of first pentecostal church in durham [Applause] god stir me up shake me up disturb me wake me up do anything you gotta do i've got to be [Applause] saved hallelujah you may be seated let me move quickly amos 6-1 those that are at ease in zion are not complemented of god he said woe to them that are at ease in zion jesus said because iniquity our sinfulness our lawlessness will abound the love of many will wax coal but he that endureth to the end i cannot accept that once i'm saved i'm forever saved got it made and forget it i don't believe that he that endureth to the end to the end somebody say the end the same shall be shall be shall deceive jesus even said in luke 9 that any man that puts his hand to the plow and looks back is not fit for the kingdom he already had his hand in the plow but if he looks back he's not fit galatians 4 9 paul said after that you have known god i rather you're known of god how how is it that you can turn again to the weak and beggarly elements of this world i don't want what this world's got and i realize i'm getting older i'm an old man now and uh wednesday i'll be 81 years old but some of you are 15 and 20 and 25 and you need to get a little fire about praise god hallelujah let me see what is in sin that you won't what is it about sin that appeals to you why if if you got sin in your life and you're not willing to repent why would you even think about going to heaven because there won't be any sin in heaven and you'd feel uncomfortable [Music] there won't be any beer in heaven won't be any whiskey in heaven they can say the ball players now can take marijuana but there won't be no marijuana in heaven [Applause] [Music] if you maybe see if you can't live for god now you wouldn't fit up there you wouldn't fit in amen you wouldn't feel at home you wouldn't feel comfortable hebrews 10 38 says if any man draws back my soul has no pleasure in him god said i don't get any pleasure out of backsliding our lukewarmness our apathy our indifference our unconcerned hallelujah i heard about an old preacher one time pastor glendon he said he was a preacher and he said the two greatest sins we face tonight is ignorance and apathy and uh he pointed out to a gentleman in the audience he said isn't that true man's response was i don't know and i don't care praise god that's just about the way our generation is but i'm going to tell you apathy can get a hold of any of us you can serve god 40 years and then lose your desire and lose your walk with god let's keep the fire burning maybe it's tedious i don't care how old you are how young you are let's face the truth you don't want to right now but you're going to die i'm going to die and i know that i understand that fully but your younger middle-aged folks need to understand it too amen and some of you may go before some of us old-timers go think of that one says you won't get cancer what says you won't have a heart attack a young man not very old maybe in his late 20s early 30s told me this morning at church he said i'll find out thursday if i've got cancer you don't ever know don't take life for granted and don't take god for [Applause] granted hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah the bible says that lamech was 77 777 years old but it says and he died the bible said enos was 905 years old and he died i'm just trying to tell you i don't care where you are young or old you're going to die you say i don't want to hear that on sunday night okay you don't have to hear it canaan canaan was 910 years old and the next verse said and he died seth was 912 years old and the next verse said but he died jared was 962 years old but the next person said but he died and methuselah was 969 years old and the next verse says but he died i'm trying to tell somebody that god's wanting to wake us up whether you're young middle-aged or old hallelujah is anybody here anybody here wants god to stir you up i'm going to take that sign off of the door that says please do not disturb i want god to disturb me let me see quickly isaiah said that uh people would mount up with wings as eagles they say it i think that allow me to inject just my personal opinion i think he's talking to young people you'll mount up with wings as eagles and then he said you'll run and not be wary i think that's talking to middle-aged folks he said you'll you'll mount it with wings as eagles that's young but the middle age you're going to run and not be wary and us older folks that said you're going to walk we may not fly but we're going to walk and not paint hey anybody want to keep walking anybody want to keep walking [Applause] somebody shout hallelujah i look around here tonight and i see some older folks that's got some snow on the roof but you still got some fire in the furnace [Applause] i don't care what your station is in life love god be faithful serve the lord maybe you seen it i was thinking i read somewhere about a man pastor and he was 90 years old and he 90. so he he was older than me still hope he was 90 and he decided to take a trip around the world at 90. so he's gonna board the ship take a take a worldwide trip around the world it's gonna take months and his family all gathered out today he was leaving and his children grandchildren great-grandchildren they saw crying had their hands up out tears running down their cheeks and he looked at him and took some about time to board the ship he said what are you all crying about they said well grandpa we may never see you again he said you're right some of you are probably dead when i get back praise god i'm going to tell you what as long as i can i'm going to keep choutin long as i can i'm going to keep on shouting my god my god why don't somebody over 50 lift your hands and praise him hallelujah hallelujah maybe you see that i'm coming to a close but in luke chapter 11 jesus tells about a man that had somebody to come to him at midnight there's a lot you could elaborate on this chapter but i won't take the time to do any of that but at midnight it didn't say just any time this man came at midnight that's kind of spiritually where we are right now this is a dark world when men don't know if they're men or not this is a dark world when women don't know if they're women or not this is a dark world hallelujah with all kind of politicians and sports figures are coming out as they said there are six different types of sexual people and there are some of them claiming to be all six types transsexual bisexual heterosexual you imagine that must be all they think about day and night give me an amen or give me a baptist nod right there [Applause] but he said the friend came at midnight that's where we are and he said friend lend me three loaves i may be off base but allow me the prerogative to be at my age three loaves i i want to use that as repentance water baptism in jesus name and the infilling of the holy ghost speaking with tongues that's the three loaves that people need right now acts 2 38. [Applause] maybe seated here's the sad dilemma the man that they were approaching said i have nothing to sit before them oh can the church ever reach the place where we say i have nothing to sit before them oh god hallelujah i have nothing to set before him and the man said trouble me not that goes along with my text tonight trouble me not the door is shut my children are in bed i read that again i've read it hundreds of times and i thought where was his wife at just a thought he don't say a thing about his wife he said my children are in bed and if all the god children go to bed who's going to help this world [Applause] hallelujah but here you may be saying here's the spirit that jesus commanded he said he's not going to get up and give him anything because he's his friend but because of his importunity because of his persistence because of his continual knocking he's going to get up and give him something then he went ahead and say ask and you shall receive seek and you shall find knock and it shall be open there's three levels of approaching god number one you ask but if you don't get what you want start seeking and if you still don't get what you want start knocking come on i'm telling somebody knocking [Applause] is anybody going to respond [Applause] will you respond the world's waiting for your answer you may be seated for a moment the world's waiting for our answer brother young from malden missouri called me friday night and my wife and i had the privilege to start that church in 1962. we had no soul in town little storefront building i won't go into that but we had the opportunity to start that church and that church now is out on the highway as you go through town beautiful buildings several acres of land in fact they just bought some more acres just bought it you know why they're going to need it it's that small town of 5 000 people i'm going to tell you towns of 5 000 people could have revival [Applause] brother young told me he said you got time let me tell you something i said absolutely tell me he said my son-in-law has got a hold of this home bible business he said he never had taught i believe he said he never taught a bible study but he got a hold of it he said i want to teach a bible study and he said last saturday that was a week ago yesterday in a town of 5 000 young man that's not real proficient teaching bible studies in one day he taught eight bible studies and the next morning a week ago this morning he brought 10 new people to church with him let me ask you what could you do what are you going to do about tomorrow night [Applause] somebody's waiting somebody's waiting maybe you see it you say i can't teach a bible tell you okay when they get the bus it's going back how about running the bus they get the vans going back how about get not just doing it because you want to please the pastor how about running a van filling it up how about knocking doors how about becoming a prayer warrior how about becoming an altar worker how about passing out some church cards and tracks how about becoming let me look in the past of this church for a little bit a few years ago i'm not talking about it every sunday i'm not talking about that i'm talking about on easter sunday on a big day when it was advertised it's easter is anybody gonna match up with frank ferris who brought 400 by himself anybody listening anybody willing to match up with al bird who brought 300 in one day anybody willing to match up with leicester coffee that brought 145 in one day anybody willing to match up with brother earl webb where is he i saw him earlier he brought over a hundred in one day come on folks don't put your do not disturb sign out [Applause] let me see what about what about brother steve woods that one sunday brought about 130 to church he meant i can do it now i can't either now but who's willing to step up and say i'll take their place what about leonard and julia johnson that had to hop around a little bit and brought over 200 to church in one sunday what about daniel woods that brought over a hundred on one sunday what about a stacy that wrote over 150 on one sunday they may not can do it but who's going to step up and say i will do it let's stand to our feet right now [Applause] what about a brother troy weaver that's brought about 150 in one sunday i'm not saying you've got to bring that many to be saved i'm just saying is there anybody willing to step up and try you say i can't bring a hundred how about five how about 10 how about 15 how about one come on how about one somebody pray say praise the lord somebody say praise the lord remain standing i will say this you will never see revival in a comfortable church because he's standing at the door and knocking you may have pulled off your coat but he's going to keep disturbing you he's going to keep knocking you may have pulled your shoes off but he's going to keep bothering you he's going to keep on knocking what about a brother preston chris that's brought 150 or more on one sunday and if i've overlooked some forgive me it's not intentional but i'm telling you in one sunday 1624 on buses alone [Music] [Applause] had run 30 buses had to rent 10 more buses had to rent a school to put them in i'm telling you god wants a church that responds to the knock hallelujah we are we are ambassadors for christ we're representing jesus [Music] hallelujah i said we're here to represent jesus glory to god i feel the holy ghost in this house why don't we just pray for a moment right now [Music] haha come on let's pray all over this house who's going to take your sign off the door that says do not disturb [Music] in our generation we have politics without principle we've got wealth without work we got pleasure without character we've got business without morality we've got science without humanity and we've got worship without sacrifice i was praying brother linda about this god i felt like it was god that impressed me that the church can grow in different ways number one you can get you can get all the arithmetic you want in this the church can grow by addition acts said the lord added to the church the church can even grow by subtraction get a little quiet on me it can grow by subtraction when ananias and sapphira god killed them but in the same chapter the church grew the church can grow by multiplication acts 6 and 7 acts 9 31 it says that they were multiplied the church can even grow by division and i don't like that but don't give up luke 12 jesus said do you think that i've come to bring peace nay no i've come to bring division so god can use every principle of the arithmetic for his church to grow hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah final thing i want to mention let me have your attention keep it close for just another moment or two acts 29 tells about a man by the name of uticus and the bible said he went to church but he fell asleep at church that's a bad thing when you fall asleep at church especially if you fall asleep spiritually i want my feelers out god every time you move old eutychus went up to the third floor the third loft and went sit in the window of all things and would sleep the bible said he was sleeping in the window wrong time wrong place amen and the bible said that while he was sleep he fell fell out to window let me tell you as long as you're sitting in the window there's a little art science to that when you're sitting in the window you can look down in the church service and you turn the other way and look out at the world [Music] if you're sitting in a window you need to get out of the window you can see the church service or you can see the world we don't need the world in the church we need god [Music] i don't know of any principle of righteousness truth and holiness that the church needs to discard or give up on [Music] hallelujah and we don't need to know johnny come lately to come along has never done a thing for god to try to tell us how wrong we've been all these years hallelujah so uticus represents the sleeping church and uh i thought when i looked at his name uticus that's an unusual name i wouldn't name one of my children yugos [Music] and i thought well before i feel too bad about him and maybe before you feel too bad about him if you hadn't listened to a preacher preach several hours to until about midnight and you sitting in a window you might have been like uticus you might have cussed too you took us yeah hallelujah but he fell out and paul went down and picked him up and he was dead and he said in jesus name and life came to him [Music] okay hallelujah hallelujah somebody praise the lord right now [Music] the amazing thing was that guy when they picked him up last ocean he was dead but paul prayed and life came to him and this was at midnight and he couldn't stay awake till midnight and went to sleep but read it in acts 20 after midnight he stayed awake the rest of the night and never quit talking read it it's in the book he couldn't stay awake till midnight at church but after he got after he did get alive and get awake the bible said he kept talking till after daylight [Music] i don't know what he was talking about but he might have been saying don't make the mistake that i made don't sit in that window get around here where the fire is [Music] somebody lift your hands with me and praise him [Music] come on while we're praying if somebody like to repent why don't you step forward somebody's been backslidden you'd like to be renewed why don't you step forward
