[Music] it's ten o'clock I'm just heading towards Fairbanks Derwin the reservoir is to my right there game on so look at I mean look at this like mine listen to the choir believe me the place to be of all the car but I'm so excited to explore a new part today so head it up onto the moors oh just like can you do I have no words I'm not really working up yet I never a rough night but I'm feeling energized today I'm so excited that's it that's all I have to say let's go hey I didn't even see that but as you can hear that like chirping that's a nuthatch and there's loads of them they're just they're literally all matte tree oh my goodness alright so I'm heading to do it damn Oh which is actually right there the big ominous looking wall in front of me and then we'll head on to the walk home getting at at the moment Wow it's a pretty impressive looking down check it out Villa Derwent dam was built in the early 1900s and can support a total of nine point six four million cubic meters of water the howden doand and lady bower reservoirs together practically supply all of dervishes water as well as a large part of South Yorkshire this landscape I'm in right now I know it's very controlled and managed especially since that's a reservoir not a natural lake for this right here this is what I live for the pine forest and the smell of the pine and you got the silver birch in all of the ancient woodland and the water and the moss it's just mine break I know some people like to see some people like cities this for me this is hot enough I just need a little log cabin somewhere tucked away on a lake Oh heaven the roots along the reservoir edge was clear and made for easy walking it was the perfect place to breathe smile and remember the value of the simple things in life first climb of the day boy am I tired yeah but it's all good the initial climb was short and sharp but the higher I climbed the more the landscape opened out around me so you can see where I'm going up pretty impressive view they I've rounded the corner just gone past Gary's Combe I didn't see Jerry they actually has a point I don't know a Gary if you're cool Gary comment on this video anyway so I've rounded the corner and there's this big outcrop of rock they're vicious bashed as tall so I'm just gonna carry on along this cube will this Gorge now for a little bit longer and then we turn up towards the ridge that I'm gonna be walking on but it I haven't seen another Walker it's so tranquil loving it so I'm at this path junction you can see there's one path going off that way and another one heading off in that direction and there's this little Brook good sheepfold Clow I've just had a look at my map and basically I'm here so I could go that way but I'm not going to so instead I'm gonna carry on so I'm gonna keep right along along this little path heading directly upward so we've got quite a bit of a scent now 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 a good hundred 150 meters maybe and then we're going to branch off to the left along the ridge so we're gonna look at lost lad tour back tour all the way along there and then basically up and circle back round to fair homes in the car so that's the plan let's see how it goes I just want to give you the opportunity to listen and hear what I'm hearing nothing genuine me when it's such a still calm day like this the very mild breeze it just does something in here okay wet ground to start to contend with fun times a pic view behind we're trying to study myself when I come over this rich oh my goodness Wow look at this view 30 60 F fitness and I'm not even on the highest plane oh my goodness wow this camera does not do this justice hey guess what I found a paved path I'm always like messing around in the mud and there's always an alternative route figure this gorgeous I'm not trying to be vain here I just want to show you the view behind as they climb look yeah it's stopping my progress of avoids yeah nearly found lost lads hey yeah sitting at 516 metres above sea level the summit is marked by a can and Thapa scope and its name is actually derived from a local legend about a shepherd boy who got lost in a blizzard and died on ways to back to the highest point for today and it's still paved happy days it's got a lot of energy you guys bigger every stuff I take down they're backed or looked quite insignificant up here it looks quite monumental forget it huh very domineering in the landscape just in case you weren't aware these paved paths here they are obviously fantastic for walking on for the main goal by the National Park Authority who puts them in place it's your rent erosion and you can see all around me if the last couple of days has just been Pete and bog no Jay is no fun to walk in and be is actually very very fragile like environment and landscape that is very easy to erode away very easy to destroy and if it's destroyed it takes a very long time to regenerate a rejuvenate and grow back up to in it's excessive levels and that's basically the point of these paths so it takes a lot of time and effort and labor to put these in place but obviously it's worth it in protecting this fragile ecosystem that is a national park for that reason having said that they don't last forever how did that stone go there not sure long going where's the top there's the top backed or sits as the highest point on Durant edge a millstone grit escarpment above the upper dough and valley that provides seriously mind-blowing views in every direction just leave impact or now 538 meters above sea level and basically I just follow this rich the next three kilometers so that's where we come from that's backed off and that's where we go in into the back and Beyond and apparently it's one o'clock the route along the escarpment was paved and a real delight to travel along with tours of every shape and size dotting the landscape each having been eroded by the wind rain and frost over many centuries well it's all starting to know right just approaching the saltcellar Boulder which is this one here say making quite good progress along don't sad she's a ridge now some confusing names isn't it just come around the corner to see the bridge though to the a five seven goes over so we drove over that this morning separates the two reservoir so it's the lady Bower FP lady Bower and then you go up to the dough and she's pretty cool I like standing here because you can see all of the paths as well as that where they join and I've looked at my map and it's really great because you can see the lay of the land and it's just a nice visual it's very appealing to the eyes and actually I was thinking today how much I've loved the journey coming across the Moors working our way up every part of it this is a very harsh landscape but today it's been very Placid for me and I'm very grateful for that I've enjoyed it I've not been buffeted by too much wind and the weather's been just right nice and clear and it's just so nice to look at obviously it's not got vibrant heavy this time it yeah it's a little bit late in the season but it's still a stunning landscape but you've got to treat it with respect because this is a harsh landscape and I've just spotted actually over there you might not be able to see it there's a column of smoke getting buffeted around basically that's a controlled fire keeps whaling so it's burning back the Heather as a conservation techniques to promote new growth and keep the landscape functioning efficiently but it does have to be managed very cautiously just because peat is already very I'm a born all around here is Pete and you wouldn't really want that to go wrong Castro Castro Castro Wow these are the wheel stones look very wheely no father's just like random bits balanced on top green Olli I'm just working my way now as well towards the path where she's gonna take me back down filmed on my mobile I managed to get a shot of a nearby red grouse the birds were everywhere and I enjoyed spying them camouflaged against the foliage the descent back down the valley was reasonably gentle and on good paths it would have been a great mountain biking trail loving this walk down it's really very pretty I'm just about to join the mean bride away it goes along the rows of one and then we'll head up to the aqueduct and then from there we'll pretty much at Fairbanks and then we're done it's a good day to have a good day completely forgot that this was on route so I'm standing looking at the lost village of Derwent that was flooded when this reservoir was built and I think 1947 ish and there's this billboard here this shows just how vibrant the place was in 1912 1990 44 or so it must have been flooded before that so it was taken down but this is the picture I find very eerie they're just looking at the church fire under water is that not insane on the final stretch down now to Fairbanks they're mean damn don't wait damn it's just in front of me so I'm just about to hit the junction where I turned off to head up past the dam and along the reservoir this morning so just kind of final reflections for the day my gosh what a day I've loved it really loved it I mean this morning I spent in very lethargic and I think I can put that down to just too many like night's lack of sleep but I stopped her a little bit kind of got somewhere sensible in my mind and in how I was feeling it's pick myself up and carried on and I said I'm not gonna stop til I get to backtalk and of course as I rounded the corner coming up on the moors there my mind was blown I mean the views were incredible and I've just been so fortunate with the weather today so I would really really recommend the route so 11 mass today feeling pretty good it's very turned off this morning many hours ago is the best way to end the day [Music]
