Pikes Peak Marathon 2019: Kilian Jornet & Maude Mathys!

job great job great job looking strong looking strong looking strong great Jack Killian ah good morning everybody the Sun is rising in Colorado Springs and yes the Pikes Peak marathon is today the 2019 edition oh boy so I'm a little sore little tired from racing the ascent yesterday but I'm gonna do my best to get up the mountain as not as far as I can probably three or four miles and basically film the leaders with the GoPro all right so I'm gonna I'm gonna try and run it'll run alongside them but here's the deal the marathon goes to the top of the mountain and back down and so it's an out and back so it's it's as a one-man filming crew it's not the easiest race to film but I'll do my best to get as many shots as I can I think I have to skip the starting line and just go straight up the mountain because they're fast and I got to get up the mountain before they before the gun goes off at the starting line so that's the deal thanks for being here thanks for watching where I man it's gonna be competitive okay I'm just gonna say now I predict that Matt Carpenter's record does not fall down I predict it does not fall down I'm sorry there's a reason it has stood for oh my goodness has it been over 20 years I think it's been over 20 years so Matt Carpenter is a stud he ran in the 90s way back when I was a kid and I was watching him run this race so a doll I'll figure out when the course record was and put it on the screen for you right now I predict that it does not fall today that's that's my that's my gut that's what my gut is telling me so alright we're almost to the starting line and a bottom bang about a moment all right here we go it's fun to see all the meth I've a craziness wacker yeah bow thank you sir that's not too shabby not too shabby 212 any last-minute advice man just run down exactly exactly you know go to the pain cave and enjoy it okay you know I'll try to do that yeah and enjoy the the altitude up there is this a good answer Steve and I ran with whacker at CU whackers the real deal Andy wacker he is fast he likes to take it out fast too so watch out he'll be he'll probably be near the front at the beginning I we got to take off Oh what's that okay Steve and I made it to about mile four and I'm gonna stop here and this is where the leapfrogging begins we'll see who's in first oh man this is exciting all right geek out a little bit I've never seen Killian run in person so it's a you know I don't even know how tall he is really I think he's like a little taller than I am I'm just excited to see his stride and we'll see how much I can chilling in the trees in the shade it's hot it's a hot day much warmer than yesterday ok quick update Kilian 209 to the top 200 915 to the top very fast but still 8 minutes off of what Matt Carpenter ran I think back in the 90s eight minutes so but great work Kelly and he's crushed and he looked very smooth when he passed me and then sage can add a six minutes back from Killian and in third place who was in third sorry real quick I'm just looking here I wasn't David Sinclair but David Sinclair is in fourth who I think I raced last year at this speed goat 50k um there it is mark lahnstein is nine minutes off of the lead at the top of the mountain now MA okay here's something exciting real exciting mod Mathis who I believe I don't know where she's from I'm gonna look it up and put it on the screen right now she at Mile 10 she was six minutes ahead of course record pace she looked so strong so smooth when she passed so this is exciting we might be in we might see a record today fall four on the ladies side of the race so I'm just chilling here at where am i I'm about two miles from the bottom and I'm gonna get them coming down the trail when they are just flying by me Killian and sage and everybody else so now we wait now we wait all exciting guides out here [Applause] Kilian awesome awesome awesome work I swear Killian hey John Killian crushing it that's all I got that's all I got man okay whoa I sometimes sometimes I can commit to the down hill old baby he was moving I mean okay no course record today but I'll be curious to see what his descent time is compared to Dakota two years ago or three no no last year uh so he was that's all I got that was fun oh man he was he was focused all right now we got away for second place I believe sage will be up next you got this moving and he was breathing hard that he was moving sage Wow okay now we're gonna wait for mark lahnstein my belief excuse me he's in third who I'm getting tired up here great job he's not born it's not too far great job freshener manic crushing it let loose hey you both look great job great job great job oh my goodness we might have a race for second mark was probably 30 to 40 seconds back from sage is my guess oh man okay I'm not gonna get the finish obviously at least not with this camera so okay I think I'm gonna head down and get the women's finish down closer so that's exciting I wish I sleep enough last night in order to wake up to film the marathon for all of you today and I'm glad I woke up because it was epic and yes we're going with mod mau de I still don't actually know where she's from I haven't looked it up yet but she's that she's the key not only the key with the key name like a 12-minute course record that's amazing I got a I got a research I don't know her story really that is incredible so mau de i came out man you know I could go with Killian sage but like she crushed it she absolutely crushed it so anyway calling it there question of the day I did you race this weekend the Pikes Peak ascent or the marathon how did it go for you tell us your epic stories down below it was really hot today hopefully you survived or have you raced the Pikes Peak ascent or marathon in the past let us know the stories or did you learn about the Pikes Peak ascent slash marathon this weekend because of the vlog and all the coverage I gave for the race anyway I know it's a lot of Pikes Peak discussion lately but it was a fun weekend an epic weekend just so amazing to watch the elites the mid pack the back of the pack and frankly even those that gave it a good shot and again as I said yesterday maybe didn't make it all the way but there's always next year right registration is January 1st so there's always next year one foot in front of the other okay on the right
