hi what do we got robbie the robot from the movie forbidden planet 1956. it's no r2d2 man i came to the pawn shop today to sell my robbery the robot i like to sell the robot today because i have doubles of robbie the robot i'm looking to get about two thousand dollars for the toy in the box but i go as low as 11 1200. so where'd you get this thing and an estate sale a few years ago man i've never seen one of these before what do you know about it well it's 55 years old it's considered an icon in toy robots i know it was in almost every mgm sci-fi movie they used the same robot just about yeah some prop designer made robbie the robot and i believe mgm used and used and used it but he wasn't robbie the robot in all the movies no but he was robbie the robot in forbidden planet robbie the robot's kind of a hollywood legend his first appearance was on a 1956 movie called forbidden planet and he's appeared in tons of different movies and tv shows over the years he even had a cameo in the classic gremlins from the 80s does it still work oh yes it's just beautiful toy back in the 50s and 60s toys were made by hand in japan made with tin they didn't have computer chips okay does it say robbie the robot anywhere on the box no because copyright laws they wouldn't use robbery the robot they called it mechanized robot was there actually an american model named robbie the robot this was the actual robbery the robot toy made in japan for the american market no this is the mechanized robot that was copied off robbie the robot from the movies yes so what i would like to know is if there was any american toy maker out there that actually made something called robbie the robot instead of mechanized robot no and i should trust you because the same way i'm trusting you you can never be too careful in the pond business if i took everyone at their word i'd have a storeroom full of magic beans and deeds to the brooklyn bridge any idea of what you're looking to get out of it around two grand let me call a buddy of mine down and have them come check this out because it's something i'd really have to know before i can give you an idea of what it's worth sure i'm hoping the expert will say that it's in great condition and it's original and realized that the box makes the toy worth more johnny what's going on everybody what's up guys check this out wow that's robbie the robot man the guys usually calm me down if they have a question about a piece they want to know a little bit more about it you mind if i take a closer look at it please be my guest a lot of times people left them with the batteries in there a lot of times they get corroded everything looks really nice the dome's really clear has a nice patina to it what makes this thing really collectible is it's made in japan 99 of these were exported to the united states so a lot of the japanese are trying to buy back those made in japan toys also movie buffs they go after this toy as well so i mean you got a cross-collectible and it's high in demand so what are your concerns about the peace corps um well first of all why wouldn't they have branded it robbie the robot why mechanized robot mgm did not license this toy the company that made this newmura probably at the time just issued this toy mechanized robot with the exact likeness of robbie the robot all right million dollar question what are they selling for as far as value-wise we're looking for condition um no corrosion everything to me looks original and on top of that we have a really good box so what's it worth i would put a price on this piece at about 2 200. [Music] all right man i could probably work with that number appreciate it cool man you really couldn't have getting better as far as the toy itself as far as working condition the box was in really good shape and just well taken care of so it's worth a couple bucks yes a couple bucks how much you want for it well considering your 20 25 30 markup give me 1 600. i'm more around the 800 range 800 you got nothing like this and i'll go home tonight and i'll sleep just fine not having it this isn't it's not something that i need though this is not a fast selling this is not a fast sell this is the robot for people to own i'll go a thousand 15. i won't do it i won't do it for 1500 bucks there's not enough money for me to make there it'll sell for over two grand this is the battery go 1100 bucks 12 and we got a deal 1100 i'll walk away over 100 bucks all right i'll take it all right dude chummy you want to write them up when he offered me 800 he was lowballing me to make as much money you know buy low sell high 1100 is pretty good but i wish i had more you
