this is what you call an epoxy disaster everyone wants to play with resin so we cracked this sucker in half and got her flattened and it is looking absolutely incredible honestly it could be the prettiest piece of wood i've ever had the blessing of working with but now that it's open i want to make sure that we're checking the moisture on it so i've got my wagner meter here i got the orion 950 and we're working with a cottonwood slab i'll change a few numbers here and take a reading she feels dry smells dry tastes dry let's see what the meter says but we're reading right around 10 9 9 9 9.8 11. over in this crazy stuff we're at 10 9 11.7 so usually working with a slab i like to be below 12 and this looks pretty darn good thank you wagner oh ryan that thing rolls next thing i want to do before i get started on cleaning this sucker up though is lay out and trace my river because i need to get that over to the glass people so to do that i'm going to temp up the size of the table flip it over and then we'll trace our river on some parchment paper with this blue piece of chalk here just like a river it's blue [Music] my teeth blue i'm just going to go roughly here because we're going to be able to refine the river once we get to a template i want to try to stay consistent and like here i don't want to jog the whole way in because it's going to be become very brittle i think that's got a lot of really really cool movement it's a huge piece it's so much more glass so i've got some parchment paper here and what i'm gonna do is use it to trace the thingamabob that i just drew so now i can see my line because this doesn't have to be perfect this will get refined because this this part here is just for me it has the ability to not have to be this super precise thing now for the tricky part go on that side jordan try your best to be gentle you're the only one here okay you up beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep hey hey mother nature relax it's a little big a little squirrely should be okay all right jigsaw let's get squirrely [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] awesome all right so our template is done this side is up which means we gotta get this thing to the glass shop and then while it's at the glass shop we'll work on the base so the template has made it to the glass shop and they're going to get back to me on whether we're allowed to watch get cut or not which would be awesome so we're going to start working on the slabs themselves and this is the bottom you can see there's a ton of like holes and spots in this the test on the soda blaster went awesome i'm going to clean all these out and then fill these with resin and then some as many of you that commented in the last video about being pumped that this is glass we're still getting a little bit of resin work don't you worry all your resin fans let's pump some soda [Music] [Applause] [Music] good [Music] real quick i want to take a second to thank this week's sponsor betterhelp trust me it makes a huge difference now let's get back to making some magic in the build we're trying something new here i want to get some penetration because i'm concerned about color bleed and with some of these boys we're going to be using black so i'm going to get some of the high performance here and what i'm going to do is thin it out with acetone but the goal is to impregnate the wood that's gonna have the pigmented color on top so that way we won't get any bleed we also won't get any like floating of debris if i miss anything in the cleaning and all that kind of good stuff i guess it's time to shut up and work let's get to it open this first you did a great job [ __ ] it yeah that'll do that's crazy it's like it's so watery but that's good because like the intent of it is to get into the wood if i can get the penetrating epoxy into it then i can come back and sand the top layer off for finishing and then we should get some good penetration in there but these are the spots where i'm you know mostly concerned because we're going to have flaking potentially some issues and i'll say this it's like a it's like a sneak preview of what this thing's gonna look like and shook damn good if i might say so myself look at that color look at that pop [Music] filling stuff on this is dry we're not doing anything with that right now we are going to do is start working on the base so the base is metal and it needs powder coated which means i have to get it to the powder coater i usually bring the table legs in at least 12 inches but this has it gets really thin right here i want i think i'm going to bring them in 20. so the saw sawhorses are around the 20 inch mark and for me it's like there's a lot of flex yeah it is bad because it's glass if i move them out see there's going to be flex here regardless which takes me back to like does this thing need three legs here's my thinking pace here's here's an idea to the metal shop that's 16 gauge ain't gonna do [ __ ] [ __ ] us we need some damn plate steel [Music] [Music] [Applause] sam just got back with some flat bar we've got quarter inch thick by eight foot long flat stock my plan here is to take this one inch flat bar we'll run it down the center like this that way it'll create essentially a backbone on this plate which will hold our whole table because it's only one center point it should be able to expand and contract around that i'm going to drill all the holes for fasteners first that way i can manipulate the plate a little bit easier [Music] we're in the poor room because we're going to do some deep pore resin in all of these voids coming come in here you got to see this i decided that that looks way too cool to just fill it with black resin and not let it look good so we're going to do tyvek tape on the back of this thing and then i'll pour just a clear deep pour and because they're sealed it should work and then they'll sit over the weekend and we can get into the rest of milling these things up so all you need to do now is shut up and work oh damn that's a good-looking shirt check that out new merch baby let's go [Music] let's start out with this guy should we get jordan in here in case spillage i mean it'd be pouring on the floor this one might as well be just a crater that's not a drip is it where are you coming from oh this one runs over to here okay that's not bad [Music] hi this is what you call an epoxy disaster everyone wants to play with resin earn your hair i'd like to go to the barber shop if i can get off the floor um hi hey sam watch your head why do we do this to ourselves knuckle that's what it was so what we've got here is a beautiful surgery if you could tell there's a little tie back a little paper towel in there we've got a nice cross hatching pattern this is what it looks like when uh epoxy starts leaking out of all the holes that are in something and i do recall mentioning that we should probably put this thing in a molt oh that's that's that's old it's old okay some of it i wiped up the new stuff so we can see where it's dripping oh it's definitely my hair [Music] you get an acetone haircut instead of leaving the room i'm just going to sit here with it eventually it will stop right we said that once before i think this one needs to need something i've got two epoxy sticking events on before and you being the saddest i've ever been oh no that is so much money on the floor it's like every drop that bandsaw is probably glued to the floor so it was at that waterfall table that's up top there all of it the whole first pour onto the floor i think where you just poured is just pissing onto the floor is that fresh that whole straight down no from tyler is that what this nope left yeah oh that's nice yeah because i'm watching a puddle over here yeah we don't let it go because we can always add more something will seal eventually coagulate damn it john takes three days okay well i'm sleeping in here this weekend i love you sarah and annie sorry i won't see you for a week i mean you have just enough room for a cot like right i'm sleeping on the epoxy i want to make sure i'm stuck to this floor forever good thing we put that 20-minute alarm on jordan texas like i mean doord it for 10 minutes so jordan got all of the metal prepped for the base as you can see here we're going to go with a little bit of a trapezoidal shape i'm going to tig weld these suckers together and then hopefully get this sucker off the powder coat as soon as possible so we can keep moving forward so let's get welded [Music] okay walking into this one blind john and sam i don't know what happened the floors yeah hi anyway i'm just going to pour more epoxy uh we're going to do a little spot here and just top these off i think that's what they were trying to do but it's a mess so let's um yeah [Music] all right with that last weld that's gonna be a wrap on this video we got glass getting cut we got to get these things to powder coat then i can finally wrap this damn project up make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss anything else see ya
