Pete Davidson on Living in His Mom’s Basement & The King of Staten Island

you know my guest tonight from Saturday Night Live his stand-up special on Netflix and now he's a bonafide movie star the king of Staten Island directed by Judd Apatow premieres Friday on VOD from his underground home please say hello to Pete Davidson hey Pete how you doing hey man thanks for having me thanks for being here I congratulations on the movie what a beautiful movie this is and it's funny and like you're a real actor I'm like no kidding around thank you are you in Staten Island right now overseeing your Kingdom yeah I'm not in Staten Island in my mom's basement crushing it I know you say that you're you live in your mom's basement you but you live quite literally live in the basement of I assume you own the home together it's a joint effort we got a house together so I bet it's a joint effort indeed down there your family's in the movie your grandfather's is in the movie your real grandpa right yeah we got him in there and he he pretty much came to set every day and then one day Judd was like let's let's put him in as your real grandpa and he he told me he could tell how well I was doing because there were pork chops on set that does seem to be when relatives will visit like a TV show or a movie set the thing that impresses them the most is that there's free food because no one even like at restaurants you don't get free food it's the only workplace where you get that he most certainly appreciated it he was thrilled did he get paid to be in the movie um he did finally get paid to see he doesn't my grandpa doesn't realize that like it takes like three months to get paid doing anything in this business so after after the movie wrapped he called me every week and he was like I know that I'm your grandfather but a job is a job and he he didn't leave me alone until they got paid but he did he got paid your mom has a cameo in the movie - as an extra right she's kind of in the background yeah she's an extra nurse and you could see her in the film because when she comes in she just looks right down the barrel of the camera and that's how you're supposed to do what they say you know and acting's yeah you just stare at the camera you know he's jealous action and you just look to see your see your movie mom is Marisa Tomei which is pretty great especially at being from Staten Island was your mother excited about the fact that Marissa was playing a version of her oh my mom was thrilled she's like I'm hot I'm totally hot she was really thrilled I also think this makes you spider-man's first cousin if you do the movie math now yeah they have to put me in it now because I'm I'm her first cousin now you're really in your mom's basement like is your mom upstairs cooking or what's going on there she's upstairs hanging out do you want to say hi oh yeah I would love to absolutely I actually would love to say hi to work yeah oh great all right here she comes your mother will not be played by Marisa Tomei here this is your real mom hi how are you how you doing how are you good congratulations on your new movie career we heard you did exactly the right thing and looked directly at the camera you must be very proud of Pete in all seriousness I mean it did you see have you seen the movie have you had a chance to see the whole thing I saw the movie when they had a screener in the city for like family and I think I cried most of the time yeah yes are you disappointed that you guys didn't have like a big premiere because of the virus you have red carpet and all of that stuff was that something you were looking forward I mean I was looking forward to it for Pete because it's such a big moment like yes it's a crazy big moment that you want to see it your child's like achieve and yeah but it's fine like I feel like we were lucky to shoot it last summer because it was if it was this summer you know who knows when it would have happened and I feel like we got you that what goes on when Pete that Pete when you have friends come over do they come through the upstairs or is there a separate entrance downstairs I have my own entrance for the cool cats I see cats get the side door Amy do you knock before you come downstairs text yeah texting is nothing well the movie came out really great and I know a lot of the stories based on your true family experiences and it is some story and and really a good movie I hope everybody sees it on on VOD and I understand you guys have chosen the charity for tonight each night we make a donation to a charity and you have chosen answered the call well you guys tell us a little bit about that yeah answer the call my family when my dad passed it helps for firefighters and EMS workers that passed away in the line of duty in it and it helps out their families I will be making a donation to that and if you'd like to join me go to answer the call dot org Pete Davidson his mom his real mom Amy not his movie mom Marissa Tomei Pete would it be out of bounds for you to date Marisa Tomei now that she's played your mother yes absolutely really well thanks guys congratulations the movies called king of Staten Island we'll be right back to honor our healthcare hero of the week [Music] it's colas
