PAX Unplugged Vlog & Recap | 2021

[Music] hello everyone and welcome back to foster the meeple a channel all about board games and more gaming things and packs unplugged i didn't know where you were going i knew you didn't but is that the one from your costume oh that's the one that got you yeah today's video is a very special video it is our vlog of our trip to philadelphia and pax unplugged so we're not going to say too much right now we're just going to let the vlog happen and at the end because we didn't get to do a lot of recapping actually at the con because everything was very crazy at the end of this video jeff and i will go into yeah yeah exactly enjoy the vlog and we will be back when you're ready for us done good morning jeffrey [Music] this isn't even morning this is pre-morning what time is it this is like it's 3 a.m nova scotia time i'm wide awake jamie's wired ready to go i've already had some breakfast it's 2 a.m um we're on our way to the airport it's 3am okay i'm we're on our way to the airport going to pax unplugged but first uh this is gonna be the first time that we travel during covet times so we are going i guess a little bit earlier than we usually would for um i think by the time we get there yeah yeah maybe a little bit earlier i don't remember what traveling was like before this but um yeah we are going to the airport to then go to another airport to sit for six hours we're gonna sit for six hours then we're gonna go to another airport and then we're gonna go and be in philadelphia wait after that airport we will be in philadelphia and that's my update for now is pretty good so far so good we'll keep you posted and i'm probably going to sleep on the plane wide awake okay bye [Music] hola we are at the airport it has been i don't even know how long it's been since we got here but customs took forever customers to take a long time we have already played two games registered and that's pretty clever yeah i played one game solo because this guy's tired who won the one that's oh i don't know i won the solo game yeah i'm so tired i slept for maybe two hours last night and then i didn't sleep on the flight jamie conked out i've been awake i've been awake for basically two days straight and it's hitting me you'll sleep on this one it's just another quick flight hour and a half i'm gonna try depending on the wind and you know what on our last flight it took a little bit longer because of the wind and the pilot even said it it's like well it's going to be whatever whatever because we're head in the headwind and i said to jeff i told you so yeah jamie was so excited that he said that it's not very exciting yeah sorry i have like zero pep yeah no cyril pepin there's really nothing to share no check in again soon [Music] are you feeling confident damn it [Music] [Applause] we just arrived in philadelphia here's jeffrey not tired at all we had a very long day we can literally see the convention center from i almost said from our house from our hotel room i can see russia from my house all i want to say is i've gotten two hours of sleep in the last like 30 seconds listen i took gravel i was great on the plane boom gone yeah i didn't sleep then i was up and we were at the airport up up up and then we got another plane boom gone and now i'm up again what jamie what who won the game to play today oh you know winning's not what matters it's all about having fun anyways we're gonna go to target week is starting off then we're to go to have dinner with jazz from the lobby of hobbies and his wife and his daughter delilah and lyla lyla i always screw that up yeah dahlia no delilah lila just think of the song yeah that's our update for now it's not not been very exciting thus far but it's only been at airports yeah that's all we got so we'll see you later all right everyone we've just had a delicious meal why i wanted to show everyone there you go and so now we're walking with the lobby of hobby family let's go get some to go get some and know i just cracked my cookie in bits [Music] good morning it's day two in philadelphia woken up by a fire alarm we got woken up by a fire alarm was like bright granted it was yeah and it was like nine o'clock our time so it wasn't so bad but that's not the way that you necessarily want to wake up anywho we're currently watching angry birds because we're adults and we are about to get picked up by michelle from second star to the left and we're going to spend the day with michelle and billy i want to tackle you onto the bedroom please don't and we are going to go target apparently we went to a target yesterday it was the most disappointed i think i don't know maybe but it was most disappointed i've ever been it was literally it was the worst target ever and then we went out to dinner with jazz and the family and slept yes delilah and lila jazz lyla and lyla amazing humans yes that's so much fun yes yeah now we're gonna go play games all day with michelle and billy any food and eat food we're getting pork rolls and shake shack possibly and new york pizza from new jersey maybe bring the rollaids oh yeah i packed everything i got gaviscon i got rollates i got pepto we're all set okay bye [Music] [Music] [Music] we just got back from billy and michelle's we had a second start to the left haven't checked the moca check them out they're amazing we start off the day i honestly don't remember if we've already updated or not but we went to new jersey to visit billy and michelle yeah we had pork rolls which are new jersey staple and jeff's new favorite food so good they're not my favorite food but they're really good stuff was like 10 out of 10 for me yeah they were good we had new york style pizza from new jersey we played res arcana excluding expansions doesn't matter i won we played michelle and i played botnick we we played land versus c as a four-player game jeff and i versus billy and michelle and they won uh and then we played honey buzz which is my new favorite game doesn't matter who won it's all about having fun so we played those games we had a great day it was literally the best i wish that they lived closer to us so we could have more days with them because they're amazing humans yeah this week is just making me like sad well don't get sad until we leave because we're gonna have to go home and all these people are so far away yeah that's true but it's been great today was a fantastic day michelle took us a target yeah i'm not a city target i went to a city target there was nothing there it was awful then we went to suburbia suburbia target it was way bigger oh i need to i'm still struggling jeff's still struggling that's our update um we might be doing some touristy things for we didn't really film a lot at billy my shelves i took a little bit of b-roll we're busy playing games we're busy you know chatting doing stuff so try to take some b-roll if we do anything like touristy here which we might try and do a little bit tomorrow it's been a good day very very good day jeff's already going to sleep so we will catch up with you later goodbye we just got out of our hotel and now we are going for a little walk to go to either the reading or reading terminal market get some food go shopping et cetera and uh yeah we'll take some video and show you anything exciting that happens but we can cross it that's where we are we're crossing the street there's a convention center now we're going into the lincoln tunnel i don't know i don't know anything about where we are but except for the fact that it's philadelphia okay but did it yeah i was like i was gonna go party people tag team music we're like a tag team you and i it's weird we haven't updated since uh this morning i guess since we were walking around but we went to the terminal market which we took some footage of i don't want to say reading or reading it's either reading or reading i think it's writing as we did that then we went to uniqlo i wanted to see what disney clothes they had but they didn't have much it was just a little one so that was jamie had major uniqlo disappointment i had gloves in my hand i should have bought them but i didn't anyways and then i told her to buy them jeff did it's freaking cool guess who regretted not buying them this one then we went to barnes and noble to look at their board games and they had um actually a pretty decent selection it was actually pretty impressive we ended up buying land versus c which i would show you but it's already living in the suitcase yeah we're trying i'm trying to like keep everything packed we're trying to prepare it's also one of those things like i want to play it but i also don't take it out of shrink for the inevitable travel yeah because like a little added i don't want them by them i mean the airport people to like rip through it yeah like open it and if it's like sealed shut hopefully they won't i mean who knows what they'll do but anyways we did that then we went through love park uh and they have a christmas village we got some hot apple cider mine had an extreme amount of whipped cream on it she ordered it that way i did i did not ask for extreme whipped cream again regretted it it was too much sugar but it was good and then we just came back to the hotel and now we're chilling i had to do some work today and now we're going to play dnd tonight yeah very low key day today probably another low key day tomorrow we're pretty low-key peeps you know we like to go tomorrow we might play some game yeah i might play some games maybe some of the games we played i mean brought so sit well i was also thinking we could have gone could go to the board room yeah tomorrow we should do that yeah good call anyways uh that's where it starts that's it for now this is cheese steaks and apparently these are the best cheese steaks philly cheesesteaks that you can get yeah according to jazz and they're actually on the jersey side in camden which is kind of like a rough neighborhood but anthony bourdain confirmed that these are the best cheesesteaks you can get who's that he's like a big foodie guy oh food shoe guy anyway so we have two one for tv you gotta eat here guy no oh me and you and then there's one for ilya and tyler okay for when they get here okay so we'll have to put theirs in the fridge okay and then this is pepper relish ew which he said is spicy so not for me um try it out separately so these just say what's what's in them all right let's crack them open okay here's mine smells good this is huge enormous so mine has onions and ketchup and jeff's heads no onions and mayo no ketchup no ketchup there's no way i eat all of this this is insane it's gonna have to go into fridge we could have split one easily wow you like it it's exactly what i thought it would taste like cheese steak okay feeling confident no anything here i can take no cabbage [Music] right badge oh it's it's just a normy badge not like mine the media badge i wasn't allowed to be cool apparently jimmy wanted all the hot though all the glory to me [Music] do do [Music] of the united states [Music] john adams and john hancock were coming together they were concerned that prior to their arrival that bullets were fired on a battlefield in massachusetts following those shots that were exchanged at lexington and concord the famous shot around the world [Music] no impressively good at knitting which would you rather be yeah so this is all it says that's awesome you interpret that one or the other surprisingly good at origami or pressingly good at knitting the fruity binky thing really tough i think there's nothing that's super long i thought oh i was like easy fruity we gotta do is [Laughter] the four familiars who served as servants pupils and in many ways adopted children flicker will you get us some light blaze and grab it be on guard for trouble the old man looked at the stone golem which stared [Music] train thirteen two trains what's up jeffrey what a lot of people jamie we're good okay max why is max the only one trying this that's very good ice cream but is it the best ice cream it's the best mango ice cream i've ever had it tastes very real in my opinion it's the best ice cream it tastes very real [Music] stealing all of them get your gatorade [Music] this is hard this is going to be a hard one to guest pizza [Music] you gotta like you're doing great yeah like no it's like static yeah and then flip oh gosh oh gosh it sticks i can't do it i'm definitely going to beat you at this game i did the first one though it sticks try it i already did i did it immediately i'm going outside i'm a master [Music] um [Music] would you miss us [Music] and we're back i hope that you guys enjoyed the vlog or what little we did get to vlog it was mainly just kind of all of the extra activities and then daily recaps of how tired we were we realized that we're not the best at vlogging we gotta get better at it but hey you gotta start somewhere i might sneeze ugh jeff is uh sick from pax it's not covid we've tested ourselves every day since the saturday it's the worst cold i've ever had ever being a real baby about it how sick have i been i don't know i went to bed at 7 30 last night just our entire experience in general we had a great time in philadelphia yes i have come to realize that i actually like love philadelphia i had an incredible experience i don't know if it's a product of like we just haven't traveled um it was two years and it was a beautiful city so we went a little bit early which means as you guys would have seen in the vlog we got to spend some time with jazz and his family from the lobby hobbies and billy and michelle from second star to the left so that's like how we kicked off our week which which was just like the best yes thank you to both of them for introducing us to their family jim uh delilah lila yeah two different families there but um pleasure to meet all of you we had a blessing it was probably like some of my favorite times our family grew yes yes then we got to meet tyler and elia from cabrera also go and check them out but they came a day early as well and so we got to play goodness thank goodness we got to play some games with them in the hotel in their room before we went to this crazy event and before that we got to or after that now i can't remember but we got to explore a little bit of philadelphia with them and jazz and isaac boarding with sidekicks boarding with sidekicks i think apologies isaac if i got that wrong we went to the liberty bell and independence hall and we learned all about the scene and the set of national treasure everywhere that we were is where nicholas cage was too we saw all the things from the movie it was amazing it was the most realistic movie set i've ever seen yep we're canadian we don't know anything about american history so that's not true it's not true but we were when we were in independence hall just like those are the spectacles from the movie national treasure you have a hair on your face so we got to do that and that was a lot of fun we had some amazing food the food the food in philly in philadelphia is amazing was amazing it's probably some of the best food i've ever had like by far before we left jamie was like oh we have to leave and there's none of this good food around us and now we're going to go with toasty toast and craft dinner bummer i do want to say a very special thank you to ilya and tyler yeah we love them love you both so much they made our convention experience that much better we spent a ton of time together we were in familiar territory with him you know for canadians convention canadians in the big world and i just truly truly appreciate both of them for everything being them yeah just for being them we've said it i think already but if you haven't checked out calvary please do they're amazing yeah pretty much everyone that we mentioned you should go check out the night before the con we went to an event it was kind of like a content creator publisher type of meetup that was hosted by steve bonacor stephen bonacore there was a ton of people there it was uh overwhelming loud scary we come from a province where everybody's just kind of kept to themselves during coven we haven't really been out in a big crowd like that so it's a little bit overwhelming i was concerned that when we went to that event we would do the typical jeff and jamie thing i found a great spot on which is to find a corner and talk to ourselves and hide and that's what we did because we get anxious and nervous and those are situations we're not oh going in that regard we don't go up to people really that is not the way that to say hi to people and it was an interesting social experiment for us and it did not intimidating yeah we were overwhelmed i think we did get to meet people so that was the night that we got to meet paula and matthew so paula deming matthew jude monique and naveen from before you play we got to meet them there we got to meet professor meg there for the first time tyler i won't tell the isaac childress story we'll keep that in between yeah the four of us but we met we met isaac childress we didn't know we did what we did so i mean it was overwhelming but it was and it wasn't it was good to go i just want to mention too anyone that might have been there that saw us and we didn't say hi to and they were maybe like why aren't they saying hi like that's why yeah we were scared we were terrified it was just very and it wouldn't change if we went again tomorrow it would be the exact same yeah that's just that's not the type of situation or setting that i we're not social creatures no like the my best case scenario is kind of like what we did with tyler and ilya and jazz and then when we were walking around the city exploring together in a smaller more intimate setting i guess so that was that night then after that event jeff and i went to go get burgers uh which was also a crazy experience we're not gonna bore you with but then we went back to the hotel to play some games we played super mega lucky box and fuji flash fujiflush is a like an amazing if you regularly are able to play games at like a five plus player count yeah you need to get fujiflush it's o to print but yeah i think it's still accessible good luck but anyway then we played green team always wins green team wins which is a new game we just had a prototype copy and that was a super fun party game so i don't know i don't think we played anything else jeff and i were wiped like we were done so we went to bed and then the next day was the first day of the con which was exciting yeah we ran into overwhelming max and max always amazing to run into them again so we spent most of the time with them once once they arrived yep all three days of the con just kind of like bubble together we got to meet some publishers we got to go to a couple of events charity board gamer had a content creator meetup there was a habit event that we went to there was just a lot of free play yep we visited the library yep we got to play six nympt with monique and naveen yeah and luna from aspiegamergirl and jazz jazz and tyler and elian and we got to meet mick and starla we got to meet megan starla from our family plays games mick made fun of the hat which was great yep always good such an honor to meet them got to play games with the gentleman of board game barrage we did which was so thank you so so much particularly to nelon who i was interacting with non-stop during the con trying to meet up with and they're super busy obviously and eventually we were able to connect we sat down with neil in kellen and mark and played trendy so we chatted with them for half an hour they're super nice guys yeah and i can't wait till we're all in the same room we can do that again but thank you again to the four game barrage christina unfortunately was still asleep living the dream yeah that was super awesome we also had a little discord meetup with a bunch of people from the discord we got to play just one with them and we met some really awesome people i didn't get to play just one no jeff went on a coffee ride i was shipped off to get dunkin donuts for everyone which was on the other end of the convention hall it was a 40 minute round trip for me to go still complaining about this so yeah you guys got to play just we had to play but you literally said no i'll sit out at the very beginning i got to meet bryce and sarah and kevin and kevin's partner i'm sorry kevin's partner i forget what's your name alf in the discord but his antonio i think is your name jenna was there obviously max emily danielle were there and billy and michelle and jack we got to meet candace candice she wasn't there for the discord couple notable modes notable moments from that we got to have lunch with bryce and professor meg yep which was awesome we had lunch with them and we get to have a bit of a one-on-one moment with candace at the end of the con yes and and chatted with her for a bit so thank you candace for you know opening yourself up a bit too you met steven briefly stephen walked by remember remember stephen he was like hey you're faster than me both this is great do you remember that we were sitting we were like waiting for our cge meeting and i was eating my little pancake oh yes steven yes duh yeah everything is like a blur a whirlwind experience yeah that was awesome we ended off our trip with playing more games with tyler and elia we got to play some savannah park which is super fun we played this crazy pancake game flapjack flip off or something it was amazing and the key we played a ton of games we will mention all of them in our wrap-up video because mainly right now i can't remember what we did the shining moment of the convention though if we're not including you know the amazing people we've met if we're going to say a channel specific thing that meant a lot to us familiar tales ah i think it's worth mentioning that again it was our very last day we left early we had left we had already left the con we were not we were not going back we were tired we were laying in bed and i get an email from nikki at plaid hat games i guess we got an email yeah and it basically just said hey do you want our coffee copy of familiar tales of familiar tales and we were like yeah yes familiar tales is a game that i demoed on the first day and it was immediately as soon as i saw it i was like this is my new favorite game and i can't even tell you how excited i was when we got that email and then we went at the end and jerry who is the designer of the game packed it all up for us and then handed it to us and said some really kind words and it was just like this magical moment that i literally was like holding the game and i'm like hold yourself together man because like i was just overwhelmed i was so excited and while we were waiting we got to quickly play ash's reborn which was really great we met and jonathan we got to say goodbye to jonathan from dice throne and he was amazing and we just met so many cool and tom from cosmos tom from cosmos and nathan from cge and it was nice to met so many amazing people it was nice to be able to talk to some people about what we're doing and then to have them come back to us and say we love what you're doing right that just meant a lot i think we spent way too much money we had way too much fun and then we had to come home which was sucky and now jeff is sick and i don't know if i ever not to go back to pax i know it was it was a great experience i think pax now becomes a yearly thing for us i agree i don't know if we'll do it the same way i don't know if we'll do the full week but definitely going a day at least a day or two early i think it's totally because we have the ability to work from there as well so we could go a couple days early just work and go to the con on the weekend so sure so that in a nutshell was our pax unplugged in philadelphia experience we hope that you enjoyed the vlog hopefully we will get better at
