okay [Applause] [Music] [Applause] oh [Music] so welcome back everybody today we are back out here sawing pine logs and uh this log i kind of wanted to film i think it is probably the ugliest one that i've dug out of this uh pile so far uh of course this is a pine log and it looks like this is probably pretty close to the top of the tree it is pretty ugly it's going to be a very naughty very knotty boards i think on this end we've got nearly 16 and on the other end quite a taper going on and we've got 12 and a half or something like that so what we want to get out of it is we want to make one inch boards but we want them five and a half inches wide because the gentleman that i'm sawing on halves for wants these as fencing boards i believe so that's what we're going to do but i'm very curious to see what's in it i think quite a few knots are going to be present in this log and it's a very very ugly log most of these have lost their bark which is really works to my advantage because a lot of dirt was being harbored in that bark and this way a lot of that dirt is um there's still dirt on them but a lot of the dirt that was in the bark that bark is not a factor anymore so that's a really good thing and the lumber that i'm cutting i've found some really really solid lumber in these logs so let's open this one up and see what we can find i'll give y'all a closer look here so i mentioned that we're going to do five and a half inch boards here so what i'm trying to what i'm going to try to do is get two cants out of this log hopefully there won't be too much waste but with that taper you know it's kind of tough to tough to make a square log out of a out of a cone without a whole lot of waste but you can see this is a pretty pretty ugly log let's see what's in it [Music] [Music] hello [Music] good [Applause] so [Music] so so guys we've got our two five and a half inch cants here this one is just a slight slight bit below five and a half but it'll work for what he wants i think but i just kind of curious i wanted to look at the inside of this just to see what we've got let me flip that can over so y'all can see both of them all right let's try that again so here are two cants right here that we got out of that log that is some pretty nice looking stuff down in there you see there's some indicators that has been sitting on the ground for a while which i knew but man for the most part it's beautiful so what i'm going to do now is flip it back on flip it back over 100 190 degrees and i get my one inch boards out of them [Music] [Music] [Music] uh so [Music] [Music] so [Music] all right guys let's see what we've got here of course some of these are just not even worth saving stuff like this there's so much weighing on it that i mean you really can't there's another reason you shouldn't save it but not a lot you can do with that so we're going to get those get rid of that one right off the bat and i'm going to get some comments about not wearing gloves not wearing gloves it's really hard to wear gloves and mill and run the camera so i usually wear gloves when i'm not running the camera but i have to do the camera i just can't use the camera with gloves so that's the reason for that it looks like we've got quite a few here i'm going to keep this one it's not the best but it probably can be used for something so that log gave us eight boards and these boards are 142 almost 142 inches long and they're five and a half inches or so a piece on each stack so yeah really good yield really really good yield from that one log that'll make a lot of a lot of good stuff i think what i'll do here in a minute is look up what how much these would cost if i had to go to home depot right now because i know there's a really bad lumber shortage and the prices are out of control and these are pretty boards too give you a closer look here in just a second so here we are it's hard to believe these came out of that hideous log that we were just dealing with but they sure did so i got on the home depot app here and i found something pretty close these are one inch by six inch by 10 foot premium kiln dried square edge white wood common boards and they are eleven dollars and three cents a piece so we'll just be a little more conservative and we'll just say 10 bucks a piece we've got 18 boards here so you're looking at 180 um yeah that's that beats going and going to home depot and buying these boards by a long shot so right now more than ever this sawmill is paying for itself i am very very thankful that we were able to purchase this machine it has been a godsend without a doubt and these camps that i'm milling for myself out here which you should have seen in the last video those are going to be stored for a while and then cut up for our house remodel so right now more than ever i am so thankful to have this sawmill and to be able to do this out here and it's really enjoyable it's a nice day it's a nice time of the year to do this kind of stuff and as it gets colder around here it's better and better because i enjoy milling in the cold because it's kind of labor intensive sometimes but anyway that's all i got for this video i really appreciate you all watching and i'll see y'all in the next one you
