thank you for tuning in to home-school homesteaders today's video will be about planting oak trees from seed and what we're gonna do is we're gonna take oak trees the acorns and we're gonna plant them directly into the ground when you look at the woods on my property you see a lot of dead trees and when you remove the dead trees you are left with a clearing and I would rather have the clearing be planted with some oak trees or some other trees look at these photos and you see how dense my woods are in the summer this is all garbage trees invasive species so I would want to remove them and replant them with oak when the month of September hits I pick acorns from different acorn trees right off the branches and it's essential that you do it early September while the acorns are still on the branches because by the end of September maybe like October 1 or the second week of a tober all the acorns are on the ground and if you pick a chords off the ground you got to remove the caps throw them into some water and if they float they will not germinate so you will have to toss them get into your livestock or chicken pigs turkeys but if you pick them off the branches all of them should be good just examine them for any cracks or insects infants station when the month of November hits and the days get cold like so worried nighttime it's may be below freezing this is where you have to plant them into the ground if you do am any sooner they're gonna rot unless it's white oak but the cold ground will provide the stratification that's needed for them to germinate and sprint so this is why I choose the month of November maybe even December as long as there is no snow in the ground and what you do is you walk into the woods you make some holes in the ground with your finger and you plant them about half inch deep and you plant as much as you want so probably collect about a hundred seeds and plant them then we play the waiting game November December January February March April basically winter comes and goes the spring comes and goes and maybe in the month of June you know I went out into the woods and here is what you see the results and obviously throughout the month of July August they're gonna continue growing and a new leaves and when I went back into the woods around September this is what you see so it doesn't take long for them to grow into miniature trees so it does take about a year but I'm guessing at about six seven years I should have a tree about five four five feet tall you you
